NMPRO #211 – Dan Catto Interview 1 of 4

January 4th, 2010 Email This

Dan Catto is an old friend and another member of the Million Dollar per year club.  Two things… First, the interview was over an hour long so you’ll just get a small portion of it over the next 4 days.  The full interview (which I really hope you watch) will be aired on Friday.  Second, this was the second interview recorded via skype and, for some reason the audio levels were way off between me and Dan.  Mine are low and his are high, so you may struggle a bit to hear my portion.  Enjoy the interview and be sure to comment below!

Be coachable, keep it simple. Wonderful!
  • Brett
The fundamentals are so important! Some lady in my company was doing plenty of non-realated work.....I asked her how many people she had actually talked to and she said 0!!!
  • Soltansaid
добрый день всем спасибо Эрику за то что он делает это сильная работа а репортаж супер
  • aliceflanders
what a time to take a break. Glad I don't have to wait till tomorrow to find out what he said.
  • Miguel Cortez
The Basic is what make you special.... It the journy in which you can not quit... :)
  • InspiredDeb
I am willing to bet that most people cannot answer the question "What makes you special?" The truth is, we spend so much of our life energy feeling small, playing small, that we don't stop to consider the ocean of GREATNESS that lies within. If there is hope of bettering the average, often the first step is surrounding yourself with people who can support where you are going. Thanks Eric and Dan for reinforcing that powerful message, and for supporting us so well.
  • yitz613
Let's not forget we are the "average of the people we surround ourselves with....
  • Making my comment for the challenge...but since I am catching up I am skipping forward to the full Complete & Uncut version...Hope this counts and isn't cheating! LOL

PS...loved the comments I got to read...but holy cow, the challenge has sure got them rolling! LOL
  • Making my comment for the challenge...but since I am catching up I am skipping forward to the full Complete & Uncut version...Hope this counts and isn't cheating! LOL

Surround yourself with successful people and keep working hard. Got it! :o)

    Dexter Black
  • So true, but so many people don't get it, inside and outside MLM. Look at Twitter; how many people use it to stuff something down your throat. Try to do that at a real life party and see what happens. Twitter is no different than being on a party; take the right steps in the right order and you will succeed. Thake them in the wrong order and you will fail, online or offline.
  • yitz613
You guys are on the mark. And eing coachable is the one characteristic that is a must. The others are obvious (ie. burning desire, willingness to work ) if you are an entrpreneur.
  • Rubina
    Awesome....
  • meagankellytorres
Do what you know you can do for a few years building your business, so you can do what you want for the rest of your life! I love that! Pay the price now in getting out of your comfort zone, or you pay with you life at the end by being forced out of your comfort zone through no money or security and lots of stress!
  • Elaine Baril
"Willing to work hard, being coachable, teachable..." I'm willing and able! :)
  • Alex4nder
    That really make sense!

You are the average of the people you surround yourself with, simplicity, the basics, duplication.

    /A
  • Alfie
    3 Core Characteristics
    - Burning desire
    - Willingness to work
    - Being coachable

    3 Core Fundamentals
    simplicity
    the basics
    duplication

It's great to hear these things to great people, though it is being taught to us by our support line, it's a big help to hear it from the MLM Rock Stars. It makes the lesson more powerful.

I remember one of the seminars that I attended last year, the facilitator said "If you want to change your life, change your friends!" The participants all of a sudden got very silent. Reality bites.

    Thanks for another great show.
  • Transformationalhealth
You are the average of the Five People You Hang out with the most. Who you hang out with is very important to your business and your life in general!

The fundamental were great : simplisity, basics and duplication...

  • nelleke
It's interesting how easy and simple the business looks like. Yet it is good to hear that successful peolpe in netw.marketing also had to learn to change and let go what they'd learned in business. I understand it is importend to be around the right people. One can learn from them.
It's great again to learn our business has a simple foundation: 1. burning desire, 2. willing to work and 3. be coachable. Practice is important for this foundation too.

  • luigijr
fundamentals are the most important without them there is no success
  • ViktoriaGuerin
Good interview. I liked example of simplisity and duplication.
  • Calvin Boutilier
Hey, I'm just starting out in Network Marketing, but this is going to be a very informative process. Thanks for the challenge again!
  • I have not mixed with enough of the right people but I am getting better at it each day.
  • i'm not a read other than a short magizine article. i want to know how you feel about audio books.
  • jc13
You're not a write either. Dude, get your give-a-crap about your communication together. It is part of the package of who you are. Everything you do, say, write, signal, e-mote represents you. Make your best effort and you will find the invisible world supporting you will make its best effort, too.
  • alvinmerritt
DUDE! i dont understand what you're saying. i can take advice, but i will not tolerate being jumpped on. especially by a stranger.
  • something has gone wrong with me watching dans episodes the episode numbers are not matching up. i'm doing them in order but it shows the same coment for all 4 episodes. so this is for episodes of 3 i think.

KISS = keep it simple stupid, silly
  • jc13
Don't expect people to come to you to understand what you are communicating. The first effort has to be made by you. Dude, get your give-a-crap communication together.
  • jc13
My apologies Alvin. My comments were inappropriate.
  • i've also noticed the episode numbers are off starting with 211. is this one of your tricks. for the lack of a better word. i'm thinking back to the episode that you repeated for 2-3-4 days.
  • i'm a new generation MLM'er so i tend to use the social networks to try to recruit long distance maily and localy on occasions. i have beter luck with the face to face contacts even though i have the ability to get personal through e-mails and webcasting.
  • when your being taught to keep it short and sweet (elevator speach). how are can we start to build a friendship. where would you look if you dont know anyone, not making the money to get to know? everything i do is with broke friends like me?
  • Susan Peluso
Who you associate with is very important. Thanks for reminding me to keep things simple.
  • MarvinTowler
None of us is "special." However, we all are unique and that's what makes this business so tremendous, anyone can do it! I also love the conversation about the law of association, that's the same advice my mother beat into my head. "You're only as good as the company you keep."
  • Thanks for this Eric...
  • margarethockaday
Keeping things simple, duplication. Enough said. That is what must of new distributors need to learn and adhere to it.
  • karen and ian
We love the 3 spokes of the wheel analogy, thank you for that.
  • Grace2010
    Reposting. Please see previous post.
  • travelprohawaii
Thank you so much about the three things needed to succeed! I needed that!
  • jeanalbert
Great video! Get back to the basics is an excellent message. There are too many distractions as far as "new" ways on how to do our business.
  • mspaulamc
Fundamentals - Noun - principles from which other truths can be derived; "first you must learn the fundamentals"; "let's get down to basics"

My dad coached basketball at the junior high and high school levels for years and he contends to this day that the team that master the fundamentals will always win given the right coaching.

  • I won't get behind again.
  • this is a excellent video
  • Cortney
Be willing to work hard, be coachable & have a burning desire.
    Simplicity, basic fundamentals & duplication.
  • nikomachi
I am looking forward to the rest of the interviews to see how all this comes together
  • John Boyd
Excellent - a very sincere guy!
  • marvalouslife1
    Hey Eric,
i just watched it again. for the fourth time. great stuff. each time i learn something new.

    Ron Ackerman - Israel
  • MDungey
Keep doing the basics and surround yourself with the right people - great stuff!
  • pasiaalto
Great stuff about the basics. Thanks.
  • dterrell
Great interview, I can't wait to hear about the two core fundamentals!!!
  • genegrass
    Willing to work HARD!
    Three Keys for Success:
Focus on Simplicity - Don't complicate it. Keep it SImple
Basics - The fundamentals of the business
Duplication - Mother of skill is Repetition. ..doing it over and over and over again!
  • Krisi
I am so excited to start this challenge!!!!
  • alltheverybest
3 fundamentals - things that never change. Awesome.
  • 1. Burning desire.
    2. Willing to work.
    3. Be coachible.
    :)
  • I liked the cliffhanger- I;m going through the whole thing- seems like a fun interview!
  • Donna W
I can't believe Eric you are in my back yard and I had not heard of you, but now that I have I am ready. This series of interviews was how I was introduced to you. Thank you for what you are doing.
  • This interview shows that MLM is the better way simply put, you have time to have relationships with people and it is based on honesty and sharing which is nurturing to all involved. Thanks Eric, you rock!
  • As many others, not a professional from start, but grew and become a greater person, because he worked hard and do the same things over and over again. But with new tools. Simple, basic and duplicatable will be my focus forward...
  • Looking forward to the next interview! Thanks for putting faces on the professionals in this industry & showing the world that success is tangible.
  • DianaValdez
    2. Totally agree with the idea of being careful with the kind of people you are surrounded with. I have a lot of the not best ones and i started to cut heads already!
  • annenz
As a newbie, your daily sharings are food for us all. Huge thanks
  • mhewey
Good start of the interview, can't wait to hear the rest
  • neilclements
Awesome Content Eric....His Story Really Registers!
  • jlt0wn
Core characteristics - burning desire, coachability, work ethic - Same today as 22 years ago.
  • Eric Schindler
Still with ya! It keeps showing me as a guest even though I'm logged in, but I'll just keep putting my name and address down.
  • frankdiaz
ok watch it just geeting caught up!
  • I totally agree on the 3 skills needed. But we have to be very careful to do the right things, otherwise we will be printing "netwrok markoting" over and over.
  • ilkka
    simple is always nice:)
  • daddykekere
Surrounding myself with the right people. So simple yet profound. I am starting that right now. Thanks Dan and Eric.
  • guydrennan
Ok I am on the edge of my seat here.... the two things-what are they? Main things I got from this interview are: you must have all three, (burning desire, willingness to work, and be coachable) and the accelleration potential that exists today (faster rate of success available)
  • Vange01
    Eric,
That is very valuable information and certainly something that we sometimes tend to forget. Thanks
  • Edith Kohler
    thank you both,again
I will listen the whole interview tomorrow

    Edith

  • Veronica
AMAZING INTERVIEW!!! IT IS INCREDIBLE HOW PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE THAT PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT IS NOT JUST THE KEY TO SUCCES BUT A PATH TO SPRIRITUAL GROATH AND INNER PEACE!! IT IS A WAY OF LIFE!!! AND ONCE YOU START WORKING ON IT, YOU JUST SEE THINGS SO MUCH SIMPLER!!! AND YES LIKE DAN SAID, THE STUFF YOU LISTEN TO, THE STUFF U WATCH, THE STUFF THAT SURROUNDS YOU, WHO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH, DETERMINE THE PERSON U R!!!! LETS TELL THE WORLD!!! THANK U BOTH!!
  • BobbyRay
Great intro at the end. I'm rushing to the second half
  • BarryBurgin
Learn the basics. Work hard, Surround yourself with quality people, learn from them. Be coachable. Personal Development.
  • Keep it simple. Back to the basics.
  • Jessi
    Great stuff. Thanks!
  • etronics6
Awesome Eric & Dan! Thanks sooo far...going to listen to the next one.
  • nancyeldred
Another Great Morning Wake Up Call - thanks Eric
First thing - I start my day now, listening to your show
Puts me in the right state of mind

  • Whew - I have all 3 core characteristics- so we are off to a great start! Thanks for Part 1! Now, on to Part 2.
  • It's always good to be reminded of the fundamentals. All it takes to be special is the the core values:
    coachable,
    willingness to work, and
    burning desire
  • Danit
I feel that there is one word that can sum up this segment and it is discipline!!!
    Cannot wait for segment 2
  • So many nuggets of wisdom in this segment; made me want to listen more than once! Thanks!
  • Dan makes a great point in talking about finding people with a burning desire, work ethic and who are coachable. I learned that from running my mortgage company and inevitably the people who didn't have these failed miserably and always blamed someone else for their failures
  • mauricestaples
The fundamentals of getting back to the basics we should never forget this.
  • moisesbenaim
Working hard is the best and for me the only way to meet the goals...
  • KRT1
As a perfectionist, its difficult to NOT re-invent. Coachability and duplication just seem too easy... I'll have to work on that.
  • steveb22
I was always taught, when all else fails, go back to the basics.
  • Thank you for mentioning the fundamentals. I feel like I get caught up in trying to complicate things sometimes.
  • hcapcarp
    Great Interview
  • chiatkhor
Yes, I agree that surrounding ourselves with the right people is very important, because I experienced how bad it is when I was surrounded by the wrong people, that I stuck in this business. Until 1 day, I listen to a seminar cd and the speaker says, 'we gotta choose who we interact with everyday.' Of course he keep elaborate it. Since then, I start doing what he tells me, like Dan say, and I can see my life start changing bit by bit, and the world around me start changing too.
  • Oh this recording messed up.
I would love to know what got Eric
    laughing so hard!!
  • If it takes some one 30 years to reach their biggest goal in NWM
compared to say a career as a Doctor? Which one allowed time freedom?
    Of course! NWM did!!!
Regardless if a person cannot sell, sponsor, speak etc., the system is get the
people to the opportunity meetings, presentations, teleconference calls, or
in front of a video~~~ leverage the TOOLS! It is so simple to do.
  • Lisa
Something happened to the video. Do you have the end of the video? It messes up about 40 minutes into the session. I really would like to hear the rest. Thank you
  • Ben Alc
Spending most of the time with the right people will help us encourage and achive our goals. Another thing i love is the three things you must have it is just like a tripod without one of them it just fall.
    Great lesson¡¡¡
  • peterburrows
There's a raw objectiveness that comes accross from all you guys in the 'big' club. But then that is the case for all successful people regardless of their field.
It is kinda infectious and draws you in......
I konw who I want in my club....!
  • dstfa96
One of the most important messages I got from this interview is to make a special effort to surround yourself with the right people and I plan to do that in 2010 and going forward!
  • veronikakari
I appreciate that there was mentioned several times - "hard work", almost always it is said that this kind of business is easy.
  • Natalie
I really hate that this is broken up! I'm hanging on the edge of my seat taking notes and then ....... Ugh! On to the next section!
  • chipc
thanks for doing this interview. It's very timely for me.
  • danny7x
    Great stuff again!
  • amberaimshigh
Isn't it interesting that this is really so simple if we let it be....
  • Thanks for this lesson....for a new guy in the business like me, its very easy to get caught up in all the smartness in the technologie, but again what it comes down to is that we are a people business.... Love it :o)
  • marvalouslife1
watched it for the third time. it is just geting better and better.

    Ron Ackerman - Israel
  • jean_albert
May be a dup - Simplicity, Basic fundermentals, Duplication - GREAT INFO
  • Great info. thanks for all you do eric.
  • Luis (Pelon)
Who do you aknowledge is the correct people?
  • manalfakhoury
    Great job. Great advice.
    MF
  • wouterdeprez
I totally agree on the 'being teachable' thing... But what if your upline (who has serious business) always changes plan, changes way of working, changes the tools,.. ?? So you end up confused and don't know anymore what to do, do you still need to be teachable??
  • Eric, great content in Dans interview. Really appreciate you bringing different perspectives and experiences to us.
  • granttomkins
This has been my challenge over the last 10 years, hanging around the right people. Now i have relised who are the right people thanks to the personal development that i've done over the last two years since joining network marketing. Even if i never earnt a single dollar its been one of the single most life changing things i have done.
    GT
  • miguelcortez
What a Great open line.... What make you so Specail.... Love it.... make me feel that i can do this.. :)
  • miguelcortez
What a Great open line.... What make you so Special.... Love it make me fill that i can do this for sure.... :)
  • fredspencer
Spot on...Everyone needs to surround them selves with the right people. This is the place to hang out with the right people at NMPRO
  • Lorraine
I can so totally relate with Dan when he mentioned about hanging around with the wrong individuals. I feel that this where I am now taking control. I am changing the critieria of the individuals I want to work with.
  • Anthony Cannuli
    Eric,
Its nice to see the passion in dan's eyes! He was always and is a super nice guy, his training/coaching ability is off the charts my favorite interview you have done yet...WOW.
  • Anthony Cannuli
Split screen remote Eric, awesome concept!! Now you can interview more great leaders in our industry with out conflicting schedules. You took Network pro to another level:)
  • Margaret
Keeping things simple, duplication. Enough said. That is what must of new distributors need to learn and adhere to it.
  • billrogers
Great start! Looking forward to the rest of the interviews. 3 spokes in a wheel, what a simple way to describe whom we are looking for. The three things we need to focus on once we partner up keeps things so simple.
  • Cally
    Eric,
I hear the same things from hugely successful people in this business in how to grow and develop my business and it finally dawned on me why I am not one of them. My thanks to you and Dan for providing the space for me to deeply hear the message.
  • ockaren
I appreciate so many successful NMPros sharing their wisdom with me through this forum. I try to have that same generous spirit in my business. I like what he said about the mental enema, Network Marketing is a different beast!
  • This interview is going to be just what the doctor ordered
  • Thanks Eric & Dan for expanding on the 'getting back to basics' and discussing what those things are and not just saying 'go back to basics'. I think the hardest part of this business for people is ridding their minds of the need to reinvent the wheel and the thinking that they can do it better or differently.

Sorry I missed posting yesterday, I was laid up with this darned cold that is going around.
  • wgbeard
    Coachable is the key
  • staceylevin
Hi Eric, I'm reading Think and Grow rich and I love it! I have Strong Desire and persistence and its definetly very important!
  • enriquecaz
Hello people!... great first episode of Mr. Catto! I love when he says that he does what he did 20 years ago, not less not more... and that the current resourses and tools can make us achieve in our bussines in much less time, what he did some years ago... some of us are new in this profession and we have it ALL at our reach, but we are still winning. Let´s keep it SIMPLE, no more excuses to ourselfs!!!!

BURNING DESIRE... our comfort zone is always trying to putting it out. It SEEMS that ALMOSTonly people who has been in a very low situation in their lives are the ones who achieve their dreams and goals in this profession. Personally have to go inside myself and work more with mu burning desire.

I am WILLING to work, but my excuse sometimes is that my burning desire is not enough, and I stop working, that WILLINGNESS must be always I think, even if you are not so motivated I think.

I am COACHABLE!!!... but here is a dilema, you Eric, have said (and I agree with you in some way) that we must beindependent of our sponsor, who is not necesarilly our coach, but most of the times, we have our coach out of our reach, I mean, like you who most of the times are online, or other mentors who we don´t have vary next to us and we only hacve them on tapes, DVDs or recordings, I have´n had till now, a "personal-not-exclusive" coach, and I think some times is necesary. I feel some times I am alone, and all is starting just from me, and I have not to wait any help, you know what I mean?... well, seems I am winning Lol!!!...

Ok, enough for this show, I am going to check the next one!!!... Thanks Eric, thanks Dan!
  • Irina
I am very happy to be connected with the right people here! KISS! - keep it super simple!
  • Grace Alves
Even knowing that we are not alone, it is good to see people working to share their knowledge. Thanks for one more enterview and keep it going.
  • Coachability, Simplicity and Duplication - three of the most powerful words in network marketing!
  • andreabyrge
Being new to network marketing is probably an advantage in the coachability/teachability departments.I am always looking around the room for those people who can teach me something/anything I don't know. I am especially glad to see that so many experienced mentors are willing to coach and teach the rest of us. It is refreshing to be in a profession where this is the norm.
  • gloriavintila
"Surround yourself with the right people". At this point in my career, I realized that surrounding myself with the right people is crucial. It's not easy to get away from all the negative attitudes you come across every day. Entourage is not just some trendy TV-series, it is what you come across with constantly, daily, it's the people you hang out with and these people do have a big influence on our actions. Now, I like to believe I am conscious of that, and therefore I try to make a thorough selection of the people I spend my time with. But it's easy to fall into the trap again and go back to the party-only friends, or to the "everything is negative and my life is miserable"-friends. Beware of that.
  • janetsnetpro
Great Lessons! I'm amazed how simple the Pro's make it!
I wish I had had this training 9 mos ago!! Janet
  • If our job is not simple and basic then I would never be duplicable. Remember you downline is learning from you. If you overcomplicate the process with your skills then downline would not be able to duplicate it and the whole concept fails
  • lorijones
Coach-ability is key to new people being successful in your business! I can't tell you how many people make this business much harder by trying to reinvent the wheel. Thanks for this great interview with Dan.
  • drkay
This was a great idea... 100 days of learning from the successful in this industry. What a way to get started: Go back to the basics. Then telling us what the basics are. I've been learning for years but have not BECOME teachable. That's a choice. and the work ethics... I've heard them many times over, but without the Teachabilty... which is ALL my part... MY attitude... it just doesn't happen. And then "Burning" ... I think I need to camp there a while.
Thank you for this first part... and the "cliff-hanger"... thanks for putting the whole thing within arm's reach.
    Be Blessed.
  • feltricks
Absolutely right, looking backwards, I think I've had the three of them, but not at the same time.
That's what I'll be working all the year and teach to the people I am working with.
    Thanks Eric
  • nickgarrison
Burning desire, being willing to work and being coach-able are somethings I am going to use with myself as well as when evaluating people and how I proceed with prospect
  • John Spardella
One of the things that is helpful to me, is to continue to hear Jim Rohns words in my head, especially now. He would say in order to be successful in anything there are about a half dozen principles to learn. Once you learn these principles you can be successful in any business. I thought of this in part 1 because Dan and Eric were talking about the willingness to work, being coachable, and having a burning desire. Those things are true in order to be successful in anything.
  • ioana17
I am commenting again this time from my account!
great interview Eric, thank you very much.
Coachability it is not always easy...
  • Vonnita2010
These interviews are always an opportunity of growth.. I always keep a pen and notebook next to me... so 3 core characteristics... Burning desire... Willingness to work... Coachability... great!!! got it... next.... keep it simple... fundamentals and repetition... amazing... ready for 2nd part..
  • This is a GIFT sitting here in my kitchen with cup of tea, in front of my laptop, watching amazing shows, virtually saying "Hello" to all these great RockStars you interviewing and bringing to us.
    it's a GIFT !
And exactly Dan says - Today we have tools and resources which help us to make the business and learning process faster, simple and with much fun .
    Eric - thank you !
  • jeffhouse
Love it! Flush your brain of negative information and fill it back up with great information. Great interview and Keep it Simple!
  • Tony
Great opening question. And a great answer. Making that special effort to surround oneself with the RIGHT people is without a doubt one of the most important aspects of the business.
  • eugenejohnson
he mention something briefly about spending time with the wrong people i wish he would have talked a little more about that cuz thats a big problem for me....i sometimes catch myself wanting it more the team then they want it...so i kno i shouldnt spend so much time with them but some times i cant help it..its like a drug.... what do u suggest?
  • shif54
Keep it simple. i love it!
  • gmeyerson
I certainly have learned this past year the mistake of allowing negative people in my circle of influence and that has officially been corrected by the end of 2009, can already feel a huge difference
  • Ms.Gmeyerson = don't let Negative people / news / talks to surround you
Escape it by reading POSITIVE BOOKS,30 min a day at least :-)
  • gmeyerson
already doing that and cd's on the radio, thanks
  • Super great !
Lots of luck to you !
    where r u from ?
  • Carlos Perez
It's important that everybody understand that the core basic attitude people need are 1) A burning desire, 2) Be coachable, 3) Teach others.
  • jayvannostrand
great insights...love the cliff hanger ending...looking forward to the next installment!!
  • daddykekere
mental enemas. Simple yet true. i've been falling in and out of the basics. i simply need to stay on course. Thanks for the insight.
  • Roosevelt
I agree with keeping it simple, basic and easy to duplicate. A dud has to be able to talk to a stud and keeping it simple and basic will allow that to happen
  • John Coonley
Thanks. How hard it is to be coachable. It helps to hear it over and over again.
  • Vern Trabue
I thing that we all, from time-to-time, have a tendency to over simplify things. Well, atleast, I do! Thanks for the timely reminder to "keep it simple" and to surround ourselves with the "right" people.
  • carolmcwilliams
How many times I have heard keep it simple and yet my actions don't always follow this. I come from a psychology background and I put too much of my analyzing into my business. I will be more conscious this year on keeping my actions simple. Yes, it is so important to surround ourselves with positive people. My goal this year is to bring more people into my life that can inspire me and I do the same.
  • gmolina
Surrounding yourself with positive people and the right people I think is the most important thing one can do. Sticking with the basics and duplicating is amazing stuff.
  • gabor73
Thank you Eric for reminding the Basics!
  • dmholguin
Somehow I missed this first part of the interview but am glad I found it. This is great stuff. Thanks
  • Being in corporate most of my life, I also had to re-learn so many things when I got into network marketing.

I enjoyed this portion of the video and look forward to the next!
  • It is so true that this is called net"WORK" marketing!. Love the mindset of surrounding yourself with the proper people. There are too many people out there whether they are associates, friends and family who will try to shoot down your dreams etc and I have learned to: "Why would I listen to someone who hasn't done anything like we are doing and listen to them" Listen to those who are successful and follow their lead.
That is why I have been following you Eric since day one.
One of my other mentors continues to tell me "Keep it simple" - Basics, Simplicity and Duplication" are key.
  • lisabooth
I love that, a mental enema. Everyone needs that whether they come from any facet of the business sector, or like several of my team members, stay at home moms. We all have stuff in our brains that keep us from doing what we need to do!
  • BobandPam
Just a second check in to keep in the game. We had to reregister with Disqus under a different acct, so starting again. We already posted. Still great.
  • Anthony Cannuli
    Hi you TOO:) Great stuff..
  • Listening to your comments today, I realized that I needed to give myself a mental enema!
Today's gift has reinforced the fact that while I " think" I know it all, I really need to give up my past way of presenting and allow myself be coached by my up line and their leadership to present the opportunity and let the online structured, relevant, and informative, " demo" do it's job! I am back to three spokes in my wheel and feel that I am rolling a lot better on my way to a successful 2010.
  • cristiansolari
I think the fundaments are very important and so obvious, simple. I think I'm gonna mention this to the people of my team and my new prospects.
  • Ngoc Tran
My favorite point in this video is the saying “surround yourself with the right people”. For me, right people are the one who are positive most of the time, know how to motivate and want to see other to succeed. Thanks Eric and Dan for pointing it out!
  • lisamb84
Coachability may be crucial, but so is having the right coach. I came to network marketing as a cold lead, having no previous experience in the industry. While I adore my sponsor, I have had no success building the business using the same method she has. It's been a real challenge finding my way and finding a mentor who will work crossline with me. I would encourage everyone to make sure they're getting into business with the right person for them.
  • jc13
Good advice. Having mentors and workout partners hold each other accountable, pick one up when you've fallen, and celebrate your successes. Lifelong friendships are invaluable.
  • lisamb84
Thanks, JC! And totally agree about lifelong friendships!
  • JenniferDu79
He said it and you will here it from everyone in NWM keep it simple stupid. This business is simple but not easy. Sticking to the basics, no need to be fancy & Duplication, Leverage your time.
  • Stephen
Interesting, when Dan mentions core elements including burning desire, something I do not have in abundance and surely effects success. High level of belief is useful but not enough.
  • penaltybox1
I keep reminding myself I always have something to learn and to teach others and this keeps me humble and hungry.
  • breynolds
Burning Desire, Willingness to Work, and Teachability.

I think so many people burn out FAST because they are just not teachable. They have the burning desire to change their circumstances, and they get out there and start working hard, but they aren't working the RIGHT way, and they fail quickly. I have always believed that the primary responsibility we have as network marketers is not to sell, but to TEACH.
  • JON FORTI
SIMPILICY, BASICS, DUPLICATION . DAN, IS RIGHT THE TECHNOLOGY WE HAVE TODAY CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN IN WEEKS INSTEAD OF YEARS !
  • anitagwheeler
The fundamentals! Always back to the fundamentals. Thanks for the reminder!
  • Gakungu
Well said. Things that I have learned through network marketing have changed me. I am more tenacious and developed the sense of urgency. Talking to the right people and asking them what is working for them really helps in this business. And at all cost, do not reinvent the wheel because when it is done, one ends up in the VOD (Valley Of Death). Thank you Eric for all these modules.
  • I agree and hearing this again assists in staying focused. Thanks
  • Simplification and Duplication. I think those of us who are too smart in other areas complicate this thing when we should just KISS... Keep It Simple Superstar ;-)
  • I definately needed to hear this.
I'm going to send it to my downline because I think they need a little push to get them going.
  • gerritbronkhorst
Some people say: the fear of loss makes you work harder then the desire to gain. But after some negative experience I sometimes feel like I have a fear of loosing (again) in networkmarketing. Maybe you can sometime go deeper into this subject. I think I already heard a biggy: FOCUS. :)
  • jc13
I had a friend who I respected a lot and was even a general manager in a previous traditional business with me. He had been in Amway 20 years or more without getting the results he wanted. He read ever book, listened to every tape, and attended most events. He had a weekly mastermind group on Saturdays and went out like Jehovah's witnesses to recruit.

This year he quit. This year I got into network marketing. When I called to find out where he was at in life he said, "If this is about network marketing I don't want anything to do with it."

It gave me pause for a couple of days. What am I investing my time in? I had to ask my self if I believed in the industry, the opportunity, my company, etc. I can't do what my upline does as far as publicly creating relationships or staying on the phone for hours.

I ask my self the same question as you. I just decided I'm going to stick around until I find my way.

My friend is an exceptional human being. And an exceptional sales manager; companies beg for his consulting. I think his unwillingness to find his own way was his cost for success.
    This year he quit
  • Anthony Cannuli
Hi, sorry to hear about your friend. It would be a great loss to his family and our industry if he does not reconsider his decision. I have a "gut" feeling I could help him take the 20 years of commitment and help him make it bear fruit. My first company was amway as well over 25 years ago. I have had great success and some failure in the profession. After 18 years and a life threatening illness I took off several years from the industry. I believe god has blessed me within certain gifts that would allow me to empower him back on track with any company catches his passion and focus. Cant make any promises, would be willing to try. If you think I can help send me a email, travelwithchampions@yahoo.com.
  • Hi Anthony,

Thanks you tons for your offer.
I think the thing for me to do is have some success in this business before I call him again.

    Where are you from?
  • Anthony Cannuli
You sound like you really care about your friend. I have a "gut" feeling I can help him. It would be a loss to his family and our great profession if he quits for good. I spent the first few years of my career in amway and after almost 20 years with alot of great success and some failure took several years off. I believe I could help him. You are welcome to email me @travelwithchampions@yahoo.com. G
  • Make it simple!!!! Been my problem for a long time...
  • patrickmcfeely
Thank you for the push to get me going in 2010.
  • peterburrows
Rock'n Roll Paddi.....let's go for it....!
  • nateforrest
Looks like this is going to be a very special interview. Just like i teach my team and prospects, youve got to K.I.S.S....Keep it Simple Silly people.....always liked that better than "Stupid"....Thanks for the valueable content, Eric.
  • Mark_Abrahams
Learning to be. What a great year 2010 will be. Being professional!
  • susanjohannesson
I love to get this help and informatio. I am working on being coachable!

  • Ryan
Makes me think about what a friend of mine once told me: You can't soar with the eagles if you surround yourself with turkeys! You definitely are the company you keep.
  • germarl
A brilliant reminder of the basic principles for success in the industry.
    many, many thanks
  • Steve Weaver
Great stuff. I even got out my notebook and began writing!
  • Great first part!
  • Rossana Lopez
Being surrounded by the right people sure will help you to success and in a fastest way, but a good question would be... am I one of the right people for someone else? If not, what do I have to do to be
one of them so people would like to follow me? Being attractive to someone means to be prepared as commented in the interview, learning the basics and really make this simple to get it duplicable so
many people can see themselves doing this, making and being part of this amazing business.

Thanks a lot for the interview =o) just love them
    Rossana from Mexico :P
  • georgeman
Wow; the core needed characteristics, burning desire, willing to work, and being coachable. Keeping things simple is what I need to always practice. My burning desire many times keeps me up til 3AM, my new persistence is evidence of my willingness to work , and here I am notes in hand, downloading and reviewing everything you have available with an open mind and utmost humility. You guys give me a burning desire to want to teach others; I will, by my example. I must and will stay consistent, and I am overcoming my unfounded and illogical fears that attempt to keep me from rising to my potential. I can't wait to see the next video, thanks for the challenge and the superb mentoring.
  • mlvw
Purge the old thought process! Absorb the new like a sponge
  • Inger
This first part makes me realize how important those 3 fundamentals are and I really spent to much time with 'potential', that's specially hard when those people with potential are your closest friends!
  • beckydesabah
If I lack one of the three components of the fundamentals, I won't make it . . . and since I am determined to succeed I will review all and find out which one is not strong enough.
  • Inger
After seeing this interview you really want to see the next part!
  • martinvf
To me it's been hard to leave the people close to me that doesn't bring me value to help me move forward to where I want to be.
Master Yoda would say "Learn to let go what you are more afraid to lose", I know, I need to reprogram myself.

How can I keep some work/activity simple if I was programed/educated to learn something complex in order to make more money than others???
How can I stay in the basics if I was programed/educated to reinvent the weel to show others I'm "more inteligent" than others???
How can I duplicate if I was programed/educated to keep all the secrets with me and even die with them so no one can "steal" my job???

I know the answer is REPROGRAMMING MYSELF... just wanted to share my thoughts. =oD

    Great interview... so far =o)

    Tks Eric

    Martín V. (Aguascalientes, MEXICO)
  • I'm trying so hard to teach my team these fundamentals. I'm looking forward to becoming a successful network marketing professional.
  • KeithN
I have not always surrounded myself with the right people. When you become the average of the people you spend the most time with and they are not exceptional people, that usually means the harvest that you reap from life is usually more average, than exceptional.
I think for new people in Network Marketing, many of them receive conflicting information on what the "fundamentals" of the business are. Now with all the many resources and tools available, it can get confusing or even overwhelming, and easy to lose sight of the simplicity of the fundamentals.
  • jc13
Well my friend you are surrounding your self with the right individuals now.
  • Classic information about the law of association. I remember learning this back in '01 or '02 and I have thought of it often. I seem to be able to rid my life of the wrong people pretty well (there's always room for improvement) but finding the "right people" to let in or find is not as easy.

In reading some other posts, I am not sure if some viewers are grasping the importance of association. A simple example of this is I come from a restaurant background (I manage the family business) and have always wanted my own restaurant. I have two friends that I have known for a long time and neither of them has accomplished much in their life; working long hours for someone else, driving junker cars, not able to own their own home, etc. I know that if I had 5 close friends who owned their own restaurant and I was the only one who didn't, I would feel like a slacker and be MUCH more motivated to do something about it. But when you are "doing better" than your closest friends, you think that things are just fine the way they are.
  • janetsnetpro
Eric, I had to listen to all 4 interviews with Dan Catto.
It was fabulous and full of amazing nuggets of valuable secrets for success in network
marketing. Coming from Corp America, he was the perfect subject to listen to.
I can keep my business much more simple now, and feel it will be successful.
Thank you so much for all the great guests and amazing information!
    Janet
  • janetsnetpro
    Dan grabs my attention!
Thanks for breaking it down to understand the basics.
I now will loose the Corp Crude!
    Thanks sooo much!
I can see my mistakes...with the "wrong people".
    Love this!

  • If I Did What I Had To Do

If I did what I had to do For a Few Years I will be in a position to do Whatever I Want to do for the Rest of My Life.

The Time-tested Fundamentals are always the same:
    • Have a Burning Desire
    • Establish a consistent Work Ethic
    • Be Coachable - Be a Learning Maven

Make a Special Effort to surround your self with the Right People.

Too often we spend too much time with the wrong people. You are a busy person and people need to qualify themselves in order to spend time with you.
    • Are they as motivated as you are – do they have a Burning Desire?
    • Are they doing something Every Day -Are they taking the Right Actions?
    • Do they just need some guidance and coarse correction – Are they Learning?

You can be a giant if you’re a dwarf if you’re standing on a giant’s shoulders. Meaning, if you haven’t got a Vision for your Self, borrow someone else’s Vision. Giants have Big Visions and Big Dreams.

Rid your self of your corporate habits and belief systems.

Keep it simple. Stick to the fundamentals and duplicate. Rinse and repeat.

    Two core Fundamentals are:
    • Get the Product out to as many people as you can.
    • Get as many people as you can to review the Opportunity.

    Don’t Quit. Never Give Up.
    • Make a List and add two people every day to the List
    • Contact and Invite your List to review the Opportunity
    • Present the Opportunity and Ask Questions. Ask for the Sale
    • Create additional Exposures and always Follow-up
    • Get Prospects to Events for Social Proof

If you are unable to Retail, Recruit, Train, or Present – the one skill to develop then is to become a World Class Promoter by doing these two things:
    • Get people in front of the Opportunity
    • Get people to try the Products.

Promote the Results, not the ingredients.
    Provide a Demonstration, not information.
Ask people to take The Next Step.
Leverage the Team, the Presenters, and the Opportunity. Leverage Internet resources.

    Pay The Price

Traditionally, Paying the Price meant 3-5 years of getting it wrong until you Get It Right.
Or 3-5 years of Consistent Effort until other Leadership built their business strong.

Today that time frame can be a few months to a year if you are doing ALL the Fundamentals and use Leverage. Develop Leaders.

Don’t take the Opportunity for granted. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Don’t wait for your own “9-11” meltdown before you take action.

Traditional business is downsizing white-collar America. Many corporate Americans haven’t earned a Six-figure Income as we see in this industry let alone a Six-figure Monthly Income. Go to the Events. Meet the Six-figure Diamonds and Learn to Shine.

Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first lesson that ought to be learned; and however early a man's training begins, it is probably the last lesson that he learns thoroughly. - Thomas H. Yep! This episode reinforces something that is finally sinking in for me.
Hanging out with the right people.

Thank you Eric for this! I can't wait to see the other two parts. Just to keep it simple! Plan your days to accomplish a certain number of actions a days. And just keep repeating it until the job gets done :)
  • Great information & I am glad to see there are some who do not come out of the shoots like gang busters. KISS - Keep It Simple Silly & do not quit... It seems i have to retrain my mind and remove the "education" I recvd in school.
  • luciabrazell
I have always being willing but never had the desire or wanted to be coachable but now I know the importance of this 3 basic things and without them people like me get lost and so do our dreams so glad to hear about this i really like how simple you keep videos it is so easy to understand Thank you
  • ishapkina
great to hear about 3 basics, i am glad I got it, just have to keep going!
  • barryburgin77
It seems to always be 3 core issues of some kind...but the basics, the fundamentals, are so important. Also using the tools and resources you have without forgeting the personal touch is very key. The internet is the most dynamic tool for network marketing but you cannot ignore relationship building. Thanks Eric.
  • albertoleal
I do agree that surrounding with the right people is necessary to succes. Working with that people allows you to achieve easily and faster your goals.
  • Tarashon Broomes
Dan talked about some key things which i agree is very important in building your business. I agree with the point that you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with and that you have to surround yourself with the right people. in other words you need to become the person you want to attract. Dan is completely right when he states that you have to be teachable, coachable and have desire and that they all work together. you can be very teachable and coachable but if you do not have any desire, its pretty much pointless, you cant really achieve things in life without some desire
  • ishapkina
Great to hear about 3 basics, yes, I have it!!! Just have to keep going
  • SushiEatingMentor
Very insightful. How often we make this business hard.. keep it simple. Know how to duplicate!! Looking forward to next part!! Thanks Eric
  • This is Great! I went to #. 163 to complement what I heard today. It's funny how it's not the same thing to understand a concept as it is to own it. That is why it takes more time for some of us to become successful people. I can feel a new me struggling to blossom into a network marketing professional. Dan Catto is so down to earth and easy to understand! It is so much easier to trust all the wonderful people that work in this business when you make the introduction. Thank you, Eric.

Hi Eric and Dan, I had to listen to the 1 st lesson 4 times before I would comment and will do 4 more times. 1 st thank you and 2 nd after taking notes I see you talk about the 3 keys to being on your way to be a pro, I counted 6 and I know there is more. I feel when we have what it takes and I am sure there is a lot more, we have to be truthful with ourselves and set up real goals time wise in building our business. A tradesmen takes 4 years of schooling to be at top pay. So I only have 4 years left. See you tomorrow
And thank you all Mikey from Las Vegas

Burning desire- have this one down
Work ethic- I will do whatever it takes as long as it is moral and ethical
Coachability- I need a coach. I am hoping that I can learn from all of the wonderful people you interview and yourself. I am definitely learning everyday. I coach myself the best I can but most of the time I don't know if what I am doing is right or wrong.
    Can't wait until tomorrow

I'm reading this book from Tim Ferris (check him out on facebook and his blog) called The 4-Hour Workweek and he teaches how you can 'cut' the fat of workload but many practices, specially delegation. I find MLM fits right in there with his philosophie of life. By building an MLM company, we set ourself free for time :)
  • Dan Catto said "If I did what I had to do for few years.. with right people.....I could be on posission to do what I want to do for rest of my life..." It so great! It so right! Thank you

A burning desire, a great (good?) work ethic, and teachable. Got to get out there and do it. Simplicity and the basics = duplication. Repetition with minor corrections = success, not only for you but for others that join you on the journey.
  • beetally
Yes....I would also like to hear the rest of the interview. Being in the first year of my business I am eager to learn from those who have been working hard for the past years. Great info, can't wait for the rest of the interview!
  • As for me I have to constantly remind myself about simplicity. It's odd how we sometimes tend to make basic things so complicated. Thank you for reminding about simplicity which makes the process duplicable.

  • Well what a fabulous interview...have listened to it twice today and done a google search..amazing how you connect us to so many truly talented achievers..I'm from Toronto, Don is from Toronto...and I haven't heard of him or of his company before now....! Well done. So here we go on the uber challenge!

To alcamacho: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Mr. Eric Worre - I look forward to more of the interview.

    (2 down, 98 to go)
  • jennyc
Commitment to the 3 basics, very important. Let's hope it sinks in.
  • Jim Thompson
Eric - It always gets back to the basics and just doing a few thing correctly on a consistent basis.
  • alcamacho
Mr. Catto spoke about the people you surround yourself with. One of my mentor ask me to write down the names of the 5 people that I speak to the most every day. See what these 5 people are doing with their lives and where are they going. If you do not want the same, then you need to find new people to talk to.
Awesome! It’s very important to be coachable and to be surrounded by the right people.
  • a253364
looking forward to tomorrow's segment. Thanks Eric!
  • mchalk
As with so many things in life, the premise of keeping things simple (KISS pricipal - keep it simple stupid) is really important. Too often people feel the need to say more than is necessary;often less is more. Good interview and looking forward to the rest.
  • randyhendrickson
I learn something from everyone of your shows. Thanks again for all you do
  • gjt
there is so much to learn we look forward to new information to help form the right kind of thinking thanks
  • Ellis3
Ok ... that was spot on Dan/Eric! I think all of us who post will say the same thing in different ways. I will sum it up using the words of the "Greatest Networker" ... "In order to achieve the success you desire, it will not come from what you 'know'. It will not come from what you 'think you know'. Your success lies in 'what you don't know that you don't know'."
  • randers1
Surrounding yourself with the right people is major; I’ve noticed that if I hang around complainers and moaners long enough I become one. The same is true with successful people. Keeping it simple with one word, EFFORT. A dwarf can be a giant if he’s sitting on his shoulder, haha perfect analogy.

Work hard doing what? fundamentals basics of the business: 3 core characteristics, burning desire, work ethic, coachability/ teachability. All 3 are a requirement. Search through as many others as possible. starting a relationship is if i do... than will you do... follow through.

Focus on simplicity, the basics, and duplication.
  • racingworm
Dan sums up alot by saying " surround yourself with the right people." Just that one thing can take you to the top of the game in anything you do.
The good old "kiss" method seems to be the hardest as it seems it's a lot easier to come up with an excuse as to why something doesn't work when it's too hard ,other than it's really simple. Kiss ( keep it simple stupid), something i'm trying to do.
  • Jose Lopez
Looking forward to second part tomorrow. Personally, besides the burning desire, being coachable and willingness to work, I think a fourth element is key: willingness to work with people, teamwork. I have seen people that have plenty of the first three elements, but are so centered in them selves that can't make progress in the industry.
Eric, thanks so much for the challenge. For the first time I watch an episode with full attention, without answering emails or talking in the phone at the same time.

    Hi Eric,
I can relate to Dan about flushing your mind out, I also had my own business in corporate america. Now I really need to flush my mind out because i see places were i am doing the same things that didn't work, So I will be looking at what was working and get rid of what is not working and start looking forward and not put the brakes on to look back. These fundamental stratigies are excellent and simple. Thank you
    Sincerely
    Julie Hawkins
  • Thank you Eric for giving me the opportunity to learn from this highly successful Network Marketing icon, Mr.Dan Catto. I really agreed that in order to success in our business, only we need to focus on the fundamentals and three qualities which are Simplicity of business, stick on the basic fundamentals, and the third one is duplication, thank you Dan and Eric for having us this wonderful information, waiting for the next episode. regards, Rajeev Sreenivasan, Oklahoma city, OK, USA

Fantastic reminder..Keeping it simple and repetition creates duplication. Look forward to Part 2 Eric! :)
  • Eric, great interview so far...I look forward to tomorrow. I'm making notes.
  • Robin Morgan
When in doubt always go back to the fundamentals! As leaders we should never forget this, but it's easy to get caught up in new methods & technology. It's important to stay current but integrate not substitute!!

Thanks Eric, for this challenge!! I believe this challenge also teaches us to be leaders with Integrity. When you take it upon yourself to commit to something so it can help you help others build better lives, that builds integrity within yourself...:)
  • dougharkins
Burning Desire, coachable, duplicatable, work hard. With my mentor and you on my side I will succed!
  • SJ Doug
Burning desire, coach-able, willing to work and I would also add patience to this list.
  • ericworre
    Yes, patience with urgency
  • I like the pace you set, keeping focused on the fundamentals.
    Looking forward to tomorrow's show.
  • socorro
thank you Eric i I love it
  • Robertdiggsjr
Burning desire, coach-able, willing to work!
  • Being new to the business invaluable advice for the start of 2010...'surround your self with the right people'.....'simplicity-basics-duplication'....thank you !:)
  • Love the skype plug-in, what is it? Oh, the content is great btw ;)
  • ericworre
Google "skype call recorder for mac" $20 bucks
  • Great kick off for us newbies! Looking forward to the whole enchilada!
  • Magdalena
From this episode I appreciated the idea that if we are willing to do what we have to do for a few years we can do what we want for the rest of our lives.
  • Art D.
Love the first one ! Very compelling ,I'll have to listen to that again and again, keeping it simple....
  • Zeissy
Fundamentals of the business are essential but The Right People are the Key... At list I think so... Great show! Thanks!
  • rayrios
Youy are kidding right..You mean I have to wait one more day for the 2nd part. Most of us miss the point of Repetition. Mr. Catto hit the nail in the head,"Repetition Is The Mother of Learning"..Thank you Eric for providing this educational forum. We all will be winners as these episodes progress.
  • Pam and Bob Madura
Oh man, you left us hanging for those two points...smart, very smart!
  • Dylan Cooper
I find it so important to keep things simple as that drives duplication. Prospects always picture themselves doing what you are doing and ask themselves if they can do it. So the business is to them, whatever you are doing in your approach and presentation. So simple things are duplicatable.

I've finally caught up after being away from a PC over Christmas. Woohoo!

    Dylan.

  • dlinkhart
You've left us in suspense. I was getting ready to write down the most important thing to do and poof! the interview is over for today! How clever! See you tomorrow! Dani
  • CarlosVera
Dan's analogy of the weel's spokes and the fundamentals was just great! I can't wait to hear what are the two core fundamentals Dan was just about to mention......................

    Carlos
  • sbratt
I watched the 4 chapters, they are great. Thanks for sharing the interviews.
  • I've always had the desire and willing aspect down, i think I'm on the brink of conquering the teachable part....
  • Amazing to see the number of comments. How many do you think will really do this for 100 consecutive days?
  • ericworre
Hard to guess. This is a pretty special group. But 100 consecutive shows is a serious challenge for most. What do YOU think?
  • I agree, hard to say, but my guess is about 20%.... Will be interesting to see!
  • denisekay
I know we can! Key word is Will we. Do we have the Burning Desire to Do this? My answer is YES!
If not this, What, If not Now, When.
  • juanpablorico
Amaizing!!! Eric, were can I find more information abaut the asociation law? I mean, there is something wraiting? This tool belows to Master Rhom? I love this flash. Let´s do something to the spanish lenguage people!!! Thanks
  • ericworre
    Episode #95 under personal development
  • Dee_Canada
Now that's a cliff hanger!! lol

I like the three spokes. It's great visual imagery to express how essential all three components are. I can't wait to hear the next segment.

Personal challenge-surrounding myself with successful people. This is something that I will be working on.
  • So true. Laws of Association is an important factor. Recently, I made a move to another city just to break some associations, and I'm much better off because now I have surrounded myself with positive people and successful entrepreneurs. I love this industry! Successful people are willing to help you and have a vested interest, but many also love watching people grow in their success and personal development. I find it hard to believe that technology will EVER replace relationships.

    Great content Eric,

    David Walker
  • david_high
I am new to this industry and this looks like the right information at the right time. I am looking forward to a successful year.
  • tomlacey
The need for each of the three attributes must be present for success. Similar to the three legs ona stool.
  • tylerwhite
Great interview, these interviews are ways for us to surround ourself with people that are doing the business right. Thanks
  • denisekay
Can't wait to here the additional TWO THINGS we need to know in tomorrow's show.
    My word for today: implement.

Song for the day: Burning Love (Elvis).. Turning the Love to Desire
Thanks for the heads up on the audio issue, that my friend was helpful. Also many thanks for sending the show at the begining of the day.
  • ericworre
    a hunka hunka :)
  • I'm new to MLM. The fundamentals, I think I've got those 3 basic characteristics. The right people to be surrounded with, I need to work on that... The shift may be gradual but I'm sure when my perception and attitude change, people I attract around me will be different as well.
  • jbledsoejr
Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals! So important...a mentor of mine uses the analogy of fielding routine ground balls. How does a baseball player become a gold glove winner? By practicing fielding routine ground balls day after day after day. The don't go out and practice making diving or spectacular plays...they field basic ground balls and repeat it. Great interview...I'm looking forward to tomorrow's show!!! Thanks Eric & Dan!
  • Great to see you on here Jackie. We need to get together.
  • Mark (Germany)
ok, I watched today's show 6 times now .. ;) - it's 00.23 here in Germany at the mo, I spent over 2 hours today on my network - stepping stones and now the "normal" - life stuff just needs to get done, so I don't fall behind on that as well - like my accounting - .. that's what I mean .. the basics sound easy .. my challenge is to somehow get everything done in one day .. finding enough basics and simplicity to be effective consistantly is the door I want to open .. any comments, guys and girls of the matrix ? ..
  • Excellent point Dan makes; "I´m not special - I made special effort". A lesson to be learned by everybody who wants to be a NWN pro!
  • JeffLaChappell
Great interview, looking forward to the rest of it.
  • Arnold Thompson
You're Killing me Eric!!! :-) "there are 2 core fundamentals and they are..." man I can't wait until tomorrow. Listening to the real pros who have achieved the level of success that I desire is priceless. Thank you again for all of your insight and for conducting all of these interviews, I get great info out of all of them. One thing that always encourages me is the fact that many of them didn't have a lot of education prior to getting started which really proves that fact that anyone who has a burning desire, a good work ethic, and is teachable/coachable can succeed in this business.
  • diamondscents
Someone said there are no new truths, just old truths repeated in new ways. Same goes for the fundamentals it seems. I hope they never change.
  • Robbin
Surrounding yourself with the right people I learned immediately. And surprisingly so did my 21 year old son. It was a proud moment when he told me "Mom I have to find new friends" He gets the business!
Thanks for listing the fundamentals, I'm looking for people and this will help.
  • Mark (Germany)
This year is gonna be different I said to myself. New. I had good momentum in Oktober & November 2008, again in May, June, July in 2009. Why ? I just put my network appointments at Nr. 1 and built everything else around it, having all sorts of normal stuff to do every day as well. Today for instance. I set this motto, (which I had every time I had momentum): talk to 2 people a day. I rid my home of stuff today, which has been lying around and has not been touched for 2-5 years and I have been wanting to allow the time to clear it out for so long .. I put daily life things like these on hold for some whiles often in order to keep focus on networking and building. These are just examples of many other themes in a day. I cant really focus on 10 different main things daily, consistently. I'm still building my network part time. I missed my goal of contacting two really new people today. I missed it yesterday. And the day before. I coached some of my firstlines, yes. I supported an event as sponsor yesterday, yes. I supported an online call today, yes. I spoke to my sponsor, yes. But I missed my two new ones !! - for 3 days in a row now ! I'm getting uneasy. Now that could be seen as the not so good part. The good side is: I document closely, so I can adapt after 3 days and not after 3 months. Keeping it simple is vital. Keeping the right people surrounding me is vital. Thats why I'm here every day. I watched this show today 4times. I do catch myself working on inventing the wheel anew often enough. The fundamentals are simplicity, basics, duplication, understood. Now, being a relationship expert demands the ability of being individual with every person. My challenge is finding the right moment to draw the line between not inventing the wheel anew and being individual enough, so new partners can identify their way and the fun is kept alive. I keep bending and twisting, till it fits with everyone. Call it healthy adaptation ? Count on me giving you the 100 comments till show 309 ! This show has been a great support ever since its beginning. Thank you, Eric. See you in Rome. Kind regards.
  • jc13
Hey Mark - reading your post is inspiring. At least you are drawing the line in the sand.
  • bghcancun
i´m searching the right people, i will not stop until i do!
  • ericworre
    The right person is YOU
  • Bernadette
Surrounding myself with the right people is very important. I have only a few people in my upline that have made it to some of the lower levels, then there is a big gap right to the top. On the right of the right of the right. That is why I was so happy to find network marketing pro to fill in where some of the upline is missing. Thanks Eric.
  • cherisizzles
I love having lists of 2-3 things that successful people can tell us beginners to do. I'm a list person, so I write these lists in big bold lettering and put them on my wall so I can see them everyday as a reminder when I lose my focus or my resolve. Thanks!!
  • donpinger
Fundamentals never change and I'm thankful for it. Only with the folks mining the miners would learn that!
  • bobmeguyer
It's good to break things down into 3 so people will remember easily and also to deliver.
  • Darnell
Glad to know by maintaining the three fundamentals along with the relationships with others intact we can continue to succeed and prosper in this industry!! Looking 4ward to the next portions to come. Thank you so much!!
  • bobbihorne
It's a great lesson to learn that we often spend the most time with the wrong people. Looking forward to the rest of the interview. Thanks as always Eric!
  • Earl
I like the question "what makes you special?"... Love the answer though. I think that many more people need to be asked that question... It could help more people become better!
  • Jim
A burning desire which I have, I am allowing myself to be coached(that's not as easy as it sounds when you are used to doing it by yourself).
  • You have an awesome network Eric of whos who in the biz ;)
  • magnelordahl
Thanks for part one of this interview. We are part of those we have as friends. I think it's important to see this in your own life. Best of all to learn from those who have success. Also important to learn to use tools properly. I think that my business is where I am in knowledge. So I have to educate myself more.
  • Burning desire, work ethic and the coachability!!!
  • roberthirabayashi
I've been putting various signs out for over a year. Some for business, some for products. Put out signs early this morning and got my first customer from signs I put out a couple of weeks ago!
  • Hi Eric.

I'm already enjoying the journey of the next 100. I was hearing to the show and typing some notes in the text box. And things sink deeper.

It's funny how Dan hasn't talked about the need for results to get it to work. I've been depressed about mine for the last 18 months and didn't put the effort to push forward. I've definitely been sorrounded by the wrong people.

    Thanks for the 1st stop.

    Big hug,
    JD

    Here are the notes:

Burning desire, work ethic and coachability... become very teachable. You have to have all 3 to get there. The relationship aspect of our business. Willing to work hard doing what? Simplicity, the basics and duplication. The mother of skill is repetition... Doing it over and over again that leads to duplication and getting paid while you're asleep.
  • mariasiro
Hello! Yes it really is something to think about , what kind of people you are sorrounded with. And yes, being coachable is a thing I will be talking about with my people!
  • Hi Eric,
I am accepting your challenge. Thanks for the video feed. Yes, having a burning desire, work ethic, and being coachable is very important.
  • Understanding leads to Urgency... Urgency leads to Effort.... Effort not only out of wanting... but out of knowing ... knowing from gut feeling ..... which is commonly know as Passion
  • talya_mitzafon
I defenatly agree that In order to achieve great success you have to be surounded by the right people. people who can encourage you, see the best in you and believe in you.
In his book "Think and grow rich" Napoleon Hill is talking about "Gainig power through the Master Mind".
"No individual may have great power without availing himself of the "Master Mind".
  • Fantastic interview! Grow your business and grow yourself every day!
  • classy70sgirl
How true it is that you are only as successful as the people you surround yourself with! I'm feeling like a fish out of water amongst my current friends, so one of my main goals this year is to actively go searching for, surround myself with and build relationships with highly successful people. I look forward to the other 3 parts of the interview!
  • Thanks Eric, I can tell that this is going to be interesting!
  • bjrgditlefsen
I am 100% agree, who you spend your time with is important for your success
  • One thing I learn from when you interview people is how to go deeper with questions. You don't leave it just at the surface. I think that's a great lesson for any conversation.
  • I agree wholeheartedly. I am finding that I am not having so much of a lapse in Great associations, as not having enough direct associations in general. I live back up in the rocky mountains of CO. an hour from the closest town, so I tend to work from home on computer & phone, but don't get in to town and associate with team & others near enough. I know I need to and still am lazy in that regard. I always enjoy the company when & Once I am in town and around these folks., so there is really no excuse. I tend to use distance as an excuse. Thanks for pointing this out.
  • latachia_2
You are the same income as the people you are around most! And stick to the basics& keep it simple!Great lesson,Eric as always. You're right,I had to turn up the sound for you& back down for him.
  • onemartymac
Burning Desire, Willingness to work, and being Coachable. So simple to follow and get started. Keep your sense of urgency high is the key and the best way I found to keep it high is to surround yourself with people who are also ready to run who have High Integrity.

Thanks and can't wait for the next 3 parts!
  • JoeSalsero
Hi Eric ! I accepted the challenge. Like Dan Catto says I have to be coacheable, and I have to keep this simple and basic. That´s why I understand that I have to make some changes, in order to change my results. Thanks for been my coach!
  • TerryGracy
    Great beginning.
    What is work ethic?
Never confuse activity for achievement. Work smarter, not harder. Listen to Eric!
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
Hi Eric, What does mister Catto (and yourself) mean by 'surrounding yourself with the right people'?
    a) is it looking for new 'fishing ponds' where we find our new team-members or
    b) spend more time with positive/like-minded relatives/friends (even if they are not interested in our business)
    just to stay healthy-hearted
Also I agree on the 3 skills needed in this business, but owhhh... we forget so fast... thanks for reminding us. S.
  • tenayagarrett
    Like always this was great!
  • denagottlieb
I actually connected with what Dan said about being willing to do what he HAS to do now in order to be able to do what he WANTS to do afterwards.
That resonated with me as I'm willing to really put my nose to the grindstone for the next couple of years!
Of course, I'm also trying to surround myself with the right kind of people. This is crucial for the success of my business and my energy level!
  • Great interview! Love to listen to successful people.
  • turjcxg
Talk about keeping us in suspense!!!

Eric, I want you to know that I watched this show but my two little girls also watched the show too. I asked them to watch especially because you and Dan talked about the Law of Association -- this is such an important idea I want them to absorb.

Thank you again for the information. Yes, I think I've gotten caught up in the tools/resources vs. the business fundamentals. Thank you and Dan again for the reminder!

And yes, I will be here tomorrow for the 2 things!
  • Layla
My goal is to become a network marketing professional.
    Then first: Law of associations.
if calculated on who the five people with whom I spend most of time, how my children will be taken into account?
What about those people whom you tell about your business?

    Layla
  • MagnusEdvald
I liked when he spoke about the urgency he felt. It is important for people to start with a sence of urgency.
  • greatskin
Pick your friends, pick your business partners!
  • jnunez
I really like the thought that you do not need be special to succed, you only need to make a special effort to succeed. I also confess that I had to go through the "mental edema" too
  • lynnhall
I agree you should surround yourself with positive people. Also the Simplicity, Basics and Duplication is very important.
  • Jilliangene
Because of this business and conversations like this I am now acutely aware of the people around me and their motivates. In the past and still now, I would "give of my heart". I would never see that the peoson does not have my best interest and/or would blame myself when something didn't go well. Now I am hearing the people around me and being selective on the information allow in. It is still really painful to realize friends and family (maybe because they want to protect me) for whatever reason would sabotage my success or watch me to do it to myself and enjoy my need for their help.

It is reassuring to hear it again from you and Mr. Catto - keep focus, have strong leaders/mentors/special people around you, share the good news, and move forward with each daily lesson or triumph.

    Thank you

  • paulsoto
thanks guys. back to the basics !
  • Cindy Dower
Ok, Burning Desire, Willingness to work, and being Coachable. Check. Now for those next two things...Also I am assessing the people that I will be spending the most time with: You, Eric are at the top of the list. I have been through most of the previous 200 videos, but I plan to go back through them. Thanks for being in my circle!
  • ericworre
    You're welcome Cindy! :)
  • Dan mentioned not "reinventing the wheel" something I need to constantly remind myself of. Former teachers are so used to recreating things. Audio levels were a little off but I still could hear just fine.
  • liora
100% agree with Dan Catto. We need to be surround by special people. Eric I'm with you.
  • eddyoshaughnessy
Looks like this will be another great interview - " spending too much time with the wrong people " sounds familiar
  • Eric, you have asked a very important question " what does hard work mean" ? I hope there will be a discussion on that point.
  • MLM is not easy to do in the right way. I say that as a newbie ;) Looking forward to the next episode, Eric .....:)
  • Emmanuel
Great interview. It is so important to stay in the game. The longer you stay and keep taking actions the more you will figure it out. Another thing is to master the basic which is ironic because I was listening to im Rohn Challeneges To Succeed and he was saying the samething. One important thing I have noticed among the top incomes is that their income go with how long they been in the industry. One more point to keep in mind is not just to hangout with the powerful people in your comp but to also recruite powerful people. I have recruited alot of people but the wrong people. So it is very important on the business side to look for people with certain qualities and on the products sell it to anyone who wants it. I have become so selective on who I recruite on the business side because of my experience of people wasting time(the truth is that not everyone can do network marketing. It is not for everyone just like how every profession is not for everyone. So we should stop preaching to people how everyone can do this because thats a lie and misleading). Thanks Eric great interview.

My wishes t o everyone is that you challenege yourself more this year than ever

"dont be a follower be a student

    Emmanuel
  • Great insight in this short clip of what I expect to be another great interview. I hope everyone noticed the cliffhanger at the end leading to tomorrow’s show. That exactly what we all need to do in our businesses give just enough so that our prospects want more, then get them to a presentation.
  • Denise Cox
I my!! What time do I need to wake up tomorrow to get the two things!!! AHHHH I'll be thinking about it all day!

  • Tsafrir
Eric. it is so important to remember basics
  • Being new to the business, this information is very valuable. I can't wait for tomorrow, to hear the 2 core things people need to get started.

I know I need to surround myself with the right people, in doing this how do I find a good coach?

    Thanks!
  • Yes!!! This stuf is HOT my friend. The way Mr. Catto talks....with power is fantastic. Really good information to the people in our profession. Thanks Eric, regards from your biggest fan.
  • ericworre
I appreciate your support so much
  • Steve Johnson
Funny how, the more things change, the more they stay the same. In times of change most of us forget to do the things that made us successful, and like a good coach will tell the team during rough times, let's get back to focusing on the basics. Thanks for the reminder.
  • AdvocareJax
That wass a great reminder. It is so easy to get excited about getting someone started up that we can forget to qualify our prospects with those three characteristics.
  • AviPeer
Another one, from the not special people in the beginning of the business. You have to do is the lesson over and over again. The question is how to drive people to do (not just NWM)?
  • The hardest part for me has been to let go to what I have been doing all my life...I am starting to realize that most of us complicate this business...It is true that all we need to do is surround ourselves with the right people and let them coach and teach us and then put what we have learned to work with our burning desire to succeed.
  • It's so true! This business is so simple... we all just need to commit to doing the right things... and KEEP FOCUSED! So many people spin there wheels doing other things all day that they don't do the things that build there business even when they know exactly what they need to do!

Looking forward to the rest of the interview!

    Cheers,
    Brian
  • Kay
This was a great idea... 100 days of learning from the successful in this industry. What a way to get started: Go back to the basics. Then telling us what the basics are. I've been learning for years but have not BECOME teachable. That's a choice. and the work ethics... I've heard them many times over, but without the Teachabilty... which is ALL my part... MY attitude... it just doesn't happen. And then "Burning" ... I think I need to camp there a while.
Thank you for this first part... and the "cliff-hanger"... thanks for putting the whole thing within arm's reach.
    Be Blessed.
  • Lotta
It is easy to make it more difficult than it is. Let it be easy and it gets funnier
  • quincy
Glad to know the basic fundamentals are the same today as they were back then. Lets me know Im on the right track.
  • Hey their Eric,
The video was clear enough to get your message.A lot of people have a burning desire, they are willing to work hard but they're not coachable. Or they have the desire, coach-ability but not willing to work. I do believe strongly in have those three ingredients to be successful in business and in life.
    Mr. Terrence Williams
  • Hey Eric and Dan - this is jam-packed with gems!
    - Surround yourself with great people - penny drops - if I want to organise great events I would be helped enormously by surrounding myself with great events people not just product buyers.
    - (Intense) burning desire, willingness to work (pound the rock), coachability.
    - Simplicity, the basic fundamentals of the business, repetition/duplication.
Take action - measure it. As Jim Rohn said, when you do something you get a ratio. Then improve it.
Randy Schroeder said the other day: What gets measured can be improved and Daily disciplines done daily become habits.
How's about some 90 day challenges for this group Eric carrying out daily disciplines as well as watching the vid?
  • ericworre
    That's next :)
  • Pete
KISS. you're right, you cannot make it complicated. If it is, they will quit.
  • Bjorgli
"The right people and the simplicity" that's great, but I do need to hear it over and over. You are making it so interesting, from different views and experiences.
I've enjoyed your program for months and am looking forward to learn more. Thank you, Eric, for giving us this opportunity.
  • Just hearing that said a little different - 'work ethics', not necessarily 'willingness to work'... sure answered the question I had over the weekend. Irresponsibility is poor 'work ethics'! NEXT!
  • Jorge Longoria
exellent post, very interesting point are discussed. and that is true, the people you sorruond by plays an important role in your jorney to a goal. you have to pick those people very carefuly because on one way or another they will be your team work.
  • Great interview! unfortunately it's not complete yet but I'm looking forward to see the full interview on friday!

I'd also add "Execution". A lot of people have a burning desire, they are willing to work hard and they are also coachable but they are running like "speedy gonzalez" kind of keeping themeselves busy but not going anywhere because they don't execute the activities that need to be done. At the end of the day the results are not there although they have "worked hard".
  • maryjod
    Hi Eric,

Great part 1 interview with Dan Catto. If I haven't heard it once, I've heard it a thousand times, but is never said too often - be coachable, work hard and surround yourself with the right people to have the best chance for success in NWM.
  • Ted
Good stuff, I can’t wait until tomorrow for the two core things people need when getting their business started.
  • clairecameron
So now I am on the edge of my seat for the two fundamentals! Good editing! I like the distinction between the characteristics and activities versus the tools and resources we have today. Some people get caught up in the tools and forget the purpose of the activity.
  • Episode 1 of 100 episode challenge:

Looks like 2010 is back to the basics... Love it.. Very simple and easy to follow. Interesting that not all Million $$ NM Pros were school house prodigies.
Thank you for providing the info Eric..
There is a Promised Land, And We can get there together.

  • ericworre
As if THIS would be a challenge for you. I've appreciated your support from the beginning my friend!
  • simple, basic and duplicatable...I'm always interested in how to apply this and enjoy hearing how the pros do it...looking fwd to the next 3 shows!
  • nikigombis
Thank you both for caring for others and for our industry.
  • fc34615
After only watching this short part of the interview with Dan, I can find quite a bit of resemblance with Zig Ziglar's philosophy of success. Through his teachings, I have learned that the reality here is not to build a business - we actually build people, and people build business. The better we teach and inspire our people, the more successful they will be - and the more successful YOU will be.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the Interview.
    Best,
    Fernando Cadena.
  • amyschubert
This program made me take an honest look at myself to determine if I was the kind of person that successful people would want to be around. A wake-up call!
  • Dan had the urgency to get started, which is where my business has been lacking. If I had more urgency, others would see that and follow me. Learning to develop that urgency despite having a comfortable career to fall back on. I often ask myself "why am I putting this undue stress on myself when I make a good living" Need to find the urgency to be Great!
  • platinummichaelp
Being new to network marketing I find this information a huge help. I been in corporate America and owned my own companies for about seven years and I'm liking this daily nugget very much. Thanks for all you do Eric!
  • Excellent points were made in this segment. One of my favorites is that this is still a relationship business. Tools and technology are great ways to connect with people, but ultimately long term success is achieved through the relationships we build.
  • Awesome stuff!! In the first day of my business, I was taught the same exact 3 principles.. 1) Burning Desire 2) Willing to work 3) Coachable / Teachable ... Although you can't teach someone to have a burning desire, I truly believe someone has to have these 3 qualities to be successful in our profession.
  • gregandmicki
    Yo Eric,
This is my first comment to you in regards to what you do for me and so many others. Thank you so much for giving back and tutoring the rookies that choose to follow the path to success that you and others have taken before us; and bringing us safely thru the potential mine fields of ignorance and inexperience.
    Peace,
    Greg Jarman

  • gregandmicki
Hey Eric, playin catch up. Got my computer back. Great info and advice for those of us just getting started to utilize the team and the system to showcase the opportunity effectively until we get proficient at it. thanx, G
  • Quincy
Glad to know the basic fundamentals are the same today as they were back then. Lets me know Im on the right track.
  • nikigombis
We are never too old to learn. That's good news.
  • Lisette
    Hi!
I´m looking forward to the rest of the interwiev.
  • mrmauriocrawford
I really gotta get better at surrounding myself with the right people. I'm a natural loner. Sometimes I just don't want to be bothered. Now I'm working daily at being better at building relationships and wanting to be around people in & outside of my business. ANY TIPS ERIC??? I THINK THAT I JUST NEED TO CARE MORE.
  • mrmauriocrawford
The 3 Characteristics....& the 3 Fundamentals. I love this. I was literally at the edge of my seat and then.....the nmpro theme song began to play!!! ugh...Thanks Eric. Cant wait til tomorrow.
  • MillionairePrince
Hahaha...smae hear Bro! I liken it to the soap opera's...right before the big news or plot thickening...commercial break!
  • Tim and Tricia
Can't wait to hear the next part. Once you have the three basics in place the burning question that comes up for new distributors is, "What do I say and how do I say it."
  • Bea Resnick
We've heard it before and we'll hear it again: We require a burning desire, work ethic and coachability. No one can do that for us. It has to come from within us.
  • maygua
awesome interview !!!!! I think the 3 core things will be invaluable .... Thank You Eric
  • gerrynickerson
Keeping it simple. Bring it !
  • TAbrams
I totally agree with Dan on surrounding oneself with the right people makes the process a whole lot more fun as well.

Many people that I have been introduced to and have recruited into the business believe they have all 3 fundamentals, but often I find out one or more are missing or not "fully there". From my experience if an individual's WHY is big enough and we keep that out in the forefront constantly going back to it, they will continually develop their work ethic and push to achieve success.

I believe being coachable is key. If a new person follows EXACTLY what they are taught to do from someone who has had success and follows the exact process - they will achieve results quickly, they begin to create their story and duplication is starting to take place. Not being coachable 100% prolongs the end result and builds frustration all around.

  • I think the three core values will bei nvaluable in terms of looking for and working with the right people...
  • Ron M
Awesome interview! Always great to remember the 3 core things necessary to succeed. Willingness to work, teachability, and a BURNING DESIRE for success!
  • I think the 3 core things will be invaluable in working with or looking for the right people to surround yourself with...

    yours,

    nicedavid2
  • Back to the basics and fundamentals. Makes sense. Thanks.
  • nikigombis
It is good to know I am not the only one that messes up. As long as it is better the next time.
  • nikigombis
Can't listen to it enough! Learn something new every time.
  • Daniel Glez.Peña
Hola Eric Thank you for your´s shows, there are very interesting.
Hola Eric,Gracias por tus shows, son muy interesantes.

El sel Coachable y enseñable es lo mejor en esta industria.
Been Coachable and teachable ist´s the best in this industrie...

    Saludos.
  • I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next episode of this fascinating interview. Duplication, duplication--always important for the professional to remember.
  • Re-Inventing the wheel. Why do we all try and do that? I spent years trying and am only just learning that the simpler things are the better. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Lots of comments today. Who's gonna stay the course!!

    Mark
  • Great start to the interview Eric.

I'm intrigued to hear more tomorrow.

I'm the first to complicate any business system so it is reassuring to hear you can earn the big numbers with simplicity, the basics, and duplication.
  • Hi, Eric! You know, it is so easy to grow a big team that people just don´t believe...people say...no...you are kidding!!! ;-) Thanks for your show...looking forward to watching it tomorrow!
  • Hans
I think I met this woman somewhere on this small planet....if I'm not mistaken.... Happy New Year to you Jo !!! H.
  • Obrigado pelo contato, em breve estaremos lhe respondendo.
    Thank you for contact us!
  • I was so upset at the end of the first segment....what a tease! Then I saw at the bottom of the screen that I could watch more....YEAH!!! Dan is obviously very successful, too. Thank you for reminders on the basics!
  • brigittapatel
Great interview, great insights. What really jumped out at me: “Simplicity” just keep it simple…..
  • Rosa7
Keep it simpel ,duplication it's true .I'm looking forward to the next show .
This year is our year succesvol
  • Brynka
I'm working on the core elements for myself, trying to be coachable :) I found his comments about surrounding himself with the right people very interesting because so many people around me are very eager to pull me down and make my dreams and hopes in this business sound impossible, so I'm definately working on ignoring those negative people and listening and working with people who see the possibilities in dreams and hopes. I'm very much looking forward to the next part of this interview.
  • smreed
Oh yes, being teachable & coachable is so important. I was eagerly teachable & coachable. It took me 2 years to realize that my sponsor was the one that wasn't. This caused great confusion for me because I was developing personally at a quicker rate and being told not to do things that I know now without a doubt were absolutely necessary. This I know because of what I have learned from Eric.... thank goodness for you!| ;)
Where I had doubt because I was being told one thing or being told not to bother with this & that by my sponsor, even though in my heart I felt otherwise... I knew the truth when I turned to you @ network marketing pro & a group I am a member of. So with being teachable & coachable make sure that who is teaching & coaching you is operating with true leadership, integrity & HONESTY so trust can flourish.
  • ericworre
This is a VERY good comment!! Not every sponsor is someone worthy of being a coach. Well said my friend.
  • smreed
thanks Eric! Looking forward to the 100 day challenge (and beyond too ;) ) I have been an avid spectator viewing & learning from your video posts but look forward to contribute with comments and keep learning & growing on this excellent journey and a profession that has blessed my life!
  • raybeattie
The classic philosophy, keep it simple. Gotta love it.
  • destrie
This interview provided a lot of value. Thank you Eric! Im going straight to work to develop my Burning Desire, Work Ethic, and Becoming Coachable. =)
  • I agree with every word Dan says but it's not always easy to align yourself with the right people in your own locality. I've found it much easier to find like minded people on the Internet.

My passion is Internet Marketing on the Internet using social and attraction marketing techniques. How do you think this fits into the rule of simplicity compared to conventional methods?
  • jc13
Internet marketing is like traditional marketing. It is way too confusing until you get into it, make some mistakes, adjust, and finally find out what works. Then all of the sudden it seems simple.

That said, Internet marketing pre-qualifies people with the sales page. When they enter their information on the lead capture page they are approaching you. At that point you are having a totally different conversation. You don't have to create interest or overcome resistance - they called on you.
  • ericworre
That's an arena everyone is trying to figure out. You can definitely connect with people, but I've found attraction marketing methods to be a very slow burn.
  • garyparmenter
I like it... Keep it simple! Learn the Basics! Duplicate! have desire.... work hard.... open to knew understanding without the interfernce of the old!
  • Melli
That´s so great. Waiting to hear the next part tomorrow.
  • Nancy
Important info - points out the one element missing - I was not coachable. Am working on that.
  • HoracioMejia
We have a saying in Mexico: "Tell me who are you surrounded by and I will tell you who you are". I recently fully understood that in order to be succesful you need to be surrounded by successful people and by the people that will help you succeed. However, that is only one part of the picture. Using the resources available is also an important part or, in other words, building your own brand. Simplicity is key also. Life is certainly complex, but we are the ones that make it complicated. I look forward to see the rest of the interview.
  • Connor J McDonald
I couldn't agree more about the fundamentals of the business. I do want to touch on one point that I saw come up in some comments below. In terms of having a burning desire, it is not something that your mentor or any team leader can come in and tell you certain things to do and once you do those you will have a burning desire, it all rests in your hand.

Personally, what I have found during a time where I didn't have a burning desire was because the company I was with at the time was not all that it was made out to be. Other people I have seen didn't have a good enough why and some just didn't really need to create a second stream of income and thus were not driven to go out and pursue it. In my opinion, your burning desire is what keeps you going in networking and the lack of burning desire is what stops you. Of course, this is my own opinion and I would love to hear some other responses to this.

    To your success,
    CJM
  • FrankMarshman
The most successful training organization is the US military. They teach the same thing... simplicity, repetition and don't change the program. Because of the simplicity of network marketing most people want to make it more complicated.
  • Eileen
Thank you for helping me get my head on straight as we go into 2010. I need this!!!!
  • Marija Nilsson
Great things, makes me think back just to keep it simmple and souround my self with good people. It´s a monkey do buisness, what you do your team will do.
  • carybennett
Very Good as usual looking forward to tmrw. Thats one of the things ive seen the last few years being a Business owner is people want to have that corp mentality and it does take a mental enima. Good stuff..
  • jpmendoza
The lessons that my grandmother taught, "Tell me who you hang around with and I will tell what kind of a person you are" it is still so true today.
  • highimpact0406
Great first segment! Having the commitment to the fundamentals and doing what the ones before us have done and succeeded at, is going to be the key for success and my approach. I am soaking up every word, with intent to apply to my commitment. In the process of surrounding myself with the right people and it is exciting! Thank you so much for this challenge and opportunity.
  • Frankietay
Simplicity, Basics and Duplication - It sounds so simple and true ! But most people don't it .
  • conniegleave
Talk about leaving someone wanting more! I would have loved to watch the entire interview RIGHT NOW.
I look forward to hearing tomorrow's video when Dan answers the question: "Work hard doing what"?

As for surrounding ourselves with the right people: That's why I'm here and accepted YOUR challenge, Eric, over the next 100 days. I'm not that special either...but...I'm always willing to make another 'special effort'!
  • Wow, it's good to hear how Dan articulates the emphasis on the fundamentals. I have to put down so much temptation in my organization to use spam. As Dan and the Dark Knight would say: This Industry needs an enema!
  • cmattern
Good stuff. Our leaders are telling us the same things, and it is always good to get reminders of the basics. One thing, though. If you have put your dreams on the back burner for decades, because of life situations, responsibilities, etc....for so long that you have pretty much forgotten them...how do you create a burning desire? I want one, but it sure seems elusive. Can't remember what that feels like.
  • wconsult
I agree with most of the comments (surround yourself with people that of the 3 characteristics), but I also believe you need to have the BURNING DESIRE and Fear of Loss. This is one area that I fall short on. I have my reasons that I want to succeed in this business, but I haven't defined my WHY. I have team members that like our company and our products, but they are still looking for the right thing to say before they share anything with their friends and family members. I'm not sure if they have found their WHY yet.
  • chasokwa
I really enjoyed the interview, and the same truth applies, your are evntually what you are willing and commiting to be and waht you do to achieve that.
The people one sorrounds themselves with is as important.

    really great stuff
  • Connie Tolton
Surrounding myself with like minded people is soooooooo key for me. Learning to accept others as they are and not trying to explain myself has given me an energy boost. Connie T
  • "Don't reinvent the wheel" <--- Love it! "Keep it simple and work hard" :))
  • jonidarnell
This was very motivating and enjoyed hearing tips from these experts. Eric, it seemed on the last interview you had a green glow on your face.
  • heatherbrocklehurst
Great first segment, Eric. I'm looking forward to the rest. Simplicity really struck me when I heard Dan say it. I have a tendency to try to "improve" - that is, complicate - things in my business.
  • Matt Genet
Great start to another interview. When I look at the three things it takes to succeed I have two out of 3 but have not put enough direct effort into the business. Kind of sad because if I were to apply this to the corporate world it would just the opposite where I resist learning their ways and have no desire to be there! ;) My challenge is working through my fear of the unknown.
  • Gustavo Muñoz - Colombia
Excelent interview. It is really true that depending on the people that you are surronded by your life is going to be
  • BGivan
I think one of the most important things said was at the very beginning of the interview. Dan said "you're only as good as the people you surround yourself with". The way I see it, is that the timing has to be right for the people you bring into the business. If they're not ready to grow, they won't help you succeed. Thanks
  • pollyhulseman
I agree with the law of the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with. I am working to make sure that I surround myself with 5 positive, mentally challenging people and limiting my contact with the negativity - even when those people are family.
  • juanfernandogutierrez
the key point Coachable; I began trying to do what I though was best; my business did not grow; afeter 3 month of failing I began hearing what I had to do; I followed every step, now I have more than 300 people working with me.

There are no new mistakes; there are old mistakes done by new people in the business
  • tommycone
Thanks for the info. I need to surround myself with more of the right People and I have found one in you. Tommy
  • Good information so far - I really like how he stressed that the people you surround yourself with can really make a difference in what direction you head. I'm tuned in and am looking forward to tomorrow's segment.

  • It's comforting to know that the fundamentals have not and will not change. I'm looking forward to the rest of the interview - thank you!
  • kayanita
Hey Eric, Just rinsing my mind after watchin Dan this morning, when the student is ready the teacher will appear....Stick to fundamentals & 3 things to focus on...simplicity, basics and duplicatable. So I am looking for ppl with burning desire, who are coachable with the willingness to work!
  • kristibateman
Jan. 4th 2010. This was a great interview, I was waiting on pins and needles to write down the 2 things Dan was going to tell us and it ended..oh well, will get it tomorrow.
    Thank you Erick
  • elenaz1
Simplicity: I guess for some it takes a while to understand the more you are sincere with your invitation to look at the business and just tell people your story the more you accomplish. Like I say don't make things up, keep it simple.
  • Eric when you asked Dan the question "What makes you special" I came to think that in reality everyone no matter what our income is is special, because everyone has diffrent skills and personalities that we can contribute with to our industry - the secret as I see it is to find out what types of persons you are good at reaching and the focus on those people. Some speaks easy to youngsters, some speak easy to highly educated people, some to workers.....it's finding your niche and perfecting it.
  • Athletes4Health
Being new to the profession, I really enjoy these "Million Dollar Interviews". Thanks for sharing your three fundamentals. I am looking forward to the other segments.
  • kgoren
Reinforced what I've known for a long time....surounding yourself with successful positive thinking people is key. And learning the 3 basic fundamentals that are a must fo success. Great interview and can't wait for the rest. Thanks so much.
  • PaulineP
I am as only as good as the people that I attract...and that must improve. So for things to get better, so must I. Do what successful people do...and that is why I am here. I need to be here.
  • I like your challenge and have set my calendar to start my day with you! Hope I am commenting in the correct place!
  • It seems fundamentals don’t change...there is another theme I have been constantly reminded about from watching the shows and that is consistency. I think some days I have all three of these and sometimes just 1 or 2 perhaps others have the same challenge?? Having them dialled in everyday is key.
  • Luis Gringras
Surrounding yourself with positive people, some who you can learn, share new experiences or reading personal development books, watching your videos or attending to a conference, always give more energy and wider vision than be connected to WAVE that most people do, like spend 4 hours a day checking TV & News or wasting time speaking about other people lives…
  • George
Great interview Eric...appreciate all that you do!
  • jerryscribner
22 years, 3 fundamentals, common theme with many successful networkers, Jerry
  • Surrounding yourself with the right people is a critical part of staying focused in your business. I believe this because when the challenges and self doubt hit, you need that positive re-enforcement to keep you focused.

The mental cleanse is the hardest part of this business. Almost every new person gets in and tries to do it better than the proven steps. Technology helps and hurts this attitude. Social networking sites are great but the computer screen doesn't take the place of the relationship.
  • bdsfortune
I think the interview will be great! I believe 100% if people are not coachable they will not be successfull in this industry or corporate america for that matter.
  • peterragg
    Hi Team
Dan is spot on here, without a focused burning desire you will not achieve the lifestyle you are looking for. A burning desire comes from deep within. You have got to want it, you are driven by it. When you speak to prospects you need to get a fix on this very quickly, because most people do not have this, they are cemented in the Matrix.
    Happy prospecting
    Peter Ragg
  • duhamel
Dan is a legend in the industry, can't wait to hear the rest of the interview...
  • quintaser
It´s fantastic that the things we have to master on are some "Simple" basics. We don´t have to get an MBA, or beeing a Nuclear Rocket Scientist. We need to be obedient (Coachable), we need to be persistent and brave to face the daily work, every single day. Without a doubt, the MLM is the most noble and fair fo the works, yes It is a Work, not magic.

From Puebla Mexico, I am Sergio Quintana
  • germanjaramillo
Well...i think the MLM in generals terms are the same across de history. With a simple advantage today. We have more resources and tools that let to run the MLM business faster.

I have experienced that. I began with a great MLM company in the 2003, and i remember i had to do it every thing and base only in my skills i obtained the results. Today, in 2010, i use every day the resouces (DVD, internet, facebook, etc) and a i can run faster my MLM business.
  • ritafulton
    Good Monday Morning,

There seems to be a consistent message from all the interviews so far about associations you surround yourself with, KISS, work hard and duplicatable. Can't wait until tomorrow to hear Dan's 2 things?!

    Great interview so far.
  • kgadol
Surrounding myself with the right people! I treasure what I learn and have the burning desire to grow and help others do the same.
  • jobnow
These interviews are very helpful and show how transferable they are no matter what business you are involved in. Dan is right on when he said you have to have all the components, willingness to be coached, willing to work hard and a burning desire.
  • It's funny - I find that the burning desire and willingness to work are characteristics that are fairly common, but coachable is a tough one. Everyone thinks they have a better, softer way. I like the 'Three Things' format - nice and simple - looking forward to the rest of the interview!

    Best,
    Scott
  • I agree that simplicity, the basics, and duplication is the core of what we do. The better you get at these 3 things the better you will do. When we started to understand this is when we were able to create a 6 figure residual income.
  • The beginning of this video is a great reminder. We are constantly surrounding ourselves with new people. I would also like to point out that the person we spend the most of our time with is ourselves. It's great to have your insights to help us improve daily! Thanks Eric!
  • hpena
First a comment about the comments; It's 10am EST and normally I'm within the first 10 to comment, now I'm the 43rd comment, I love this community and the commitment we all have.

What hit me right away was the Law of Association. I would recommend for everyone to rewatch that episode ( I forget what number that was). The more I am aware of my associations, the more I realize the effect it has on my mentality and my overall success.

  • hpena
The Law of Association episode is #95.
  • Daniel W. Cook III
    Great conversation,
simplicity, basics and duplication... Everyone needs to be 1000% clear on what they need to do to be successful. Once people are fired up and motivated with their dreams in front of them... they need to be clear on what to do. In addition to that, once they follow the system they need to see it start to duplicate within their team. Nothing motivates like success.
  • Great start to the interview. I totally agree that surrounding yourselves with the right people is key to success in anything you do in your life but especially true in the relationship based business of Network Marketing.
The three fundamentals of the spoke in the wheel are also key. I find that most people, including myself, have the burning desire, and work ethic to do this business (or any business they are passionate about) well. The getting rid of the old thinking and stuff to become teachable and coachable is where the greatest challenge and room for growth appears. This separates the people like yourself and Dan who go on to become millionaires in this industry and the rest.
    Thanks for these great insights.
Look forward to the two things tomorrow...
    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
    -ed
  • peterragg
    Hi eeidde
I would like to pick up on your post, as I believe burning desire is the no.1 here, miles ahead of 2 and 3. It is my experience that most people do not have a burning desire. They may want to, would like to, do the particular business but fail because the passion/burning desire is missing. Far too many people give up NM because they are not in "the zone". Perhaps you have to have pain in your life to give you the burning desire that is necessary. I wish you every success in your business.
    regards
    Peter
  • Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply and insights. I really appreciate it.
I find that surrounding myself with the right people is a way to keep the burning desire strong inside of me. Many blessings for your success in all you do. May 2010 be your best year yet!
    God Bless,
    -ed
  • Eric and Dan, thanks so much for your insight. I now have an "Eric Worre" notebook and am posting notes from each message you share. What a great way to start our NEW YEAR! Thank you and I'm passing this along to my team!

Great interview. Very good information for the basics.
  • Dave S
    Good Morning Eric,
Our team's goal is to not only listen to the next 100 episodes but to start our days with your show to ensure we begin with the right mindset. Today's episode reminds me of the three legged stool idea that we need all of them to stay upright. But I prefer the analogy of three spokes as our real goal is too keep rolling and growing through Desire, Coachability and willingness to work. Roll on!
  • Bryan_in_KC
Now this is a little crazy, but I swear it's true! Last night on my hour or so drive home I was thinking about what things I could use as a "sorting" process to determine whether or not a person had what it took to make it. I had come up with work ethic and being "coachable", but l couldn't settle on the third leg of the stool.... until now.... BURNING DESIRE. Also... love the phrase "mental enema" !!!!
  • From the heart! Thank you for sharing. It is inspiration to know that it has been done before, is being done today and will keep on being done because it is the most logical thing to do for yourself and your family.
  • oryah
    hi Eric
I decided to join this amazing jourey - so we all be in it ,as a group, I wonder about the other benefits -
that are yet hidden from the eye - to reveal them self slowly as it goes on..... group work - surely does this !!!!!!!!
  • seija
    Burning desire...!
  • ybimbalanced
This should be a great interview. I love the beginning, surround yourself with people you want to be like. Can't wait to see the full interview.
  • A couple of things. First, regarding associating yourself with the wrong people, this is very timely for the new year. One of my key areas that I concentrated on this last month was connecting with the right people, the people who I wanted to become and hang out with.

I've learned the hard way about simplicity and not reinventing the wheel. I come from a corporate background, like Dan, however, I was also an affiliate marketer before becoming a network marketer. It was hard letting go of all the excess 'stuff' associated with running a successful affiliate marketing business only because I really didn't fully understand duplication in network marketing and how that is achieved.

  • It showed my major the weakness . . . Burning Desire. This helps me to know what I need to work on.
  • kellylanley
    Self-evaluation: Am I all three?
  • Wow! I appreciate that you and Dan talk about the fundamentals, which has always been the core of having a business, whether you have been doing it for 1 year or 22 years. I have to be honest! I need to work on ALL 3, burning desire, being coachable and teachable. I look forward to what Dan says are the 2 core values.
  • Marion
What great info in just 6 mins, love the 3 spokes of the wheel - you must have all 3 to succeed!
Real cliffhanger at the end though:)
Looking forward to the rest of the interview
  • Todd Amundson
    And the 2 things are....
  • lbusby4
Well...I enjoyed part 1 and am looking forward to parts 2-4 and then watching the interview in it's entirety to make sure I soak up every valuable piece of advice. Thanks for all you do to help us!
  • brianhepner
We really do have a better way... I am in corprate America now and although it has it's place and will never go away. I will. This video as all the rest with the millionare club, shows a happy person helping others, not the main structure of that business world.
  • bartar20
Its always great to hear about the basics, it doesn't matter how many times you hear it because for me each time It instills that behavior that is so important, Keeping it simple, having a burning desire, willingness to work and being coachable, so true, if you only have 2 out of the 3 it won't work, people will quit on you or more importantly quit on themselves. Thanks, I look forward to the rest of the interview.

    Barry
  • geraldmorris
I'm here sitting on green waiting for the next one. Great information as usual. I am learning so much here.
What I find the most interesting is that I keep hearing the same things from different mentors!
  • bethascoli
While each interview is interesting and different in it's own way, and each guest has something unique to share, its also interesting to see that the same themes (fundamentals, duplication, etc.) are constant with virtually every top earner. When I was less experienced in network marketing, I used to get bored hearing the same principles repeated over and over again, but now I realize the importance of repetition. I think it also proves that these fundamentals are so important, as they seem to be what worked for everyone who has made it to the top.

Great start to the interview, I can't wait to comment on the rest ;)

    Beth
  • I'm here as promised.

I like the image of the three spokes of a wheel. It makes it simple
  • Dan Catto is great! One of the few who still build traditionally with human interaction and has built a global business in areas that most people can't build! Looking forward to more parts. Thanks Eric.
  • claralondono
what makes me special....accepting challanges and being teachable. The road ahead is clearer now..thanks again
  • Steve_Nelson
Im exited to be getting paid while im sleeping in the future! Looking forward to the complete interview on Fri.
  • marycalvillo
I love the reminder of the three core fundamentals - desire; work ethic and coacability! I also love how he spoke of working hard for a few years to reach my goal and create what I want for a life time.
  • gillym1
Very logical comments by Dan - you can see how it would be easy to overlook one or two of the qualities needed to succeed!
    Gillym1
  • bartonmurray
great stuff...thanks for sharing .looking forward to parts 2-4!
  • enrique62
Those were so powerful questions you asked me. What makes you special? What are the core fundamentals? Sorround myself with the right people. 1)Burning desire. 2)Work Ethic. 3)Coachbility.
The relationship keeps the organization alvie.
What does it mean working hard?Simplicty, the basics and duplications.
  • I have read and heard the importance of spending time with the right people. The interesting part is after so many years of associating with people at my current level it is hard to beak loose and go up. I have the tool to bring the people that I associate with up to the next level. The have to have a burning desire, willingness to work the system and be coachable. Thanks for the insight. Cannot wait to hear the rest of the story.
  • Wow, look at all the comments! Amazing what a little challenge can do to get people going.
Looks like another great interview Eric.
You gotta have all three "spokes" in the wheel - I love that!
I'm looking forward to the rest of this interview. Thanks.

By the way, the audio IS off a bit, but it's not really an issue.
  • Defining work hard... my experience is most people have not produced it at a sustained level. Also working hard on issues, ideas, and methods is not the area needed to produce results. Calling 200 people a day, talking with 30 new people a day to begin the process and managing the follow up from the previous day’s efforts is a good place to begin the hard work effort needed for success to ‘just’ happen.

Coachable does not mean agreeable necessarily but willing to engage in the task, be uncomfortable with the newness and your lack of confidence does not stop you. Riding a bicycle takes having some accidents for most of us and some of us need training wheels and then having to let go of them as well. I would rather have someone tell me no ever y time and then go do the task than someone who says yes and gets stuck on NCIS reruns.

The third leg for me and the one I am most deficient is burning desire, passion, belief, faith without doubt... In the beginning knowing how to keep it burning is the mystery. Keeping it burning in me and keeping it burning in those around me is a key. I have NOT found my "trim tab" that adds fuel or ignition for me yet. I have been able to light it in others first. The Law of Association may be most important in this area. Surrounding oneself with naysayers, doomsday and newscasters will keep the flame low, cold, wet and often turned off. It is more than staying motivated… motivated is part of the hard work leg... Creating an opening for your passion to rule and burn away the cobwebs of fear, laziness and doubt is a skill, a muscle I must strengthen this year. I have generated it in the process of working hard and had I had it going into the hard work I would have been 1000x more effective.
  • jc13
Well said. Can I use your third paragraph to share with a few people?
  • Absolutely. I believe that is what networking is all about. Sharing and supporting each other. I appreciate your asking too.
  • Thank you. When I read it again I realize it is packed with metaphors.
  • Jeff Chambers
You are dead on about the fact that its a MUST to have all 3 attributes otherwise you're kidding yourself about every making life changing income in this industry.
  • Goldie
I'm just starting to use what I learned - trying to duplicate in a simplistic way. Thanks for the encouragement to help me believe.
  • peter79
Keepiing it simple and basic is really critical because it makes it so much easier to go on even times are rough and you feel like you wanna quit. By keeping it simple and basic you can go on working without thinking and still get results even though you have a horrible day/week/month.
  • rasdaniels
I need to mediate on this everyday until it is burned into me...."Do what I need to do for a few years and then I'm able to do what I want the rest of my life."
  • The mentor in my first company always stressed "being teachable" but I didn't get it until recently. I had the desire, and I was willing to travel the world to build the business, however I was taking his "teaching" and adding my own experiences to it to make it "my own". Needless to say "the wheels fell off the cart".

Thanks to you, Eric, I've realized that it's as simple as "just do".

Surround yourself with successful people and JUST DO what they are DOing.

Can't wait until the next episode!
  • I completely agree with the statement about paying attention to with who you associate yourself. If you surround yourself with pessimistic and negative people, it will affect you. Burning desire, willingness to work, and being coachable are truly the fundamentals and one cannot build a successful and lasting business without all of these present and applied every day, no matter how long you have been involved.
  • jlconner
Great stuff today. The three core principals were a good reminder not only what to look for in prospects but what we should be looking for in ourselves. We must not forget to be what we are looking for.
  • julie67
I am excited to hear the entire interview. I am pretty new to network marketing and it is great to hear these basics. I know I can work hard but have questioned myself just the very question you asked Dan - "Work hard doing what?" I like to have things that I can apply like simplicity, doing the basics and making sure duplicatable. At the beginning of the interview you asked Dan what made him special. How do you find the "right people"?
    Make it a great day.
  • chriskemp817
Great Interview. The basics are: (1) Burning desire (2) Work Ethic (3) Being Coachable
I like what he said about working really hard for a few years and then being able to do what you wanted for the rest of your life.
  • ericworre
Amazing comments from all of you so far today! What an incredible community. So proud to be working with all of you!!!
  • Pepeneto
Burning desire, willing to work ethiclly and coachability and teachability. You need three to suceed, you need to find people with this characteristics, buy I think that the most important of all is the burning desire, because as you have told in others shows, when you have the passion, you certanly will find the way to get what you want, and maybe is not going to be fast, or maybe in the beginnng you were not willing to work as hard as we need,or you try to do the things your way, but at last you will realize you need to work harder or you need to learn a new way to do things. Passion and burning desire let you keep going in that journey of discover what it gets to suceed.

    Thank you very much
  • rasdaniels
I agree completely with Pepeneto! We need that Burning Desire.
  • Jeroen Lingier
So what did we learn today, children of mlm?
You need three fundamental characteristics to succeed. 1. burning desire, 2. workethics and 3. teachability &coachability
+ surround yourself with people who want to get higherup (sounds a lot like a Jim Rohn audiofile I've got.) you become what you surround yourself with. you will have the income of the five people you spend most time with.

    greetings,
    Jeroen from Belgium
  • keithraines
As the late Jim Rohn said, "there are no new fundamentals, someone who shwos up with new fundamentals would be like a man saying he had manufactured antiques" Burning desire, work hard, coachable 3 steps to mastery in any field especialy Network Marketing.
  • Damijan81
I love the point on having that mental enema, leaving our preconceived ideas / ego at the door and bring that work ethic and desire to the table that most have, BUT also to bring the coach-ability so that we get the correct results as well. It took me quite a while to figure that one out. I love the shows Eric been watching since day one, it has really helped me along my journey.
  • Maxwellhealth
As tools and resources become a focus of so many the basics/fundamentals tend to be marginalized....great to see again the common theme of the 1% again stress it's the fundamentals first and consistently and the tools/technology merely speed the cycle.
  • rmgmag
Eric, all of the people that you've interviewed have said basically the same thing about how they built their business, a burning desire, hard work, consistency. But when you ask them how they did it, none of them really tells us how they did it. Where are the specifics? Who did they talk to? What did they say? How many people did they talk to? Where did they find new people? How much rejection did they encounter? How did they overcome the rejection? Maybe I'm missing something, but every interview is basically the same. Lots of theory, not much in the way of specifics. Do they keep their tactics a secret on purpose or what?
  • jc13
Network marketing is prospecting and sharing. Using the 3-foot rule and your warm market. Making presentations and asking for the sale. It is keeping an active list that you add to as often as you can and a management system where you can put your leads on a call back in a month or two until they decide the time is right for them. Somewhere in each of us is a switch in a dark room that we blindly search for. But, oh man, when the light goes on!
  • ericworre
Good question. I think it comes down to this, the theories you're referring to are what really drive the fundamental behavior. Making a list, contacting & inviting, presenting, follow up, getting people started, culture, leadership, etc.

I do think you have a good point on the rejection issue. Everyone has faced it. Nathan Ricks did a good job of talking about it in his interview. I'll make a point to ask about it more specifically.

    Thanks for the great input!
  • tyroneholmes
Thank you Eric and Dan.Not going through a mental enema , holds a lot of us back from taking the simple steps toward success.I believe I need to make an appointment to have one.LOL
  • Don Harrington
This is the start of a great new year. Fundimentals to keep us on track.
    Can't wait for tomorrow.
  • gabisahar
    ok, I got it.
    Burning Desire
    Work Hard
    Be Coachable.
    I got it.
    Thanks
  • rmonte
We do not need to reinvent the wheel. Those 3 core qualities in any person are the foundation of success. Thanks!

  • einargh
Fyrst three leads. Desire, willing to work hard and chotsheble.

  • Kathy
Thank you for being there teaching and helping us.
  • "Mental Enema"? -Never heard it put that way before. Well, sure got the point across. LOL Great info. Thanksl
  • carolbarrett
Great information Dan and Eric. So true that the basics haven't changed just the technology. I cannot wait until tomorrow's show. It really is a great time to be in Network Marketing!
  • fredlund
Excellent information. Continued reinforcement of the core principles which, if followed, will allow us to be successful. Looking forward to more.
  • Mark Dickson
Thanks, watching today show it made me think of a pass show 160. Keep it simple and duplicateable.
  • lauralopez
    Hello Eric
This is a great philosophy "You are only as good as those you surround yourself "
Success is always coming whit these 3 fundamentals
    1.- Burning Desire
All great success ultimately begins with an idea, but what makes ideas become reality is the fuel of human desire. An idea by itself can give you a temporary feeling of inspiration, but burning desire is what gets you through all the perspiration necessary to overcome the inevitable obstacles along the way
I suggested to Take a moment to think about the goals you've set for yourself.
How committed are you to achieving these goals? Under what conditions would you give up? What if you could significantly increase your desire to achieve these goals? What if you wanted them so badly that you knew with absolute certainty that you would absolutely, positively never ever give up? When you are truly 100% committed to reaching your goals, you move from hoping to knowing. If you want something badly enough, then quitting is simply not an option. You either find a way or make one. You pay the price, whatever it takes.

2.- Willing to Work work hard, work hard and work hard until you reach your dreams

    3.- Being coachable and teachable
Sometimes people want change (or others around them want them to change), but they may not be currently open to changing their beliefs, behaviors and actions
    There are a lot benefits
    Realize Goals
    Celebrate successes
Set up supportive environment for success
Putting the pieces in place that lead to success
    Develop New Skills
    Improve time and self-management
    Personalize strategies and systems
    Improve social and communication skills
    Manage conflict confidently
    Manage Emotional State
    Empower self-image
    Remove blame and shame
    Improve self-confidence
    Control worry
    Reduce stress
Appreciate your strengths and unique gifts
    Discover personalized approaches
Understand the criteria for a successful strategy
Create a personal pattern of success

    Regards

What great information and reminders for us to keep things simple so they can be duplicated! Thank you for this valuable information!
  • bryantkeefe
Thanks Eric and Dan. I am excited for the second half or your talk. The basics...WOW....I look after 37 sales people in my day job and if only I could get teachable/coachable into their routine. I am going to make a flash card for my pocket with the three fundamentals listed so I can remind myself to remain coachable, filled with desire and ready to work hard. Oh and watching who I hang out with..another great reminder.
  • jc13
Goood idea about the flash cards in the pocket.
  • William M
Great interview, I can't wait to see the rest of it. Thanks for having this forum. I have been to many of your
trainings, since the early 90's. It's time to go pro now. Thanks again!
  • rebeccaharms
Thanks for jump-starting my week. Reinforcement of the fundamentals/keys, the very core of success, can never be overemphasized. Friends, like-minded people, as demonstrated with you and Dan, will help me thrive.
  • Hai
Great Lesson in the FUNDAMENTALS with Dan Catto for our first Monday of 2010. Thanks for simplifying the 3 core characteristics of success: Desire- Will/Work-Teachable. I always look forward to getting valuable nuggets of great information & inspiration from your show. Thank you, Eric! You are definitely one of my "quality people" to be exposed to daily!
  • Repetition thats my weak point.
How to maintain the energy to repet the actions when I have no success?
When people that join disappear after a week or a month.
Finding the energy time after time again and again.
  • jodygr
It is amazing that all you have said, hasn't changed in 20 years. All NWM Professionals say it again and again and again. The BIG question is who will PRACTICE it?
Well, my commitement to myself is that this year I will become a network marketing professional - with such great mentors - I would be a fool to miss out on the opportunity.
So my thanks goes to you for being the teacher and I will indeed become coachable.
  • drmikempa
As usual, valuble and useful information.
  • There are real gems in #211:

If you do what needs to be done for a few years, you can be in a position to be able to do what you want to do for the rest of your life.
Spend less time with people who are a bad influence on your life and more time with people who are a good influence on your life.
Even if you’re a dwarf, you can be a giant if you stand on the shoulders of giants.
You’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with.
Three key factors for NM success: burning desire, work ethic, and being coachable.
Three key things to focus on: Simplicity, the basics, and duplication.

    Notable quote:
"If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough."
~ Mario Andretti - professional race car driver
  • soxfan071
I watch your program every day. I never took the time to comment before this and I can't tell you why. This is a great interview and I look forward to taking more notes. Desire, Willing and Teachable...I know I have to have it to share it.
  • Bob and Pam
We really need to implement these fundamentals, instead of just reading about them and listening to them. If your going to talk the talk, walk the walk, eh? We are so blessed to be able to surround ourselves with your mentoring Eric on a daily basis and surround ourselves with the successful people you surround yourself with. Hmmmm....Did we say surround? We are so thankful, that the people you interview, in all your segments are SO excited about what they do, that they want to share and take the time to do so. And so many lessons learned in the feedback, so glad you made that a condition of this challenge. Thank you Eric
  • Day 2....thanks for the effort you put in Eric. It seems to me that having a strong reason (your driving force) and the ability to commit completely to what you're doing are high on the list of success requirements.

Looking forward to the next 200 shows!
  • Hans
Desire - Will - Teachable - Do the Mental Enima ..... now where did I hear those words over and over again for the past 5 years .... Oats ??? .... guess we all love water filters and nutrition, now don't we? Great to hear that I my hours spent at the feet of that great MLM hero were not spent in vain and that all those great lessons can still be applied on a daily basis to this new exciting opportunity that I found somewhere within a gel. Thanks!
  • Jillian
Hi Eric, - another great interview - its the wow factor for me. You are the sum of the people whom you surround yourslf with... seems to be the mantra of successful people. Also the importance of the fundamentals which forms the basis of NWM get a large group of (the right) people to do a few simple things...
I look forward to the rest of the interview.

  • yuvalcohen
    Hey Eric.
    Lesson fascinating.
I believe in the steering wheel 3.
You are a huge source of inspiration

I found the interview interesting and look forward to tomorrow. As a beginner this reinforces the great training that I have been receiving.
  • Katie N
Hi Eric, I really liked this and I am looking forward to hearing all of it. I liked the comment about extreme effort, not so much the right people but the right effort..
  • You've got me on my toes Eric and Dan.
    I'll be back for more..
  • Cee_G
Hi Eric...Amazing that all the NM Pro's repeat the same basics as the foundation of your business. Why do I keep listening thinking that there is still some additional "secret" that will be revealed? Some additional "trick" or "key" that no one has mentioned yet? I don't believe that I am the only one that thinks this way. Logic and numbers tell me that there is no additional "secret", but I still open each training, each book, each webinar from all the different Pros waiting for the "one big factor" that will make all the difference. In your experience and your contact with all these successful people, can you explain why this pattern surfaces? What recommendations do you have?
  • anthonyviglietta
Eric- Another great video. These interviews with the million dollar earners really get me motivated! Thanks!
  • dannyscottlynn
its funny how this information keeps coming around. I have watched several videos last year of your show and I am amazed at how easy this business can be. I guess the key thing is not to try and re-invent the wheel. I hear it from one millionaire to the next. Me and my team will keep it simple and work on the three main spokes of the wheel.
    Thanks
    Eric!!!
  • Edith Kohler
Again interesting off course and by now I know everything said is so true.
Curious about the rest of the interview
  • jeffreyhall
It always comes back to the fundamentals. So true that this business in not difficult if you apply yourself and allow yourself to be coachable. But it is not easy either - like all else success requires dedication, persistence hard work!
  • pech
Dan is absolutely right. The wrong people can drain you of all energy and belief in the business. Just remember that the people who are wrong today, may change and become the right people at a later date.
  • theuns
    Hi Eric

Thanks a gain let me give something from my side as you say we must do:

We all just need to come to the table of Learning and step up to the plate.

My philosophy is If you are not the teacher sit dow ind learn from the teachar's
( The people you need to seround you with ) , Dont try to reinvent the weel if it
did work for your Teachers Why on earth want people to reinvent the wheel if
    it work for the teacher's.

And the most importand thing is to show up every day and do what winners do
and that is the exercise every day, go to your MLM gym here on networkmarketingpro
and become a pro your self. And apply what you learn every day dont put it off get the Nike
Attitude and "Just Do It "

    Thanks Eric and Dan

Wonderful hearing this. It is always a breath of fresh air to hear Simplicity,Bascis and Duplication. It is so easy to get off those tracks.
  • eloise
This was a lot of imformation in this interview, can't wait for the rest.
  • kobimilner
I allways ask myself what are the basic - but itr seems that when you start to summerize them - you loosing simlisity. I think basic is - Just Do It ! - but i here to hear & learn from you Eric! Thanks.
  • drpricedc
Great interview so far.... I know the importance of those who surround us, as well as the importance of practicing small disciplines each day, this being the key to success. The challenge is always finding those to put into your "mastermind" group or your groups of association. You are attacking the two biggest challenges with mlmpro....giving all of us a mastermind opportunity as well as daily training in the basics. Great stuff!
  • aileens
You are so right Eric. The first question is always "busy doing what? " I am on the edge of my seat to find out more from Dan. great stuff !!
  • gkamlm
Great program to kick off the new year with the fundamentals. So looking forward to the balance of the interview.
  • Completely agree and understand.
    Love you all

You say be around the right people, how do you know you are with the right people?

Thank you for your time Eric
  • ericworre
People who are moving you in the direction of your dreams.
  • Ria Leermakers
Great interview. I'm stil working the 'burning desire'. I want to do this, trying hard for almost three years now. But the lack is the desire. Gowing to work on that one.
  • Kjell Englund
Thanks Eric. To learn the basics and surrond yourself with the right people is very important. I always work hard to learn the basics, it´s the simple part. But to change the people arrond you takes a little more of your nerve. But I´m conviced that it´s the only way to go for success. I´m just in the beginning of my buisness but I´m learning at lot every single day. I have make my choise and I go for goal.
    Best regards from Sweden

Being really successful in anything in life boils down to the same fundamentals.
I really appreciate the service that you have been providing us for the 211 episodes that you have already done.
  • Foord Yates
I'm glad to be the average of the 5 people who surround me - they are all excellent mentors - although its always better to be slightly above average, right?
  • ericworre
Actually NO. It's always better to be at the bottom end of the 5. Then they pull you UP
  • NexusResources
Got nothing to say, but watching nevertheless, day 2 of the challenge for me, day 4 still no ciggies - I feel like a winner already
  • congrats on putting down the cigs. I quit 771 days ago. the accountability of making your goal known to your friends here on NMPRO will help. we're here to support you, keep it up. Here’s a blog post I wrote at the beginning of my quit. Check it out, it may help.

    original blog written on 11-1-07:
    I'm no longer becoming a non-smoker... I AM a non-smoker!!!

    That's right I've quit!

October 17th, 2007 was my first full day as a non-smoker, and as I type this it's day 16 in my new life!

That's 16 days without a puff, drag or anything! Now you may be thinking, 16 days… that's not that impressive.
    I'd say... you're right.

At the same time, the only thing that will allow me to say it's been 3 months, 3 years, or 3 decades… is time.

This is the last time I'll quit smoking b/c I'll never have the opportunity to quit again as I'll never be a smoker again.

    That is my commitment!!

For years I've smoked cigarettes on a daily basis and yet didn't want to consider myself a "smoker". Justifying it by telling myself "it's only temporary, you'll quit when blah" then "blah" would become reality and I'd just push it back to some other "blah". Then that blah would become reality and I'd create some other justification (excuse) not to quit yet.

Well what do ya know, I blinked, YEARS went by and I was smoking the entire time.

The reality of it is my lungs didn't give a crap if I considered myself a smoker or not, they still we're being treated like smokers lungs for way too long.

I guess… no I know, I was waiting (making excuses) till everything was "perfect" in my life before I would start to act like the man I knew I really was.
Well the problem with that is no matter what, life would never be perfect. There'll always be something, some factor in life that keeps it from being "perfect".

This time I'm not using any patch or pill or any of that other crap. I'm simply using the power of my mind. (I hope you didn't just roll your eyes)

Said another way, I've created a strong "WHY".

You may be thinking, what the heck is a "WHY"?

Your "WHY" is what drives you; it's the foundation of any passion. Before you can have passion, you must first have a "why".

With such a strong "why" in addition to my commitment and focus… quitting smoking isn't even a challenge at all! The reality is it's been VERY rewarding.

I KNOW without a shadow of doubt that I'll never go back to smoking.

Some time ago, I heard (from Anthony Robbins) that we, as mankind, have only two goals in life: they to avoid pain and to seek pleasure. PERIOD!
That is the motivating factor behind every decision we make, no matter how big or small the situation may feel.

So all I really had to do was link (in my mind) more pain to smoking than pleasure. More pleasure to quitting than pain.

In addition to all that power of the mind stuff, I've also started to exercise, taking vitamins, and antioxidants, and really have a focus on health and wellness that will promote a long healthy lifestyle that will allow me to enjoy my life all the way through my golden years to my last day on this earth!

I'm not interested in "existing" to an old age; I will "LIVE" to an old age!

Well I guess I've rambled on long enough. Just wanted to let everyone know where I'm at these days and more importantly to publicly make this commitment.

Making a commitment to yourself is powerful, but telling others of your commitments will create even more accountability; and that's only beneficial.

    Thanks for reading.
    --Matt (a.k.a. Shorty)

Aloha Mr. Worre, I have been a NWM for about 3 years now and have complicated it in every way imaginable and am lacking one of the three key ingredients that are vital. I really want this to work and I am committed to NWM, but I do not know how to create a burning desire within me. I have my WHY and have made DRASTIC changes in my life to create a "build your parachute on your way down" sense of urgency, and have yet to create that burning desire. As I mentioned in my earlier response, commitment WAS an issue for me, but I am committed to your challenge and I am committed to NWM. I keep thinking that I just need to figure it out, but deep within me, I know that I just have to do it and do it and do it and do it and fail my way forward. You are reading my words as a part of the journey that I am hoping to reflect upon one day as I share it with others who say, WOW, that is exactly where I was and then they can see how I overcame those obstacles. Thank you for your help along the way! :) You are inspirational!
  • samdieli
Eric, this is just awesome! Dan said it best about promote, promote, and promote, how else would we be able to move forward without moving the products and service. Serving our people. Thank you so much for sharing this webinar training with us. Yes, we have the best way in Network Marketing.
  • hanneretvik
Thank you! Put like this it seems so easy... I believe it is very important to surround yourself with the right people. I am just starting up in this business and I get a lot of critical and skeptical comments . But I shut my ears! As long as I have the burning desire to succeed, the willingness to work hard and am coachable, one day I'll be the one to laugh!

The mother skill: Repetition. I love that! Wow! It keeps surprising me how some top earners who started back in the days remain telling us some key aspects as "Burning Desire" "Willing to work hard" "Being coachable and teachable"...

Although I understand what Dan says about it isn't a matter of being special but making special efforts... I still thinking that the type of person who is ready and understands that it will take special efforts, it's a special type of person... Maybe I'm finding excuses, maybe not... But we all know that "Network Marketing is good for everybody but not everbody is good for Network Marketing". Let's see how this great interviews continues.

    Thanks Eric, Thanks Dan.

Hey Eric ,I liked the approach to work with the right people and of course the three rules for success, and of course do what it takes today to be able to do what you want tomorrow. thanks

    Eric,

As I posted yesterday on #210, where 211 - 213 were also available, this interview really gives me something to relate to. A lot of what Dan Catto talks about is exactly how I feel.

I'm a few days away from completing my first year in MLM and I have to admit that I'm sometimes very frustrated with myself. I KNOW I can do this but I just keep coming up short on my own expectations on speed of building. I also know that it all comes down to my own inhibition towards talking to people about MLM. That's where your shows (and Randy Gage's resources among others) help me. As Art Jonak suggests, I borrow your belief until my own is strong enough. It really helps to hear that you guys also struggled in the beginning!

  • Great Cliffhanger!

And, repetition over time, is the way to build the business ... but, repeat the right things =)

    Keep the good work up

Working hard is the common thing for all success, too many people want results immediately, I liked this show, look forward to next.

I really enjoyed this episode Eric! It hit me hard with the recurring themes of hard work and proper associations, both of which I'm working hard to develop more of in my life. It's pretty crazy and cool at the same time that everything I've been reading and watching the last few weeks keeps bringing these themes up to me. Thanks again Eric!

I am new to this so I am looking forward to hearing more
  • Don't overcomplicate things. Yes.
Coached someone today on tightening up their process. We removed six steps and got it down to three repetitive actions.
This will be a great interview.

PS: Although the audio is up and down it's not too bad.
Use the 'normalising' or 'normalizing' function in your a/v software. You should see a marked improvement in balancing audio levels.

Good start, looking forward to the rest of the interview :) The sound was ok, I just have to focus a bit more and that is good :)
  • Eric, are you using the mic built in your laptop/desktop?

Surround yourself with the right people = who you spend your time with is who you become. <-- Heard sooo much on this. LOVE IT!
  • Ron Ackerman - Israel
Wow. what a lesson: "if i will do what i need to do, for few years, i will be able to do what i want to do, to the rest of my life". that says it all.
great interview. forget about the sound problems. when you have something important to say, it can be heard at all sound levels (-:

It is quite amazing. All the successfull people in this Network Marketing industry - never mind what company they are associated with - they all talk about the same ground principles for their success.

If it talks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck - it is probably a duck, right?

People should just STOP trying to invent the wheel over and over again!
Find your leader - one who has proven success in this industry, one who HAS what you WANT, and DO WHAT HE DOES.

Great interview! Looking forward to the rest.
  • I totally relate to the "mental enema"... corporate thinking over complicates what is truly simple. Success ALWAYS boils down to burning desire...coachability...and doing the do...over and over and over. That was a great cliff-hanger ending Eric...LOL Looking forward to the next video !!
