NMPRO #91 – Mike Dillard Interview Complete & Uncut

July 6th, 2009 Email This

Since the Mike Dillard interview series was so wildly popular, I thought I’d provide the complete and uncut version.  Tomorrow, I will give you some thoughts regarding all the controversy and discussion this interview kicked up.  THEN, we will begin a special 8-part series leading up to our 100th episode where I will reveal a secret I’ve never revealed before… something the top earners themselves haven’t figured out how to articulate… The One and Only True Secret to Success in Network Marketing.  No joke.  Question of the Day (QOTD):  What are YOU training for?

Great interview. Personal development is really important.

Past comments from this video is also interesting. I love this community.
  • I really love watching interviews like this. As a viewer, I feel like I just received a year's worth of training (boiling down to one thing - increase your own value) all bundled into one poolside package from two top leaders in this profession. Thanks Eric.

Great interview, you guys are great, but internet marketing I don't know much about.
This is just an unrelated comment, but It's amazing to me how much I learn from the MLM doubters of the world, because many times they show me where work needs to be done.
My concern is that a lot of the online marketing and sponsoring makes our industry look cheap as a whole. From the many "follow me" millionaires, to the cheap you-tube videos, to the banner adds trying to take you from your company to another. The whole industry unfortunately lacks class, of course that is what we are out to change, and I believe one on one, or one on many mentorship is the foundation.
I don't know how unconventional Mike is, but all the luck to him if his ways are ethical and make the industry better.
As far as the unethical sharks out there that hack away at existing business owners with catchy lines, crazy earning claims, etc. these idiots should be tarred and feathered because they are the viruses in our industry that make it look bad. They are the shady auto mechanic that makes you thinks twice when you bring your car in, and the ambulance chasing lawyer that creates so much criticism in that field.

I have updated this comment after watching the interview several times and apologize for writing the first time from my first knee jerk reaction to it. Despite my present beliefs on using an internet based sponsoring system, it is filled with great info, and I really enjoyed it.

That's a very good point on becoming emotional detached to your prospects. It is less stressful and positions myself to be a professional instead of an amateur who winds, most of the time, begging the prospect instead of sorting them out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas Mike and thanks so much Eric for all the things you are doing to help us all become professional networkers.

Thanks for this interview, it was fantastic.
QOTD: I am training to be the very best that i can be. To live my life full out and in abundance while giving others permission to do the same.

Anyone who watched this video and all they can think about is how much they don’t like or don’t trust Mike because he is wearing sunglasses and his affiliates supposedly spam you. YOU ARE SO MISSING THE POINT!

Personally I have never been spammed by Dillard’s or Seig’s people… every email I get is because I opted in, and when I cancelled it was cancelled no more emails from them. NOT ONE SPAM!

This is a fantastic interview with some great information…

There is so much more in this interview than you shake a stick at…

And anyone so bold as to second guess Eric Worrie has got to have their head examined. Just my humble opinion. :o)

    BUILD value…. That is KEY…

The emotional break down, and being mad at God, and being at the point of breaking… then coming through the fire! Proof that they wanted success so badly they were willing to find away or make a way.

Not being emotionally connected to the outcome…

WOW so many gems and so little time.. lol

If you are caught up on Mike and his sunglasses… you missed it all…. So, so, so, sorry…

    WOOOOOW
    GREAT LEADERZZZZZ!!!
  • Hmmm....sorry for being late on this one, but I'm travelling now and it postpones everything a bit. At first when I heard that you brought Mike Dillard on a NM show that's supossed to be serious and professional I was devestated and furious. In my mind this man is an imposter who brings a bad name and reputation to our industry by advertiseing his stuff with lines like "The secrets your upline dont want you to know!".

Nothing could be further from the truth because any upline is interested in your success and would share everything that works, if he's any good.

Viewing the interview does not change my mind - I simply can not stand this guy, alone the sunglass thing is in my mind removing all credability as I do not trust anyone siting in front of me atempting to convince me that he's a serious business man as long as he hides his eyes from me while talking.

Sorry Eric, but I think this just brought Networkmarketingpro.com to a level shared with the spam marketeers and the pyramid scheemers - Mike Dillard is a self proclaimed "professional" of Spam marketing and has done nothing but ruin the little fraction of good reputation the rest of us is trying to put into the industry. Please never again use such people on this show!
  • Mike
Your attitude is probably why you went out of business.
  • Hi Mike,

I didn't know that I was out of business - thanks for enlightening me :)
  • Wow, there is a lot hate in your post. In truth, Mike Dillard uses Pay Per Click Advertising. If done correctly and ethicly, internet marketing can help many people who are trying to get more leads while prospecting offline too. Just try to be open minded and understand that you can be professional online and offline. And people are unprofessional online and offline. That's why you can make a difference and be a great example right. ;)
  • When it comes to being a great example I hope that my example stands higher then Mike Dillards. I'm sorry if I offend anyone here - but from where I come, Mike Dillard's work makes the industry less serious less credible and I think it's very very sad that so many people fall for his show because just as the industry is starting to get a much better reputation then what we had in the 90s, he shows up to make it all worse again.
  • I seriously doubt it is all worse again. LOL I wouldn't worry about Mike Dillard messing up anything. This industry is booming, and there can be no better time to get it than now. So many people don't know about him and never will. But I do know a lot of people who have received his help and have finally made some money in this industry. I think what you don't like is that he targets network marketers who are struggling, but many of them have received his help and finally had some results. Or...maybe it's because he just uses the niche market of struggling networkers (most networkers struggle actually) and makes money off of them by selling his products. Magnetic Sponsoring has been sold to so many people. I even bought it for the measly 40 bucks. I have to say, it was very good information for the money too. :) But I guess I'm an optimist.
  • David, you are absolutely right - the industry is booming and theese times are most likely the best there's ever been for the Network Marketing industry. But...what I am saying is that if people like Mike Dillard are allowed to continue bad mouthing the industry with lies then it could very well turn all worse again.

When it comes to targeting struggling Network Marketeers....

Acctually no !! That he's targeting network marketeers who are struggling is not my problem - my problem is his aproach - he markets his stuff with lies (i.e. the "secrets your sponsor or company dont want you to know"!) - for one thing this is a big fat lie - because if there is a secret outthere (other then hard consistent work) then nobody would be more interested in giving you that secret then your sponsor and your company. Again - when that lie is spread all over the internet, which reputation do you think it gives the industry? Right on - not good, because it displays the industry as fraudulent, corrupt and exploiting - everything the industry is NOT!

Another thing, Mike Dillards personal attitude trickers me a lot, the key to success in this industry is honesty, openness and genuine interest, and when someone who's allready proven himself to be spreading lies about the industry for his own shor term good then I finally loose every bit of respect for the guy when he needs to hide behind sunglasses.
  • I can understand how you feel. There is no secret to this industry but real marketing and team building skills. I always thought that the secret that Mike Dillard was referring to was that most people fail in this industry just like most direct sales industries. The truth is, many marketers and leaders don't tell people that the majority fail. It's not some secret. I think that it is just reality and some people try to cover it up because they don't want people to quit. When you have a big organization, what you don't want is attrition. It's no secret to me because it is what it is. It's the hype that has been the problem in the past.

People don't only like Mike Dillard for his approach, but they don't like all these marketers going out and trying to hard sell people. That is what happens MOST of the time, and that really makes Network Marketing look bad--a bunch of people throwing up their opportunity or products all over people instead of building relationships and leading with value. But, you don't have to like Mike Dillard. I understand. Personally, I could care less what Mike Dillard does because it won't make that much of a difference.

When all the dust settles, all that matters is that someone truly has the skills. And when they have that, nothing will stop them. There could be 1000 Mike Dillards and it still won't matter. Network Marketing is here to stay through the good and the bad. But you have a right to focus on people you don't like. I focus on marketing not on people that I don't like in this industry. I can think of many that I didn't like in corporate america, and they were in reputable companies.
  • David,

Thanks for a nice rely. I do however not think that most people fail in MLM. A lot of people dont reach their goals because they need to change their mindset into being business minded and because they need to get rid of their fears, most people who "fails" do that because they are afraid of rejection. That fear you need to remove in order to make them rockstars. I have a very good example. One guy in my downline has spend two years making appointments and then cancelling them again on the day of the appointment. But now he's changed and he works serious and consistently and results are starting to happen for him. But did he fail before? No because he did not even make a serious attempt on starting!

Another thing is, we often refer to the housewife making 100 USD a month in Network Marketing as faild, but remember not everyone wants to be finacially independent, some people are more then happy making a little on the side, and if that's the situation for the housewife I mentioned above then she's not failed - she achived what she set herself up to do !

You should also watc this show: http://networkmarketingpro.com/2009/12/17/nmpro... when it comes to why or if most people fail in Network Marketing.
  • Well, you know that people have these unrealistic expectations. Just like Len Clements said in the video, most people quit before they make great money. I call it fail, you may call it never made a serious attempt on starting. I'm just stating the obvious. Most people won't make a lot of money in this industry and this is comparable to any sales industry, such as insurance or real estate. Whatever the reason is: fear or giving up before making money, people just don't keep going with it.

I have people quit all the time in my organization, and some do stay in and make some side money. But the reality is it's a personal decision. I can't make people work daily and commit to 2 to 5 years. They have to decide that own their own. I don't want people to quit, but I think that many people want quick money and are not willing to invest in themselves. Hey, that's why we have to look for the eagles--the ones that will make it happen. However, many just don't believe and like you said..have fear.

Another awesome interview. Can't thank you enough Eric!

I was recently made aware of your website and your videos. I've been in network marketing for over 6 years with just a little success.

I watched the Mike Dillard interview and I was hooked. I watched every video on your site and got a new excitement for network marketing. I realized I need to change and will now really buckle down and work my business like I should have previously.

Thank you Eric fro a great site and the inspiration it has given me to make the changes needed.

Wow, you got caught up fast! Welcome to the journey my friend.
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
Been a while since I watched you, Eric.
Interesting and Good interview. These themes are always helpfull in the process of becoming a NM-Pro.
This feels like real teamwork towards success.
    Thanks Mike
    Thanks Eric!
  • Again proving that network marketing is perhaps the best personal growth/business growth training ground in the world. If our business schools required in-depth training similar to the model behaviors one MUST implement to succeed in MLM, we'd see the economy grow ten-fold in a matter of a few short years.

    Nice interview and insights, Eric.
