NMPRO #105 – Randy Gage on Multi-Level Morons Complete & Uncut

July 24th, 2009 Email This

Here is the complete and uncut version of the recent interview with Randy Gage.  Hope you enjoyed it!  Question of the Day (QOTD):  We need to come up with a unified phrase that we can ALL use as a response when people try to spam their opportunity or act obnoxious about their product or company online.  What should it be?  A special prize to whoever comes up with the winning answer!

Go Pro Recruiting Mastery

  • I think every newbie in this profession should see this video. There is a lot of great marketing information here.
PS. I know I am late but when people spam us we simply say that we are un-recruit-able.
  • Alf Andersen
My favorite comic book is Ernie.
  • Ilspiration.blogspot.com
I posted it on your facebook but I will post it here again, the answer to the QOTD:
*If you spam without having a clue, beware your time is due!* Thx for the interview!

They're absolutely right. As im icurrently living in a non-english speaking country, i tried PPC as a way to increase the amount of people I could talk to, it just cant duplicate. It's easy enough to setup, but then you have the issue of your candidates thinking, well i have to spend all this time on the phone talking to strangers. That's not always a simple thing.

The only benefit it gave me, was it allowed me the practice the skill of talking to people, which I can now use in real life more effectively.

So Im moving to a country now with a much higher percentage of people who speak English, and making sure Im meeting new people all the time, developing relationships, doing that enough that until I find those people at 12 o'clock.

    Thanks guys.

why do I only have 50 comments? I am trying to comment on everything. I heard the answers to points raised on yesterday's comments.
  • Jonathon
Anything from the Farside Gallery. I know it's not comic style but whoa it's hilarious!
  • Reboot It
Great points... and glad to know it's a reiteration of what I've been learning. Relationships first... until you know someone well enough to know if you even want to be in biz with them.
  • davecottrell
    Silver Surfer!
  • drphilsebastian
I must be turning pro...before I listened to Randy I had already come to the conclusions that he did...

I don't know if you will get this to read it...I am so glad that you are providing this service to all of us...

I am very grateful...hope to meet you in person...doing what Harvey McKay said to do and that is doing something for you...I am passing the links out as fast as I view the videos...started with Les Brown.

you are a very positive person and it is infectious even through your videos.

    Thank you
    DrPhil Sebastian
  • From what I've seen and experienced with a certain lead generating company, there is a major lack of integrity and quality leadership. Thank you both for being great mentors!
  • Ngoc Tran
Great conversation, Eric. I love it :)
  • QOTD - I have a great mate called Paul Brooks who was the brightest and strongest man in our group - we nicknamed him "Conan the Librarian" :-0
  • I followed Randy on Twitter having seen him in coversation with Eric - I didn;t even know he was in MLM until I was browsing this back catalogue so he practises what he preaches. Have you notice how Eric gets around the world and has fun. Looks like a great lifestyle - but I remember the "sometimes it's work" video reality check too ;-)
  • kellylanley
I could watch you guys all day!!! Thanks for the great tips - definitely makes you think and re-think!
  • MarineRecon
Totally on spot Eric. Thanks to both of you for what you're doing.
  • wouter
Great interview, I share your thought completely about this social media subject Randy, thanks!
I have a question though. Let's say you rebuild a relationship on facebook with someone you haven't seen for ten years. You get to know where he lives, about his family, his work.etc.. and you find out about his 'hot button'. How do you present the opportunity? Do you send it in a message on facebook? Or do you ask his phone number? Or do you try to get his phone number through some common contact? What's the best way to do??
  • Guest
Fantastic presentation. I agree totally, social networks present a fantastic opportunity to create fantastic relationships. It's fantastic relationships that lead to network marketing success.
  • Top notch video. Thank's to both Eric and Randy for bringing it to us...

QOTD: Batman - because he doesn't have any special powers, he just 'works his face off'. He does what he must to get what he want (primarily a particular skill set).
  • Great video! Thanks!
  • orionl
    "...and here comes the pitch...FOUL!"

QOTD: Superman, I read a lot of comics but always looked forward to Superman.

Thanks for the video Eric and Randy. When I first started out in the internet world, I did so because I detested the way so many people did network marketing. I started out as a multi-level moron, but that didn't feel right either. I've learned a lot since my beginnings and now focus a lot more on the social aspects and let business happen organically.

I don't want to see the internet world ruined either. Thanks for getting the message out.

    regards, Orion Lukasik
  • Arne_Bortveit
Why not bring both Randy AND Mike in the same boat, that would be an even more interesting video :)
Great stuff, keep it coming Eric
  • michaelvien
    thanks guys
awesome video, thank you for reminding the message - the business is all about helping people that want to be helped!
the tools on the net just magnify your intentions

ps: any harry potter fans here... doesn't Gage look a bit like LORD VODERMONT?
  • mattmartel
"Ditch the pitch";"Your pitch is the ditch";"Pitch me online, Ditch you on time"; or
  • cwhelan
My suggestion for a phrase would be two simple words . . . " Back Off" ! Simple , Easy to understand, direct and to the point.

QOTD : Used to read comics as a kid, but can't remember the names. I think maybe Casper ( the friendly ghost ) and the Archies ! Hahahaha I havn't thought about them in years. Good memories.

This was a very enjoyable and relaxed video to watch. Thanks for sharing - clearly straight from the heart, No hype and great information.
You both are awesome in my book.

    Hugs
    Chris
  • Kate
Hi Guys, I just love listening to Randy Gage. My question is after looking at the uncut video yesterday, how did Randy eventually manage to get the flag pole out of his head. Neat Trick !!

    Kate
  • martijnvanderhorst
Great conversation and getting a tour on the water of Amsterdam. Thanks for the input Randy.
  • Spam "talk to the hand"
  • Favorit comic book hero must be Ernie.
  • I see a contradition here..

    1. First he talks about spammers etc, which I agree on, and how some using internet in mashup way. How people pitching, telling about their biz instead of what he says, "getting to know people, relationship.."

    2. Then when talked about family, old school, he says, "Well, if you ain't going to tell your family, your friends, about your network marketing business, then get out of the biz.."

Big contradition there because thats...spamming too. No one really wants to hear someone chatting about their biz to their bro, or sister etc. They'll ask if they want to know.

Then I read comments here, "I'll never talk to family and friends about the biz. It's nut but...if one has a great special offer.."

Contradition and that's what messed up NM and IM. We speak one message and dilute it with another. No wonder people outside of Network Marketing getting confused and beginners too.

    Simple..

Stop pitching to online and offline including friggin families. Period. It's not professional. If people ask you, then ok but most don't. So have value, give value, and value attracts those who ARE interested and will ask.

Einstien says it best, "be a man of value not a man of success."

    Cheers.
  • samanaali
    Hi Adam,

I wanted to respectfully disagree with you on one of the aforementioned points. There is a difference between what some of the so-called "Gurus" do online and talking to your family about it.

I have recruited several of my family members and have done so without stepping over their boundaries. I don't go to them and tell them I have the best thing since sliced bread, instead, i listen to them and respond to their needs. Many times, the response is my MLM business.

As for people asking you, very rarely will someone ask you about your part time business forthright,so you do have to promote it yourself.

Just wanted to share this with you.

    Regards,

    Ali Samana
  • Adam you misquote me! I said I won't advise people not to talk to family and friends because that is nuts...but I think they do it naturally if they have something good to offer.

If we all go 'undercover' how do you suggest we market our business? We did actually join to enrol people...LOL
  • hEHEHE good to be back in Manila with high speed internet again :)

I love this interview and can onley say that I agree 100% with Mr. Gage.

QOD: Wondergirl from the new teen titans - definately!!!
  • I came across this article I thought we could review and discuss. Wealth or family? Twin lifestyles test reader values - http://sn.im/ny9y2

    I voted for Jim.

    Which will vote for?

    Paul
  • Good article- thanks. Interesting question. I guess each of them has to decide which is best for them, and truthfully, I would probably go with the non-lawyer. I really don't like what being a lawyer does to a person. I also value freedom, and whereas I think coming home everyday at 7 is still slavery, it seemed a LESSER slavery!
  • Bones, did you vote? The vote favored Emmet's lifestyle. What's interesting the author wrote:

    >> The ultimate point of Rosenfeld's essay may not lie in the salary comparisons that inevitably emerge between the brothers, but rather in the broader issue of lifestyle satisfaction and relative goals. In the final accounting, it encourages readers to weigh their own values and ask how much, exactly, a Brooklyn brownstone and a corner office -- or homey evenings and a house in the 'burbs -- are truly worth." <<

This wasn't a question of who's life style you like best or fit your personality. It was a question of how you see the world and yourself.

In relative terms they both liked their careers and were happy with their choices. That makes them equal.

    Car choices:

    >>>Where Emmet's car is used, Jim's is new. <<

One point for Jim. Jim, drives the cars of his choice.

    Overall finances:

    >>Where Emmet is middle class, Jim is decidedly wealthy.<<<

Jim, wins again. Cash is KING!

    Lifestyle choices:

Emmet gets home at 7 pm

Jim works late and spends less time with family.

Jim, wins again. It's Jim's choice to work late and spend less time. He could always sell his partnership and make other life choices. Emmet's life is dictated by his financial situation.

    Health issues:

Emmet is limited to what his finances dictate with insurances. There are probably caps.

Jim, probably can afford the best health care in the world any where in the world.

The ideal situation would be to have Emmet's life with Jim's money! Jim can do that!

I haven't had an 8 to 5 since 1994 and I just turned 62. I've been a stay at home dad for my 16 year old
daughter. If I had it to do over.... I would have gone for the money doing what I loved!!!!

I would not have gone the NWM or MLM route! It appears this lifestyle works, it hasn't for most people nor for me long term (check company stats on incomes). Easier now, with technology in terms of sharing. Still time consuming, very seductive.

We are dependent on companies and others with little choice as to what can happen. It's an excellent choice as long as you keep it in perspective and make other financial decisions. For me it was real estate that allow me not to work. Now, if I had only invested in real estate better! <g>

Join rock solid companies, keep your job. A $10,000 monthly income from NWM, coupled with a job, investments in stocks, bonds & real estate (excellent values now) over time will set you free.

I heard another NWM crashes recently. (sad)

    I hope this helps!

    Paul

Hello Mr.Worre, I am the wife of a person who has an interest in network marketing. he is currently working on developing his own network business. He is actually a big fan of your website and information. Thank you for your website and information as it helps him learn several ways to launch his business. However, he lost his job last year and is focused on building his network business. The problem is we are struggling with bills, mortgage and has has no interest in obtaining a full time or pt job.Any advise for him to get his business moving quicker? Please e-mail at volitonantonia@yahoo.com.
  • QOTD: Personally, I like Randy's response...
Thank you so much for the pitch. I am now unfollowing you.

Perhaps an addition of something like
    "I don't promote spammers...
they're giving the industry a black eye"
could be worked into it somewhere.

Regardless of the "official phrase" decided upon,
we all need to do our part to educate well meaning
people who are being trained incorrectly by their uplines/gurus.

    Thanks for the discussion, Eric.
  • Wow I stumbled into a hot bed here! So much of what Randy and Eric say is exactly right. Personally I don't think our profession duplicates very well off or online! If it did there wouldn't be such a high attrition rate.

I love the offline methods when done correctly. (Most have no idea how to do it correctly with 3rd party tools.. Randy and Eric teach an offline system which has elegance.)

I also love online in fact I enjoy it so much it has completely changed everything for me. I make money online easily and whoever thinks that building a business with internet does not require you to build relationships is missing the point.

I get to reach way more people online than I ever have done offline, I get to build global connections and I can build other streams of income. It's not for everyone but let's face it .. neither is traditional MLM. The majority don't survive the first 3 No's.

I'm all for networkers using their skills and passions to find the way that suits them. Who care's if they meet people on or offline... I use automated systems to leverage my time so that people can look at what I have to offer and review it when I'm not on duty!! I like it that way and find that I get to spend my days talking with a much higher quality prospect than in the past.

I would never advise people not to talk to their friends and family. It's nuts! However if someone feels they have something great to offer I think they do it naturally and I just like to know that I have other skills and my whole business doesn't depend on me meeting suitable people in my home town every week. It becomes exhausting especially if its not your first MLM business.

I think the 'old' and 'new' schoolers seriously underestimate each others value and it would be nice if everyone would just get on with their own thing. Take the best and leave the rest as it were.

Attraction marketing is not about spamming and the dudes that do it probably do just the same type of pukey thing offline. I do think that manually tweeting and messaging people all day can take a huge amount of time and is no more duplicatable than PPC. For that reason I like to have a simple system in place that catches my prospects and shows them what to review. The I spend my time talking qualified prospects who actually want to hear from me about what I have going on.

Big tip: Don't spam. Smile and just be yourself!

  • I agree, great post Rachel
  • Well done Rachel. Good common sense post.
  • TomSchulte
    Love it Rachel! great post.
  • EXCELLENT POST!!!!!

One of the very that truly understands the power of New School & Old School fit together!

Find me on facebook and share what you do. I'm always excited to meet and learn from like minded people.

  • Paul Zane Pilzer uses the term "Intellectual Distribution" which describes the MLM or Network Marketing Business Model for me. Intellectual being the key word. How Intellectual does this sound? Be First. Make $5000 a Minute with No Sponsoring or Selling. We do all the work for you. You just cash the checks. I think you just call what the spammers are doing "Ignorant Marketing".
  • TomSchulte
    Well said my man ;)
  • That's not intellectual at all, That's just horrible copy writing skills. It's almost as intellectual as the 3 way calls when one is not properly trained. or hotel meeting or home meetings when conducted by people that are untrained.

That's all that is untrained individuals..
  • Guest
I have the term, or phrase to refer to all unscrupulous marketers in mlm. " SHARK MARKETERS' and even you can reply to them and label their tactics as " Shark Marketing" I would say to violator: " This sounds like "Shark Marketing" , are you a "Shark Marketer"? This will be a slap in the face of any marketer you tell it to, and in the spirit of Randy Gs' teaching, this is VERY duplicatable! Dave P.
  • EXCELLENT>> will put THIS on my twitter..lol because i am so tired of the spammers pitching their stuff...i want news or personal stuff.. then we will see what happens...i really have no interest in recruiting there and i am not interested in joining any other biz...
  • stellawebber
QOTD~We can tell those morons: I am Happy you´re so happy with yourself and your business! Then you are sure there is one person happy with that attitude! But it is NOT ME! That´s for sure. NOBODY likes this.
  • That was a great video guys !! The "Social Media Pukefest" has gotten out of control. When I started out about a year ago, I actually spent some time watching what people were doing...I made some big boo-boos and thankfully one of the Social Media experts took the time to slap me on the hand, tell me what I was doing wrong, and how to fix it. We have a great relationship to this very day.

We can only fix this problem by educating the people that are willing to learn...the rest just have to get unfollowed. I find it very amusing that the man that talks about the "Social Media Party" - Perry Belcher - just released his Social Media Money Program - I got poked, pitched and puked on for DAYS to get this course..... its a great course, I already own it... even the really savvy "gurus" were doing the 3 P's...hmmmm...what was that all about..???

It's all about creating relationship and providing value ....

    "Pros Don't Poke, Pitch or Puke...Here's Why http://tinyurl.com/kqlp63 "

LOL...I liked this video so much that I added it to my blog... and that is where that link goes to... fair warning

Thanks for all that you do for this industry guys !!

    Dunning-Kruger effect

The Dunning-Kruger effect is an example of cognitive bias in which "...people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it"

[1]. They therefore suffer an illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average. This leads to a perverse result where people with less competence will rate their ability more highly than people with relatively more competence. <---PAY ATTENTION if you think you know more than Randy and Eric, you fall in here...

It also explains why competence may weaken the projection of confidence because competent individuals falsely assume others are of equivalent understanding "Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."

  • I like your information - and the thought about "dropping pay per click" it is not something you can duplicate and it takes way to much time - even though it can bring in good return.

Stop spamming folks - it stinks in person and online -

    Good Video !!

My favorite comic book hero - hum - don't think I have one.
  • TomSchulte
For all the "he does it too" haters posting here, Eric and Randy are referring to the people REALLY dont get it. They are the internet equivalent of the old '3 foot rule'. Who are obnoxious, belligerent and rude to total strangers. They chase around other network marketers WHO ALREADY HAVE A BUSINESS and try to cross recruit them with 'my daddy can beat up your daddy' pitches about their comp plans and products, they never engage anyone long enough to learn any of their likes, hobbies, business or social life...as soon as they friend/follow a person, they write on their facebook wall or auto DM or send an @reply on twitter. IT'S ABSURD. It does NOT work. And any business person worth their salt who is HONEST will admit that it does not work.

I have taught online marketing schools. I was a blackhat PROFESSIONAL marketer for years. I still do over six figures in internet product sales, using targeted marketing methods on various sites I will NOT disclose. So dont bother asking. BUT, when I got into network marketing I thought those methods would transition. Sure, I could sponsor a SHITLOAD of people...but google marketing, using autonomous software, keyword research, building squeeze pages, copywriting, email marketing and autoresponders, etc...ARE FAR TOO COMPLEX FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO LEARN.

I had a very popular lecture format class with over 60 professionals, some with a technical background who simply could not grasp these difficult concepts. Sure, with PPC marketing and such you could build a business and attract partners, and train a few. maybe you will find 10-20 serious people a year and build a team of a few hundred. What Eric and Randy are talking about is momentum, massive duplication. These are 2 guys who have teams in excess of 60,000 reps and GROWING. 90% of which is done offline. I can assure you the 'diamond' level mlm superstars who built a business on the web can be counted on ONE hand.

The types being referred to in these interviews are the idiots out there (you know who you are) who jump on twitter with names like "financial freedom team, xyz, etc" and "coach" and "guru" build no relationships and carry out these internet 3 foot rule redundancies that are doing nothing more than embarrassing them, their company and profession. They absolutely stink of desperation and display a total lack of professionalism.

Not every lawyer is a douche bag. Not every used car salesman is a swindler. But look how few it really took to drape a stigma over their entire industry. I fear we have come so far, and got so close...only to see people with a lottery mentality who are uninformed about the type of business they are entering and desperately seeking success that they are going to burn it to the ground.

I got a twitter pitch the other day from a 'lady' (picture of a half naked woman) on twitter. I click the link and I'm taken to video capture page with some asshole with the speaking aptitude of Carl from sling blade telling me to opt in and learn how to generate leads. Seriously, guy. WTF would you teach me if I let you sponsor me?? To make 100 FAKE twitter accounts and spam links everywhere and hope I get opt ins? Is that your marketing plan?

Another point I want to MAKE CRYSTAL clear. To the mlm morons posting claims about income!! THIS NEEDS TO STOP. I can assure you your company does not allow you to post links describing "amazing juice and I am making $50,000 a month" ERIC YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THIS PLEASE!!

Do you guys know you that is seriously ILLEGAL?! You absolutely cannot make claims about profits and income to entice prospects. You don't want a indictment from the state attorney's office handed down when you are formally charged with fraud! Seriously! You can go to prison for that in the United States. At the best case scenario...you're company can be sued out of existence for fraud. Practices like this are going to destroy our profession. Even more so I can assure you your company will immediately terminate your business center upon learning of these marketing practices. The industry must stand for this no longer. We must report these individuals to the appropriate sources at their company and shut them down. It #1 only attracts losers looking for a free ride, and #2 is completely ineffective. Lastly People are just plain smarter than that!!! Here's what I tweet:

"Spamming your opportunity links to everyone who friends you on social media sites IS NOT attraction marketing! knock it off!" @RealTomSchulte - l8tr
  • You guys call yourself leaders, yet you spew false information constantly even though you make great money. That's sad!

I'll quote you >>>Sure, I could sponsor a SHITLOAD of people...but google marketing, using autonomous software, keyword research, building squeeze pages, copywriting, email marketing and autoresponders, etc...ARE FAR TOO COMPLEX FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO LEARN.<<<

Why does the "average person have to learn all these skills? Why can't successful leaders like yourself with the skills you have, with your knowledge, income and contacts create programs that could benefit the team as a whole? Is that to much to ask?

What's wrong with creating co-op ads that run on Google that use a "rotational system" to distribute the online leads to the participants of the co-op? Isn't that possible? You've never though of this?

Compensations plans have been tweaked to provide a faster income for the new recruit. We have forced matrix plans, binary plans and even single legged plans. What we don't have is leadership that is utilizing online marketing to benefit the masses. That's the broken link.

Why is that? You said you could create a whole "shitload" of people. OK do it for your group and give the new people away. Why not????

You go on to say >>>>Another point I want to MAKE CRYSTAL clear.

Seriously!<<<<

Says who??? That's just another UPLINE mis-statement.

I'm in a company and we do it monthly! Yes, the company touts the incomes of our earners from top to bottom!!!
    (not everyone, selected individuals.)

We do it online via a digtal online magazine, we do it in our 50+ page color monthly magazine. That goes to everyone that orders product monthly that are customers or business builders. It's doen via our latest DVD presentation from a customer earning $52 per month to a top producer that has earned over $13 million dollars!!! What's the problem with that???????????????????????????????????????

It certainly can't be illegal. We are over 20 years old and growing globally. I think AG's know about us.

The company DOES NOT discourage anyone from talking about their incomes or showing checks!!!! They only require us to also show the income statistics for company earning.

So we need to stop spreading this lie about it being and I'll quote you " Do you guys know you that is seriously ILLEGAL?! "

It's not illegal. It's how one reputable company does business.

Yes, Eric, let's talk about the money! I'm ready

    Paul

  • TomSchulte
Paul, I guess you really just dont get it. I have tried to teach very competent people. I have sponsored a good amount of people. The whole point being: Network marketing was never intended to be an online event. It is about groups of people getting together and doing very simple actions (presentation) and duplicating. Sure you can advertise your meetings on the web. I teach a few people to do the same. In fact, my company does live streaming presentations from the corporate building and we use technology to link together meetings and communicate and so forth...

It's not about leads man. Anyone with a squeeze page or online mlm system can capture email addresses. I can assure you those 'leads' are doing nothing more than shopping 80 other pages and let's be real, they are for the most part far LESS qualified than someone who shows up to a meeting. let's be real. This type of marketing is attracting the wrong people as distributors in the first place. Too many people shop the internet looking to buy a lottery ticket.

I have seen it with my own eyes. I have seen the difference in the person who hears about a booming company via a local web ad, or is invited the right way to a meeting by a professional. They show up, well dressed, sharp, eager to hear and learn. Looking to learn about network marketing, economic changes the company and the solution you are presenting.

I ALSO had reps who were trying to duplicate with various mlm online systems. again, I will say people opt in, rarely even hold their attention long enough to finish the first video or paragraph, close the page. Because...they had opted in to 5 other biz op sites that night. They clicked on a catchy headline and opted in to see what's behind door #3. nothing more than curiosity. So, when you call that 'lead' that usually dont even know who you are, or why you are calling. If they even remember opting in. and that is about 80% of the people you will prospect using online methods. If you don't believe me or the psychology behind this I suggest you attend some marketing sherpa seminars on information marketing via the web. This has all been researched and explained in detail in contexts far beyond what I am willing to invest in a response.

In fact I will share that in my years of list building I can tell you people have become so skeptical of internet businesses, they often use false email addresses just to see what's in the website. Any list building pro can tell you about surfing through your constant contact account and deleting all the "bartsimpson@eatmyshorts.com emails that people type in. great lead.

So, sure you can duplicate. Yes, you can make sales and maybe even make a profit on your marketing capital outlay...but you will never see momentum in your team if all you are teaching is internet systems. Besides...With brand images and corporate trust at an all time low...People are really going to go back to basics and use organic sales channels like never before and I think we are going to see a wave of momentum for a lot of companies still to come. The internet has become so cluttered with 'opportunities' and people are aware of it. you are just a needle in the haystack. network marketing is and always will be an in person business. (and yes Paul, I know how to make facebook groups and use web meet rooms)

Webinars are great. But, you know...I got invited to join 12 groups this week on facebook on 'online mlm lead generation'. I mean come on. These people need to buy a clue. Anyway the whole point of this Rant is the trouble with online systems is not everyone can brand themselves as a leader, the systems and technology are complex and you lose the personal touch.

And regardless of my expertise and income. Don't you think the companies have thought of this?! When I finally joined my friend I looked through all the marketing channels, I said:" We are a technology based company. So why and the hell dont they use technology?" Why is it they can do streaming presentations, but are unwilling to give reps a duplicated squeeze page so we can capture leads?" How do we have all these video presentations online, hell we have complete training systems for our reps to become certified outside of our company, to be leaders in our industry...but no squeeze page?? hmmm.

I was so frustrated. Then I started looking at some serious mlm's. you will notice a pattern. NONE of them do it. It isn't supposed to be done like that. So I asked some of our execs who were kind enough to listen to my expertise, then shared theirs: It is too impersonal, it doesn't replicate, it's not network marketing and these methods if not carefully governed can harm the brand. After some trial and error, I have to agree. Network marketing is not about making profits on the people you sponsor. That is AFFILIATE marketing. (sell a $97 product, get half) Randy or Eric can explain, what was explained to me about network marketing compensation plans when I first discovered this anomaly: Legit compensation plans are designed to reward marketing executives, for organic growth of a sales channel that occurs over a long period of time, FOR a long period of time. The 'warning signs' to look for in an mlm are companies that share a big chunk of the front money or 'flash money' for making sales. The profits should never come up front. We are NOT looking to sponsor a ton of people and make $100 bucks a piece, and throw em against the wall...etc. The objective is to sponsor and train a core group and allow for organic growth. Network marketing and affiliate marketing are as different as oil and water, yet...we have managed to mix the two formula's. And, all these internet based fly by night mlm's have designed compensation plans to reward people who jump in, make a ton of sales, burn it up and take their list to the next "pre-launch". Selling shit to your list is affiliate marketing!

Anyway...we were talking about spammers. Now, let's talk money:

Of course any legit mlm allows or encourages the top income earners to disclose their income. so long as every attendee has an income disclosure statement from your company in their hands (results not typical, professional driver on closed course, please dont try this at home) Of course, we are encouraged to professionally show people what is possible, so long as we dont suggest it is likely they will have the same result.

What I am referring to is people prospecting online using statements like: "Join XYZ juice magic and make $10,000 a month using our system!" <----Sorry friend but that is seriously illegal and a big black eye to our profession. I apologize, I misstated in my prior post. But, you get the point. I need a blog. ttyl -TS
  • Thanks Tom for your input.

I'm a simple man with a simple plan of action. I've seen & know people recruiting 5, 10, 20, 100+ people in a week. Weekly.

I only need to recruit one per week consistently and then duplicate. That's very doable. Many are generating 10, 20 or more leads daily. Yes, there is a lot garbage. But just maybe people have learned they really don't have to enter their correct info. I seldom do.

Why do I do it? I like to see how and what people are marketing. I like knowing what people do.

I signed up for one of Randy's information package. It came from a DD in Agel named Wes. Eric and Randy were on the video, quite lengthy. I skipped around. Lots of chatter about income not a problem for me.

I love "marketing" the art of getting people to take action.

Nothing works forever and that's why you must continue to change the marketing.

    I just need that one per week doubled each week. In 13 weeks (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2,048, 5096.)

Tom, that's 13 weeks! I know it's doable. I'm not sure why those like you that have the skill aren't doing it???? What am I missing???

If you're in Agel, I say give up the sponsor ship and pass it on to others. The key is to get people a CHECK! It appears nothing has changed over the last 15 years, in that a $300 monthly income would solidly hold a new person. I could be wrong.

So, it takes a little longer than 13 weeks. Say it's 26 or even 52. Who's going to complain about 5,000+ people. I say less focus on the company and more on the marketing!

You spoke about affiliate programs. Norberts, Mike & Ann's are affiliate first. Low cost no monthly fees, it's all about sorting who'll step forward. Build a relationship and see what develops. Back end those open to your primary program. At least you get paid for your marketing efforts "funded proposal."

    Thanks

    Paul

I will my man. I love the show and Randy is a friend of mine. But, really I'm just fed up with the bullshit! so I figured I would jump in the fire 1 time...thx Matt!
  • Randy, this is for you babe!

You comment to me that I did not listen to your interview closely enough. Well... I'm a digger! I dig until I find what I'm looking for...

Here you are in a video, created specifically for the Internet & a website, thus qualifying it in my mind as New School building. You know, Mike D., Ann Sieg, Norbert etc.

The link is: Randy Gage is Back with a Great MLM Home Based Business Opportunity from Agel - http://sn.im/nwfi6 [www_iloverandygage_com]

I'm not doing this to embarrass you or to expose you as some kind of fraud, nothing like that all. My objective
is to get people to realize they too can create incomes streams that will change their life, IF.... and it should be a bigger IF.... they learn and implement new online skills. What we call New School.

In the video you welcome & thank people for visiting the website. You pitch your company Agel, you ask the visitor to please fill out the information below. You tell the visitor you are LOOKING for leaders and someone from YOUR team will contact then and send more information about Agel.

I'm so New School, I downloaded the video, you just never know when I might need it! <g>

    Wishing you continued success!!!

Great and very valid points. I have been on social and internet marketing for many many years. This past Spring - my AH-HA moment came. I became posting this Blog all over Ning.com - I added it to my newly created centralized Blog.

I don't use Ning.com to build my business - I have one site I go onto, on occasion but I no longer use social networking as my primary source of relationship or business building.
  • I'm confused by your earlier statement.

  • Unbelievable!!!

I get a facebook message from some MLM Moron that red my posts on this board. He proceeds to tell me that I'm taking this way to personal and Randy and Eric are good guys! (I never said they weren't, I think they're good, sharp and excellent Professional Networker's using New School marketing. The very same skill set Mike, Ann & others are teaching).

He then goes on to pitch me on why I should come to an Agel meeting in San Francisco and possibly join him.

Isn't this the very type of person we've been talking about as a MORON???? I quickly showed him my ugly crude side to get my point across and deleted home as a fb friend! I was VERY CRUDE!!!

Is this an Agel forum??? Or is this for all MLM'ers that are looking to learn and grow to be Professional's?

My point... IMO, we cannot be truly professional until we learn professional marketing skills like Eric, Randy, Mike, Ann, Norbet and many others. If all you know is to contact someone via fb, twitter, email, lead list, friend & family members you are doomed to have a small if non existent business.

We can never expect friends and families to want to leave their comfort zones and actually do something with the business (some will). I know, mine have joined me several times and yet they have never duplicated. I love them dearly for their support. The fact is ... this business is NOT yet ready for everyone. It will be, when we are marketing in a professional manner. When people are "attracted" to us for our ability to draw them in from capture pages, responders, video, ezines, PPC, blogs, forums, radio, TV and venues like this board.

My complaint with Eric, and Randy is.... I get the feeling they have not red Mike's, Ann's or Norbert's messages.
They see the ads and have not taken the time to review their offerings. Yet they want to converse on what they THINK the programs are about. That IMO is not professional. Because I know their offerings and what they teach and what is presented here I can address these matters passionately. As the say, you can't judge a book by it's cover, nor can you by PPC ads. If you don't think "negative" ads are effective where were you in the last 30 months when it came to political ads.

I've done a lot of networking over the years and I've learned a few things over that time span. I've met very strong people, yet, they like so many of us are starting all over a gain. Why is that???

Couldn't they have had the residual success like top Amway, Mary Kay, Herbalife or other top leaders from older established companies. That have been with one and only one company their entire MLM career. So what happened???

It's certainly can't be about the product, compensation plan or leadership... or could it ???

New School Vs. Old School is about YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your company, product, compensation and leadership are NOT important!!! companies fail, ask Eric & Randy.

    It's about YOU!!!!

Branding you as a LEADER... a person of vision, character, integrity. Someone that can HELP others achieve their goals and dreams. When you approach your warm market first... are they going to see you as their leader?

Are they going to say "show me." When you're a success come back. Whats' wrong with that???

Oh, you've got the hot product that's life changing, the compensation plan that's going to set them free! Yet you're in debt, with an old car struggling to make it day to day. Why should they follow you??? Don't you think they've been down that road before???

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I look around I don't know of ANY MLM's that have a major presence in my area, NOT ONE!!!! Sure PPL has some meetings 30 miles away. And their are meetings for other companies in the Sacramento area 90 to 100 miles away. What's up with that????

In the 90's I was in NSA water filtration. I believe Eric was in that company at the time with Jeff Olson, who's now with PPL as an exec for the company. Jeff, was a tremendous speaker. Like many MLMer's he started his own company TPN. A great concept but it failed (I never joined) and they moved to PPL. Jeff, went from building a team to a wage earner, a guy with a job. Before TPN, we had Quorum, World Class Network, PrePaid Legal and many others in the Bay Area and the meetings were large!

I mean weekly meetings were in the hundreds of people. The monthly Super Sat. were in the thousands of people all excited and pumped. Yet today, you can't find a decent sized meeting. (Not that I would go).

One company I'm in, recently had our yearly kick off for this old established company. Our Founder met with
Spanish speaking reps in San Jose 45 miles south of me. Then traveled past my area going north to hold another meeting in English in Sacramento 145 miles north of the last meeting. That was a HUGE clue the Bay Area is virtually dead for MLM. My old nutritional company is filled with many leaders from Asia not the US. You would have thought it started in Asia (not good old Utah.)

Eric & Randy travel the globe to give a meeting and I won't go 90 miles. You couldn't give me a million dollars to do what they do. I'm not knocking it... I'm looking at the realities of our industry. It has changed for many Americans. Even in bad times are they coming?? I don't see it yet.

Compensation plans have changed in an attempt to address the issue of duplication. Simpler company structure with one or two products. Still in order to build we must go global. I see Amway commercials on TV daily, 2 & 3 times!!!! They know they must help the reps. They've moved beyond friends and family and the resp doing the work. They've conceded IBO's need help. (I'm not with AMway)

It's time for us to become professional and learn online marketing skills to build a business. That is the essence of what Mike, Ann, Norbert are doing. It's time for US to build our own list and take control of our lives by becoming a Professional is ALL we do. By learning new skills spam will be decreased becasue they'll have learned better ways to build. Not every one must learn. But the team must have these skills in order to develop daily leads for the team members. Imagine join and receiving daily lead to grow your business. Would that make things easier, where people are waiting for you to all them! Can you see that happening????

I hope this clears the air, as to where I'm coming from.

I do wish you all the very best.

I'll looking forward to Eric saying he's looked at these other leaders programs.
He's got plenty of time with all those flights and waiting time in air ports. <grin>

  • In Response to Paul I don’t want to misquote him so I will use his words.

Paul- “I get a facebook message from some MLM Moron that red my posts on this board. He proceeds to tell me that I'm taking this way to personal and Randy and Eric are good guys! (I never said they weren't, I think they're good, sharp and excellent Professional Networker's using New School marketing. The very same skill set Mike, Ann & others are teaching).”

Brian- I did say he took it way to personal and from his f-bomb laden, name calling response to me I still believe I was correct. While sending the message to him privately might have been ‘moronic” I am definitely not a MLM Moron.. The reason I sent it to him on facebook is because it felt it would waste space on here. Much like both of these posts. (Sorry, Eric )

Paul- “He then goes on to pitch me on why I should come to an Agel meeting in San Francisco and possibly join him.”

Brian - If I was going to “pitch” Paul. Why would I ask him to wait 6 MONTHS to before I “exposed” him for the first time. I did not pitch him. I did not ask him to join me. i did not invite him to look at a link, magazine or product. I did ask if he were interested he could come to see Randy and Eric speak since he does believe they are “ sharp and excellent Professional Networker's” and thought maybe he would receive some value from attending. I also invited Paul because I noticed he lived in Oakland, just a stone’s throw from San Francisco.

Paul- Isn't this the very type of person we've been talking about as a MORON???? I quickly showed him my ugly crude side to get my point across and deleted home as a fb friend! I was VERY CRUDE!!! Is this an Agel forum??? Or is this for all MLM'ers that are looking to learn and grow to be Professional's?

Brian- As for who the MORON is, I simply point to the contents of his reply. It is not appropriate for this forum or for Facebook for that matter... To reply in the manner he did I believe shows his TRUE CHARACTER... Isn’t that also a BIG KEY TO BECOMING a NETWORK MARKETING PROFESSIONAL? If I Could post each of the posts, I still wouldn’t. I deleted him as well. I know Many people from AGEL belong to this community. I have taken great pains to NOT mention my affiliation on here. Can you say the same Paul? I truly don’t know.
Finally, I submit this. My sister told me once: “WHEN A PERSON SHOWS YOU WHO THEY REALLY ARE... BELIEVE THEM!”

Brian- Paul , I wish to apologize for offending you in any way. not for what I said in the original post I sent you. The second post, if you read it, was rude and unprofessional. My passion for becoming a NM Professional is sincere. I wish the best for you and as Eric says. " We have a better way... Let's go out and show the world."

My Final apologies goes to to Eric and Randy personally and to the NM PRO community for this entire mess...

My name is Brian Bodenhamer and I am dedicated to going PRO.

  • Dear Brain, I missed this part in my first referral post.

    >>Brian- Paul , I wish to apologize for offending you in any way. not for what I said in the original post I sent you. The second post, if you read it, was rude and unprofessional.<<

In the heat of battle we at times let out emotions get away from us.

I accept your apology and offer a sincere apology for my latest post. I would have preferred an apology via fb an you kept your comment anonymous. Only I knew it was you. I would never out a person publicly unless I really wanted to hurt their business.

That very same power that can be used so effectively to sabotage a business can be used as effectively to build a business globally.

Wshing you success in San Francisco.

    Paul
  • Brain, I did not mention your name in any post on this forum or facebook. My comment on this forum I think have always been to the point my opinion and mine alone. I have never mentioned any company I'm with or pitched anyone on this forum or off from a DM from twitter, facebook or any other social medium.

Your message to as I stated here was an error on your part. You criticized me for speaking my mind (which I thought I had done respectfully in reference to the Randy Gage interview.

Yes, I used course and very crud language to you to get my point across. it was NOT acceptable on your part to contact me personally or otherwise to criticize me and then invite me to meet with for an Agel event.

I, me, personally considered it SPAM!!!! That is my prerogative! I don't know what you were thinking. Who on earth thinks they can chastise a person and then invite then to a meeting for a presentation?????????? ONLY AN MLM MORON!!!

We have never communicated other than to accept each other as "social friends" on facebook. You made no effort to introduce yourself, ask what I do, what you're about. You were excited that you had identified an MLM in the San Francisco area. You're looking to have as many people as possible at the meeting no matter. what.

Yes, I got your attention. i rocked your boat! I rocked you so... you decided to fire back and threaten me with physical violence. You state I wouldn't dare to espouse that language to your face! Because you would put your "fist in my face." How professional is that???

You don't know me. nor do you know what I am capable of doing. However you do know I'm black, from Oakland a city with a very high murder rate. You don't know who I know and just how exciting your trip could get, to our fair city. I know your name, what you look like, when & where you are going to be on Saturday. You'll probably even have a target (I mean sticker) with your name on it.

Brain, all I can say is stop acting like a MLM MORON and become a Professional. I didn't name you in this forum. You didn't have to out yourself.

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!

Have a safe and pleasant trip to the Bay Area!

    Paul

  • I really enjoyed these videos. That being said, however, I disagree with some things Randy Gage said, I think that the internet can be, and is duplicable. I wrote an entire page long response explaining why that can be found here:

    http://www.mlmglobaltakeover.com/articles/should-i-be-marketing-my-mlm-business-on-the-internet-2810/

I certainly seem to have using the internet duplicating well in my group - I wonder why.

Great job! I loved the interview... I just started blogging and 4 days ago I started a twitter account and I really wasn't sure what I should be tweeting about so I only tweet about motivational things I'm doing or sports or things like that. The very 1st 3 days I had many people follow me and Im not sure why, Im not that interesting. The very 1st thing they sent to me was an affiliate link of what they are doing...It made me feel like I was walking at the beach and a flock of seagulls fly over you and POO on ya.. So whenever I get on the internet now I always put my ballcap on and never look up for fear of getting dumped on.... Kinda like a drive by shooting.. my Dad would always say this when annoying people would bother him--( I Fart In Your General Direction) . Gross but it sent them packing and fast....

Excellent interview. I really appreciate the experience and wisdom you are adding to us through these interviews and video clips. You are raising the bar. Along with others we are deciding to go pro and as we spread the word we will make a difference. We could say something like this to the pitch spammers- Haven't you heard shotgun pitching doesn't work? You must be a shotgun marketer. Something like that.

Great interview!! I never new Randy Gage until I met Eric and the Net Work Marketing Pro group, feel sooo fortunate. I love his tell it like it is philosophy. He pulls no punches. Very straight shooter, I can tell he has integrity.

    "Are you a http://www.MultiLevelMoron.com "?

"Thanks for the spam; maybe you should see http://www.MultiLevelMoron.com "

I'm enjoying making these up, but I warn that we could get overzealous about it and then ruin new people's enthusiasm. The LAST thing we need is for us to be ANOTHER source of rejection and fault-finding, y'know?

The whole "You're not doing it right" thing could also be de-motivating.

My answer to the Multi Level Moron would be: "Hé Dombo, it's a long way to go, before you're a Networkmarketing Pro!"
  • I agree on the SPAM-part, and SEO don't duplicate ...

PPC tough, can be duplicated, it don't take that much time to setup. You do need to check the campaigns for the first 2 - 3 weeks, then they just run and show up for people looking for an opportunity.

Using an "outside program", like renegade university (Ann Siege), Magnetic Sponsoring (Mike Dillard) is not for the teams best, they do not support YOU, or the team, or your business.

IF Your team are building up their own internet prospecting system then YOU can build up Yourself as a leader with knowledge, that Your team are serious etc.

Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, MySpace, your personal blog etc is a new way of communication. A lot of people are already there and I can actually understand that a new person in the business do their "PBR" ("grand opening") also in that environment, saying: "WhoHO! I just started up my new business, it may also be something for You?"
