June 24th, 2009 Email This

A lot of people live under the misconception that MLM products are inferior and not good enough for retail.  Here is my take.  Enjoy!

Appreciate your insights, but are you not just discussing the marketing process, not the actual product or service quality
  • aliceflanders
As I said earlier, network marketing is a retail delivery system. It is much more flexible than regular retail because even though multi-national companies are involved, the selling on the local level is by local people who know the culture, rules, interests etc. of the local people.
  • KeithN
We have better products and a better distribution model. We have a better way.
  • Alfie
That's right! If you want to get a very good product, find it in network marketing companies. It's far better than what you see in tv ads.

    Hey Eric,
This site is amazing. So many people tell you your products are soooo expensive, etc and have no idea how good they really are. In fact they are so good it almost sounds like you are selling snake oil in a jar.HaHa. I love the way you get your point across. I will definitely use this video. Thank you for all the good info on here.
  • Erik
    Great show :)
  • Oh Eric...just reviewed this video post this morning...maybe just for that view in a divine summer setting...not like the frigid picture now on Jan 5th! Great content..and one I'll flag for new team members
to view as part of their basic training...
  • dr_dock
    Wonderful.
I already know one colleague I am going to send this to. He was the one telling me that you can buy the stuff MLM companies sell, on the internet and that there is no need for MLM at all...I know he didn't really think it through, but he meant to "protect" me. Sounds familiar, Randy ?
    thanks Eric for this gem.

Mike, I couldnt agree more! And you couldn't have said it any better
  • Regina K.Muita
Mlm products r perfect and consumble and quality
  • I have never thought about it this way - good points about retailing, Marketing is a tuff business and working it JUST right is a skill that has to be on the money for it to take off and grow.

Learning how to market your niche is important - and you can't go with the big guys when you come in - you go with word of mouth and people that are listening to you (your own list) Trust is a big part of marketing. Build your brand around you and who you are FIRST - not the product - then word of mouth comes in play.
  • Amazing
    just keep on going
You are making a BIG DIFFERENCE
I AM ARCHITECT, BUT ALSO WANT TO BE A NETWORKMARKETING PRO
I DONT WANT THE PAPER, BUT THE SKILLS
Does a formal Networkmarketing Universituy exist?
Why not all networkmarketing millionaires join together and do a formal Networkmarketing university?
You know, not 5 years, but 3 years of hard study, like when you study medicine or to be a lawyer
If I was 18 and were looking what to study, shure I choose networkmarketing university
Networkmarketing is the future, cause the world has change and is not gonna come back
The economy, the prosumers, the internet and the economic buble has make the perfect storm for reach the tipping point for our industry
Networkmarketing and prosumers are coming in
Traditional distribution and consumers are going out
A prosumer is smart than a consumer
I am a prosumer and also want to become a professional of marketing people with people
I like tro say "people to people marketing"
Well, I feel proud to belong to the industry and no matter waht company or product, we all have to assure to do it professional
Well done Eric, please keep going

All you have been doing through Netwokmarketingpro has been so helpful to me I can't thank you enough. Everyday I learn something new and inmediatelly go out to use it.
Someone in the 18th century said "He that has sense knows that learning is not knowledge, but rather the art of using it."
You r so right our products are to good for retail!
    Cheers
    Jose
  • I used to think MLM products were inferior. I had that mentality that you described at the beginning of this video. For the past year or so, I've started to believe otherwise, and hearing you say this just confirms my belief.
Thank you for posting this important video. These last two episodes are good tools to show to any skeptics we may come across.
    Great stuff.
  • So true! Like what I always tell people, compare an apple with apple, and if they can find me that the apple in retail is much better, cheaper, than I will buy back the product from them. Like one of the product (suitable for diabetic) I'm selling, people telling me why so expensive as 1 cost US20+ for distributor but when we look @ what retail is selling, it is about US40 and is NOT suitable for diabetic and what is inside is SO much different.
  • Love your terms Eric.
"Brutal". . . . , "Retail is Stupid". So very true.
That's why so many multi-billion dollar 'traditional' business moguls are now utilizing the Network Marketing or Direct Selling models.
    End of story.
  • Luis Gringras
    Eric

I worked many years in Retail, part of my job was squeezing the most I can from the vendor, many of them have to pay a great cost just to his products be in the shelf, most of them under estimate the cost of marketing, if they know the power of word of mouth, probably will try to market their products in MLM Channel better than Traditional Channel

Your explanation was simple and easy to tell, I often receive this kind of quistión, if the product is so great Why don´t we make a different business and offer it to a Retail...they don`t understand the issues you just mentioned.
  • lowellvickers
Thanks, Eric - the point about MLM products having a smaller margin because they are actually better quality and hence do cost more to produce makes another light come on for me!! Very powerful marketing fact!!

Love your show, and really appreciate your role in taking MLM to the next level!!
  • ez2win
To the point, Eric. This is the message we need to bring to the public. Without advertizing and shops, MLM products are making billions because they are the best. The only advertizing is word-of-mouth - which is actually the only honest advertizing. Thanks for this session.

That's so cool. It's never too late to "re-start" the right way. :)
  • survivor65
I totally agree. Think of all the great niches out there. They still build "old world" quality into their products. It brings to mind the guys who started Apple. They built them by hand in their garage. Look what it turned into. At one time it was a niche. Products that aren't extremely mass-produced are far better. Thanks, Eric. Interesting topic.
  • Great message! I totally agree 100%. I currently support the industry by buying many products with many mlm companies, that I am not involved with as a distributor: Pre Paid Legal, Send Out Cards, and Herbalife to name a few. I always tell people to support the industry, and that the products are generally better, as the profit margins are much smaller.
  • That great to see you do that, I use products from 3 mlm companies. It's a negative attitude to have when people who are distributors for one company wont even consider being customers for another other mlm company.
  • I cannot think of an MLM product where it's quality and price don't blow away it's retail competition. With network marketing products you actually get what you pay for. If it's sold retail in a store you know you are being gouged on both price and quality. Consumers have traded selection and percieved convenience for value. Perhaps there needs to be an MLM 'store' at the Mall of America set up similar to the early days of K-Mart where just kiosk operations reside in one place. ... just a thought about dinoaurs making a comeback.
  • Definitely true- retail is such a headache- displays, middlemen, getting shelf space, etc. It is FAR more profitable to do an MLM structure.

I DO think that the compensation plan definitely adds to the appeal of a product however, and sometimes that person you trusted so much recommending something to you makes them suspect if they're getting compensated for it.

All that being said, I still maintain that the MLM world can grow until we all are involved in multiple products frfom multiple companies. This "Recommendation" model should work for more than just one company.
  • ericworre
I agree on the consumer side. The biz side is much much harder to mix effectively.
  • So true - just like the movie scenario. I am much more likely to see a movie that gets a positive review from a friend than to go based on a trailer viewing.

So if a product adds value to someone's life, is recommended by a friend, and has a comp plan attached -- how can you lose?

    Best,
    Scott

No Q.O.T.D.? Well, I'll answer yesterday's. My favorite movie so far this year has been (it's along name) "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". It opened my eyes to the gift life is no matter the circumstances.
