On making good meetings, yes Ive heard the "bikestory" from several teachers. And its so true. Jom Rohn used to say : Repetition is the mother of success .
  • Brilliant message Eric.

It seems relevant to mention that people coming in on such a low price of entry may be much less confident from the get go than someone who already has the confidence and resources to start a $1 million biz. Usually the kind of person with that mindset will already have been successful in business.

I completely agree about the mindset people bring with them into NM such as giving it a go until it becomes a little uncomfortable and then they just stop! I do think that as a profession we are often the cause of attracting that though.. So many presentations about NM make it seem like everything is sooooo easy and it causes people to have unrealistic expectations.

It's a fine line I find between making success seem attainable even for someone who has never been in business before to setting realistic expectations from the outset.

A fine line... you're helping us stay on it though! :)
  • I am pretty self confident.
    QOTD: My companies attitude...

  • Thanks for your confidence!!! your biggest fan.
  • I need the most confidence in taking my believe in what I know about my products and what they can do for people to everyone that I meet in the most appropriate way that they need to hear about it. Thanks for another great inspiration. We all need to treat our business as the million dollar business that it is, if we don't it will never be that way for us.
  • The Network Marketing equivalent to Real Estate's Location, Location, Location! ... When I've taught kids to drive as a Driver's Ed instructor the kids that drove the most with their parents was VERY evident... Same concept here. Those who practice their craft the most are the ones who do the best...

I LOVE this concept of treating network marketing as a million dollar business. I do however believe people have such a hard time wrapping their head around that number it's hard for them to treat it that way. I fight it myself. My first goal is to treat it like a job that is lucrative enough that my wife can retire. That in itself is great. I catch myself thinking about a $100,000 business. Then I think of what it would take to make that a reality and I work my way through the numbers. For her to retire it literally is a million dollar business to achieve that goal. I guess I'm saying thank you for helping me raise my awareness of what this business is so I can make this dream a reality.

QOTD: I hate to say it, is the studying part of the business, once I know what I need for each situation, I'm more confident. Knowing what to say and when to say it, in general. I know that tactics "don't sell" but they do at least help me when someone asks me a question, (what to do next, 3 way call. 3rd party tool, how do I get started). I'm becoming more of a student since NM Pro has started and I'm FINALLY starting to see some results in my behavior and business.

    Thanks Again
  • Makes so much sense......practice, practice, practice!
You're right, that's how we gain confidence!
QOTD: For me, it's the initial conversation.

    Bones,

Let me clarify. Repetition will help you improve and build confidence in virtually any skill set. In the MLM profession, when it comes to recruiting as an example, repetition will help you not only improve your recruiting skills, but it will help you understand the law of averages as well. Both of those things will build confidence.

Yes it's true that you won't be able to recruit people 100% of the time like you can now tie your shoes, but I think you miss what I was trying to say (or maybe I said it poorly). Tying your shoes goes from being uncomfortable to comfortable. You go from being insecure about it to secure about it. The same is true for every aspect of the Network Marketing business.

On the low price of entry, it might be someone's last $1,000, but that's still far different (I know, I've been there) than someone who has borrowed big money from banks, family, etc. and signed large personal guarantees on everything from inventory to leases to everything else.

And I'll also challenge you on the numbers ratio. Every person in every profession, including ours, has a ratio. Depending on your current skill set, a certain percentage of people will join, a certain percentage will duplicate and a certain percentage will continue long-term.

    I hope that helps.

Question of the Day (QOTD): Where do you need the most confidence in relation to your Network Marketing Career? How to Present the Business to new people. You are right if someone invested $250,000 of their own money in a business, they wouldn't doubt that they are creating value. I need to change how I see my $3,000 investment as a $1 million investment.
If someone would pay me $50,000 for each person I would give a tool to see or read, I wouldn't have any problem finding 1,000 persons.
In conclusion, my challenge is one of perception.

I don't know if you should call it lack of cofindence but my problem is procrastination....

  • QOTD: The most important area of confidence in Network Marketing is two fold. One, the confidence to approach people, because nothing says you care like the personal touch. Two, the confidence in the product or service you offer, Because if you don't belief your product or service is of value, no one else will either!
  • Y'know, I'm a big fan of this show, and of Eric Worre,

-But this episode is horribly misleading.

Once you learn to tie your shoe, you don't STILL fail 9 out of 10 times doing it.
After you learn to ride a bike, you don't FALL DOWN 9 out of 10 times, and "pros" aren't "used to" falling down all the time.

I DO believe that confidence can come from practice, but in our business it is NOT anywhere NEAR the same thing, and they are NOT comparable, even though it sounds good and "motivating".

The low point of entry isn't always low to people either (for some it's their last $1000), and frankly, getting a loan for a million might be easier. The low point is NOT a reason to be unconfident at all- it might even give people extreme confidence- They may feel like they don't have much to lose.

Most salespeople start out rough, and learn along the way, and failure is part of the equation, but at the end of the day, they end up with some sort of ratio- that is NOT the case in our profession- as the numbers clearly demonstrate.

In my own sales experiences, I've learned that I can make offers, and some people accept them, some don't, end of story, and they're still our friends and family.

That is NOT the case in MLM, and we all know it.

I'm starting to think that the "leading with the opportunity" thing is really killing the golden goose,
and things like "repetition" of what does NOT work is what we as an industry are doing.

    Bones -
You present several realities of our business. However, unless we continue with sharpenig our skills of inviting people and using the system that works, we will not succeed. This episode was not misleading. We need to believe in what we do and clearly understand that network marketing attracts those that want more out of life and are willing to do what others will not. We are looking for the 5% that will go after something that is not easy, but stick to it. The knowledge that the rewards are huge is what keeps me going.

Repetiition of what does not work is me putting in long hours at a job, expecting to get ahead financially. Did that. Does not work!
  • Eric, most people can't treat their NM like a million dollar business because they don't know how to and in a lot of cases they just don't see it as such because they have never been exposed to anything like a million dollar business. It's like telling someone they can earn $100k a month. A lot of people get the concept but don't believe it's possible for them! They then feel like they can't do it which causes them to feel like a failure. I get that this is important yet let's look at the following scenario.
What's the first thing a child says when they finally learn to tie the shoe lace, or ride the bike 'without' training wheels? Look Mom, look Dad, look Nanny, look what I just did". Then the adult praises the heck out of them.
From birth children are praised for everything from giggling to burping, talking to walking, and a lot of the time they are praised for just being... Now THAT builds their confidence that spurs them onto greater achievements because they "WANT" to. And they want to because it feels good.
That is why recognition, in my opinion, forms the basis of any successful person. There are obviously a whole host of other inputs yet this is one of the most important. Once someone feels good about their achievement, great or small, they are more likely to WANT to go the next step. ("Create in the other person an eager want").
So if we praise/recognise more, (for the correct behaviour), then one feels more inclined to achieve the next step. Then, in time, they will understand the importance of treating their NM like a million dollar business because by the time they have achieved the right steps it will start to look like one.
Looking forward to part 2. Thanks.

I like your phrase, "did it and did it and did it." Reminds me of a speech by Art Williams, really fantastic, about business: http://www.workfromhomenetworkmarketing.com/jus...
  • I am all fired up! And I didn't get 50% on what the man was saying!!!! Now, Imagine if I would...
    I WOULD DO IT!!!
    ;)
    Thanks queen
  • What can say... WOW!!! Thank You! for the inspiration of Art Williams.
  • I know if I do it often enough and long enough it will work. I'm 'lazy' however and I like sneaking up on the real task with smaller ones I am already an expert at or comfortable with. This series is perfect for what I need. How do I transfer or instill confidence in others? How do I become confident at being a coach? [Repetition!] When I can see the second or third move in chess or billiards I do very well. Usually I just take the shot or move the next piece that appears to be next. I don't do as well then. It's not strategy but something, I don't know, something that puts you back on the court instead of watching from the stands. 'If you have everything under control, you're not moving fast enough.' -Mario Andretti

Thank you Eric, this is exactly what I needed.
  • alexanderpadilla
    Eric -
What struck me from the episode is that we need to understand that we have a million dollar business that we are in and that we are offering others to take part in. Keeping that in mind will give me confidence. I need more confidence in getting propspects to pull out their credit card and place their order.
  • Hello Alexander. If the prospect wants to they will gladly give you their credit card. If they want to.
'Getting' them to is called selling!
  • alexanderpadilla
    Hi Tony -
The 'selling part' is what freaks people out in this business. Whtever we wnat to refer to it as, the reality is, we do have to get comfortable with the process of enrolling people. At the end of a presentation we must put an application in front of the prospect and indicate that to get started we will help you fill out the application and activate your order with a credit card. We need to lead the prospect through the process. That is where I need to improve and be more confident about.
  • I see. Again, if the prospect wants to they will gladly give you their credit card :)
You must, however ask for it, and I understand that part can be difficult.
As Eric said, repetition can be of enormous help. Practicing in the mirror is really hard because you know your own fear. But when you can say it to yourself in the mirror with confidence (and you will feel whent it happens), then you can say it to anyone. Go for it Alexander. You can do it!
  • enrique62
    Hi Alex:

I think selling freaks people out because they have a mis-perceptions of what selling is. People conjures pictures of the sheady car-salesman,swith and bait credit cards rates, and going door to door selling vacuum cleaners or Bibles.
Our job is to re-define that misperception in the prospect's mind.
