I am ready to take charge of my lilfe and business. The Pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change, the leader adjusts the sails.
  • aliceflanders
    yes
  • Miguel Cortez

WOw very well said regardless of what happens you have to always keep on moving forward, the change begins in you not around you

  • It is not that easy to do. I thought I can do, but now I think it will take some time for me to shift everything...
  • cmattern
This is a great message. Yes, when you are sailing, and the wind is coming at you from a less than ideal direction, you 'tack' into the wind and you make it. Similarly, when you are attempting to hike up a very steep hill, instead of going straight up, you zig zag across the face of it until you reach the top. It doesn't matter HOW you reach your goal, as long as you do, and the only way to get there is to not quit. You can't turn around partway to the top and expect success. Some people will reach the peak quickly, for others it may take considerable time. The point is.... to keep going until you get there.

WOW!!!! amazing show.... thats all i can say!!!!

Hi Erik, I just watched your post and am willing to take the challenge. . . my very first for this 2010.
    Thank you for everything.
    Happy New Year!
  • Well I guess this is it...time to test my character and see where my potential can really take me! I'm in....going for the challenge-100 shows /100 comments. Yes I am ready to take on the biggest challenge and test of my life so far! Just like the boating analogy..thanks Eric for the big push!
  • I have spent the last two days shoveling snow..The wind changes and I have to throw the snow in a different direction...If I do not make the change nothing positive happens...The same is true with life and our industry...
  • For things to get better, we have to get better!

    Yes!
  • ritafulton
    ERic,

Man I agree. If you wait for the "wind to change" or whatever you choose to call these uncertain times, how much further behind will a person be? I have been at fault on several occasions of making the staetment "Someday when..." Guess what, there is no "Someday" on any calendar I know.

    Great lesson, thank hyou again.
  • hcapcarp
Unfortunately, experience comes when as a result or not getting what you want
  • carybennett
So very True, sometimes with myself in the past.
  • Mark (Germany)
Yes Eric, what I take from this, is my topic to date: being consistent ! Thanks. So, till tomorrow !
  • Mark (Germany)
Adjust the sail, move forward, regardless of the winds direction .. what a really good perspective from a sailing point of view !
  • I am thankful for the wind that always blows around me. It let's me know that I am still alive and have a chance to grow and prosper even more! I thank God every day for the winds of change. I take on every opportunity to grow full on and allow the wind to be used to move forward no matter what.
AOTD: I am ready to continue to take full charge of my life and business in 2010 and beyond.
Thanks Eric for your inspiration and leadership.
    God Bless!

Following on the idea of the wind, it's actually a good thing for the wind to blow, regardless of the direction. If it doesn't, your sail doesn't matter. If that's the case of life, where nothing is difficult but nothing is great either, well, then it's time to take our the oars and start rowing!
  • Queennaxen
Following on the idea of the wind, it doesn't matter in what direction it's blowing as long as it is. If there IS no wind, then the sail is irrelevant and you better have a motor or be ready to row. :D
  • And as I once heard, during crisis time, some cry, and other' s sell handkerchief's...
    QOTD: :)

    Love you all
    Alfredo Rodrigues
  • If you smile even if you don't feel like it, people will smile back and make you feel better. You are using their energy to boost yours and in the processyou increase theirs.
  • turjcxg
Eric, I love your message about how our business is like sailing. I had never heard that before but it makes sense and i'm going to use it with the people on my team!

THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT POSTINGS THAT YOU DO FOR US!!!
  • cathymahady
I loved this message - it's about the approach you take to keep moving, regardless of the circumstances. Thank you for that reminder!
  • Great post Eric, "It is not the Blowing of the Wind - It is the Setting of the Sail" - Originally heard that from Rich DeVos.
  • gabisahar
Skills of sailors, not only agriculture! thanks for reminiding us that great lesson
  • hanneretvik
Great lesson, Eric! The reference to sailing made it very easy to understand. QOTD: Yes, I'm ready!
  • Ioana
I believe that wind always blows from the right direction. Sometimes it is harder for us to see that.
  • latachia_2
Awesome lesson! QOTD: Yes I'm ready!
  • Couldn't agree with you more on the danger of waiting for the wind to change. Don't change the seed, soil, wind , sun or rain... Change yourself and set your sail for success.
Thank you for the "Rohnisms" I see a day when people are quoting you with the same reverence.

QOTD: I'm all in for 2010 !I have been passing the webinar to the people I work with closely and working on my Goals, Mission Statement and Action Plan since the Live Webinar. I will be finished with the planning this week and Hve already implemented some aspects of it already.

Thanks Eric and see you soon.
  • bethascoli
Yes, I am ready! Still working on my "2010 Action Plan" but will have it finished by the end of the week. Great message today!
  • hlj521
Awesome! I love that lesson! We are faced with a lot of different "winds" we just need to set our sail accordingly!
  • Ellis3
Yes I am so ready that I've just emailed my entire team to log on and join NMPro asap! Had a conversation with my wife and I declared that I was taking the family in a new direction this year - financial freedom, security and prosperity ... this was a good day to sail!!!
  • Jillian
Sometimes you need the wind in your face in order to get it behind you. Its about success and failure never being constant - you always need to be on your game.

QOTD: Yes, you have no idea how serious I am
  • Marion
Yes I am ready - 2010 is my year
  • Eric, it's funny how when the wind changes a small sailboat can actually topple over if the sails aren't adjusted quickly. So either way waiting for the wind to change is crazy.
  • Jeroen Lingier
qotd: I'm ready to take control: I've set a few goals.
    1. Being punctual (arriving 5min early instead of just in time)
    2. I wil read one personal devellopment book per month.
    3. I will post a daily comment.

Thanks for helping me realise that setting goals, helps you advance nomather what wind blows upon you.
  • Spot on Eric! You determine your own destiny by the set of your sail.

    QOTD: Absolutely! I am ready.

Thanks Eric for always being there to inspire us,
    Dorene Pierceall
  • bobmeguyer
I remember part of a motto or it might have been a poem in an early recording by Rich DeVoss , he said "It's the set of the sails and not the gales that determine the way I go.... "
Just finished watching the Sydney to Hobart yacht race here, I'm sure those who sailed know this.
  • Federico
Totally agree, its all about being ready to take charge, no matter how the wind blows.
However, I wonder if there is a time for each one of us to be ready?
And if so, is there anything we can do to be ready, or its just part of our journey.
  • I'm not standing by waiting for the wind to change, I just need to find the others who are not waiting either and get them to join my team! What a 2010 it will be!!!
  • And if by some chance the wind does fail you...

    Don't just stand there...

    "Grab An Oar"!!

ps: "If Nothing Changes... Nothing Changes" ;)

    "another great one" :)))
  • shawncyr
I would love to say that I am ready to take charge of my life and business, but there is that small voice inside wondering if I really am ready.
The nice thing is that I can choose, and have chosen, to ignore the small voice and go for it anyway. We learn as we go and try. It's all about the journey.
  • Great stuff Eric. As a sailor I can certainly confirm that you can make headway in any direction regardless of the wind. Indeed, without some resistance you can't go anywhere - even with a following stream pushing you along you need some friction to grip the boat. I think it's that fear and excuses chip that people get programmed with as they grow up when parents and teachers tell them what they can and can't do as they train them to be employees instead of entrepreneurs.
As some have said; "You can either make excuses or money. Which one do you choose?"

Tomorrow I will be finishing my first Og Mandino´s Scroll "Today I begin a New Life", my perception of my life, my perception of myself has changed 180 degrees. I don´t know what will be happening to me and my family this 2010, but I am sure, that by september, when I will be finnishing the 10 Scrolls, this will be fantastic. For the las 29 days, I have been in control of some habits that for years I´ve been strugguling with, with no results. Now I know for sure, the Jim Rohn Saying: "For things to change, I must Change", It´s true, it´s easy for you to change, than waiting the world to change.

From Puebla, Mexico; I am Sergio Quintana
  • The wind blowing does not mean anything more than it's blowing in one direction or another and it is not a personal phenomenon. How come people make it about them, that it means something about them and use it to stay stuck where they are? What one does in the face of their current set of circumstances will be different once they know their actions got them where they are and that there are actions that can move them toward where they want to go. Always allowing one's story about the circumstances to rule the day guarantees zero effectiveness. Waiting for a sign, a coke bottle to fall from the sky, the wind to change or the rain to stop... waiting for anything/anyone to fix your situation before you take action insures you will be waiting a long long time. QOTD: I am excited about how the new year is already set to burst at the seams. I intend to be the wind blowing creating one super storm.
  • the same winds that blow, blow on us all. like you said, it's the set of the sail that makes the difference.
    awesome message in todays show.

QOTD: yes! I have to, I can't have another 2009
  • hpena
Great Message. Coincidentally, It's really windy where I live right now. Even though the wind was against me, I kept moving forward. I noticed that my legs had to WORK HARDER to get me where I needed to go. The same is true for our profession, sometimes you have to WORK HARDER to set the direction of your sail.
  • Yep, it's a fact..you're right Mr. Worre. Let's get ready for some rock & roll the coming year. Take care and regards from your biggest fan.
  • MillionairePrince
Eric, It is most definitely the set of our sail! I just wanted to say that I appreciate what you are doing and what you continue to do!
  • Erik
    Yes I`m ready :)
  • marvalouslife1
A Pesimist will say that the wind will never change.
the Optimist will hope for the wind to change.
The leader will set the sails and go where ever he wants.
