September 23rd, 2009 Email This

Yesterday, we talked about having an Accountability Partner to keep you on track and help Re-Program Your Mind for Success.  Today, we talk about how Books can supplement that effort.  Question of the Day (QOTD): What are you Reading right now?

  • aliceflanders
Eric Lofholm's Selling in the New Economy.
  • I LOVE reading and currently reading "Developing the Leader within You". I've learned so much since my reading journey and listening to you has to added my learning!
  • I need to read more and find more hours in a day
  • Erik

I've actually set an appointment on my schedule for "reading" ! it's helps me to not have the excuse that there is no time for it.
I'm not a big reader - would like to do anything but that - so it's an area I have to be conscious of and make more of an effort to improve !
    Again, many thanks
    Hugs

Hi Eric, It's a real pleasure to watch your daily program. I've got a partner for taking action to grow our business together 5 days a week.
I'm reading ficiton at the moment "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" by Stieg Larson, a 5-million best-seller, and at the same time: Brian Tracy's "Get Rich Your Own Way".
Good luck with the workout - I notice the change in you - I'm sure others are noticing too.

    Eric,

You are so funny!! Great stuff. I actually am a reader with a library in my home chock full of books ..read and some not read yet. My reading goal is 2 books per week, but I started with a committment of only 10-15 minutes per day. Now I have withdrawals if I am unable to enjoy my allotted time for reading every day. Never thought it would happen, but glad it did. Recently am stocking up on MLM/Network Marketing books to emerse myself into..can not wait for yours.

Thank you as always for great stuff.
  • LottaForever
Hi, I'm reading The monk who sold his Ferrari and I went to Robin Sharmas (the author) seminar i Gothenburg a few weeks ago - How to Lead without a title. It was awesome!
    Have a great workout!
  • My husband's so great in reading books fast and he reads a lot. I read so slow so it's been challenging but no more "excuses"! I shall start reading again starting today! Thank you for the inspiration.
  • So can we start a get thin and healthy book CLub together? You are sooooo funny! Looking forward to sharing your
transformation...I am having a blast at Flagship gym and all the new classes where we "shake our Booty" OFF!
Try it ....along with those gorgeous Personal Trainers!

    Eric-
Thanks for your counseling, which is excellent as usual. I am reading 'Think and Grow Rich,' by Napoleon Hill. This is a standard and many people say they have read it, but have they really digested it and put the principles into practice? I am and it is making a real difference in my attriude, thoughts, actions and they will manfest in positive reaults for my bsuiness. I am exicted about the future.
  • dr_dock
I love you for bragging already about your forth coming book !...
I have read a few crap books myself lately, one from Richard Dawkins: The God Delusion, fundamentally atheist, even I could not like it !...despite that, Deepak Chopra's How to know God has not been very useful for me just now.
I wonder what I will think when I read it again in 5 years !?....
and about reading again, I am starting NLP, the New Technology of Achievement from Steve Andreas and Charles Faulkner (who married my ex-wife!) wonder how I will like it now !?...
not very keen on noisy activities in natural settings...but it was fun seing you allowing yourself to look like a beginner....some metaphor here ! thanks very much.
  • Hi Eric,
one a week regarding approaches to health and fitness you will, no doubt, have a mindset accordingly :)

QOTD: I've been reading The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.
This book will accompany me for quite some time, it is Fantastic!!!
    Love to read.

    Cheers
  • I'm a crazy reader- got it.

I was pulling my hair out as I watched you list all of those workout books, because I'm so sure they are SUCH a waste of your time and energy. Here are the two things you need to do for a thin body:

    1- SPRINT HARD 3-4 times, 3-4 times a week
2- Don't eat to change your mood.

#2 is harder than #1 for a lot of people, but I swear- that's ALL you need!!!

So, similarly, I was wondering what would be the two little things I would need to do in MLM to distill all of the crap down to two sentences. I've heard it before, but here's what my brain came up with:

    1- Talk to People
    2- Get them to events

What do you think of that?
  • C'mon Eric
    First Marina, now Wendy????
What are you trying to do, here?

How much do you think our hearts can stand? Not even HRT can help us with these lovely ladies!

I guess you didn't speak about the REAL book you are reading right now: Bones Rodriguez "Captain Kirk's Guide to Women", :).

Bones, I am gonna get that book too!

Eric, next time you come to Portugal, if you don't bring any of those lovely ladies, you will not be able to step off the airplain!

But let me tell you this: If you bring them, you have a free meal assured! :).

QOTD: I am currently reading As A Man Thinketh, just finished Think and Grow Rich...

    Love you all
    Alfredo Rodrigues
  • Yes! Captain Kirk's Guide To Women!! Hahaha! I hope Eric is noticing a theme here... maybe he should add some pictures of pretty women EVERY episode!

For the ladies, I'm sure ERIC is eye-candy enough :-)
  • ericworre
Oh believe me, I made sure Marina approved first. :)
  • Marina
    Hi, guys

What are talking here about? Lol

I agree with you Bones, his eyes are amazing! And he is always in the middle of pretty ladies.

Alfredo, can I think about it as an invitation to Portugal?!

P.S. Where I can find this book too "Captain Kirk's Guide To Women"? :)) Is it real book or you just kidding? If it exist, I think it's gonna be interesting to read what do you think about women :)

    Have a great time, guys

    Marina
  • good boy :).
  • ido_aronson
I am reading Randy's "How to Build a Multi-Level Money Machine".
The new edition that is, and - talking about the new edition - I hope you are not heartbroken anymore with your number 84 copy; I have number 136 !!! (HundredThirtySix...)

So you see - I am here - as always - following you very very consistent, even without posting that many comments...

Keep up this amazing content; there's always room for more knowledge.
    Yours,
    Ido
  • ericworre
Randy's book is one of the best.
  • Thank you sharing Eric,
I love reading SO much, and I know the value of the books. My previous business was Library for Russian Community in Toronto. Now I don't have so much time for reading but I do it every day.

QOTD: I strongly recommend for reprogramming your mind for success the book of Og Mandino "The Greatest Secret in the World". It is like meditation and you are advised to read the same chapter for a definite period of time 3 times a day. I experience the influence of this reading on my attitude, even if I do this reading once a day it works great. This book saved my positive mindset numerous times.

Thanks again for this question Eric.
    Best wishes,
    Tanya
  • ericworre
Og Mandino. What a great guy. He spoke at one of our TPN functions and it was the last talk he did before he passed away. I miss him.
  • donham298
    Get Motivated by Tamara Lowe
  • ericworre
    Yeah? How is it?
  • GlobalVision
QOTD: Extreme Dreams Depend on Teams by Pat Williams. Great stuff in here on philosophies and concepts on creating winning teams!
  • ericworre
    Sounds appropriate. :)
  • Ah...! I LOVE this! I remember during the Singapore Network Marketing Conference hearing Art Jonak saying how he read and increase the number of books. Till today, I still tell my team and friends to read at least 10 pages of a good book everyday... I'm going to increase myself to finish a book every 2 week.

I don't really read book on network marketing but more on self-help / personal development.

Question of the Day (QOTD): What are you Reading right now?
How can I get myself to do what I need to do? by Terry Gogna
  • ericworre
Try focusing on Network Marketing books from now to the end of the year and watch for the results.
  • Awesome as always Eric. I agree that reading books (the right kind of books, mind you) can be a huge factor in our success. It's all about continuously learning and growing.

QOTD: I just started reading "Money and the Law of Attraction" by Abraham-Hicks.

p.s. I hope you're not feeling TOO sore today. :)
  • Awesome book...the real deal is all there. Abraham-Hicks rocks!
  • The interesting thing about reading a book is while it gives a new appreciation for what you are reading it does not provide the 'something' that is essential in the knowing and what the book is about. If you were to read the entire encyclopedia on bicycle riding and you did not know how to ride a bicycle before your reading... you would still not know how to ride a bicycle after you completed the reading. The 'theory to practice' shift is difficult. Once you have the practice down the theory has a different flavor and the parts that were not understandable are now clear. This is one reason I reread the books I have read where I attempted to implement a portion or all of its theory. IF you don’t read the book to begin with there is no chance for theory to practice to occur.

Watching the Vikings play on Sunday is different than being one of the players on the field playing on Sunday. Reading the news reports the next day and watching the highlight clips does not equal either position either. The difference between being an observer in the stands or a player on the field is the crucial difference. If your reading gets you out of the stands onto the field it will have made a difference. Sooner or later you have to put yourself into play.

In theory if you give your body all the nutrients it needs the urge to nibble and snack without paying attention to the eating tends to disappear. If you can remain present to the eating you can choose not to eat as well. I used to carry around a little pad and pen that fit into my pocket. I did not restrict or inhibit my eating I just wrote down what it was I was putting into my mouth, the cause as best I understood it and the time. I studied me eating. It was a fun course of study too. After a couple weeks patterns emerged and I became more conscious of what I put into my mouth and the subtle triggers that moved me to the ice cream. At some point I stepped on the scale, before and after eating, walking, working out, sleeping, etc and wrote it down. My little journal kept me conscious and in the beginning I was only interested in the observing. If you want to lose weight you only have to eat less and exercise more. If that isn’t working eat less and exercise even more and if that isn’t working eat much much less than you think you need to exist. Who invented three meals a day plus snacks anyway?

QOTD: I have a dozen books in play on my desk. Some are a first read. Winning by Jack Welch keeps me thinking for a long period after each dozen pages or so. The 29% Solution by Ivan R. Misner is designed to take 52 weeks to read and implement. Books I am rereading for the second time are Marc Warnke’s ONO Options Not Obligations; John Maxwell’s Developing the Leader Within; and Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink. My current desert books are Paulo Coelho’s The Fifth Mountain, Hilaire Belloc’s How the Reformation Happened and Buckminster Fuller’s Critical Path [you have to have read Buckeys’ book many times before it tastes like desert]. I am reading a ‘chapter’ from Proverbs daily, sometimes I read the same chapter each day for a week and I have a daily reading schedule with a monthly publication called Magnificat. It helps if you leave the TV off most of the day.
  • ericworre
My friend, you are one smart dude. Do me a favor and try reading only network marketing books for a month or two. See what happens.

I also agree that reading alone won't get you all the way there. BUT, it's one of the best programming tools I know.
  • I will honor your request. I will do a search on the subject.
  • Tribes by Seth Godin - a true inspiration to me always
  • ericworre
    Yes
  • I am currently re reading John C Maxwell's 21 irrefutable laws of leadership.... I am also waiting for my wife to finish The Lost Symbol so that I can read it.

    I have a few questions.

If you have more than one area that you feel you need accountability with, Should you have more than one workout partners if you feel that different people are better suited to help in those separate areas of development?

Can you have more than one workout partner per area of needed growth?

Do you suggest the workout partner be at a higher level in their growth process than you ( like your group of 5) to pull you up?

Finally, how many books do you read a week?

Thank you for your leadership my friend.

  • ericworre
    1. More than one workout partner is fine. If one is an awesome parent and you want to get better, spend time with them. If another is in amazing shape and you want to improve, spend time with them. Etc.

    2. Sure, it's called friends :)

    3. Not completely necessary.

    4. About 2 on average

    I'm glad!
  • bethascoli
Right now I have very little time to read, but I spend a lot of time in my car, so I listen to books while I drive. I have some Brian Tracy stuff in there right now, but I need some new material...does anybody have any recommendations about audio book subscriptions, such as audible.com?

Eric, one great health book that I would recommend to you is Strength for Life by Shawn Phillips...it was mentioned in Success Magazine a few months ago. I just finished reading it, and I'm getting ready to do the program outlined in the book. If you've heard of Body for Life, it's very similar (it was written by his brother) but I think this one is better.

And btw, I know your book is going to be amazing, I can't wait! Have you started writing it yet?
  • ericworre
I'd love to see you focus on Network Marketing books for a few months.
  • bethascoli
    Thank you, I will
  • Hi Beth,

Shawn Phillips is an excellent teacher. Shawn and Bill built EAS here in the Denver area, and they have had an amazing influence in helping people improve their health and lives. David
  • ericworre
I met Bill once. Awesome guy. Painfully shy. Wild huh?
  • Yeah that is wild. You wouldn't think that Bill would be shy, because he comes across so passionately about health and wellness. His Body For Life book was excellent. I'm proud of you Eric for investing in your health! I know that starting a new exercise program and adjusting your diet is 'uncomfortable', but after awhile, it's becomes second nature.
  • enrique62
Question of the Day (QOTD): What are you Reading right now? I love to read. I am reading three books:Why Good People Do Bad Things by Debbie Ford,The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama, and Your Immmortal Reality by Gary Renard.
Eric thanks for showing us how you are re-programming your mind in an area of your life that is challenging.
  • ericworre
Try some MLM books for a few months.
  • enrique62
    Eric:
Can you recommend 5 or more books in MLM?
  • kathyschneider
Ahhhhhh ... now I get why my reading comment yesterday was 'funnier' than I could imagine. Today's lesson was good. I couldn't agree more .. in fact, in Foundation we teach each new partner to memorize and schedule in their planner, 1/2 Dozen Actions and one of those (actually #3) after #1 - focus on your goals for 15 min., then #2 - listen to 30 minutes of a MLM CD, etc (part of mine is the Eric Worre daily video, then I listen another full 30 minutes to something while on the treadmill) and then #3 - read 10 pages of a GOOD BOOK! FYI .. I've been told the #1 BEST BOOK on diet, nutrition, etc is Nutrition for Champions by Dr. Michael Colgan of the Colgan Institute .. you should add it to your list to read! <<smile>> Congrats on your plan to make a change and the commitment to the work out partner 3 days a week! </smile>
  • ericworre
Naw, it's just that Jeff & I used to be partners in another life. I'll check your book recommendation. Thanks!
  • kathyschneider
Okay, gotcha .. so was Clouse in that life, too? He mentioned Olson being a mentor for about 10 years -- it's was Michael actually that told me about the Colgan book. It is a good read! Enjoy.
  • I really check out everything what can improve my skills. I love personal development. The book I'm reading (listening) now is the ebook; Choose to be Rich from Robert Kiyosaki. Great stuff..thanks and regards, your biggest fan.
  • ericworre
Try some MLM books for a few months.
