NMPRO #101 – Randy Gage on Multi-Level Morons 1 of 4

July 20th, 2009 Email This

As we begin our journey through the next 100 shows, I’m going to start off by spending a week taking you on a ride through the canals of Amsterdam with MLM superstar Mr. Randy Gage.  In this multi-part series, we’re going to discuss a number of very interesting topics, but today’s show talks about the debate between “Old School” & “New School” techniques and what he believes people are doing wrong in the online world in relation to the Network Marketing Profession.  This whole series is interesting!  Tell your friends.  Question of the Day (QOTD):  If a hidden camera followed you around for the last week, what would the results say about how you’re treating your Network Marketing Career?

Awesome stuff and straight talk from 2 straight shooters.

    Thank you.
  • Nice video. I totally agree 1000%
Use the internet to build relationships FIRST... then allow some of them to naturally attract them selves to your business, by showing them you live an attractive life.
  • Great video! I'm not sure if everyone understood what Randy did with his last 2 recruits off the internet but I did and that is actually pure GENIUS!

All of us have different hobbies and interest and we have people in our warm market that we associate with those hobbies. For example, I am a big fantasy sports fan. Fantasy sports is basically a game based on an actual sport (i.e. baseball, football, etc) where you draft players that play on real teams to put together your own team. You then compete against other players and score points based on how those players perform in real life.

So what I can do is use tools like Twitter and Facebook to connect with other people who are into fantasy baseball. I build a relationship with them. They now become a part of my warm market. Now that I have built a relationship with them, I can recruit them just like I would anybody else in my warm market. You can do that with pretty much ANY hobby or interest you have, whether it's golf, video games, a certain religion, building train sets, whether.

That makes a lot of sense and the benefit of that approach is you just might make new legitimate friends, which is a greater benefit, in my opinion than whether they join your business or not. Of course, if you become legitimate friends AND they join your business, all the better!

Now while what Randy talked about regarding social spamming is important, I don't think that's what the debate is between old school vs. new school. The debate is that there are some people who believe traditional strategies to build a network marketing business are inferior to internet based strategies to build a network marketing business. There are some people who believe the opposite. Then there are some people (like myself) who believe both are effective ways to build a business.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a somewhat direct pitch, depending on how you do it. Like for instance, I hate when I accept someone's friend request and they immediately pitch me on their business. That's so annoying especially when they know I'm already in a business. However, if I'm going to my business opportunity meeting, I see nothing wrong with tweeting something like "On my way to free some more people out the Matrix" and then putting my website. I've signed people up from stuff like that and so has members on my team.

QOTD: Based on what I did last week, they would say that he does the bare minimum because that's exactly what I did last week, the bare minimum!

What's wrong with you Randy? Green Lantern is the bomb!
  • Enrique
    Eric:
Randy talked about sponsoring his last two distributors by having something in common with them. If you were to meet someone in Amsterdam, and they would would ask you, What do you for a living? You will answer I am a Professional in Network Marketing, and the person would answer: Do you work for Cisco on an IT department?
What would you say? What kind of questions would you ask him to find out if they would be interested in your business?
  • I remember the old days when my fax machine never stoped for all the junk faxes I received at all hours of the day or night.

Nothing new between unwanted messages on the Internet or off the net. Only a different form to deliever those messages. how about all the junk snail mail we use to receive.

Bottomline the Internet has greatly leveled the playing field for a person to succeed. Now a person can sponsor people on a global basis. Where as before tonly the heavy hiiters that could afford to travel could do this.

In this "New School" Eric, you are able to broadcast your messages globally for little cost. Your team is always in touch with you via New School MLM marketing. It's the webinars, emails, websites, social marketing, twitters etc.

Old School, MLM is virtually dead, but not quite. Still leaders want you ro make a list of family and freinds only to be rejected as before. Too many leaders have no idea about how to utilize these new tools to their and the teams advantage to "attract" and build the team as a whole. That's the real sad part about New School MLM.

  • I think both schools have the same fundamentals: good practice, and that has to be with each persons quality.
  • Nice to travel in boat through Amsterdam channels with you guys. Amazing.
I just get into Twitter 15 days ago and I agree, like in everything else in life, quality is difficult to find. And we must always choice the best quality, in everything we do in life, also Twitter and our business. We have to make an effort to be aware and choose always the best, that means QUALITY, beginning with our thougts. Social media is better if we use it for just meeting new friends and help them if we can and they deserve it.

Before this amazing travel by Amsterdam, just 3 hours befores I read the book Randy recomend me in one of his email lessons, "As man thinketh" by Allen James. Short and deep meaning profound. Thank you Randy. Both of you guys are doing an incredible job, and I feel very glad we are in the same team. You both have share your very hard experiences to get were you are now. Value things demmands a high price. It can't be other way. There is a equilibrium in Nature and we have to respect this natural laws. If we want greatness, we must pay greatness. There is nothing bad paying, we should be gratefull doing it. The book Morals to the 21st century, by John Baines, is an incredible book I recomend to both of you and everybody who wish to undestand in a scientific way, how Nature interacts with our lifes through specific Nature's laws.
Have a good time in Amsterdam and see you in Utha.

  • If a hidden camera were following me all day? It would probably be a dream after seeing A Clockwork Orange or Dr. Strange Love. A double matinee. In this dream I'd be walking with my wife. The ownwer of the camera would probably be a paparazzi who would probably have mistaken for Brad Pitt and Agelina Jolie. Just an honest mistake. http://localadlink.net/Felipe http://mytrivani.com/works Answer of the Day.

answer to QOTD: results would be: taking his NM-career serious.. More then ever

Old school and new technology always collide. However I think that this is the way it will go in the future. I am having a blast learing all the new ways to add to my business.
This last week would have been a good week for my candid camera! I have been on task all week!
And still made the Deans List!!!
  • The hidden camera would say:
THIS MAN IS SPENDING A LOT OF TIME TO LEARN TO BECOME PROFESSIONAL !!!!
  • spatch
    Dear Eric & Randy,

Could not agree with you both more! I think we repel people and hurt our profession.

Hi to Eric from TPN days! You look great!

    Best,
    Patti Ross
  • I actually do not like social media sites to much, Twitter should be renamed Spamter. Unlike Iceburner I believe the Internet makes people take on very false persona's, haven't you noticed all the "Guru's" out there. I do a small amount of Social Media stuff but mostly I am out there talking real person to real person (call me old fashioned). The way many Multi-Level Morons are using SM to get their message out is HURTING OUR PROFESSION just the other day someone spammed several hundred of us with 12 messages in less than an hour on Meetup.com, NOT GOOD FOLKS.
  • This is simply awesome Eric.
  • dr_dock
Yes, this is why I am creaming out who follows me on Twitter, because if I don't know them, it's usually some wholesale internet or MLM "moron" ...and have to spend time daily to delete all that spam
by the way, it's nice to see that you have showed us some scenes of Amsterdam, ...as requested !
  • The internet resembles unlimited parties going on everywhere simultaneously and it's also as many lakes, rivers and ponds to go fishing. In the real world it takes only a couple people to ruin a great party or disturb a great place to fish for everyone [or at least me.] The internet lets them be 'themselves' believing they are hidden. People tend to be different in their car than they are on the street as well. Perhaps there are programs that you’d sign up a dozen people each day… minnows… looking for the one or two who will demonstrate their real abilities. The trouble in my view is there are only so many hours in the day. The internet may be a way to find who you are looking for. How would you know them if your only relationship is an autoresponder or IM?

QOTD: Great question. I am task oriented most of the time. I operate from a plan and it is always overflowing. I have not figured out how to relax. I know who I am looking for. My NMB is a work in progress.
  • This is too cool! The locations keep getting better and better. Great content as usual and to see you and Randy so relaxed while talking about the business is pretty cool too.

I think that the camera would see a mixed message. Very focused at times and not so much at others. I am striving for consistency. I am definitely getting better and the camera would see that as well.
  • Great video to watch. Can't wait for the rest.

I think we should treat social media as if we were meeting people in person. A lot of people think they can get away with spamming and pitching their business because of the detatchment and the semi-anonymity of the social media sites.
We need to treat it as if we were meeting these new "friends" in person - in the flesh; and treat them with common courtesy and consideration, and try to build a relationship. If more people did that, I think the spamming and crap would be a lot less prevalent.

QOTD: To be perfectly honest, if a hiddden camera followed me around this past week, the results would be: "What Network Marketing Bussiness?" (he said, grimacing embarassingly!)
  • danimalaways
Amsterdam, my favorite town in Europe, even internet spammers seem OK on the tunnel's background and - if we have one less after this talk - even better, still waiting for the differences between new and old school clarity... thanks for this one,
  • Eric, i Gots to tell you i LOVE this video! I used to be one of those guys until I found a social media coach who taught me what i was doing WRONG and how to do it right. I want to take it one step further to say that you should not have ANYTHING on your page about your business. It should be all about THEM, build the relationship, qualify, see if there is a need, and then and ONLY then should you even think about bringing up your business!

    Good job!
  • Freakin' beautiful city; looks like Venice. Nice place to "work" from!
Such a weird balance between enthusiastic "Tell everyone you know!" and "Don't be a spamming jerk".

People online are learning that they can "hide" behind their computers and project a false image of "Mr. Super Success", and they can "attract" someone by being phony. Eventually they get found out.

Randy saying he just sponsored someone from online means nothing; if I happened upon someone named "The Millionaire Messiah", along with his public persona, I imagine I'd be impressed too. The difference with Randy is that he IS that guy!

I'm looking forward to hearing what thy say on this topic.
  • Now that's lifestyle!
    :)
  • Aloha to both of you Eric and Randy. First thing all NMPRO`s should do in the morning is watching your show(s). Great stuff and I`m thankful of all the energy coming from you guys. Have a nice day...
Best regards....Danny van Nispen, your biggest fan.
  • Hey Eric and Randy,

Wow first off what a great video, two Network Marketing Pros and friends having a great conversation whilst taking a boat ride on the canals of Amsterdam, great stuff guys... magical!

Randy I could not agree more there are so many Multi Level MORONS who truly don't get it and go online to puke all over everyone with their spamming n scamming ways, it's ridiculous and downright embarrasing as their moronic behavior truly reflects on us all in this industry!

I have seen so many of these MLM Morons on Facebook and Twitter who just pithc pitch pitch, come on guys get a %$#@!&* Clue, would ya do that at a party in person?? If ya did you would have no one to talk to and most likely be thrown out on your face never to be invited back nor to any party for that matter!

What about connecting, engagaing, and adding value and be more interested than trying to be interesting and use social media to be 'Social' not a Social Misfit/Moron?!

Use Coomon Sense (unfortunately the least common of the senses) people, treat others not how you would like to be treated but how THEY would like to be treated and grow the hell up, get some skills and go PRO...Listen to what two masters have to say here, Randy will share some great insights here to help us all along the way and to get to the next level by going Pro!

So i see you will be covering the PROBLEM and I assume you will be talking about a SOLUTION too yes?!

Guys here is a ? I would like to see you guys address in next episodes as I know many people watching will be asking this in their heads.....

If one wants to be a true Pro what is acceptable online in terms of promoting your product opportunity, when, where and how do you guys feel it is 'kosher' to share with folks online and if ever through a Tweet, Status update, etc? I have never sent anyone to a replicated website, sales page etc directly, however i have on occassion planted a seed, a clever lil bit about the product opportunity/product, enough to where people ask me for more info (in fact my FB status update right now i did just that... first time in a long time and it seems to be working) but never an outright pitch, nor repeatred over and over and when ya look at my page you do not see pitch after pitch like so many of these MLM Morons we see everyday and abhor!

Also Randy you mentioned the last 2 partners u enrolled into your biz came from Social Media and you never pitched them, so maybe for the benefit of all and to truly Educate here, perhaps you can walk us all through from start to finish (in summary) you took them from new contact to partner in biz? When, how and where did ya share the oppty with them, and did they ask you about it and find it on their own, or did you present it to them??

K guys great vid, looking forward to more, the scenery beyond the content is good enough to watch regardless! ;)

    Keep up great work guys!

    Happy Travels,

    Jared
