NMPRO #90 – Mike Dillard Interview 4 of 4

July 3rd, 2009 Email This

In the final episode of our controversial, interesting and hopefully educational interview with Mike Dillard, we continue to discuss building value, defining moments and the incredible importance of detaching yourself from the outcome with prospects and even people in your downline.  Again, I have to apologize for the distracting noise from the pool.  Was tough but there’s not much we could do about it with the short time available.  Hope you found this series valuable.  I enjoyed bringing it to you.  Question of the Day (QOTD): Who else would you like to see interviewed on NMPRO?

Excellent points. Learning how to offer value and brand yourself is the ONLY way to have real and lasting success in network marketing especially online. I am Russia. http://acaijuice.ru/
  • aliceflanders
Roland Rhoades. I cannot tell you who he is without mentioning his company. He is a TOP person. His phone number is 1 800 775 1113. Alice
  • Erik
very interesting to see this again. But I must admit Im a bit sceptical to online recruiting. But needs to check it out right, find the best people and strip them for information right ? :)

Building and improving oneself is really important. Just like what we always say, if you grow yourself, your organization will also grow. Always make time for personal development.

AOTD: Tony Robbins, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, Vijay Eswaran
  • paulcopiernl
QOTD: Jim Rohn, Donald Trumph; Tim Berrie; Glen Jensen; Denise Clements etc etc
  • moniqueschlosser
I would like to see Dani Johnson interviewed.
  • John W
    QOTD: Brig Hart, Jim Rohn,
  • Thanks Eric,

Great to hear perspectives from a person doing the profession much different than most other top earners
  • Hmmm... I saw the interesting and educational parts. Where were the controversial ones? I think what Mike has done makes sense, and it's the basis that I'm using to leverage my limited time and resources to build.

I still do belly-to-belly, but having a machine operating in the background makes such sense.

    Keep 'em coming Eric

Great interview and advice on detaching from outcome. I needed to hear that.
Thank you for sharing so openly and for continuing to show that no one gets to a level of significant success without hard work and a little personal sweat ... even if it's during an interview !

Eric - another interview with wonderful pearls in becoming a Network Marketing Professional
    Hugs
    Chris
  • Mike's concludng advice to new Professionals was very positive, practical and achievable. The idea of mastering just one skill will set the ball rolling for those who do it. Ideally it needs to be a communication skill that has the potential of building a team. The thing I love about this business is that once you choose the skill and let your upline know about it, help will come. Thanks Mike, and thank you Eric for being so accommodating. Whilst our principles need to be unshakable, we do need to maintain our flexibility and tolerance of the flexibilities expressed in the styles of others. That's something I need to work on myself. I realise that now.

Thank you to Eric and Mike. All four interviews had great content. QOTD: Some people that I believe would benefit everyone in interviewed would be: Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, John Maxwell, Diane Hochman, Jonathan Budd, Les Brown, Tim Sales, Lloyd Tomer, Jack Canfield, Brian Tracy, Joe Rubino, Kim Klaver, Chris Zavadowski, Art Jonak, Tom "Big Al" Schreiter, Nido Quebin, Mark Yarnell, Mark Victor Hansen, Robert Allen, Eric Lofholm (script writing expert), Dr. Donald Moine, Arvee Robinson (public speaking expert), Matt Bacak, Steve Seibold, Ann Sieg, Adam Urbansk, Loral Langemeir, Jeff Combs,
  • I would like to see in your show: Donald Trump and Robert Kisosaki.
They wrote "Why we want you to be rich"
They are concern for the hyperinflation that is beginning, because the middle class is going to disappear. And it is true.
They want to help. Kiyosaki is one of the mentors of Mike Dillard.
Also I would like to see Warren Buffet. Donald and Warren are owners of MLMs, and are huge smart investors. Why not both of them make a MLM campus, with colleges, the DSA building, a history museum in the memory of the great leaders, a great stadium, amphitheatre, something to show to the world a huge message ? A building to detonate the tipping point, world wide visible, like the hotel in Dubai, Burj al arab, that one that looks like a ship.
Can be a MLM campus, or a “MLM valley”, instead of “Silicon Valley”
    Donald loves to think big.
Well done Eric, Once more, I learn a lot
Mike said the same thing that Kiyosaki says: pick up one skill and master it, then go to the other. Awesome
Thank you a lot, we are studying to become professional

Wow... did this ever hit home for me. Especially this #4 episode. I actually cried... and thank you both for sharing that you were in that place of total frustration and threw your hands up in the air at some point. I used to have posture - good posture, in fact. I started building my new co. like a rocket and then BAM! I don't know what happened. I lost my confidence. I lost my "edge." I have been soul-searching my weaknesses for weeks and months and instead of finding power and strength, put myself down further. The more I identified a weakness, the weaker I became.

Watching this was inspiring. It reminded me of the "power" we all have within us already. And right now I am holding myself back because I have spent the last 4 months stagnant, losing half of what originally came in... but I see now that it is as you said "just business." I just need to pull myself up by the bootstraps and get going again with the confidence that I had. And as Mike said to master a skill. I spent the last four years trying to master all of them... it got me far, but never did duplicate. I see now - focus on one thing to master - regain my edge - and the move on.

Thank you both SO MUCH! ((hugs))
  • ericworre
    Hugs right back atcha!
  • Eric...LOL... your just cool beans !
  • lowellvickers
Wow! Was aware of the "old school", "new school" thing going around, and as someone who has been fascinated by the industry for some time, but not having made that final commitment yet, I was becoming confused and discouraged by it all...this reaching out to one of the "new schoolers" was truly inspired, Eric! Thank you!! What the 2 schools have in COMMON renders the trivial differences negligible!!
QOTD: Ann Sieg, John Fogg, Tim Sales
  • ez2win
Thanks for interviewing Mike. I'm following him and learning on Twitter. QOTD: I'd like to see Brian Tracy who's developed a Mastermind Marketing system; Tim Sales - my first NM guru; and loveable Jim Rohn.
  • Hey Eric,

I wanted to watch the whole interview before I put my two cents in. I think your interview with Mike has been a revelation, as you managed to dig deep and allowed us to see a little of the man behind the online persona. As far as I am concerned Mike Dillard has been a huge positive influence, and was my original inspiration for moving from traditional direct sales and back into Network marketing.

Mike's results speak for themselves and my only disapointment has been seeing people on this forum, when presented with the opportunity to learn from two industry greats for free, choosing to focus on chewing gum, dark glasses, and sound quality, come on guys, get a grip!

Thanks for a great week Eric. Will you be putting this together as one segment as you have with some of the other interviews? It would be really useful if you could.

    GB :)
  • @Ericworre Interviewing @Mike_Dillard has been a privilege to witness. Network Marketing is truly a Better Way, and the contributions you both have made - and continue to make - greatly serve the higher purpose of getting the word out and helping more and more people.

This series has touched on some really basic essentials for success as well as on controversies that are fueling the on-going evolution and systematization of our profession.

I salute you, Eric, for courageously providing this platform, and for all that you are you doing.

Happy Independence Day! T'is truly a time to celebrate.

Question of the Day: Ann Sieg, John David Mann, John Milton Fogg, David Feinstein, Mike Klingler, Bob Burg, Seth Godin
  • Providing value is a way of attracting people into your business, rather than chasing after them.
Make the effort to develop at least one skill set so that you will be able to provide value to your prospects. Once you you do that, your prospects will recognize the value of working with you, and will want to follow you. This is what attraction marketing is all about :)
Thank you Mike and Eric for sharing this discussion with us!
  • ericworre
My pleasure. Thanks for your consistent insights. They are appreciated.
  • Kim Svensen
Fantastic interview with Mike Dillard. Thoroughly enjoyed it & got a lot out of it.

QOTD: Jim Rohn,Art Jonak,Josephine Gross & Ramin Mesgarlou.

    Thank you Eric.
  • Great week Eric! So glad, you brought in Mike. It was kind of interesting how at the end of the week, you and Mike both pretty much said the same thing, "Bring Value", "Master Skills", "Posture", and "Lead Others". I spent 8 Months in my first company and didn't sponsor one business builder, and quit. In the last 30 days I have sponsored 5 business builders and have had some months where I have sponsored as many as 10 - 15, since learning about attraction marketing. Becoming a leader in any MLM is all about as Mike said, "You must have value to offer someone" and master at least "1 skill-set".
  • Great job, Eric. Mike Dillard's project is indeed 'controversial' and this makes the interview with him an invaluable piece.
Some names that come to mind for interview: Distributor leaders: Dan McCormick, Jeff Mack, John and Gisselle Sexsmith, Phil Steinberg, Aaron Schuster, myself... And trainers: Tim Sales, Kim Klaver.
  • Great Interview.. Interesting seeing someone who does the business a completely different way provide value to this format.. Personally i enjoy the different venues that NM Pro has been shot. Very cool and it keeps it interesting.

QOTD: Seth Goodin, Robert Schuller, Robert Kiyosaki, Dave Ramsey (That would be interesting), Tony Robbins. Donald Trump (I'm not so sure he gets this industry though) Wes Anderson, Bobby Mitchell, Bob Proctor, John Wooden... I know many of these aren't NM professionals but I believe they'd still add value to the website and might spark interest in the website and profession. I'm sure there are others I just can't think of right now
  • lisamb84
AWESOME interview, especially this last one. Thanks so much, gentlemen, for sharing from your heart about the struggles to make it in this business. If you did it, so can I!
  • ericworre
    Yes you can!
  • Thank you Eric and Mike. Excellent content!
Very incouraging for me because being extremely shy I find provement that this is possible to overcome. Mike said that he was also a shy person and actually that was obvious even during the interview.

Yes, we have to master one skill at a time, developing it to the fullest potential. Then we feel profesional i.e. emotionally detached from the outcome.

QOTD: I vote for the ladies who are the best professionals of the industry: Ann Sieg, Dani Johnson.
    Regards, Tanya.
  • Great interview. I think Mike ended it very well as far as his word of advice where he said go master just one skill set. If you aren't recruiting anybody it's simply because nobody feels that you can add value to them.

QOTD - I would like for you to interview Jeff Olson!
  • ericworre
    :)

    Tim Sales
    Jan Ruhe
    Denis Waitley

  • Wow I am so excited there is a dialogue between a world class traditional network marketer and the master of the new online model. There are so many similarities between the two but so much misunderstanding also. I think you have made a really positive step here Eric in reaching out and interviewing Mike.

It is so cool being a 'fly on the wall' and listening to you interview all these amazing achievers. Your show is providing more value than many paid personal development programs out there. I am going to watch this one again!
  • Great interview guys. It was really valued for me. What Mike did in network marketing profession helped a lot of marketers.
    QOTD: Seth Godin
  • Oh this was good !!!

I am sorry to hear you (Mike) had some hard times you went through but it is always good to hear those at the top of the success market did not get there by waking up one morning and poof you were you there. You said 5 - 6 years with out even furniture in your apartment - (Again the become rich in 6 months was squashed) - it took years for you two to get to this level and it was a true journey.

Thank you for sharing the inside of you -

    I have decided - I am going pro -

Question of the Day (QOTD): Who else would you like to see interviewed on NMPRO?
    Ann Sieg or Perry Belcher

  • Here from Spain in 36 degrees. What a treat to see you Eric and Mike together. Hopefully this will begin to unite the Old School and the New way together and take the best from both.

I walked away from my MLM 18 months ago and found Mike Dillard and I began to learn new skills sets to take me back to my MLM and build new skills sets. Watch this space!!!

I would like you to Interview Mike Klinger and Ann Sieg as I believe they can also demonstrate how to develop an MLM businesses and become professionals.

Thanks for what you are doing.

  • Hey Eric,
I've been enjoying your videos and would just like to say I did especially enjoy this series.
As you approach #100 I must say i enjoy watching you hone your craft.

    With my Respect,

    Jim
  • Become world class at one thing... then another... and another...

Not for the weak and faint of heart. My experience is many have been trained for a job where mediocrity rules..until now and layoffs are the rule of the day. It is time for a wake up. Jim Rohn wrote, “The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy.” I say it's time to recover the sadness instead of covering it with happy flakes. It is time to go PRO!

QOTD: Jim Rohn, Bob Proctor, down the road... Randy Schroeder would be very interesting. Lou Abbott has interviewed many successful networkers too and is full of insights.

This is a great interview to watch again over the 4th of July weekend.
  • i know there was a lot of back in forth in the comments section on the first couple segments of this interview but to me this was one of the best. I'll be watching the full uncut version a couple times over (with notepad) for sure.

QOTD: as i was downloading this episode i read the QOTD and decided to put Tony Robbins, and then Mike mentioned the Tony Robbins quote that helped change his life so that was pretty cool.

Tony Robbins PPII was my first exposure to personal development. I've walked on fire with him at his 3 day UPW event and have bought literally every course he has available. I’ve not heard anything from him directly about Network Marketing but I do know he got his start with direct sales with Jim Rohn and I’m sure he’s a fan of the profession. I don't know if you know him or not but I do know you two have several mutual friends… I'm confident you can make it happen.
  • I agree with the power of mastering one thing. But i also belive that there is power that comes from the team. I like the apporach of having people join our team with/through me. That takes the pressure of off me having to demonstrate a high degree of personal value. A well promoted team culture is VERY attractive. People want to belong to something!

I would like to see an interview with Richard Kall
  • Bruno Cyr
I'd like an Interview with Tim Sales !
