wow i never seen that show but man they hit it on point with what not to do if you are in mlm
  • onemartymac
This might be my favorite video... Be Professional! Thanks for all you do
  • cherisizzles
What a great way to show that REAL Network Marketing Professionals are not afraid to laugh at the stereotypes! This clip was truly every cliche in the book. Now we go out and make sure we don't try to sell the business in those ways. I will be professional. I will set proper expectations. I will help people build a real, solid career! Yay!
  • FedericoGrowthsperity
This show was simply fantastic, I love that you were bold enough to play that for everybody, that is what I call being PROUD of what we do...
  • Been gone for long! Glad to get back- this is ANOTHER of those great videos that would be great for a prospect to see BEFORE you show your opportunity... I think.
  • QOTD - NEW YEARS GOALS!
  • elenaz1
The first skill that I had to master is really how to be at service to others, and the rest will follow only if you are willing to be a good student.
  • Yes, most of people has lottery mentality.
There is so much untrue all around and everyone are just careful.
AOTD: I believe in New Year's Resolutions. This year will be my Best year Ever!
  • Luis (Pelon)
I believe in day by day, continuous resolutions. Every new day is an opportunity to do something better.
  • Vonnita2010
Hello Eric, as I understan from watching your shows, reading Randy's posts, reading LML books, and most of the material that I get form my upline... there are Keys that will help u overcome these mistakes, like first of all and very important, knowing the product, knowing it works and knowing that it is something that is innovative and will grow, something that is in the market already will not give you a chance of being the first but just a sales job right? second... if u r going to present LML make sure what LML is, that way you know that LML is not a piramid or money making scheemes... LML works and in that instance u need to know the difference!! ofcourse knowing where u r going to present the opportunity is ideal, but that also comes with your attitude.. see for example I went to a new year's party, yes I had OHM, and yes I did share a couple, but when I was asked what it was my answer was, A NEW PHENOMENOM... MY BUSINESS... but it's new year and I will tell you all about it when we meet, give me your no and I will call u, for now ... let's have fun!! YEY!!! and that is just a small part of what I am learning from all of u, the key... make sure you learn from those that have already succeded!! and u will know what to do!! MY BEST!!!
  • Great lessons to be learned from that little video is right Eric. I remember the first exposure I had with Network Marketing and that was exactly how I was approached. Even today I had people approach me with similar scenerios. When will they learn. You are right the amateurs have the "lottery mentality" and we know that just doesn't work. Great post. I will also say I can "humble" myself and have caught myself doing it as well so great timing to post these points.
  • Zeissy
:-))) That's funny! Good illustration what not to do! Thanks, Eric!
  • Eric, I couldn't help but laugh, and imagine how powerful it truly would be if everyone in Network Marketing did not come off like this.
  • juanfernandogutierrez
This was incredible, does anybody know what episode was this to download it and use it while doing trainings

    Thanks
  • ido_aronson
There is only ONE way to comment to roughly every sentence in this 8 minute clip: A M E N !!!!!
  • beckydesabah
First clue.... things NOT to do.
  • Enrique Caz
Hey Eric!... funny sketch!... I think even if we already know stuff we must not do presenting our oportunity, we sometimes let the flow go by depending the actual situation and we don´t know to skip that chance to a better time, place and with the proper preparation of the information... Some of us have some little time in NM and I bet we will not do the same as the sketch, but we´ll be having still lots of mistakes... we are on the way to go PRO with your help... Thanks Eric.

AOTD.- I do beleive in resolutions, but as somebody say, it is human condition and we just drop them at the first oportunity we have to get rid of them... we, most of the time, are not sincere and congruent with our resolutions...
  • Very interesting...We all want immediate gratifacation...It does not happen...We all need knowledge and the ability to learn from that knowledge to move forward....You are leading us down the path to success...thank you...
  • rayrios
#210 Thank you for the Challenge and The Gist of Knowledge. Look forward to a great 2010 with your insight and wisdon..Thanks Eric.
  • Had to hold my sides from laughing outrageously at this segment-great reality check Eric-thanks so much for reminding us how NOT to present our business! I've done it though..and sat through them years ago as well!
    UGH!
Learning curves ....thanks for showing us such a clear path...this is our decade and our year!
  • Robert
    yes, i believe
  • This was another excellent show and lesson to us all.
We live in a world where people think they are able to become wealthy for very little work.
When you have governments around the world promoting "Lotteries" with Million $$$ payouts for very little out lay it's no wonder people have this mentality of big rewards for little work.
  • That was beautiful. You have great insight. It also shows that many of us are afraid to step outside our comfort zones -- even if our 'comfort zones' are uncomfortable and stressful.
  • hcapcarp
I too, bought the lottery mentality but like most of life success comes to those who are willing to do what others are not. Sometimes that is just getting out of a personal self imposed prison known as a comfort zone. Change has never been easy.
  • glynnecupp
It is good to see & hear your wisdom again, Mr Worrie.
  • glynnecupp
I agree, lets make 2010 the best ever.
  • denagottlieb
That was really painful to watch. I wish people didn't hate mlm's so much!!!
  • MillionairePrince
Eric, awesome lesson, I believe this is why some many people are negative when it comes to network marketing. The lottery mentality is scary because people work madly for a job that will never provide freedom and then those same people become tired of that lifestyle and realize they've been had and see an opportunity in network marketing and think it will automatically make them millions...that's absurd! We do have the better way and in 2010 we must tell/show the world! Happy New years to all!!
  • talya_mitzafon
This is a great lesson to each and everyone of us! I personaly believe that in the 121 century many more companies and people will join the industry of network marketing. It's our mission to become professionals and show the world that we have a better way, a real one.
Wish you all an amazing 2010 !
  • carybennett
    That was good thanks
  • It is so true the things that exist in that clip. It is a shame that there are people in this industry that are not professional in what they do. Thanks for taking the lead and making a difference and helping us all to learn to become professional. You ROCK!
    God Bless!
AOTD: I do not believe in New Year's Resolutions. I believe in creating a definite plan for our lives that allows us to reach our dreams and goals. Write it down and work on it each and every day until it is fulfilled. Each of them connected with our core values. That is what life is really worth living for.
  • QueenNaxen
QOTD: No. I've tried having them and they don't work. To get anything do you have to treat your goal like an alcoholic or a drug addict: one day at a time, taking the steps you need to take day by day by day. Want to lose weight? Don't start by setting a weight loss goal; start by focusing on GOING to the gym one day after the other. Once you make something you didn't usually do a habit, something that's part of your routine, then you can go to the next step, I think.
  • Hi Eric, I will definitely be with you for the next 100 shows. Let's make 2010 bring us tremendous success. Happy New Year!!!
  • Dee_Canada
LOL....although I'm not a fan of the Office....many are...and you are correct that the stereotypes are absolutely grounded in fact. We are all tasked with changing that image. You are providing the medium to develop us all in the simpe disciplines that will change LIVES!! Thank you again!
  • Perfect example Eric!

This video really shows all the work we need to do as network marketing professionals, because people really are naive as to what a wonderful opportunity we have.

I didn't believe in New Year's Resolution, as most people I knew who had one failed, as they weren't determined.
I already heard a lot smokers swearing they'd quit next year...
Listening to some Jim Rohn tapes made me convinced you'd better set a goal to get ahead in life.
Whenever you set some goals with steadfastness, be it on New Year's eve or any other. The crucial factor, in my conviction, is your firmness.
    Greetings,
    Jeroen from Belgium
  • shawncyr
I do believe in New Year's Resolutions but I also believe that we can resolve to do anything at anytime. It's going to be a great year and I hope to help others have a great year too.
Loved the clip from the office.
  • QOTD: I do believe in any type of resolution if they really have a capital R.
It doesn't matter if it is a new Year's or a summer's or whatever.
    If you decide, that's it!

    Love you all

When you see a clip like that - you can understand why you get such negative reactions off the bat with some people. Knowing how to work professionally will certainly help to improve our industry.
  • Ouch, Anyway!
  • latachia_2
Awesome! That was a great means of getting a very good message to us.
    QOTD: Yes,New Years resolutions are
goals people make for the new year.Sometimes people keep them, sometimes not. But,at least they are making some goals for the new year.Who knows, maybe more people than we think will go to the gym, lose weight or quit smoking or what ever it is they want & need to do. It's all in the mindset. For instance, when I decided to quit smoking in 1992,I made up my mind to do it(cold turkey) & I did. So,if the person really wants to do something bad enough, they can.

    Hi Eric,
Since I was 25 and joined my first network marketing company I firmly believed that it was not only the best way to do business but also to create lasting relationships. It still makes me mad to see how uninformed people are about our industry and I am determined to let everyone know that I am a Professional Network Marketer. Thank you for sharing that funny clip from the office. I am now a member of NMPRO and I look forward to learning and sharing more with the community. ATB, Val Schuster

I used to get angry when the main stream media made fun of our industry. Probably because a lot of what they said is true. It's up to us to make the shift so the industry doesn't have such a stigma!
  • bethascoli
"When the son of the deposed King of Nigeria emails you directly asking you for help, you help" - LMAO!

This was great. I had heard about this episode but never actually saw it. It was a great idea to use it as a teaching tool - most people who saw it probably accepted it as proof that there is something wrong with network marketing, but you could make jokes about any profession. What we need to learn is that stereotypes (of any kind) often exist because there is some element of truth to them. As professionals, we need to make sure we are doing the opposite and make network marketing something that people want to be part of.

QOTD: I do believe in resolutions, despite the fact that most people never follow through with them. I think the reason for that is that most people don't really make "resolutions" - they maybe have a goal in mind, but that's not the same thing. It also has become such a cliche in our culture that people don't take it seriously, but I think there is value in it. The dictionary defines a resolution as "a formal expression of intention." It is one thing to say "I'm going to lose weight this year" it is another to say "I RESOLVE to exercise for 30 minutes each morning" or "I RESOLVE to stick to a healthy eating plan most days." You CAN"T lose weight (as an example) - what you can DO are the action steps that will lead you to that goal.
I don't necessarilly think that this (making resolutions) has to be done on January first, but I do think it's important to review a year of your life and plan for the next (there is a whole section about this in "Think and Grow Rich"). This can be done by the calendar year, or any other time that a person chooses .
  • lorijones
Eric, I remember watching this show a few months ago and had to laugh throughout the presentation thinking that many people do view our profession exactly the way it was portrayed by Steve! Great advice for NWM we need to continue to improve the image that many people have of us.
Fitness clubs love NY resolutions! I notice in January how club memberships skyrocket, then many just give up and quit what they want most because it becomes tough. Easy to make excuses, I have always loved the saying don't give up what you want most for what you want at the moment. Stay with it, even when it does get tough our real growth comes through these trials.
  • Very creative Eric. It illustrates very well the power of the misinformed and the mindset of some. Thanks and Happy New Year.

QOTD: NEW YEAR resolutions... No I don't believe in them. I don't see anything magical about January 1st being the singular thing that makes a wish come true. The fact that it's called a "New Year" defines as something that is temporary and not a real goal. I do however believe in setting goals and and an action plan. and with your latest webinar I KNOW THAT 2010 IS GOING TO BE , in your words, AMAZING!!! See you soon. God Bless
  • Packing up for four days away. Bringing the materials to design 2010. I like resolutions for the background they provide. This coming long weekend we will break the most important ones into commitments, goals, the game plan and steps to insure they actually appear. I have noticed that 'resolutions' written down and placed into 'existence' somewhere [refrigerator door] are almost always happen while the ones spoken, in the form of if I had three wishes... are forgotten 2 January.
  • Wow!

Reminds me of "my" intro to network marketing... hype, manipulation, bad, habits, and poor philosophies...

I'm just thankful that I am open minded, teachable, and willing to hang in there long enough to learn from those who are doing it right!! Thanks Eric

Thank you for Network Marketing Pro,
  • HAHA HAHA HAHA! This is a great episode, too funny and a great illustration of why the profession is looked down upon by so many people who only see the inappropriate and unprofessional tactics used by amateurs looking to get rich quick.

You’re absolutely right; We Do Have Work To Do.

    QOTD:

Do I “believe” in New Year’s Resolutions? That’s an interesting question.

    Short answer: sure.

But isn’t that kind of like asking someone if they believe in commitments or decisions?

Or maybe they’re like goals and dreams in that they only exist for you if you if you believe in them.
  • quintaser
At the end of each year, we have a feeling of "If I had pushed a little harder..." and then, we feel that the next year we are going "To push harder". If you want to improve, you don´t need to wait to the end of the year. There´s a quote that talks about that: ..May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions!

It is quite a mountain to climb, BUT with the examples of positive professional attitudes and behavior you provide on a daily basis, we can all reach the Promised Land together!
QOTD: Yes but only if you apply them for the next 365 days
  • Jillian
Yes - it is quite a mountain to climb, BUT with each person working with the professional attitudes and behavior you provide as alternatives on a daily basis, we can still get to the Promised Land together!
QOTD: Yes, but only if you apply them for the next 365 days

I think it's so important to realize that the misconceptions that people have about Network Marketing did come from somewhere. When I first got started as an amateur in this industry, I used to get really defensive whenever I was presented with any of these skeptical responses. I felt that that skepticism was unwarrented when there was a legitimate business on the table. But I came to learn that many illegitimate scams try their hardest to look like legitimate Network Marketing companies (primarily because NM is LEGAL).

Now I see skepticism as healthy; It's an indication that there is an interest but that more information is needed. Cynics on the other hand are a different story. It is our job as professionals to present that information without hype and cheap sales tactics, to show the difference between what we do versus what Steve Carrell was doing in the video. I'm happy that In today's world Transparency is King and the Truth will Win.

Thank you! You are so great at breaking things down and putting it into perspective!

The only reason I went into this business and am going to stay on is that wonderful people like you makes it possible to become a Professional. Thank you Eric, from a Norwegian/Italian pupil, already a fan of your daily lesons :)

Ouch....that hurt ! To see it all rolled into 90 seconds is painful.
But we know what we must do and we have 208 past episodes to make that a great 'resolution'.....thanks to you.

Did anyone notice what he had written on the flipchart (other than the pyramid)? Freeze frame and check it out. :)

Hilarious. It took a few tries to see it but this is what I caught:

  • gabisahar
Yes, I do. I am fortunate to have 2 new years, in one year! in the first, around Sept, I look back and summarise the past year, and in December, time for resolutions and planning.
  • Erik
Yes, this is funny :) And we need to step up and be PROs.
Yes I belive in them but must people " quit " their New Year`s Resolutions often after a few days or weeks. Then they wait untill the next year and starts and quits all over again.
