NMPRO #4 – Nathan Ricks Interview 1 of 5

March 15th, 2009 Email This

Nathan Ricks has earned over $40 million dollars as a Network Marketing Professional in the past 20 years. Recently I traveled to his home in St. George, Utah for an exclusive interview. In this five part series, you will find many interesting concepts. Today, he starts by answering my question “What makes YOU so special? Why have you earned so much money while others haven’t?” I hope you enjoy this and the other four installments. (oh, and by the way, if I was on network television I would do some fancy wrap up between all the segments. Since I’m not, you’ll just have to pick it up as it goes). :) ENJOY!

Skipping to the complete interview, but Heather was here! :)
  • Just listening to the early ones...
Focus and commitment... doesn't sound difficult....

  • I never thought about it that way Nathan is right so many are not focused at all. In fact I am sure I too have lost my focus and probably will again. Being consistent now that is definitely something to work on. lol

  • Most people in my opinion can't focus is because they are not the right kind of person for the company they are in. There is a certain business for everybody and if they can find what they truly enjoy they have more of a chance to succeed. That's why it's important to find out if they can do a business in the first place so you can focus on the people that can. To focus on building your business you need to forget about any and all failures because they are something learned and concentrate on the accomplishments no matter how small. A lot of small accomplishments will keep you on the path to building a business. With the right training anybody can build a business the way they want. There's a product for everybody and the price of a product doesn't matter if they see it as a real value to them. People need to come to you ready to buy and that's done by finding the right people and getting them to find you. There are tons of people coming to network marketing and people need to be trained on how to generate prospects to them.
  • "Obstacles are the things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal".

Focus is an essential element to ensure that you reach your destination. The big challenge is to have a large enough dream so that your focus does not diminish when it begins to get tough.

Thanks Eric for the Informative interview with leader Nathan Ricks!

Hi Eric, Happy St. Patrick's Day ;-)
From this video I understood, that if you want to be succesfull in MLM, you have to be committed and focused.
    Waiting for part 2
    Thank you.
  • Peter van Andel
    Hi Eric,

Again a great video and some good perspectives of Nathan. Especially about the commitment and the comparisation to marriages.

Loving your site and looking forward to the next segment!
  • hi, eric!
I liked that 1st part of the interview. It puts a spotlight on one of the most crucial essentials of success: focusing!
If You 're not able to concentrate Your mental power on one thing the effect of it will be zero!
Or as Charles Haanel has written:
"The power of attention can be more readily understood by comparing it with a magnifying glass in which the rays of sunlight are focused; they possess no particular strength as long as the glass is moved about and the rays directed from one place to another; but let the glass be held perfectly still and let the rays be focused on one spot for any length of time, the effect will become immediately apparent."
    Enough said!
    Best wishes, Freddie
  • @Stas Prokofiev
    Hey Stas,
From what I've seen, people get taught how to become successful but most of them don't apply the steps EXACTLY like they were told to do, or they gonna follow the steps but they don't believe in what they're doing. Mostly though I see that the one who fail are the one who didn't follow exactly the steps and the funny thing is that the one who have no experience at all in NM can do it better at following the steps since they have no other ideas so they decide to just do what it's explained instead of reinventing the wheel.
And sure when someone is truly committed he should be supported by his sponsor but it also happen that the support given isn't the best or the sponsor isn't as committed as the new guy, then it's up to him to go out and get the support he needs (upline, events...)
    All the best.
  • That was insightful! thanks!
I've to agree with the focus thing, I was reading 'Beach Money' today, I did the exercise he suggest (the 3 things you want to do in the next 3 months, then the 3 actions to do that and then let go) and as I wrote it down I thought that even though I know I really want those things, I wasn't 100% always focused on them, even though it's on my dream wall and game plan, ... People have already a hard time to focus on the present, here and now, we are always thinking, then it's obvious most of us can't focus, it requires a real effort and motivation to stay focus. And then being consistent, well obviously there's a lack of that in the world, just see how many people start at the gym in january and what's left a month or 2 later lol.
    Thanks for sharing!
  • Once again, great content Eric. This website is an awesome tool and is very helpful to me, someone who is new to the industry of network marketing. I believe in my heart that network marketing is one of the most amazing business platforms on the planet right now, and that it can truly change the way we interact with each other.

Bringing people together from within the ranks of the industry is very helpful to me in my education on this industry. I am here for the long haul, and need as much of this valuable information as I can get.

Let me know if you ever want to do an interview with a newbie, who is very excited about joining the industry! peace

    Good Video,
Great to see successfull people in the industry,
Just want to ask why do you not get taught step by step how to become successfull in this business?
I mean surely if somebody was truely comitted they deserve a chance at being mentored? And then pass their knowledge on to others.

    Does anybody agree with me?

    Kind Regards
  • Sam Henke

  • What a key element that was discussed. With so much going on in our lives and individuals having multiple projects to work on, focus is a deciding factor. Thank you for sheeding light on this for me and others. These 5 minute segments a day are just fabulous.

WOW!!! It felt like he was actually talking to me. I can see that with focus, failure wouldn't be a distraction as I would be to busy working on the next opportunity. Thanks for the input. It will definitely generate a lot of output for me and my organization.

  • Graham Downing

  • Osnat Bresler
Brilliant insights and analysis! Helped me realize how few people can really focus and commit consistently through the bumps in the road, as I have experienced with my own team members who dropped out. Looking forward to additional enlightening insights....
  • Hey Eric,

I got an awful lot from just this first segment with Nathan. The most insightful yet simple thing that he said from my perspective was, that success comes when "we focus on meeting the objectives of the compensation plan"

This is not only important from the point of view us as individuals in the industry, but it also means that we have a responsibility to our team members to ensure that they know where they need to be and the action steps that they need to take in order to meet those objectives and achieve their monetary goals. This in itself will help to maintain their focus and the collective focus of the group.

    Looking forward to part 2

    Regards

    Grahame Brown (UK)
  • Thanks Eric and Nathan
it is so true and I am committed. yes.
I see it every day - its focus and commitment all the way.
really looking forward to the next session
    LOVE
    Nadav
  • Ooooocch; that hurt! But my goodness it makes sense - hanging in there for years simply isn't enough, you have to be focussed and consistent. It's not a new message but it's a very powerful reminder of what is required for long-term success. I can't wait for the next installment!
  • Kim Svensen
    Very enlightening.

Would you consider it was harder to break into Network Marketing 20-odd years ago than it is today?
  • I have no comments on video yet.

But this is so smart and right idea to return a little bit back and begin create good PR about out industry. Becouse PR goes before Marketing.

Thanks and I`m waiting a continuation!
  • ez2win
Thanks, Eric, for sharing this great man with us. Focus and commitment, that's the key. So simple, it's only a matter of deciding and taking action - daily. I'll certainly share this with my downline.
  • David Aragón
That´s why life is so good. And not just because of being in MLM but for the reasons that really make you be there. Stuck on life. Bumps and problems and walls are already there. The question here is: Are you ready to take the chance into thois big race and jump over all this walls? Thank you Eric for this information and my best regards to all of you.
  • Talya Mitzafon
Dear Eric, thank you for this lesson. I'm doing my first steps in this industry, I already decided to be a proffesional. My next step, after this lesson, is to improve and sharpen those two skills of mine. I am committed to succeed NO MATTER WHAT. Tank you and Mr. Ricks for the lesson you taught me.
    Bless You,
  • feltricks
Definitively that's the difference between amateurs and pros.
    Focus and consistency.
Sounds easy, but it's really what puts you in the higher level.
Like Jim Rohn says, "what it is easy to do, it's easy not to do"
    Let's do it.
  • Rohit Srimal
Hi Eric, two realy scarce but important prerequisites of success "Focus" and "Commitment" were touched in this video...i hope it is brought to the attention of everyone around the globe because of your initiative...Eric $40 million dollars in india means 2000 million rupees..thats...200 cr..its is very motivating..
  • Absolutely! Focus. Now, as Dr. Joe Dispenza (What the Bleep do we know - film) said in his books and lectures, lack of focus is one of the biggest problems of the human being's brain. So, not so easy to handle it for everyone, but there is hope for those who need to develop that key skill and there are ways to learn how to do it. Since we, as a big group of MLM professionals, we have the challenge and the opportunity to change the whole world mindset regarding the financial status quo, we need to learn how to become oriented to strong results in our lives, as a mass.

We need to create a critical mass of focused results oriented people: We need to feed and motivate those who are already focused by nature and to teach some others to become part of that mass.

Can you contribute to this big purpose, Eric?
  • Richard Brooke,

How are you my friend? I was just talking with a few people last week about you. I'd love to have you share your insights on the show sometime. You are a great ambassador for the profession.

    Eric Worre
  • Dee Pauletig
Such simple words...and such a huge task! It's a guantlet thrown down before us all!
  • Wonderful interview. Very centered low-key, internally powerful, non-flashy guy. Impressive.

The challenge he presents, to become/remain totally focused even in the presence of 'life happening', AND knowing, even expecting that most people are going to quit, well, that's it. Not becoming dejected when the organization you've built is a string of zeros, not getting angry or frustrated when they drop like flies, cancel their memberships, etc.

Look forward to hearing more of the actual HOW of doing that.
  • Hi Bones,

Many people get into the industry to get control of their life instead of giving that to a boss.

That works great if you have discipline...from my experience that is a learned skill.

Discipine, perseverance are all important. No "dipping my toe in water..." or "we'll see how it goes"

If we think like that we WILL fail.

I have a saying that I learned from Gary Ryan Blair...he says "Commitment is like pregnancy....either your pregnant or you're not"....likewise either you are committed and you will achieve the desired outcome despite obstacles or you're not.

Nothing great will be achieved unless you show leadership qualities, discipline on income generating activities, learn presentation skills and are able to duplicate those powerful words and mindsets in others.

It a business opportunity....it is what you make of it.

    Great information on that interview.

    Warmly,
    Kris Thompson
  • What a powerful tool to watch the two of you together. I have never seen Nathan live. He lives up to his legend. These interviews will become one of the most valuable believe building tools we can use to target those that need to ratchet up their vision and belief. RB
  • Kris Wilson
It's definitely the toughest aspect of growing your business. You must be a very discipline person and honestly be committed to what you really want to achieve. I can't wait to view the other 4 parts!
  • I could not agree more with Nathan's comments in this video with what it takes to succeed. I love the part where he states that "life happens to us all". Today, we are busier than ever. Society is pulling us in numerous directions at the same time. This "tug of war" on our time, our minds and emotions will derail about 95 percent of the people out there. If YOU make a sincere and deep commitment that you are going to be one of the 5 percent, then I believe you WILL be.

Realizing that "stuff" will happen in life and determining in ADVANCE that you will ENDURE whatever the challenge and will overcome it, then you WILL. Stay the course! Get back on your feet when knocked down! Never, ever quit!! If you make your mind up to do this simple, yet most difficult thing, then you will have success in all you do! It's that simple!
  • Jose Diaz
Thank You Eric for your efforts and the great info
you are putting forth at NMPRO. This is one of the best tools in my tool box.
I look forward to it everyday.
    Thanks a million
  • Focus and Commitment along with Never Quit are written where I can see it everyday, Why? because life DOES get in you face and distracts a person beyond belief! And damned if I don't have to stop, read, breathe and then repeat. I think the most profound thing abou this gentlemans comments is that is so so simple! I has to be hard, doesn't it? It's great to hear it again - focus. commit. repeat. Thanks EW! much appreciated!

  • Jim Pringle
Focus is certainly important....most of us are already focused on plan 'a', and not always is plan 'a' the j-o-b. It could be a professional or a small business owner. So to me,it is learning how to change your focus and keep the dream big enough to cause that needed focus when you are building your NWM business. And then focusing on the right actions that produce results....retail, recruiting, training.

Also, ...since many people will quit...and they will, a healthy business will have a solid product line that those who quit, will still use the product regularly.

Thanks Eric for creating this medium and promoting professionalism in this great industry
  • Focus and commitment... well, from now on I'm gonna focus like a-

    HEY LOOK! A PONY!!!

    I don't know if comparing your business to your marriage is a good analogy;
seems like overkill, and a little unfair.
I'm pretty sure there are big-time mlmers who have been divorced.

I got into MLM to NOT have another commitment/responsibility.
Maybe that's why I'm not earning $40 million!

I look forward to hearing the rest of the interview- thanks Eric
  • Great work Eric, Nathan is a real pro in MLM
  • Focus is an absolute key. No matter what things look like when we are focused we can see our desired result even when the smoke is thick.

    Thanks for the interview,

    Ced Reynolds

I would add - what people need to be successful in our industry is How to Build Capacity. And what does that mean - Capacity = persistence, capacity and focus.

So right on with this interview.

It's a skill set that most have not learned, how to build that capacity.

Also, that money is created exponentially through systems.

We all must have a system to build and secure our businesses.

    Thanks for letting me share.

    Elise
