NMPRO #53 – A Message to Online MLM Idiots

May 13th, 2009 Email This

We’ve talked about the first two steps to creating a never-ending prospect list in the last show.  Today we talk about steps 3, 4 and 5.  Also, I have a very special message for the people who are doing a great job of trashing our profession by how they’re acting online.  :)   QOTD:  How hard are you prepared to work in order to achieve your dreams in Network Marketing?

    Career-saving stuff. THANKS!
  • QOTD: I am willing to work hours mastering this! I must master this skill!!! I must seek leaders!!!
  • Erik
Someone from NMPRO added my as a friend at facebook the other day, I do not know this person, but I added her because I like to know people and makes new friends. But today I was hammerd at my facebook page abouth her opportunity. I hope she watches this episode. But I have no hard feeling. Most people just needs guidance.

I love the Social Media commentary. Very pertinent as I had just started a group for "success stories only" on Facebook - out of spite for all the junk requests I got after posting on a few of them... My rules were simple: every time someone tags me, I send them an invite with this disclaimer: "Don't just post your Business... everyone here has one and the likelihood of anyone else paying attention is pretty slim!!! If you insist anyway... everyone gets the privilege to BOO you (using Comments)!

INSTEAD post your successes. We are all business minded here. We want to know who is succeeding and what works. If you are experiencing actual success, which you have to sell us on, then, everyone will be more inclined to take a look.

Don't try the typical marketing lines in this group! Be genuine. Act like a Pro.

Welcome, and we want to hear from you"

I had to post this/your video on the Wall for everyone to see!

I kind of doubt a lot of folks will join group... but if they do, "network marketing pro" will get free advertising!

    Keep up the good work.

Work is always the cleavage. It separates those who just want something and those who are willing to make it happen.
  • alltheverybest
Spot on Eric - especially about Social Media. It makes me cringe when people are so blatant.
  • I couldn't agree with you more!
  • cherisizzles
I love having a list of things to do from someone who knows what they're talking about. You know, those lists where successful people say, "Do these 5 things and you WILL succeed." I love that. I have my journal now, and I'm filling it more every day. Thanks Eric!!
  • Man will wait long time with mouth open for roast duck to fly in. Old Chines Proverb ;-)
  • cherisizzles
Classic. I love this proverb, thank you for making me smile!

How hard are you prepared to work in order to achieve your dreams in Network Marketing?

I can make it by 20 hours a week on prospecting , 6 hours on personal development , 6 hours on webinars and 4 hours to check up news on the web.
Think I need to talk to 20 people a day about the business 1 to 1 or by phone.
In the spare time I will go to my orinary job as acupuncturist and chiropractor.
  • 1BrutalTruth1
Man, I can't disagree with you there. Although I believe there are other offline methods to supplement
what you just said. I don't recommend internet marketing, either. I can't stop someone from doing it
but like you said, it's ALL about doing an activity that everybody can execute. I'm done with the 'quick bux'
syndrome so everything I do is focused on which activity will bring me PRI (permanent residual income)
for the next 20, 30 plus years that I can 'will' to my step kids.
  • makerofstuff
I am ready to work as hard as I need to. I am fairly certain that even with the MS I can do two a day.
  • chris
how do u prevent doing this?u r right some people are innocent idiots.....what to tell my distributors in order for them not to fall into this?
  • You can't lump them all in one category. There are spammers who don't know what they're doing and there are professional network marketers who are experiencing the first success they have had in years in network marketing. They don't even have to approach people and can still build lasting relationships. I advertise without mentioning my business. Top leaders are at the top of the search engines with their own personal websites getting tons of clicks. Why can't downlines be taught to do the same. There is more than one way to make money while building a business. Most people who are approached on the street give you their info to be nice but run away from you when they see you coming. I have lost good friends because of this. I have experienced this many times and the people that do enroll need training. I have done exactly what my up line said. Even did the conference calls with prospects. Where is my 1st and 2nd sponsor? Gone. Who is my up line now? Who is there to help me? It's up to me unless I am doing good by myself then someone will look to help me. I can do it on my own. I'm not here to complain but you said to agree or not to agree. All comments welcome. Could you answer why someone would join someone unless they have access to someone already successful? I have to become an expert in network marketing. I know there are traditional ways but they never work for people like me. Can I call you to talk to one of my prospects? I would like someone who is successful to connect with when I need that validation. Is there anybody that can email me that has time for me? Not to say that I need it but it would be nice. Anybody? Respectively...I want to see if someone cares about me or if Agel throws us out the window. Maybe some people will show up at my business briefing instead of just some more of my closest friends. Believing is hard for some but not for me. I'm already building a large following of good lasting relationships of hundreds that know i'm there to help no matter what business they're in. Seeing someone fail in network marketing is not fun and shouldn't be for anybody and shouldn't be made to feel as though it's their fault. It takes time to sponsor this way but once someone sees you as creditable and knowledgeable you can help tons of people. I see it happening and it's only going to get bigger. Either you stay with the old ways or get left behind.
  • denagottlieb
You project integrity. If only all network marketers would!
    Great stuff. Thanks
  • Brett_Whipp
    hello,
Ive been watching every show and its been great. i am learning so much.

i have a question or you... you speak about adding people into you book and thinking about a game plan later. for example if you meet someone new, lets say a waiter, has done really good work at your table all night. 1. what do you say to get details? (as you said just then you dont talk about the business, but dont also want to sound like your hitting on them) 2. how long do they stay in your book if you think, they would be really good in your business. and 3. what do you mean by setting a game plan and how do you use it?

hope you get to answer this.

    thanks brett from sydney Australia

  • Another great training show, Eric. Yes, I am prepared to work hard and I am already doing it. We are in the absolute best profession in my book. I love it!! Thank you for all the great info!!
  • Hey Eric,

Awesome show today, such an important message, re: the online idiots and you are so on the money in saying that they have the potential to trash the profession certainly from an online perspective. The difficulty is taking that list of contacts from the online environment and approaching people on it in an appropriate way, looking forward to your comments on the best approach to take.

    Warm regards

    Grahame Brown (UK)
  • Omar
Thanks Eric, I am just joining to the network marketing and I am convinced that it is the best way to get our dreams. Thanks for share your experience that help people like me to understand better how it work and how we can achieve faster our goals.

  • QOTD I am going to take it up a few more notches!

    Thanks,

  • Again, great job Eric.

Thank you for sharing this "real" info.

Love the part about MLM idiots... I call them Online "Pukers" - they puke all over you when they meet you for the first time.
  • Luis Gringras
    Eric

Incredible advices, thanks very much, I spect every day to see your next show.

    Be in touch

    Luis
  • Good to hear the Do`s and the Don`ts of our profession with such clarity. I especially enjoyed your input on how to use Social Media for online business building, and how not to... :)
I look forward to some elaboration on this in future shows, since there seems to be a great deal of confusion out there.
  • ericworre
There sure is. :) We'll keep talking about it. Change starts with us.
  • Someone mentioned the idea of OFFLINE MLM IDIOTS, and I agree that some of this "meet new people everyday" and tell them about your business LATER stuff is really "mlm cloak-and-dagger", and I don't have any experience where that's worked for me.

In fact, trying to train new people to do this has been disastrous as well.

So, I liked your original platform of saying "I'm a Network Marketing Professional", and being straight up about it.

It sounds like the message is a little conflicting, but maybe that's just me.

Who is the last person YOU sponsored this way?
  • ericworre
    Hello Bones!

First of all I agree there are Online Idiots AND Offline Idiots. :) While I understand your psychic damage on what you feel is mlm cloak & dagger, that's not what I'm suggesting. I'm simply stating that if a person lives their life and continues to raise their awareness about the people they meet, their contact list will grow. And, when and if they decide to educate one of them about their product or service it will be a natural extension of their relationship.

I"m NOT suggesting people go out like "Hunters" and meet people with the purpose of "Hurry up and be my friend so I can pitch you". I AM suggesting they expand their circle and if there is an appropriate time, then having a discussion.

To your question of the last person I sponsored this way. It was in fact the last person I sponsored (and most people I sponsor). We connected (through Facebook). We had some nice conversations, got better acquainted. Then about a month later during a conversation I said something like "Hey, we should talk about what I do. Maybe 1 + 1 could add up to 5. You open to that?" She said yes and became involved (She's going to be HUGE by the way).

    Hope that helps my friend.
  • Stacey Levin
I am willing to work very hard in order to achieve my goals in Network marketing! Thanks for your great advice and training.
  • ericworre
    Congrats Stacey and you're welcome.
  • Eric, I am grateful to you that you highlighted a very important topic about making contacts online. Most business people think that social media allow them to spread their business and advertise virally. This sounds great on concept. I have to admit that I was one of those idiots when started played out in the networks.
However social media are places where people want to hang out, and really don't want to be pitched on business opportunities or commercials. That's why they go to social media: to get away from all that. Social media is about adding value, not about pitching opportunities.
I am looking forward to getting more tips from you on this subject.

QOTD. I am ready now and the readiness is what matters.
  • ericworre
    Tanya, you are right on!
  • Great content.

QOTDA: I am willing to work harder on myself to become professional in this outstanding profession.

A dream that is too big is just about the right size.

I am revisiting my social media. Thanks for the tip. ignorance is expensive. knowledge is priceless.
  • ericworre
    Knock em dead Mike
  • Eric
I am soooo.... glad you addressed about online mlm idits. I was getting hits from people I don,t know. They will be blocked. Great info.
  • ericworre
    Hopefully we can educate them.
  • cwhelan
    excellent presentation - thanks Eric
To answer your question, I am floundering .. I go a couple of days where I am working hard and then more days that I am hardly working. Lack of results have me spiralling downhill and discouraged.
I believe my self motivation and my belief systems need a boost. I'm not a quiter ... so I'm encouraged that one day it will all make more sense to me and I will have the success that I see others having.
  • enriquecaz
I feel the same cwhelan and Eric, from time to time... and as you, I am not a quiter!!!, NM is the best thing I have ever seen to achieve my dreams and goals, to spend more time doing the things I lake to do with the people I love...

I hate being attached to this chair behind this desk, from 9am to 7pm... ughh!!... need it sooo bad to leave this kind of life!!!

Thanks again Eric for your friendship and your generosity to teach us and gide us.
    Enrique.
  • ericworre
Passion & Patience. A hard mix but an important one. You can make it.
  • mdudley
Great show today as usual. I have been in the sales industry for a long time and many sales people think that they can short cut the process and close people before developing a relationship with the person they are working with. This process can take a great deal of time but it is worth the effort to build the relationship first..in fact we don't have anyone in our downline that joined solely because of the business opportunity..they joined because of the product and because of us. Only as a result of their product experience and the relationship with us they began doing the business.
  • ericworre
Funny how people accept these concepts in "real life" and ignore them in Network Marketing, isn't it?
  • Eric,
That was really great and useful advice. Thank you so much.
It's great to learn from a pro like you.
QOTD: As hard as it takes.
  • ericworre
    My pleasure Jim

  • Luis Vasquez - Ecuador
Great topic Eric, it is so important to know how to expand your prospects list in order to be sucessfull and never lose hope....and very important for the people outhere to know how to use social networks to help them with the business ..This business is made with people who trust you first and want to do a business with you not the way around great advice Eric.

  • ericworre
    You got it Luis
  • cphillips
    Eric,
Each day I look forward to seeing what you have to say. I am never disappointed. You have a special way of conveying your messages that is interesting and non offensive. Thanks for all you do.
  • gfitzpat
Lists galore... I must admit I am not the most organized with my candidate lists... didn't stop my from sponsoring 25 people into my primary opportunity so far. Love the idea of the journal that I keep with me all the time. Dah! So simple!
    I started my journal yesterday.
  • ericworre
    Congrats!
  • Marina, Ukraine
    Great topic, Eric.
It can help me to grow up my list. Thanks.
I liked also your message for Online MLM Idiots!
I had just yesterday one of them! He start to chat with me on Skype as a person from "international company, which can help also with job". I understand immediately what is it, but was interested how he'll do it. He start to ask some question about new economy, if my income changed e ecc. Then I was tired of this and asked him: 'What the MLM company is it?' He sad that "he can't tell me, just in special materials and just his sponsor can speak with me privately, but before receive the admittance for this, I need to go trough special selection." I was shocked! Than I asked what does he mean about "admittance"and "special selection", but he disappeared.
So the people like this can destroy good opinion about our Industry!
I think we, as leaders, must to be very careful with our new team members. We must to learn them correctly, how to make "cold contact", how to speak with prospects, to don't receive at the end the same mistakes!
I think we need to work hard on it!
    Thanks once more!!!
  • ericworre
Great story! It would be an interesting assignment to take the next Spammer and "Educate" them on the right way of doing things. :)

    Change begins with US!
  • I re-wrote the question to myself: How well are you prepared to work hard in order to achieve your dreams in Network Marketing?
The answer: I will never be prepared enough, nor worked hard enough if before I go to sleep I can't tell to myself: "I did the BEST I could today"

All network marketing PROFESSIONALS have to think on a long term business and not a get rich fast idea. Success will come only if you are willing to do your best every day.
  • ericworre
    Love it Ana :)
  • brock
great point on the "online Idiots"!!!
  • ericworre
    :)
  • Carlos Aponte Jr
Eric, great training as always. Keep it coming.
  • Excellent Eric! It occurred to me that when someone says "I don't know anyone..." they perhaps are saying I don't want to know anyone.... The business is being a friend who is trustworthy. That cannot happen on one call and it often ends on the first one. This last year I took a good look at who are spent my time and saw many were playing much smaller than I or fed off my my dream without working on their own. Clearly I was building my excuse library. Willing to be friends may be the most difficult step for many. This is 90% personal growth and 10% activity. In answer to your question... I will do what ever it takes to be successful. Thank you Eric for helping make that possible.
  • Eric,

I like the concept of controlling the environment. Regarding building a list of names, I've proven to myself that it's much more effective to meet two new people a day on purpose. Yesterday I actually went into a bank and met the vice-president of my bank and invited him to lunch. It's something I should have done a long time back. My thought was, "even if he doesn't have an interest in my product or my business, this guy knows a lot of people he can introduce to me."

    Thanks again my friend,

    Ced Reynolds, CITRMS
  • Dave
QOTD - As hard and as long as it takes to make it work. GAME ON!
  • this one is just AMAZING !!! Straigh to the point !
    (like your other videos too,Eric:)

I am ready to work very very hard to achieve my goals and results !!
    Thank you !!
  • Thanks Eric,

I have caught myself several times using the Social Media and it just doesn't work...It is hard to get away from that mindset that one can build a hugh organization by joining all the networks out there.....Trying harder to build the relationships first and formost....

    Keep up the great stuff.
  • Joe
Eric- How many people have you sponsored by these methods?
Do you really use the social media stuff you talk about?
How many new people do you meet a week?
How many people do you sponsor a week?

Are you using this TV show to become the expert so people ask you what business are you in, and will you sponsor me?

What do you think of the Mike Dillard stuff?

You have been around for a long time (I hear), and so I just want to know how YOU sponsor people.
  • chemelo
    QOTD Easy....DO or DIE.
Thanks again for sharing your knowlwdge with us.
Great advice...How many times have we heard this from you or Randy? I need to engrave these steps in my mind as to never forget them, and practice, practice, practice.....
    Thanks
    Jose
  • Thank you Eric. I 've had the pleasure to head you in person several times and often I've wanted to rewind and listen to key points you bring up. Now with NMPRO , I can and have several times. Great Talking points, Great Website...

QOTD: I have committed MAY 1- JULY 31 or 92 days to " GROWING PRO" (not a typo) and realizing my dreams for my beautiful wife and I!
Thanks for all you do and I can't wait to for the rest of this series.
  • Pedro Lugo Hernández
Eric, the way you talked to us today is what Werner Erhard would call "ruthless compassion." As one who needs that conversation more often than not, thank you and keep it coming. Also thank you for teaching me how to not start being annoying online (and in person). I get it, and can put myself in my friend's shoes, as I have done this in person before.

    “NO CONOSCO A NADIE!”

    “Nunca comas solo” Keith Ferrazzi

    PASO 5
    Social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc..)
NO!

Si puedes ENCONTRAR, HAZ AMIGOS, HABLAR CON ELLOS.

QOTD (Question of the Day – Pregunta del Día=)

  • Eric,
Thank you for your advise, you are The Real Mentor I am so happy to have found you.I am willing and I am working very, very hard but people are very skeptical most of them do not believe in MLM like you said , because of the people that are trashing our profession.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Great training Eric. There's so many network marketers online who are proposing on the first date, instead of established a relationship first.

I work with Ivan Misner of BNI and he provides training on the VCP Process, which is to become VISIBLE to people through networking, to CONNECT with them to develop credibility and trust, and to PROFIT when there is a mutually beneficial relationship.

Many times in networking, online and offline, people attempt to go from Invisible to Profitability, without establishing the relationship first.

    Keep learning and growing!

Thank you Eric! Network marketing is not new to me, but I am new to it.

I've stuck my toe in the network marketing water so many times, but have been unsuccessful because I would get uncomfortable and timid when it came time to approaching people. I never learned how to do that, and the training you gave here about how to make a never-ending prospect list is going to help me a great deal. You don't know the huge favor you have done for me.

    Thank you so much Eric!
I wish you a prosperous day!
  • The last 2 days (as the 50 before) provide information 101 that is invaluable. You break everything down into simple steps that seem believable and possible.

Thanks again for these daily pearls of wisdom!
  • I'm running to Chapters right now~!!

    Thanks again Eric

First of all, I want to THANK YOU, Eric, for this great video.

    Be yourself...be a real human being...what a concept!!

Ask yourself...how do I react, what do I do, how do I FEEL when someone says
"Hi, nice to meet you. Look at my business! It's the next industry giant!!"

    How do you react?

Well, DUH... that's the same way others react when you do that to them!

I admit that I did that a little bit at first (both offline and online), but it didn't feel right...so I stopped.
Now I'm actually getting to know people and making solid contacts!

    ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT!!

QOTD: I am willing to work as hard as I can, to do whatever it takes, until...
  • The internet is a tricky place. "Usually" if people come to you by way of the internet, they will leave by way of the internet. Not always true, but most often true.
  • Very true.. was told to use facebook/twitter as a means to reach the masses. Been about 3 days now and no real movement with people being added to my company. you make perfect sense when you say prospect them off the social media scene. Make friends/make contacts but don't ask for there business immediately..Valid points. Thanks for your advice.

I am very determined to succeed in NWM. I know I have to worker harder to succeed. Spend more time calling and spend more time to meet more people! Have to attend a class or club or some other place to meet them.
Have to stay more focussed too. Working at home is sometimes difficult, because of all the distractions, the phone, the doorbell, household things to do etc.
Thanks for your stimulating shows, Eric.
    Regards
    Stella
  • QOTD:

  • Hi Eric

I have listened to many many MLM super stars and have never yet heard anyone explain the concept of the ever expanding list better than you and Randy Gage. You guys have a way of making it seem very sensible. (Well Randy Schroeder does it with a unique twist also!) The problem I have experienced is that when distributors try to explain it to their new team members it often comes across as .. everyone is your prospect and people can become kind of desperate, feeling as though there is no real marketing plan for getting people into their business. It also seems to depend quite a lot on someone's personality and how sociable and confident they are to start with.

When done right this works very well but when done wrong (which it is most often because most distributors have no experience and are being taught by other ones who don't have it either!) people come across as doing the infamous '3 foot rule'

Then we have an 'OFFLINE MLM IDIOT!' Lol. There are plenty of those and give us all a bad name also. The online spamming morons are now just the icing on the cake and if they weren't doing it online would be doing it at Tesco's.

Looking forward to the show about those naughty lying prospects!!
  • Hi Rachel, love your "which it is most often because most distributors have no experience and are being taught by other ones who don't have it either" statement.

Isn't it great to have Eric's site as a 3rd party resource to actually train new team members.

Eric, as usual; this is great stuff.
MAN, you make our life so easy!

There is one very important thing I teach my people because I truly believe so - and this vid just makes it so obvious:
People that are doing Network Marketing the RIGHT way, doing it RIGHT, are actually becoming better people !

So my goal in life in addition to make Network Marketing be my life's work, is to surround myself with these BETTER people.
    Slowly, one at a time.
I think I will make that MY Quote Of The Day in fact.

And the part about the MLM Idiots is SO very simple, yet makes SO MUCH SENSE !!

    See you on #54 :)

I wondered what the orange covered book was about !? since yesterday ! and hey presto, you tell us ! can you read minds then?
  • Eric, this prospecting/business building series is going to blow a lot of people away, both in it's brilliance and the achievability of your methods. Many more, I gather, will also be blown away by the fact that it takes consistent energy and work to succeed (in anything). There are those, as I was in the beginning, who will feel completely overwhelmed at the difference between what they thought they were entering into and the actual reality of it all.

As you know, one HUGE......... key to be able to continue on 'any' path is to stay focussed on doing more of the correct activities in small chunks more often; rather than trying to fill many hours with the wrong activity just for the sake of saying one was working on their business, for the latter will cause a very fast burn-out.

Looking forward to the next segment as usual and also looking forward to the interractions in the new comments protocol. Will be very interesting to say the least :). But then again, that's the beauty of what you are building here, an unashamedly 'open door' of experience and learning, and what better way to learn...

    QOTD: Hard yet smart.
  • ericworre
Great feedback as always Tony. You da man

    G'Day Eric,

Another great Topic covered in this series.

I started a contact journal when I joined the company I'm with. In regards to the social media sites, when I first started I received 'spam' about people's businesses and because of that, Whenever I make contact with someone new I always send them a personal message either thanking them for their friend request or thanking them for accepting my friend request.

I'm looking forward to the remaining episodes in this particular series.

QOTD: - To do whatever it takes and however long it takes to achieve my goals.

    Have a Great Day!

    G'Day Nic :)
