NMPRO #51 – But I Don’t KNOW Anyone!

May 11th, 2009 Email This

I’ve had so many requests to cover the topic of Prospecting so I decided to start with one of the BIG MYTHS in our Profession, which is… “In order to be successful in Network Marketing, you have to know a LOT of people!”  And when you’re done watching, please comment on the “Question of the Day” and put QOTD next to your answer  :)

At first I was a poser. Then I wrote a list of the people I had already talked to because I felt safe and it boosted my confidence to look and see what I had done so far. Now my list is 3 and growing. I will put my commitment in writing here today to add 15-20 people to my list, each week.
  • not written..... electronic means don't count as written lists :-)
  • 139 left, was 200, and 42 have come into the business
  • mariereineviollin
My list is 0 as of today May 18 2010

182 - I keep them in an excel spreadsheet and add and drop about 10 per week. I need to do more. A lot more.

    Arg!!
Alas I am a "poser", but that changes today! I've been at this for 2 months now so at least I can "nip the poser in the bud"!

  • Ok I did make a list of about 160 but I have not worked it properly - I think I almost regressed from amateur to poser (poseur in the punk rock days ;-)). Good advice - looking forward to the next show.
  • Erik
Great point :) Randy Gage also makes this point

awesome view, let's develop this active and growing candidate list. there are 45 on my current written candidate list. i had more before but i exhausted that.
  • Kent Oliver
I have a list of at least 2,000 to 2500 people, growing everyday. I don't see how I can exhaust it. I keep going
over and over until someone comes aboard.
  • On my current list I have somewhere around 200 people on it as of today... I actually ran out of contacts from my phone at 95 people... The good thing for me is that when I go to events and I'm out and about I collect business cards from people and off of bulletin boards and I add those people to my list as well.

    Hello Eric......

QOTD: Hi Eric, I have 63 people on my current list and trying to expand it as we speak.
  • I started with a written list of 53, from all those only one said yes. The rest all said, like you said, not now, maybe later... the list ran out, even thought I tried to talk them into the business I got the "it is enough, please don;t try to get me into this" And although I am not giving up (because I believe in what i do) the hopes are a little low now... thanks for sharing your videos!
  • Thank you, my list is of 64 contacts, then I stop because all of them said that network marketing was not for them.
  • Cleo-Singapore
Appreciate your time and effort and the motivation to do these series of teaching. Honestly speaking, i have only less than 30 prospects and i keep adding my list until i have stayed in this industry for a good 4years.
Get to know u in Facebook is a definite gateaway for me to learn and apply and be truly successful in this industry.

    Hallelujah ! amen.

    Hey Eric,

Thanks for this show and for the upcoming tips to come : )

My original list was about a hundred people (family, friends, coworkers...) but today I've hundreds of contacts as I'm learning how to grow it constantly (direct contact, networking, social media...) Some people are just 'new friends', some I approach directly depending on the context, both national and international, but I could learn still a lot on this matter!!! so waiting for tomorrow : )
  • Currently at 250, but looking forward to the upcoming videos to expand my list and business.

Thanks for all you are doing for the NWM community with this site, Eric. Much appreciated...

    Best,
    Scott
  • On my list is 65 people. I'm extremely excited for the show tomorrow. Talk about coincidences and for this i am truly thankful. I appreciate the work you are doing. Keep it up! Praise the Lord.
  • felmachris
Great video Eric. A bad habit I have is collecting a bunch of business cards at networking events. I then intend to put them into my data base, but only sometime do. I then intend to follow up with them after the meeting, but only make few calls. I have around 100 in my data base. Now, does my 700 plus connections on facebook and 500 connections plus connections on twitter count?

    Thank you,

    Chris Grob

Great video Eric. I have about 25 people on my list. Looking forward to growing it in a big way, not only for myself but for my team. Watching these videos has helped tremendously, not only to increase my mental confidence, but my posture of how I present myself more confidently as a pro. I was one of these people that had a resistance to NM but that is now gone. The key is prospecting, recruiting and duplication. Looking forward to greater success.

You got me! I was one of those mental list guys, who just thumbed through his rolla-dex calling people. I just started a brand new list today. Thanks for the kick, I needed that.
  • ericworre
Watch tomorrow's show on how to do it. Will help.
  • Connie Loeschen
I have 325 people on my list. Great videos, thanks!
  • When I first got started over 4 years ago, I had 130 people on my list. Today I have over 6500 people on my list. I constantly add more people daily but even if I didn't, I could just work my existing list and never run out of people to talk to.

I figured out very early in my career that if I made sure I had way more people than I could ever talk to, I would have a much stronger posture when talking to prospects on my list. The reason why is because if they said no, I know I have so many other people on my list that I didn't care.
  • ericworre
What did you do specifically to grow your list?
  • I talk about it in detail in my report that anyone can get for free by clicking on my name. However, the short answer is I did networking and I did marketing.

    1. Networking - Getting referrals, getting out to events and meeting new people, going online to different websites and meeting people, getting prospect lists of distributors on my team that don't want to do the business anymore, clients from my businesses, etc.

    2. Marketing - Buying business opportunity leads, advertising on pay per click search engines, advertising in home business magazines, advertising using articles and blogs, posting classified ads on the internet, a bunch of stuff.

Once you learn how to network and market you will never have a problem with having people to talk to. My biggest problem is prioritizing and deciding who I'm going to call because I have so many people that I could talk to.
  • QOTD 209. Thanks for the series.
  • Marsha
QOTD - I have about 25 names. I Held my PBR and all said no. Unfortunately my "warm" maket was a little cold. Some even openly displayed a dislike for the taste of the product by making faces. I felt a little embarrassed and wish I hadn't invited any of them. Also, my spouse who was indifferent to my involvement is suddenly becoming very difficult and disapproving of what I'm doing. I know that if it is to be it is up to me, however, right now I'm feeling a little beaten and unsure of myself. The only bright spot is the encouragement we get to do our daily self-development. I'm gaining some new insights and realize that I'm a work in progress, but there's hope.
  • ericworre
Keep your chin up Marsha. It happens from time to time.
  • Tanya C
QOTD. I have about 200 people on my list. I've talked to 166 but I got much more "No"s than "Yes"es.
Well, I realize that I am still an amateur because it's hard for me to find new contacts every day, but I keep learning how to do this.

Thank you for your encouraging words.
  • ericworre
EVERYONE gets more No's than Yes's. No worries
  • Mike
    Hi Eric,

Thank you for all of your insight and experience. I've been in the business for 18 months and currently have 500+ names, numbers and email addresses. I'm rather fortunate because my "primary" business and soon to be my "secondary" business affords me basically unlimited contacts. I am currently researching new opportunities. Any suggestions on that?

    Mike
  • When I watched this clip
I had 0 names on my list as i have no interest hitting on family and friends in order to grow my business. because i find these people only say "oh so and so this will never pan out" you'll never succeed.
  • ez2win
    QOTD
148 on my contact list. 38 have said no, 2 have said yes, 15 have said maybe, and the rest - 93 I haven't yet contacted. I prejudge many of them to be born losers and some to be successful and busy - so I procrastinate and postpone calling them indefinitely.

Your 5 points of growing the list (via the COLD MARKET... HEEEEELP!!) make me very curious. Can't wait for your training. Thanks again
  • Eric,
What a great show. I'm soooo looking forward to tomorrow's.

QOTD: Well, uh, yeah....I guess I'm a poser (OUCH - you cut to the bone on this one)
  • Dmitry from Ukraine
Right now I have 334 people in my list
  • Thank you Eric. I only have about 10 if I am lucky. I was a Hermit for about 5 years now. Didn't want to talk to anyone. Had my own future plans that didn't include peopling.
I am now using your videos for training my team. When I take off 5 I add 5 more, always rotating up.

  • QOTD - Wow Eric, looking forward to the next couple of shows to gain more knowledge.

Presently have a written list of about 980 names - Only contacted 110 about the actually business opportunity - Signed up 20 personally on my Team - some have said NO--(and that's okay)- some have said NOT YET (and that's okay too) --so as Jim Rohn says "Law of Averages" does kick in. Just like in Baseball - bat 3 out of 10 times (pays you 4million a year)...Fail 7 times and still bat 300%...

Love your messages...Keep "em coming" my friend.
  • I forgot to add this, I have 539 friends on Facebook, and I think of them as my list as well, but it is not written is just there. But I think its a good start!
    Federico
  • I have 112, I was continually updating it, but since cheating is out of the question, I haven´t added a new prospect in about 4 months. Shame on me!

  • My people list right now is around 500+/-

My candidate list is 1037 and needs pruning. Once upon a time I kept track of how many phone calls it took to get an interview appointment, how many appointments to get an interview, how many interviews to get a candidate, how many candidates to get a qualified one and how many qualifed to get someone enrolled. Besides the phone there are other ways to get interviews and for me most of them have turned out to be easier. Face to face interviews always work best but in today's internet world many of my interviews are long distance. Adding to the qualified candidate list is the list I will build in the days ahead. Knowing how and actually doing it has become an ever widening gap. Thank you Eric for making this opportunity.
  • Marina, Ukraine
All of that 87 people in my list are the warm contacts, I know this people very well and can talk with them. Some of them already in my team, some of them still thinking and there are some people who didn't have the information yet.
In this list I didn't put other 450 phone numbers, which I have in my cell.phone. Because a lot of them I didn't know very much. So I need to work also on this part of my list to make this contacts warmer.
Can't wait to see 5 things, which can help to growth up my list. :)
  • I have 110 people on my list.
  • Thank you for this!! We really need everything we can to improve our skills to become PRO and this video is very very helpful. Can't wait for the next one tomorrow!! I currently have 183 in my written list, though I have to admit I haven't written some people I've been contacting :S Guess I'm still an amateur, but I'm working to get to Pro.

    Thanks again,

Hi Eric :) I have 532 people in my current list, 400 I have already reached, 240 has been exposed, 31 said yes, the rest said no for now :) I have 132 to call for the first time, 160 in the 'call again' category :) Thank you very much for the reminder, I exposed 3 new people today, and added 2 on my list... :) And the list grows weekly!

I have a virtually endless list of people now. big thanks to mark yarnell and his holy grail training system. its not about who you know, its about how many people you can reach with a rejection free way. keep up the great work eric!
  • I have about 45. I go to events whenever possible, talk to new people, get their info and call them to start building a relationship, then ask who do they know? My list is always changing. If I had more, I couldn't keep up.
  • Jose Padilla -Venezuela
    Hi Eric,
Great episode can wait to hear more…..
Sorry for the long post, but this is an area in which I am very interested.
I have 655 on my list organized by country, already talked to about 80, mailed about 70. Some of the candidates on the list are people with which the relation is not very close but are form the near past others I have not talked to in the last 5 yrs. and some in more that 10 to 20 yrs. These are people that I have found through Fbook or other; I have gone back 15 years on my working carrier and up to 20 to 30 years in my school years, so people that I went to High school with and even middle school are on my list.
How to approach these people? I have heard to positions
    1. Go ahead and call them and give them a first look tool. Through mail not very good results.
    2. Build the relationship back up and when the time comes present the opportunity. Trying this one out, this is time consuming.
    My statistics:
Of all that I have called and given the first look tool personally (warmest market), 80% say they are interest. The other 20% say not interested or won't even answer mi follow up call, they all go back to the list to be called at later time.
Out of every 10 that I invite to a PBR 1 or 2 show up
For every 10 that go to PBR 1 signs up.
I normally invite to PBR 3-4 times anyone person, after that I put them back on the list to call in a few months.
    My current issue:
Having gone through the persons of my list that are the warmest market, I have to progressively approach the less warm market on my list. As the market gets less warm the number go down, and contacting them is harder gto do, I have not been so consistent with this market as I get discourage at times, but I get back up on the horse and keep trying.
Basically, I would very much appreciate any and all input regarding how to approach the less warmer market, and also which media to use. In many cases I have no phone number for some of the people on my list, so I use e-mail, and with, e-mail the numbers get really bad out of 40 e-mails maybe 1 or 2 take the time to look at the information.
    Cheers
    Jose

QOTD: I have 500 names, and though I have already contacted some, I don't know the appropriate way to reach the majority of them (I've been out of touch for a few years) without sounding that I'm contacting them because of the business, which is true although they're in the list because I like them. Can you share how you did this yourself with those people on the list?

Thanks for the episode; it showed me accurately how much of an amateur I am. It lets me know I am on the right path to Pro.
  • Ori
40 to 350. depend on which list. Not very organized. cant wait to learn how to list properly.
  • David
nice list a see here, I have only 30 people on my list.
  • 35 and working on being a professional!
  • Sylvie
QOTD: Hi Eric, thanks so much for tackling this subject, can't wait for tomorrow's show. I currently have 168 names on my list and try to add to it every day. Going through that list is another story! Looking forward to you advice on that one!!!
  • QOTD “How many prospects do you have on your written list right at this moment?”

Ah (cough, cough)... avoiding eye contact... (cough). Time to get to work.

Thanks Eric. My feet are MUCH warmer now. Ouch!
    I appreciate you.
  • that's funny!
  • Ipek Faydali
I have about 180 people on my list. Still need to talk to half of them...
  • Riana
Let's see ... on my written list, 216, in my "prospects to be entered" (into ACT) file, there's another 62, In my planner, there's got to be 15 or 20.... anyone see a recurring pattern here? As with my personal battle with keeping my office space clear and free of the piles that seem to create themselves, I get so caught up in the "needing" to have it all in one spot before i can "get to" making a quality contact (meaning a phone call, personal note, etc... vs. a "newsletter" type of a note/invite/etc) Very much have fallen into the trap of "ugh...this list is rather lifeless"... ;) I am fortunate to have the ability to meet & connect with people quickly, however, the follow up, urgency, and consistency is where I am clearly needing to develop skills. Knowing what I know, I think one of the best things I could do for my life and my business would be to consistently do the things that I need to do on a DAILY basis... then, there wouldn't be so much anxiety and stress around the last minute "inviting" etc... focus more on the BEING a professional than the DOING of the "stuff" that is not A-Level Activity.
Thank you for all that you do my friend...you are a gift.
  • Marina, Ukraine
    QOTD
I'm still bad with my list, it's only 87 people. But now I'm working on it! There are a lot of people, which I didn't put yet in my list.
As usual, I'm not a person who make friends by Internet or in some community or some where else. But now I start to do it. It's fun. There are a lot of interesting people. So thanks to our Profession, that we need to change some our habits. We need to learn more and to practice more.
Thanks Eric, that you are sharing with us your experience.

    Qotd:
I have 175 people on my list at this moment. About a fourth of them I have been talking to; half of them I have been emailing to. So enough to do for me. And have to grow my list, add more people to it.
Have to go and meet people more than I do now.
    Thanks for your help, Eric.

  • QOTD: I really did not want to answer this QOTD. I scored very poorly here, this may be the best topic for me to date.

okay... I just counted my most current list in my biz plan and it's got only 59 names and it's not even a fresh list either so this is def an area I need to work on. Really looking forward to this series! I must give this topic much attention!
  • QOTD: Hmmmm...25 on my active list...YES! PLEEEEEZE teach me how to keep this list active, growing, and vibrant - suspect that prospecting is the bottleneck for me...
  • Dear Eric
    I accept your challenge.
    I'll follow your guidance.

    My total list is 250.
106 candidate that I haven't spoke to them - yet.
36 that I need to get back to them.
    102 said No.
    6 said yes.

    Thanks

  • Well I gotta tell you that this was a coincendent that I was talking to a good friend and partner today about this very subject. We were just talking about our resources and contact list that we are just "TAPPED OUT"! The opportunity we are in is just not sharing the big picture like Mr. Eric is doing. From my understanding up to this point it seems that what they are teaching the beginners and intermediate (that's what I call it) people is basically all about recruiting our "WARM MARKET" and is not necessarily in our favor. I feel this is why majority of people who joins this type of industry never do make it. Is any one here in the N.F.L? "NO FRIENDS LEFT"!lol! Anyways, can we give Mr. Eric a big round of applause! Phenomenal but down to earth! Can't wait for the next show!

I have 3 people that I wrote in my list before this video. Like I said, I'm tapped out!
  • 138 people on my growing list. Have called less than 50% of them, emailed but not spoken to less than that very same 50%. Have not reached out to more than 10 people more than 5 times. The list is growing, but because my memory comes up with names of people going back decades and in several countries.

Very much looking forward to the continuation of this Professional and expert advice.

    Love NMP!

    hi Eric
i cant see clearly what you are getting out of all this
but shore enough we get so much
    thank you
  • Wow,Thanks to this great video,Eric !
I so missed these videos and SO NEED IT !!
I have to concentrate my lists, but now it's about 90-100 names..
and this is exactly what I'm doing - "constantly adding new names to my list", bringing people from "cold" market to my "warm" market .

    THANK YOU !!
    G.K.
  • Thanks for the video Eric. I look forward to the future videos.
