NMPRO #109 – Do MORE Than You Get Paid For

July 30th, 2009 Email This

SO many people want results first, and then they’ll work hard.  Sorry, it doesn’t work that way.  Not in life and not in Network Marketing.  Here are some thoughts from Hyde Park in Sydney Australia (in the rain).  Question of the Day (QOTD):  Do you think Network Marketing is ready to go mainstream?  P.S. Good friend to NMPRO Mr. Tony Scarcia was the guest cameraman today.  Thanks Tony!

Great advice - keep doing more than we get paid for and the rewards will come but make sure you're satisfied with the effort you're putting forth.
  • aliceflanders
I don't think they are ready yet. More education is needed first.
  • Erik
    You are right :)
  • AWESOME as usual! I am there right now...learning what to do...doing it and then doing more and the returns are slow in coming...but they are coming. And I realize that I am building my own business and it takes time and sweat. BUT...I don't have to rent an office, or hire employees, or keep business hours that are rigid, or pay all the costs of running a 'store front' business.
I can deal with that...and I have to realize that my opportunity is not for everyone....but my product is!!!
Hee-hee-hee! Really...I sell something that every man, woman and child on the planet needs today. It is unrivaled and fantastic!
  • moisesbenaim
i always do more that i get paid, and is something that makes me happy, and in the future i will see the money for all what i did.
I like this video, and the funny is the guy behind picking the coint's from the fountain......
You are the best Eric... thanks for give us so much power and knoledges.....
  • Name
I'm getting sick of everyone here kissing your a$$.

Look, this is a good platitude "Do more than you're paid for", well sounds good, and when you own your own business, you ALWAYS do more, since you get paid last. Big deal.

Thing is, in MLM, if you do a whole bunch of "extra stuff", then you're not duplicable, are you? And people who say "I did what they told me and it didn't work" have a VERY legitimate beef- THAT'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO WORK.

Duplication means doing something specifically like someone else to get the same result, right?

Well, I hear that doing MORE than that RUINS duplication, so what now oh wise one?
  • I wrote this by the way...
  • Amazing clip Eric.. You are so right!! God bless you my friend!!
  • Eric, absolutly right, again. Thank you very much. Your lessons are very important in my process.
Is the same what Jim Rohn Said: "Give the seed, not the need".
Also is the same of what this great book says: "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles. Here is a free audio book.

Can you add the open captioned on your videos?
  • ericworre
    What's that?
  • clarsen
It is just like text words on video as what you say. I am deaf. I do have hard time to find any video in network marketing with open captioned or closed captioned or text. There are too many audios or videos without text everywhere in the internet. Thats why I ask you if you could add text words (open captioned) on your videos-- that would be great helpful to me and others! Thank you

    You're welcome Oren
  • Looking back I have never had a job that wasn't at least salary plus commission. The last bunch were 100% commission. The ability to generate my check has been the best and worst nearly every month. Keeping customers is about added value. People do not stay based on price nor do they quit either. What you bring to the equation makes the difference.

QOTD: Everyone should have a home business just for the tax benefits if nothing else. The second advantage is the impact one has on personal growth. The potential for serious money is the sizzle. NM is as main stream now as insurance agents, real estate agents, lawyers and doctors. The difference is you don't need a license to practice.... and it is a practice.
  • I just thought about this: many year ago a report was written and entitled "Sponsor a 10."

It talked about sponsoring up and to seek "10's."

In a binary plan you have two legs. If you are sponsored by an Eric or Randy more than likely one leg will be built for you as in a "power leg." Your job is to build the other leg! Since half you business will be built from overflow.

Find another Eric a "10" and your job is literally done. Again it's not about how hard you work, but how smart you work. Target your prospects, use New School methods to sort to find those one or two "10's" and you're getting paid! Sure a 7, 8 or 9 will also do! You'll get paid! You never know when a "2" joins, as to who they know! It only takes a builder left and right to make it happen! How simple is that??????????

    I hope this helps.

  • There is a term in the corporate world called "Merritt Pay." You get paid for your efforts, the more you do the more you can earn so to speak. Does it really work? That's debatable. Depends on who's rating you and how they feel about you. Are there measurable activities to compare you against? Etc.

My wife is a very hard worker, never takes a day off. I mean never! She can't earn any more than the next person as she's a union person. Scheduled raises are in place. Extra effort means nothing in this environment. You must chose your battle grounds of when and where to apply your efforts.

Eric, I get the feeling you were always a top achiever. An "A" type person. You don't know how to slow down, that's just you! Unfortunately there are people like me, that want it now, are impatient, we want it made as simple as possible. That's the break down in MLM between leaders and the troops! You see life through your rose colored glasses, the rest like my wife are usually happy just to have a job and a place to go to daily. Everyday I ask her how was your day. She replies every single day it was a good day! Even when if it wasn't, that's just her. She'll never do NWM.

As for NWM, set a gaol of what you want to earn and move toward that goal. Having the time is an issue for most because of those jobs. If they apply more effort as you suggest on those jobs they'll have less energy for their business. That's not good for anyone.

I only did what I "felt" like they were paying me for. When I was down sized in 1994 I was excited and never got an 8 to 5 after that. Others that had worked hard were pissed off that IBM let them go. IBM, had told them as long as we worked hard we would have a job. That turned out to be a lie.

There are realities in life we all must respect. Do what you is expected of you on the job nothing more.

Owning a business as with MLM is different. Do what is necessary to accomplish your dreams. It's your business.
The bigger the dream the more work that must be done.

Yet MLM's continue to dumb down the pay plans in an effort to make it simpler, easier to get paid more and more. Is this sending a false illusion & expectation of no work need be applied? I think so. Join and instant wealth is a round the corner.

    uh that hits a spot

Great reminder for all of us ! I have always felt that I've done more than I've gotten paid for when it comes to EVERY job i've had. But not true for my own business.
You've helped me to see / uncovered another area for me to work on !
Thanks so much for all of your wisdom and teaching Eric,
    hugs
    Chris

by the way - I had to chuckle at the guy walking thru the fountain behind you - picking up tossed coins ??!!
    :)
  • Excellent advice Eric. I've always been a believer in going the extra mile. People that complain and say things like, "that's not my job, why should I do that?" or "they don't pay me enough to do that." etc. are the people that never get ahead....go figure.
Make your work match the money you WANT, not the money you currently make.

QOTD: I think Network Marketing IS going mainstream...slowly but surely. It seems to be gaining credibility bit by bit (thanks in part, to shows like this). Now, is it READY to go mainstream? I'm not so sure. I think there are still too many "MLM Morons" around for this industry to be taken seriously.
I often think that there should be some kind of certification required in this business, like in other "professions". Accounting has CPAs, we could have CNMs, but you would lose your credentials if you behave like a moron....LOL!
  • anaines
Eric, this is one of the best advises I've heard from you so far :)

Thanks for doing this and please continue to do it...

  • Constantly adding value to the world. Thank Eric! I happened to glance at the latest videos section of this website yesterday and it dawned on me that you had 3 consecutive episodes from 3 different continents.. WOW .. Very COOL!

QOTD: Personally, I hope that NM does not go mainstream quite yet, but I I think it has been ready for some time now I think what makes NM special is that it is NOT mainstream and part of everyones conscienceness. It's cool to be part of an exclusive club and as they say, membership has it's privileges. My thought on this is: those who truly get it will make NM stronger for being part of it and the stigma of the industry keeps the many of the lazy asses out. As the economy continues it's big shift I believe it is inevitable that NM does go mainstream in the next 5-6 years. Those of us who learn to become professionals, thanks to people like you Eric, will be positioned to create a legacy for their grandchildren. Of the people who do come in once it does become a Mainstream profession, I wonder if they will bring an entitlement mentality to the industry..
  • Amazing lesson Eric, I think we get caught up in that entitlement mode! Love that we learn valuable lessons and get to travel vicariously through you.

    Enjoy!
  • makerofstuff
I think that Network Marketing is ready to go mainstream, but I wonder if the work force that comes with it is? I would like to think that I could keep up with it if it did.
  • Marina
    Thanks, Eric.

Great topic. It's true. A lot of ppl think, it's enough to work hard few days, 1 week, few weeks or little bit more and you are ready to be paid for rest of your life. It doesn't work like this. Our job to teach our team to invest in themselves, in their knowledge, in their business. And then, after hard work for consistent period of time, then the results will come.

QOTD: I think very soon, NM will ready to go mainstream. We need to work on it. We need to re-brand the name of NM.

    Thanks again.

    Take care of you :))

    Marina
  • I love to see that you're allways talking from the bottom of your heart. So valuable! Thanks, your biggest fan.
  • this is simply you at your BEST!

and thank you for such a good and smart reminder...

  • Thank you for the mention Eric. You have no idea how much one gains from being there 'live'. Oh, and having to hold that ridiculously heavy camera for a whole 3 minutes.... and in the rain... :)
To your readers I say... If you ever get the opportunity, Just Do It!

Not so long ago I had a long, let's call it a discussion, on a popular social media site with an exceptionally talented person about a lot of people never being in business before therefore not treating their Network Marketing business as a real business. You once said that if people treat it like a job, having to be there no matter what, then they would possibly have better or more consistent results.
As a traditional business owner one knows the incredible highs and lows that go with the territory yet many traditional business owners stick to a dead end business for many years before making a real profit, they work through it and see it through to a 'sometimes' successful result, forsaking family, friends and their even self respect in some cases.
Yet in Network Marketing a lot of people, business owners or not, seem to just give up the ghost. The main reasons in my opinion are the lottery mentality as you call it, the false expectations in your previous segment and plain shear lack of self drive and determination. Needless to say that I truly believe that most people mean well and really do try so incredibly hard to the best of their ability, yet sometimes it's just not enough. Enter self development.

Is Network Marketing ready for mainstream? I don't understand why you ask that question. Network Marketing is already in the mainstream if one wants to believe it to be, yet there are misconceptions and huge disconnects from the perceived reality to the actual reality.
A good friend once said to me that Network Marketing is really only there for those who are prepared to open their eyes and look. There will always be those who will not and so it already is in the mainstream for those ready for it.
Let's just put our faith in knowing that your show and some others will help the mainstream to open their eyes just a little bit.
  • Very very very very goooooood!

    wowwwwwwwwwwwww!

I am really working my but off (is this the way to say it?) to get my extraordinary income I will get I am believing in July next yuear: 100.000 Euros!!!! Not Dolares, no! Euros!!

I will beat you eric, and you know why?

Because I have what you din't have when you started you business.

Let me tell you what I have that gives me an advantage over you.

    I GOT YOU!!! :)))

Love you all ( but love you, Eric, more, hehehe)

This was a very valuable lesson for me, Eric! I easily get disappointed, when the results aren't like I expected. When I worked hard, tried to use every tip I got from you and other experts and still it didn't work out like i was hoping for, I am disappointed and unmotivated too easily. Have to keep on going until I get the results and even then going on to keep the results.
Thanks so much for this, Eric.
About QOTD: I honestly don't understand the phrase: to go mainstream! (Sorry, but English is not my home-language) What do you mean by this?
    Kind regards
    Stella Webber
  • Bec Dorsey
Welcome to my city Eric! What brings you to Sydney? Loving NMP - a great voice of reason & inspiration. Enjoy your visit here. Cheers.
  • Enrique
No. I don't think NW is ready to go mainstream. There is too much hype and very few leaders like you in the field.
  • you always have a great message to share, Eric.

must be some law of the universe - give back first, then ye shall receive. just gotta work this way. ESPECIALLY in network marketing, how can we ever expect to receive anything if we're not putting any investment in our people?

even if we don't get paid for everything we do, we still gain the experience and develop the mental strength & character that will help us get ahead in whatever we do in the future, be it in the same position or something completely unrelated.

if we're aiming to build an empire, many people fail to understand it takes quite a while to build a solid foundation, during which time it may seem like there's no results. yet, it's all that work we put and don't get paid for that allows us to rise to the positions in which wealth flows.

a much needed reminder, keep 'em coming!
  • Nice one Eric. Hard work for long term gain - I'm in.
  • danimalaways
great as all of them and even better, amazing for me to find someone in MLM that makes so much sense as you do, you are actually doing exactly what you wanted to do - creating the ground for professionalism in MLM, thank you
good to have people like you in this industry that are still rare i am sorry to say, dani
  • Yeah, I'll Do MORE Than I Get Paid... Thanks for your sharing Eric. I'm waiting for you to come to Thailand event also. thanks again.
