Great debate! As a profession, I am a Marketing Director for a large company and we ahve these debates/discussions with the salespeople frequently. What is the difference between marketing and sales? Loved hearing Randy’s side. I prefer to think of myself as a marketer too, but I would LOOOOOOVE to be – and am working towards being – a world class sales person!

Marketing. Education. BUT, the industry is also called direct sales, isn't it? Or, is there a difference between direct sales and network marketing or mlm?

I love it! I really appreciate you guys for being honest and having this discussion and not being all “buddy-buddy. It was great interaction between 2 STUDS.

I think selling is the art of convincing or persuading and marketing is more about promoting and advertising. So if I help, assist and encourage you……..I'm selling. If I just educate and allow you to decide………I'm marketing. In other words, they are mindsets………selling is “getting”…….marketing is “giving”.

This is a sharing business that rewards all of us. We share the opportunity by educating other people about the products and the opportunity. First thing first, we have to 'sell' ourselves as we are the product of the products and the programs. It is the integration of all these activities (ie. selling, sharing and educating) that makes network marketing a business that it is. We just need to learn at WHICH stage to apply the process accordingly. For example, you can't educate them about the business before they are 'sold' about you.
