NMPRO #218 – We Have WORK To Do!

January 13th, 2010 Email This

Feeling strong and confident after yesterday’s show?  Feel like Network Marketing is reaching that mythical “Tipping Point”?  Let me tell you, we have a LOT of work to do before that happens.  Well earned stereotypes from lottery mentality people posing as MLM distributors have bruised our image badly.  Today’s show will provide a brutal reminder of the work we have ahead of us.  BUT, we’re up to the task!  Please share your thoughts with the rest of the community by commenting below!

Believe it or not! You can make movie or you can make money in NM. But you cannot make both :-) .. simply because the NM producer make money and the NM non-producer is too busy making movie (about people not making money in NM and make fun of the people who make the money...). I don't believe it.. that I'm writing this instead of doing the contacting, STP (!), follow up.... man, there's a lot of work (real work) to do in NM... Helping people to help themselves to have a better life.
  • Miguel Cortez
The tip is here... thank for the awareness... that why we are here to go pro...:)
  • aliceflanders
where is that video we are supposed to go watch?
  • InspiredDeb
Ouch. But let's not get too defensive - the truth is EVERY profession in EVERY industry has been bruised by manipulative practices and unscrupulous business practices. Doctors, lawyers, clergymen, bankers, brokers ... dishonesty / fraud is rampant. Shining a light on the corruption or deception in any profession is often the fastest way to effect change.

Thank you Eric for putting such an important topic on the table and encouraging us to "be the change".

  • wealthandriches
Oh, I wish I could say it's funny; but it's not going to be funny when people keep pointing that movie in our faces once they have seen it. You're right Eric, we all need to do the profession a favor and be professional. By our example only, will this type of perception be changed.
  • Have admit the spoof is pretty funny...I think it is a good message to us NMPRO's on what the perception is out there and gives us a bench mark on what we need to be working on. I think it is also something we can embrace to show what WE as NMPRO's are committed to changing.

Franchising at one time was in jeopardy of being an illegal business model b/c people were using is in a BAD way, the business model was not BAD, Ray Kroc proved that and look at it now.
  • Again, so true. The wrong way to approach people is exactly why I wanted nothing to do with MLM. Fortunatly, I met people that showed me the proper way and NOW I am PROUD to be a networkmarketingprofessional. What a change in beliefsystem.
  • yitz613
As though of us who have made some serious money know it is netWORK marketing not netwish marketing
  • Ian
That really does make you gringe doesn't it. Yes alot work is needed to fix up it's image and the poor results which is what? 95%-99% fall away rate with a few mths or something? Way to much still. Your right it's all to do with people not understanding what they have in their hands or pretenders looking for a quick buck.
  • meagankellytorres
Oh man! Do we have work to do or what? This is just one more challenge to add to our list of challenges and obstacles to overcome. But if we look at it from a different point of view, we must appreciate the challenge and see it for what it is...an opportunity. It will test our strength, our belief and our commitment. That is the only way to weed out the professionals from the amateurs. If you have a bullet proof belief in what you're doing and our industry, then nothing can stop you.
  • Calvin Boutilier
I guess its time to get to WORK! lol thanks again!
  • ido_aronson
I admit. I did not like the trailers one bit.
This one takes a loooong deep breath before preperation.
Your title sais it all... MAN, do we have WORK to do...
Now I need a couple of your previous shows to get me back on track...
  • Dee_Canada
You are teaching us how to change the view of networking by changing how WE see it!!
  • Robertdiggsjr
We gotta help people understand, so they will respect what we do
  • Elaine Baril
Networkmarketing is still a "young" business, but I believe it's the way of the future ;) The missconception is that it's an easy way to make money. False.... Those that get into the business and don't get "rich" in the first 6 months quit an label all networkmarketing businesses as scams. Well... I'm just glad Bill Gates didn't quit after 6 months :) And he wasn't a networkmarketer!!!!!!. What I'm saying is: Not matter what business you get in or are into, you gotta work hard at it if you want to be successful ;) Nothing comes easy in business, nothing.... wether it's networkmarketing or any other business they all take WORK AND DEDICATION. If you don't have that, you will always struggle.
  • ViktoriaGuerin
Good ro know such a movie exsists, but I would not like to watch it.
  • nelleke
Be honest to yourself and learn how to become a real Pro in this business. It starts with our attitude first. I'd like to become a pro and not just have some sort of "thing"which is called a business.
  • tjsknmp
Watched the clips - not enough material to carry a whole movie. Like watching a movie making fun of doctors or lawyers. Without a plot and good acting, it's just a waste of film. I'm proud to be a network marketing professional, just as if I was a doctor, lawyer, etc.
  • It is interesting that most of what I heard in those movie clips I have heard from distributors. Except that most distributors will tell you that your results may vary, just to cover there butt. Any ways what is a person to do when even the company seems to be putting this type of stuff out there? I mean our product may help with this or our product is the best money can buy! Really!?! I really would like to find a great company with a great product and a great pay plan... Maybe I am seeking to much perfection but I need to know that I have the best of every thing before I get too involved. I heard some people even say it doesn't matter what or how good the product is just get out there and sell it! We have the best pay plan there is! I have yet to see a really great pay plan. I was in retail sales in a hardware store. Did you know that a single bolt or screw can be marked up as much as 500%! and most items in the store are marked up 100 to 200% I have never seen this kind of mark up in NWM. I know I won't either because there are alot of hands in each sale which is way the product is quite high to begin with. Just some thoughts. Thanks for all you do Eric.
  • JON FORTI
NETWORKING WILL BECOME MORE SOUGHT AFTER AS MORE PEOPLE LOSE THEIR JOBS.
  • travelprohawaii
Wow I felt the same way before. I stuck with it though and am still persisting.
  • Learn the industry....know the industry....go out and tell the truth about the industry...
  • Jorge Longoria
hahha funny but sad. the worst it is that they believe it when they aren't even trying it. i have never before seen a trailer for a movie if this type. but i dont care i now that CHANGE it is happening RIGHT NOW.
  • travelprohawaii
I Want to be the change!
  • MDungey
    Let's get to work!
  • CINDYSU
Ouch!!!! I just watched the trailer. I can't believe how many NWM cliches they packed into that little byte. I have to admit I have squirmed a but when I hear distributors repeating the same pat cliches to each other and to propects, which tends to add fuel to the fire of cult mentality. Thanks to you for discussing this in intelligent, logical terms.
  • chiatkhor
I used to do wrong. I talk to everyone I meet no matter who they are, what they are doing, do we know each other or not, I didn't care. Just like those people in the movie. All those 'hard works' just made me tired and lack of confident. It was all crazy and useless work. Then I learned. Now I do it in professional way, and it makes me see the result, and I grow.
  • John Boyd
    Believe in the truth!
  • granttomkins
    Lets clean it up
  • Funny, alarm bells, what not to do...
  • Jessi
Oh well - more obstacles to overcome.
  • racingworm
It just seems people always have to condemn things they haven't tried . They always have something to say even if it's not worth saying.
  • karenandian
You are so right - most people already have a preconception of what it is we do in our business!! How wrong most of those people are. With hard work - we will overcome those ideas.
  • Unfortunately, till these days there are people involved in network marketing that are spoiling what we all here want to show the whole world. It is the game of numbers ... after doing hard work we will win, I am sure. Let us go show the world !
  • ioana17
We do have tones of work to do! I guess they will make tones of money with this movie! I am sad.
  • KeithN
We definitely do have Work to Do. A local radio station here uses similar stereotypes in a promotional parody they call their "Multi-Level Marketing Program". They tell you to coerce all your friends and family to listen and don't take No for an answer. Re-set their station buttons on their car radios, and yell out of your car window at others to listen to the station. If you're successful in doing this, the radio might give a certificate.

I wasn't offended. I knew exactly where the idea for this radio ad came from. Until more Network Marketing Professionals start eroding those perceptions, the stereotypes will continue, and the tipping point will remain just out of reach.
  • FedericoGrowthsperity
Eric I totally agree with you, most people have preconceptions about our industry, and I don't blame them! I used to have them too, until I gave myself the chance to understand what it is all about.

Through personal development and becoming proud of what we do, when people come to me with the most varied reasons to dismiss the opportunity before taking a look, I already have a thick skin for not taking those comments personally, and I also have a teacher in my heart, so I try to make things clearer for them, after they see my attitude and the fundamenttals about our wonderful profession, their ears open a little wider and they are more willing to listen... Our job is to educate, but that all starts with educating yourself. This program has been a very critical part of my current posture.

    Really appreciate it!

    Federico
  • I put it in my netflix queue. It looks like it should be funny.
  • Lotta
They will see that we have a better way.
  • penaltybox1
Sad thing is to some this is the way it is
  • susanjohannesson
I believe that thanks to the personal development we do every day we will improve enough for making us unbeatable and that people will recognise our sincerity, honesty and true wisdom and therefore we will win in the long run. But it is true, we've got a lot of work to do as well...
  • hanneretvik
You're right, we really have a lot of SERIOUS WORK to do!
  • pickertn
Thanks, we truely building networks of people and sharing in what we are already doing and capitalizing on that.
  • BobandPam
We DO understand that it is about you and all of us, to help bring back respect to the Network Marketing profession. We DO have alot of work to do.
  • Ngoc Tran
Do the network right the first time so that I don’t have to repair the duplications. And for sure, to be able to do it right the first time, I have a lot of work to do. I step by step to conquer the top for certain.
  • conniegleave
Those trailers would be funny if they weren't so true...tsk tsk

I'm happy to report that the company I'm involved in does NOT partake in such antics...and neither do I.
  • andreabyrge
I'm not sure if other companies are seeing what mine is, but at any given meeeting, I am surrounded by well educated (4,6+ yr degree) people. Small business owners, doctors, airline pilots, commercial real estate developers; these are just some of the professionals on my team. I know the stereotypical people do exist, but have hope, we are certainly not made up of mostly those. The rest of us just have to be brave enough to proudly say we are professionals and yes, networkwork marketers.
  • Ha, ha, ha! Very funny! Quite true (in some aspects), but not representative of the entire industry, Have you guys had the pleasure of reading the Six Blind Men of Hindustan> Google it and you'll know what I mean. It basically tells us not to judge something without getting a complete picture of what it really is.
  • gkamlm
Everyone of us must do our part in demonstrating professionalism in the business.
  • gerritbronkhorst
Hmm...I believe nothing is new in the world. You see those negative things everywhere and I believe that it always have to do with how people see YOU. Leading by example is therefore very important I think!
  • breynolds
It takes many of us acting as professionals to counteract the bad name a few people have made for network marketing. Let's be professional and act with integrity!
  • classy70sgirl
How true this is! It is very unfortunate that our profession has these negative experiences and gained a bad name. Just yesterday I was told to "go get a real job", so people still think that Network Marketing is not financially viable. My personal experience is that people in general are afraid or not interested in personal development and also not confident enough to step into something new.
    Thanks again Eric!
    Classy70sgirl
  • Eric - I enjoy each video that you do and can't thank you enough for the time & effort you put into providing good, right on the money content on a daily basis. There's an old saying that says the cream will rise to the top....each one of us that are professional will rise to the top and learn to lead our 'tribes' (a great book by Seth Godin) correctly. Once we ourselves learn it and grow, we will, by duplication also provide network marketing professionals.
  • As in every business you can find the ugly and the people that are distort the real picture to get some easy money.
You can find it in the stock exchange, in the real estate business ans in the network marketing industry.
We as a community have to denounce and reject any unprofessional behavior.
We do have lots of work to do!
  • ockaren
Ouch! Too close to the truth! I always try to conduct myself in a professional manner and without apology for this industry. I'm only looking for people who are looking for me, I don't try to talk anyone into anything.
  • BobbyRay
That clip would have bugged me in the past but just got back from our annual kick-off and I just blew off that preview. We have the better way!
  • Yes, so much work to do. I never heard of this movie until now. I'd like to watch it. It is to close to reality....almost scary...to many out there working this business like the Believe opportunity.

Thanks for this site Eric..you are adding value to the industry. Keep going!
  • Magdalena
    Looking forward to Monday's episode.
  • Juan Pablo (arg)
This is the way tha I saw the industry before to be on it ...
  • crwood1967
I never thought about our business as a "Lottery Mentality" perspective. By the way, the video is funny from our perspective.
  • MarvinTowler
It hits hard and done to the bone. Even the way that they sell the DVD in the 5 and 10 packs. Thanks for sharing this poignant albeit skewed look at our industry.
  • Vonnita2010
Hello Eric, in many of the other shows we have not just discussed this issue but actually laughed about it, also in the past show you said THEY ARE FINALLY WAKING UP, well that is what it's all about, people are missinformed and the reason why we have these movies are actually to help people that are PRO's like you lead future PRO's like us into clarifying and guiding ignorancy in our profession, MLM is the future, you know it, we know it, but it is our job to TELL THE WORLD and yes IT IS A STONE COLD FATCT THAT WE HAVE A BETTER WAY!!! LOVED IT!!
  • agelfederico
Waoooooooooo, it looks like is going to be a very funny movie, can wait to watch it.

Regarding NM being far away of reaching Tipping Point, I kind of disagree, as I think that just because someone made a movie on the industry, it seems like NM will get more attention, and this might take us even closer to the TP.
  • Too many people seem to accept others opinions as their own without ever challenging them. Breaking through this kind of ignorant prejudice isn't easy, but I think it's best to lead my example. When people have proof that you are "of sound moral character" they will be more likely to look at your opportunity with open eyes.
  • claralondono
I am much more confident and now I can proudly declare that I am becoming a Network Marketing Profesional . This amazes and confuses many of my friends...but since they know I am serious about this , it makes them start wondering "¿ What´s going on ?" or "¿ Am I missing something important in this moment and time??....like it.. thanks
  • Pepeneto
Yes, It is a well earned stereotypes but efforts like Eric is doing with this kind of videoblogs, seminars and everything else, is really making a difference. We all are the change. Remember there are stereotypes in many other professions too.
  • emmettb
This, like any business, will have people who are unethical. But as in other businesses they get more attention in this field. That hurts.
  • alcamacho
Let's keep the ugly away and do it right!
  • margarethockaday
shows you how ignorant people can be and stupid. people need to take the time and get educated
  • I'd like to hear Randy Gage's comments about it. It's really upsetting when someone is making laugh of your profession because they didn't do it in a professional way since day 1.
  • lisamb84
Thank the Lord for coaches like you, Eric, who are teaching us to become true professionals and not say and do all the silly -- even deceitful -- things that sometimes still go on!
  • wow...strong stuff we are up against !! And yes we need to act and be pro´s...
  • JON FORTI
ALWAYS ACT PROFESSIONAL, NOT LIKE IT'S A HOBBY
  • I agrre we really need to work at extinguishing these fallacies
  • Layla
About what network marketing is today, it would be good to make a documentary.
Personally, I have even written a script program, focusing on the monitoring of people how to survive when they leave from zero.

    Layla
  • drkay
I would love to see that, Layla. There are more people than we could imagine who are now or soon approaching that point. This is perhaps the last frontier for the person looking for the answer to "What do you do after you have lost it all?"
  • Layla
How is a network of marketing, before being operated, has created the current image. Now this picture should brighten.

    Layla
  • Layla
Invitation to events is one of them myself, what skills will learn.

  • jean_albert
That movie is the perception of a lot of people of network marketing. Now that we've been reminded of that perception, let's do it right (professionally) to fix the mind-set.
  • guydrennan
I watched the link.. you're right. Painful. Its going to cause a lot damage. Its time to build posture and professionalism. The point is we need to talk to the right people, and that means being able to sort, qualify, and address people's needs first, not our own needs.
  • guydrennan
People learn as they are exposed. The recruiting process is duplicated, whether professionally or by an amateur. Amateurs often have no selling experience and lack finesse, so if an amateur exposes an amateur, then its the blind leading the blind, exhibiting annoying salesman behavior. YES we DO have a lot of work to do. Great point, Eric.
  • cmattern
Like franchising in the 70's was considered to be a scheme. People worked hard to have franchising made illegal! But, look at it now...very widely accepted. believe in this business and present it as a business and it won't be long before MLM is the 'norm'.
  • Arnold Thompson
It makes me laugh that the people who made this movie are using the same marketing techniques and encouraging other people to do the same thing as Network Marketers but yet they feel like they are better than us. They are encouraging people to go to their website to learn about the movie so they can sell tickets/DVDs, they are encouraging other people to share their story about the movie and their experience in MLM so they can sell tickets/DVDs, they are offering DVDs for sale on their website 1, 3, or 10 pack. How is any of this different from MLM marketing? Oh Yeah, when we tell the story, everyone involved gets to benefit, not just the "producers" or "owners". There really is a lot of hypocrisy out there towards MLM and I really don't get why people feel MLM is so bad when every business in the world is structured and managed the same way. You're right Eric, we still have a lot of work to do!!
  • Carlos Perez
As we become more professional and ethical in our great profession. we will be teach the World that this is a great profession
  • heatherbrocklehurst
    You're right, that was brutal.
  • Cristian
LOL haha that was soo funny! Love it! Thanks to people like you, Eric, we are reconstructing the prejudices which others will have on network marketing pros! Keep up the great work friend!!
  • barryburgin77
It is the get-rich-quick mentality that has soured people on network marketing. If only there was some way of taking NM mainstream....Hmmmmm. What would happen if someone from the business world, a respected billionaire with a brand name that is known all over the world, stood up and started a network marketing company like the world has never seen? What would happen? Would his brand name be enough? Time will tell!
  • ronniw
on to watch the ugly clip
  • luciabrazell
ha lol that preview was funny!!!! it's funny some people are like that (still laughing) .........I have a lot of work to do now
  • mariasiro
I watched the movie... and it was UGLY yes, we really have work to do
  • Keith Murfet
Not a 'Pyramid Scheme' but rather 'Peer to peer interactive vertically aligned retail co-operative'. How brilliant (not)! You're right Eric - an incredible wake-up call. If we're honest with ourselves we've all used at least one of the phrases or approaches depicted here during our learning curve. This movie should be compulsory training for all would-be (and current) MLMers. Congratulations again for your ability to make your training so relevant while remaining generic.
  • Zeissy
Funny on the verge of brutal!!
  • Steve Johnson
Sometimes, bringing up the past can be painful. Fortunately, with the leadership at NMPro, the revolution is well under way and this movie is clearly mocking the old industry. We can proudly say that the past is not an indication of the future and look how far we've come and where we're going. Look at the insurance industry in the 80's compared to today. Great things happen when you decide to be professional.
  • robbinsaturniewicz
I'm up for the task of creating a better image. One person at a time!
  • Cortney
Yeah for cleaning up the misconceptions about network marketing. As professionals, I believe we should not be presenting our opportunity, as so many do, as a get-rich-quick way to financial freedom. I think the amazing lifestyle of the high achievers is all-to-often used to entice those people looking for a get-rich-quick way - while the potential truly exists, their incomes are the exception, not the rule.
  • Damijan81
We really do have a responsability to teach our teams the meaning Professionalism as leader in our industry otherwise it will never change.
  • Ria Leermakers
Funny but a litle bit scaring.
There really is a lot of work to do for all of us.
  • Be the CHANGE! Like any business, it's about providing value to your customers (and business partners). Treat it like the real business that it is. Learn the skills. Recognize that what you have is not for everybody. Promote your business with integrity and truthfulness. Set realistic expectations. And work your butt off. There is no free lunch. Attract people with a work ethic who will take responsibility for their business. Enjoy the laugh and don't take it personal. Thanks, Eric.
  • petegiokas
It amazes me how quickly people quit this business. If I were to pick one thing about MLM that makes quitting easy, is the easy entry! I.e. getting started for $100 doesn't add any real risk. So people say what the heck...if it doesn't work in 3 month, I'll quit. No legitimate business can succeed overnight.
  • KRT1
    That's a little scary...
  • donham298
    Mocumentary is a good word.
  • Luis (Pelon)
We have to do a lot of work to turn arround the lottery mentality and a lot of work to make our networks grow. WE HAVE TO ACT NOW! Coach our downline and let our selves be coachable.
  • thank you eric. not feeling like i have much to say today.
  • Dylan Cooper
Yes a lot of work to do but this is funny when you realize and are confident that you are working as a professional and with integrity.

I have worried a lot in the past about being perceived in a cheesy, negative way. Actually though, if you do the right things, have integrity and behave properly, people will not perceive you like that. In fact you help to change perceptions slowly but surely. I am sure everyone watching Eric's clips are part of this positive movement.

    Dylan
  • That's why I'm so happy these days....I mean, how often do you see the so called "Guru's" these days..
I guess they are chaking...How many times have we all got this emails : "No is the time, just pay 99 $, and we give you the "secret". And you got an ebook with crap.....
I've been waiting for this to happen for a long time. This is the real MLM..
Thank you : Eric, Randy Gage and Mike Dillard. You have given me a LOT...
Now I'm REALLY proud to be in MLM
  • CarlosVera
It does get tough out there, but it's up to us to change that awful stereotype created about this industry. Yes we are going to have to deal with uncomfortable comments about what we do, especially when we are new in the business, but we must be up to the challenge to let everybody realize that lots of serious people involved in our business are actually working hard and doing great in a very competitive industry and not just buying or trying to sell hope.

  • tjsknmp
Funny trailers, but enough for a whole movie? I have no problem telling anyone I am in Network Marketing. It is my chosen profession. Just like telling someone you are a doctor, a lawyer, a carpenter, whatever. No one has run away from yet.

  • Edith Kohler
    wow!
At first i didn't feel so comfortable, after seeing the Belief trailer.
I had to read a lot of comments
    Than watched the trailer again
The second time it seems so different to me
Now again I feel confident about NM

Hope I make my self clear
  • gloriavintila
This is an wake up call. A personal one. I feel like that, especially now, that I kind of reduced my activity and became a bit "lazy". It came exactly at the right time and it will be of great use. Thank you.
  • Connie Tolton
Can't wait to see the video - that is the biggest challenge I have been facing and am very happy to see us acknowledge the wrong and set the facts straight.

    Connie T
  • jayvannostrand
I love what you're doing here Eric...we need more PROFESSIONALS in our industrty...be the change you want to see...love it!
BTW...thanks for the link to the trailer...good stuff.
  • mspaulamc
Important point made here .. we are ambassadors of the industry. Richard Brooke calls it "Prospecting with Integrity". And when you say GO PRO - it excites me for the opportunity we each have to educate and spotlight our incredible opportunity!
  • mrmauriocrawford
I submitted my testimony on this movie's website! The director emailed me personally. It was great. Cant wait to see this movie. The trailers and other vids on the site had my side splitting. Unfortunately, too many people don't understand what we do. W/ NMPRO, WE'RE CHANGING THAT DAY BY DAY!
  • kamalharris
I commented yesterday and it didn't go through. That trailer made me laugh though. That is a result of the people, who made the movie, truly not understanding this profession. I also have to fault all of the people within our industry who use the most rude, unprofessional, invasive, tactless approaches in our business as well. When I was 9 and my sister was about 6 a guy came to my house to present his soap and detergent products to my mother. I remember just staring at him saying to myself, "this guy is a clown and I would never do that". Fast forward years later, after being under the leadership and direction of some of the best leadership in existence, i've grown to realize that it wasn't the N.M. Profession. It was him! And thousands just like him that leave bad bruises and deep wounds in this profession with their "get rich" attitude towards it; never taken the time to learn the interactive people skills and many other skills necessary for the development of self to succeed over here.
  • Jilliangene
The upside to all of this is that when we take over the world by show them the better way, we will be seen as the leaders in the industry. We will be the ones that set the standards and moved MLM into light. It is people like you, Randy Gage, Jeffery Broome and the other leaders in this industry that make it possible for me to see the light. All of you have gone "pro". MLM is the better way - now let's share it with the world.
Thank you for leading the way!!
    Jillian
  • Freddie Peiker, Germany
WOW - really funny! This movie seems to bring it right to the point. Ordered it immediately.
So, everybody in the peer-to-peer, verticaly-lined up retail-cooperation-family (MLM???):
let's work on this and let's start to get rid of that image!
It's up to everybody of us!
    Thanx, Eric!

    Freddie
  • Shovers
Thank you for taking all the things people say and think about Network Marketing, and put them into a concrete video. Maybe new prospects can see the difference in what we are vs what everyone thinks we are. Helping to clean up the industry so Integrity will become synonomous with Network Marketing instead.
  • Inger
Pfff... and people wonder why other people think bad about networkmarketing.... and why friends and family want to run as soon as they appear in the room...
Let's all learn from it and help new people not to make those mistakes too.
  • dougharkins
Under the weather yesterday, but back on track today, time to get to work!
  • etronics6
WOW Yes that video was UGLY!! We need to BE the CHANGE, just like you said Eric!!
  • deniseschnitzer
I missed you yesterday due to a computer crash...happy to be back on board! I will watch this mockumentary with caution. My question: how do we inspire people NOT to believe like this? If we "be" the change, is that enough? thanks, EW
  • Eric,
I hope you're right re: promoting events...it's something I am weak at. Look forward to your webinar about promoting events. Is there a money back guarantee?
  • Vange01
Eric thanks and let watch the video and work to change the image of Network Marketing.
  • frankdiaz
I agree with the riducle ....this is where personal growth comes into play!!!! you need to be prepared for the torpedos and handle each one as it comes and teach your leaders as well........
  • yeah, I'm getting the "oh poor Jayne" looks from my family.
Last night, I was talking to my brother about the wonderful changes in my company and how network marketing really does work when you're in the right company.
He said "yeah right. They're just telling you good things are coming."

Talk about being pushed down by someone you know.
    Oh well, carry on....
  • You're so right . . we have a lot of work to do to educate people that Network Marketing is a honorable business, because of all the bad rap in the past.
  • mbryant
Very good - I like the approach of "cleaning this up"!
  • randyhendrickson
You are right we have a lot of work to do.
  • I totally this is crap. I dropped out of a company because of a person just like in the movie. I couldnt work the business with out him choking me with his hype. He divorced his wife because the business was more important than his family. He not only drank the coolaid but had the pitcher handing out glasses. Lets get to work and change this.
  • seija
We have a lot of work to do!
  • Boy do we have work to do !!!!! But I dont find it hillarious, Eric I find it offensive and depressing !
  • yuvalcohen
    Thanks Eric
I totally agree how. I was doing the business.
Therefore important to how I approach business. Professional or amateur.
    I choose being a professional
  • Earl
Love the point about "calling people out" that are doing our Profession inappropriately. We need to make that a thing of the past. Thanks for a place where we can send them to understand how to do the profession right!
  • Ryan
Love the empahsis on being "professional".
Right when you got me starting to get a little swagger going, I'm reminded to humble myself and really find the appropriate time and think about the other person as I'm trying to share my opportunity.
  • dawnmarielagmay
Aloha Eric, wow, makes me wanna "Believe" in what I do even more and go out there to save more people in the world from those who are too afraid to take their eyes off of their 9-5 to realize that the stone cold fact is that we do have a better way! Comon, lets go show the world! :)
  • latachia_2
Are they really making that into a movie? Then we best to be prepared for peoples misconceptions of network marketing. That is suppose to be funny and all,but we have to take it seriously,to show people in a professional way. I will be sure to get that movie,as I think we can learn a lot of how not to be!
  • latachia_2
You are working really hard at your shows. I got these two out of order. I double checked to make sure I had all of my comments in & this one was up& I didn't get it in my email.I just did a comment on this one,I don't see it yet. In case it doesn't show up,I agree with you 100%.We do need to act as professionals. It's a few bad eggs in the bunch that spoil it for everyone.

We all know that a network marketing product has to provide high value in the marketplace in order to be legitimate and acceptable to consumers, meaning that it needs to be a product people would normally purchase at the price being offered to the consumer. Michael Dlhouy says, “Choose products that make a difference for you and the people you love.”

We know that we the network marketers provide high value to the companies we work with because their product is brought to market faster than any other distribution method and the product doesn’t risk getting lost amongst the dozens of other products on retail shelves.

The value of the network marketer to the consume needs to be of equally high value. What people are buying is you and the value of you. One of the greatest anxieties of a consumer is making a bad decision. They don’t want to make a bad decision about you. Once a person decides they like you, they place their trust in you and the information you are sharing with them.

Our company had a great training call yesterday on turning a cold call into a warm lead. The gist of the call was that people buy from people they know, like and trust. People want to know that your business exists to serve them.

Leading with the heart and asking naturally curious questions will help you continue the relationship after the initial meet and greet. It is the connector that will bridge you over to a connection. As the conversation develops you will be able to determine if there is a need or problem that exists. You can offer solutions that may not even be your solution.

Giving them the attention and respect they deserve and crave will create a loyal customer you can return to over time. They see you as a trusted friend whom they would love to refer their friends to. Simply put, this is the Win Friends and Influence People principle.

So often people think the primary motivating force of people is pleasure or pain. The discovery process for these types of sales people is to find the hot button and push it until the client whips out their wallet in search of relief. Modern consumers are aware of the warfare tactics that they are assaulted with and won’t be easily persuaded.

Have you ever purchased a car where they bring out the closer, the heavy hitter, after the first salesperson is unable to get your signature on paper? Stuck in a little room with the interrogation light in your face you answer a series of questions that you agree to and later regret. Is it any wonder car sales gets a reputation like network marketing? It may be an unfair stereotype, but it is unfair for a reason.

The primary motivating force in people is love. Your concern for a person will be reciprocated. I like the quote by George M. Adams who says “There are high spots in all of our lives and most of them have come about through encouragement from someone else. I don't care how great, how famous or successful a man or woman may be, each hungers for applause.”

I don’t think the mentality of guerrilla warfare and seeing the potential client as an adversary to be taken down is the correct approach for direct sales.
  • latachia_2
Awesome! we have to always act in a professional manner. We do have a lot of work to do,but in time this to will change,it's alreading starting too.We have good recomendations from people such as Robert Kiwasaki& Donald Trump& many others.
  • georgeman
There are people that treat their business like a religion. They quote everything they hear and feel they need to constantly educate the world to the point of annoyance. People that seem deranged and madly excited at times. The same people seem to work their business like it's a "mission from God" and it's their job to evangelize. The unfortunate thing is there are so many people in our industry in need of refinement by a better example, and after several years of doing things the same way, changing becomes a very difficult thing.
Many of us only know the culture we are in and don't know any other way. It's a shame when the thing called "change" that we value so much in others is so foreign to us.
By the way, some of the things the movie mocks are staples in some of the industry, Ex. It makes sense to buy from yourself, some negative talk about jobs, Network marketing or direct selling or private franchising being interchangeable, a home meeting shown, products being demonstrated as a better alternative, tapes and books, etc. The movie is obviously a laser guided missile at the lower extremities of the big "A", of course, are we expecting them to mock a three year old company, or the company that has screwed up the most?
I believe one thing is for sure, "people will not follow you if what you do day in and day out is considered weird".
Sorry for over using my privilege as a member.
  • beckydesabah
We must recover our good image and show people that our profession is as honorable as theirs (at least!). Patience, perseverance and focus are our tools ... so lets get started!
  • janetsnetpro
Wow...I love this segment. I deplore those folks whom make ME look bad when I am passionate & respectable about Network Marketing. Thank you so much for giving us a tangable video that REMINDS us what we need to do to keep this PROFESSIONAL...YOU are the best Eric! Great way to start 2010.

The only thing that i can say about this is wow, this is what other people think, so it will be a great tool to overcome those questions.
  • Yes, we have a lot of work to do, acting professionally and raise the standard of our profession. Personal development is the glue that sticks our business together - let´s keep building our leadership factories!
  • germarl
Thanks for the reality check -there is much to be done - and as 'Professionals' we can do it!!
  • Bea Resnick
Ugg! The movie clip and the stories hit too close to home to be funny. It’s a good reminder to “keep it real.” Still, in my heart I believe you’re right – we do have a better way…..and we have a LOT of work to do!
  • I saw that trailer last week and my husband who is not supportive of this industry laughed at all the stereo types he believes are true. While I want to see the movie, I have a feeling I will sit frustrated through at all the stereotypes just like they do for the nursing industry on TV (you know we are all sleeping with the docs and don't have one brain cell in our head). As I feel the industry has come forward since I joined my first company in 2000, this may take the public's perception three steps back.
Commenting on georgeman's thoughts below. I remember Eric did a show on an industry leader who carried every type of product sold through a network marketing company. I was really shocked at that concept and it made me look at myself everytime someone approaches me with their "latest business". Because we are all human... doesn't it get you a little pang when you think "Why didn't they join my opportunity?" I now look at the whole industry with love and respect and when I see that party advertised I'll do what I can to help them succeed. And realize the responsibility lies in myself that maybe I didn't approach them with confidence about my opportunity or I didn't approach them at all.
  • Jilliangene
wow - love your comment! You are speaking my thoughts. I started in 2007 and it still hurts to have my closest people around me being closed to my opportunity. I know it my confidence level, and lack of knowledge about the industry. Once I totally buy into the industry (go pro) I will have the sucess I am missing out on.
    Thanks
    Jillian
  • jc13
That's great. Helping others when there is no direct benefit to you will gain a person lots of attention.
  • Connor J McDonald
This is so true! The movie clips were hilarious, I counted keep track of how many things that I saw in the movie clip that I had heard before. We really do have a lot of work ahead of us. Side note - I don't like how on the bottom of the movie site it just randomly throws several good companies under the bus.
  • rosslopez
I love this profession =o) to become NMPRO
There's no doubt we are in the right path, we just need to tell the world there is a better way.

    Thanks Eric
    Hugs from Mexico
  • Thanks Eric, you are absolutely right. If there are objections (and I'd imagine 90% are justifiable otherwise the mockumentary would be dead in the water) then we need to eradicate those sorts of behaviours that damage the MLM brand and prevent people from seeing a real opportunity that can change their lives. I've been through the property investor training process too and some people come out of that with a bad feeling because they don't take action and end up with debt and disbelief where initially were hope and dreams. I used the guides to help me climb the property mountain and trebled my money in 12 months - albeit there were some testing times along the way - so the system works.
MLM is another system. It is self-evident that if you just repeat basic behaviours over time and avoid damaging your brand, the industry's brand and your company's brand - you will become better off and meet some great people along the way (as well as learning a lot about sales, marketing, personal development, presentational skills etc etc). Not sure where the link is to the video you mentioned but I will search around to see if I can find the content you mentioned.
  • caronwashington
So true that our profession has so many misconceptions. We have to be teachers and educate people on why we have a better way and why this is a "real" business. The people that understand this and apply the principles will be forever grateful and reap the rewards and hopefully have a tremendous organizations that reaps the same rewards. However, we do have WORK TO DO!!
  • feltricks
Great show, I get a lot of emails from people mad at me because somebody else gave them the wrong info, or didn't gave them complete comp plan, and saying that all of us are liars and stealing their money.
I'm really tired of the MLM morons, let work together to become professionals.
We can be the change to get the respect we deserve and everybody involved in the industry doing things right deserve.
Well said my friend, we have a lot of work to do.
  • jeanalbert
Becoming a network marketing PRO is the best way to overcome the poor image our industry has suffered.
  • mikeyfromvegas
Yes Eric ,way to much snake oil still out there. We all have to think of what we realy have and share it the right way. I think when you bring out the value in our product (s) the rest comes a little easer.
  • Don Harrington
This is a real problem for our industry. Everything on the trailer has been said one time or another in network marketing. We do have a better way and going pro and succeeding is the only way to combat this, especially with the first people we presented the business to, family and friends.
  • gmuhammad
    Thanks Eric
  • Vern Trabue
Be the professional...the network marketing professional that Eric is asking each and every one of us daily to be, and we WILL change the perception of our profession!
  • Mike McCoy
Wow a flash from 25 years ago. Glad I can laugh at it today. We are professionals, learning a better way.
  • It's sad that they have so many real sterotypes and experiences to draw from to create this film. There is a lot of work to do. Every unprofessional networker we can refer to a site like this is a step in the right direction for all of us. A rising tide raises all boats!
  • georgeman
I totally understand the bad practice of selling "get rich quick" and how bad it is for our business. I am thankful for not being in a group that has profited by selling to people the notion of the " free lunch". Realistically, I believe that this bad practice may never stop. We can only reform ourselves.

I truly believe that we are the perpetrators of most of the damage in our business; how in the world can we raise the image of our industry when a lot of us in NM spend so much time cutting down the rival company? Most if not all of the legit NM businesses can bring you a good to great second income in 2 to 5 years when worked like a real business!! Why would anyone join an industry when the only NM company that is real and delivers on the deal shown in it's plan is the one that you represent?? That's like saying all the pizza shops in town are poisoned except my pizza shop.
We have to show love for our WHOLE industry, ALL COMPANIES!

I used to feel a kind of satisfaction in my heart while verbally cutting down a rival company, I made a lot of mistakes, and now I know the truth. Most people that are not willing to pay the price in one NM company will do (or not do shall I say) the same in another. Also, if you run ABC company and bad mouth XYZ company, your example to the people in your business is also multiplied if they ever leave you. Love and respect is KING!!

Please, if you ever get the chance to sit with someone who is not in the same company as you, that wants to leave theirs due to lack of money, ask them to show you their company business plan, and also what their own business looks like. You will know the answer as to why they made no money.

Some of the clips of this movie were funny, and others pissed me off. Its a crying shame these idiots can mock the industry this way, such stupidity. I personally love the organization I am part of and I own a conventional business during the day. When a nice middle aged mother of three from a different Network Marketing company approached me about making a website for my conventional business, I jumped on board to support her to design for me a great site for my auto business. I don't have web site design in my NM company, so I supported someone I like from another! In other words I support my own.
  • mchalk
I think the whole misrepresentation of NM is why some people (like me) tend to hold back and therefore have difficulty achieving success. We worry about the "stigma" associated with this industry. Obviously each of us need to help dispel these absurd notions by leading with integrity;however it's so easy to talk ourselves out of action when we think our reputation is at stake!
  • cherisizzles
It is SO true the way you describe most people's perceptions of network marketing individuals. I will stand beside you and help to change that stereo-type by learning all the ways that people are turned off, and doing something to change those methods. It's a HUGE hurdle, but I know we can do it. Nothing easy is worth having anyway!!
  • Ellis3
Eric ... this is crazy ... maybe this means that we are at the tipping point(?) ... never before has anyone spent so much money on proving that Network Marketing does NOT work ... :)
  • davidgreene
Like I posted late last night...this is simply our Spinal Tap Moment. To keep on track just like all those 70's & 80's bands who may have been affected by Spinal Tap, is to keep Working Hard, Smart and Professional. I am Celebrating My 20th Year in our Awesome Profession and I am Still Learning & Still Improving My Daily Methods of Operation and I have this site to thank. The Million $ Interviews with the likes of Dan Catto, Dan McCormick, Todd Smith and Others will Help You be Not Just Super-Successful but, they will help you (along with Eric Worre) become that Networking Pro You Want to be. Watch them Multiple Times & Apply What you Learn.
  • jennyc
I wonder if we will always have to live with the bad reps others have created.
  • bethascoli
Not if we change them! :)
  • carolmcwilliams
Watching those clips made me a bit sick inside as I feel they accurately portray what main stream people think about NM. Rightly so, because that is much of how people presented the opportunity. So the deeper question to me is How does one show opportunity and professionalism without the hype, and pressure. I know what I do to be authentic, honest etc. but at times I hold back talking about the opportunity because I don't want to sound, look like or be anything close to the stereotype on the movie. I wonder what impact this release will have on our profession, in people's openness to choosing our business model.
Yes, we have much work to dispel these ugly images in so many minds.

  • Alvaro Rodriguez
Ok I laughed...but also it was a little painful to see. I think that we can change that but it means a lot of work... a lot of people doing simple things (been professionals) a long period of time.
  • John
Yes we should crusade to convert the masses in their attitude and opinion of the MLM business and it all starts with our own personal example showing that we are professionals, we know our industry, we demonstrate sincerity as we try to help people change their lives and not give an attitude of 'what can you do for me to help me achieve my wealth'. That is one hill we need to climb in public opinion.
  • Grace2010
    As always informative show.
  • miguel
Awareness is very thing.... That why i need to go pro... :)
  • tambry
I think alot of people have these stereotypes because our products are not sold through magazine ads, t.v. or in a store. We have to educate them about what direct sales is all about.
  • Dave S
Having been in the biz for less than two years I suspect a few my friends would say I could have had a roll in that film. Unfortunately some of the first people I thought I was learning about the industry from proclaimed the “get rich quick” philosophy and as a result, I was extraordinarily enthusiastic and had the vision of some of my best friends join me. I suspect most of you know how this chapter ended. Yes, I did nothing more then scare those friends away. Fortunately that chapter of mylife is over and I have now come to appreciate what it will take and I am enjoying the journey more then ever. Thanks for your leadership Eric and for bringing this great community together to share their experiances and knowledge with everyone.
  • We do have a lot of work to do Eric!

Gotta keep focused and treat it like a real business and not a lottery or something of chance.
  • Krisi
Well, all we can do is laugh and keep our sense of humor. I learned growing up that you have to be able to laugh at yourself and not take everything so personal. It's just more motivation to prove to everyone that I can do it, and it doesn't require taking advantage of people or running them over- great challenge!
  • roberthirabayashi
A relatively new downline member is getting their first enrollment this week! Leverage in action!!!
  • So glad to have a community of professionals to surround myself with. Remember, we are the sum of the people we hang around with. So lets keep raising the bar on our profession and as Ghandi says "be the change we want to see in the world."
  • Hai
Too funny and of course, funny material for Hollywood. Learn to laugh while we stay on course with the real work ahead... real growth comes with many funny obstacles too!
  • dterrell
Yes, we have a lot of work to do and I up for the challenge!!! Thanks for the info regarding the movie.
  • theuns
    Thank You Erice

it is a pitty that so many networkers do it the wrong way around but we need to go out and help them.

    Regards
    Theuns
  • I thought I was ugly when I started. Sheesh. Eric, thanks for showing us how to be *professionals* in this industry.
  • shaisamuel
    Thanks Eric,

this is very important to know. I went searching the net to find more about this movie, and found out its old stuff. Was published in 2006 on http://www.webraw.com/quixtar/archives/2006/09/believe_the_movie.php !!!

I totally agree with you, we all need to change the way we promote our deals and to create the right expectations. Yes, we need to learn how keep our relationships with people who don't want to be evolved. If I need to define it in ONE WORD it would be to ATTRACT. And this movie is a good reminder.

So, yes, we have a better way, and lets tell it t the world,

My name is Shai and I am a network marketing professional.
  • jc13
Good CSI work. Thanks for not accepting that reality as now.
  • Luis Gringras
    Eric

We should make a movie too, showing every one the real thinks than a profesional do in this industry.
  • jbledsoejr
Thanks for sharing this! The videos were actually pretty funny...unfortunately they were funny because they have some truth to them. We do have WORK to do! NMPRO is doing a lot to equip & encourage us to truly change the perception of our profession. Thanks as always Eric for sharing great content!
  • Eric, Todays message should be a terrific motivator for each of us to help make the necessary Shift in perception of the Multilevel Network Marketing Profession. In order for this to happen, each of us needs to raise the bar, one on one, as individuals and leaders in our own organization. Only then will the industry be a truly respected business model that will attract professionals as a business of choice. When this happens we will move from street Credibility to GRAVITAS and be respected business professionals by our peers in the matrix!
  • julie67
The movie clip was crazy. I guess it is to be expected. We can laugh and learn what not to do. We do have a lot of work to do. I need to start with me.
  • Be generous and share, do not take advantage of people. Treat people like you would like to be treated. True there is a lot of sharing that needs to go on. The real work begins when your financial adviser calls to let you know the FDIC only insures up to 100,000.00 in your account and there is a need to do some work.
  • katie n
Testing to see if I've stopped the email thread
  • alltheverybest
OMG! It is so scary that people can and do have such bigoted viewpoint. I do feel that there is a chance that some will go to see it because they think it ill be funny (like the Office) and will come away believing that is the reality of NM... We will have to work really hard to redress the balance. I think it is better to face it and say 'This is how NOT to do it', rather than hope it will just go away.
  • Frank Diaz
Just be faithful and sincere and do it right--- personnal development
  • dannyscottlynn
funny, but a lot of work to do. Lets get started starting with number 1 (me)
  • juliehawkins
All of us professionals in network marketing know how to work a honest business with Integrity. These people on this video are plum stupid. LOL

    Julie Hawkins
  • jeffreyhall
It will take a concerted effort by all of us who have a concern about our profession to make others look at and say I want do be there! But then there is the question will we want many of them?
  • onemartymac
That movie looks funny and scary. It took a pro to get me into MLM and I will conduct myself only one way "professionally". There is a lot of work to do. Keep up your good work.

    Thanks
  • enrique62
Lottery mentality is how I was brought into the business. Since the compensation plan is binary.
I was told to find 2 and everyone will find two. Well, I found 4 and nobody did anything.
  • gabor73
    Hi Eric,

I won't be suprized if multinational companies would be behind it, who start to realize they can't enslave people for 30 years for few euro or dollar/week, if they succed with network marketing. So they make a joke from our profession to make sure no more people want it. This film is nothing more than covert hostility toward our profession. But the good news is: People will trust you, your friends will, they know who you are and will listen to you. :)
  • Well...that is why I work hard to FISH and not to CATCH my prospects...I need to be proud of them!
  • ishapkina
yes, its a perfect opportunity to grow, being in an uncomfortable situation with people throwing this crap at you
  • Mark Dickson
Yes we have alot work to do. I had some of that used on me and have done some myself in my early years. ouch
  • Reputation is so important. Unfortunatlly one bad apple can spoil the basket. We must overcome this.
  • dalejv
We have brought a lot of this on ourselves with the never ending advertisements of quick money, systems that do all the work for you, so simple anyone can do it, etc. We can change it with honesty and truly caring for our customers and the people want to work with.
  • Jose Lopez
WOW! I have to admit it was painful to watch the clip. Honestly not because I can relate to the bad practices exposed, but just they are laughing at something I love, something that had literaly changed my life. Anyway, we definitely have a lot of work to do. Question. What one simple action can we start doing today that can make the difference? Anyone is welcome to share their thoughts. Finally, Why don't we get together a create a movie that tells the right story about our profession? There so many good stories that we can do not one, but several excellent films about it.
  • Eric, it is kind of funny and it might be the perfect jumping off place to pitch a legitimate business opportunity, after all it is a comedy. I have mixed feelings about it...I am the newbie!
  • HoracioMejia
Certainly, there is a lot of work to do for the reputation of Network Marketing. That . I will watch the video with objectivity. Maybe I have even done the wrong stuff. Thank you for the "reality check", sometimes very much needed.
  • That movie was brutal. My guess is the creator of the movie is one of the types who got into the business with the wrong idea, put in minimal effort, folded up shop, and is now trying to find a way to get rich quick off of the experience. Just my thought.
  • tylerwhite
If it stings a little it's because we have seen or done some of that crap in the past
  • LisaR2010
Yikes! Not want I wanted to hear today, and, it's reality. Thanks for the coaching and great advice on how to overcome these challenges in our business. Until next time.

I can see we do have a lot of work to do and yes the movie is ugly.
  • karivankleef
The video was funny. In every profession you have to learn the right way to conduct business. There is a lot of hard work but we can do it.
  • bghcancun
That all is on our hands. We´ll make the difference

I saw that movie trailer about a year ago... I thought it was funny.
  • tyroneholmes
Yes its true we have come a long way,but still have a long way to go.Thanks Eric for sharing.
  • That video is very funny and scary at the same time. We must work to overcome this stereotype. We can do it!
  • Robertdiggsjr
I going to check the movie out
  • hcapcarp
That is a tough act to follow
  • Thanks for sharing that! I had heard about the movie, didn't know what was the title. It shows that we do have some work to do,then again it is also a good thing they made a movie about it. We can now educate people more about what our industry is all about, and show them how professionals like our selves really do it.
  • These clips about the movie "Believe" is hilarious. I see opportunity in this movie, by demonstrating two things to those who see it and further doubt network marketing: 1) the opportunity to show that we as professionals don't go about our business in that manner and 2) the opportunity to show that our products are legitimate and effective.
  • Daniel Glez.Peña
HI ERIC I THINK WE HAVE A LOT WORK TO DO WITH OUR PROFESION,MLM IT´S NOT EASY BUT IF YOU WORK WORK WORK AND LEARN,YOU CAN DO IT.

    SALUDOS.

Yes i agree that we havr to be the change we want to this profession.

WE HAVE A BETTER WAY! WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO INORDER TO SHOW IT TO THE WORLD. WE HAVE TO BE PROFESSIONALS! LET'S WORK ON IT.
THANK YOU ERIC FOR YOUR "NETWORKMARKETINGPRO" PROJECT.
  • kellylanley
Sites like this, educating people like us = changed misperceptions in our industry!
  • Tarashon Broomes
i agree eric that our objective as a network marketing professional is to build a network of like mind individuals and not taking advantage of people .. good stuff
  • I watched the trailor, its really hillarios!!

We really need to work hard in order to change the perception of people by being the change we want to be!!

    Thanks
  • Personal development is the key and hopefully people will think before they act.
  • quintaser
The only thing that must stop us is Dead, we are used to hear those kind of things, and from our relatives, friends, etc. Just keep on going, improve every day, never listen the dog´s barks, thats why Eric is so commited to dignify the MLM industry, thats why we are every day learning to become professionals.

Hearts Up, go back to work

From Puebla Mexico, I am Sergio Quintana
  • "Hearts up" I like that! Good advice! Take the good and leave the rest!
  • amberaimshigh
Yes! It is up to us to be professional! It's great that there are so many people out there looking for us! Have a great day!
  • Ouch! We do have a better way. Lots of work to do.
  • Funny clip.

All we have to do is to stay honest at all times and use a well constructed system to do the talking.
Like you said in an earlier show Eric, invite to an event/process and let the event take it from there.
  • randers1
work, work, work. A little negative towards our industry, but educational. Personal development is the glue, holding our network together.
  • John Spardella
HEY EVERYONE WAnt to challenge yourselves even further thank Eric suggested? Go back and watch the Top 21 shows and comment on them also. You wouldn't believe the Gold I'm finding there and I thought I'd watched every show from the begining. Well, either I missed some or the old memory isn't as good as I thought, lol.
  • anthonyviglietta
Thanks Eric! I can't wait to check out this video. We need to send the sceptics to THIS site (networkmarketingpro.com)!
  • dstfa96
I got some great messages from this episode. You are absolutely correct Eric we do need to be the change that we want to see in the network marketing profession. Also I agree with you 100% that Personal development is the glue that holds our business together, as we develop our network develops.
  • Oh yeah! We do have work to do...we were in one of those companies that really did feel like a cult. Our friends and family wouldn't have anything to do with us. The perception of network marketing has changed greatly since our first business in 95' yet we still have a long ways to go and I'm all up for it. Thanks again Eric for all that you do!

Eric I just had a conversation with one of my distributors in Canada about this. Can't wait for him to watch this.
  • I've heard our industry has less perceived baggage in Asia and Europe. Is this true? On another note, why are there so many faceless avatars on this forum. Upload a picture people!
  • nickgarrison
It is amazing how certain profession have amateurs who give the profession a bad name. It makes those of us who work hard to be professionals a lot tougher job. We can only affect the world one person at a time. So by making the calls and acting professional we can change the thinking on network marketing one person at a time. I like to ask the question. Is there a right way to do what you do and a wrong way. Well there is a right way to do network marketing and a wrong way.
  • Melli
There is a lot work to do. Let´s start together.
  • karen and ian
We are team Canada - we are up for the challenge. We have just started watching # 210, as a challenge from someone else.
  • I look forward to watching this.. should be funny.. I'm sure it is funny but just like you stated Eric , I am sure it is sadly true..
  • net22
Thank you, I will watch it.
  • sobering...we can make the difference

I couldnt agree more, I am a physician and in order to stake my reputation on an MLM company it must be handled professionally. I think that all walks of life desire this and want this for their business, you are someone that I look up to in this business because of your intense professionalism. Keep it up!
  • ericworre
    Thanks Doc!

we should always be able to laugh at ourselves. it seems it's always the same old arguments. but then we've all met folks that promote the actions in the "mockumentary"
  • Agneta Rebo
Yes we have a lot to do overcoming everyones "believes"
  • thanks for sharing the movie trailer. Ouch it is ugly.
  • Lisette
I´m going to pass on these link to my colleagues.
  • PaulineP
Alot of truth here and I have been guilty of some of it. But it is our wish for all to be more prosperous that propel us to be the problem child. We are an industry plagued with non professionals and like any industry, evolve, sort out and create leaders and true differences....for the better..
  • rmonte
I think this movie will help us teach people what not to do. We are now important enough for the film industry to mock us. It is not uncommon for great ideas to first be mocked before they become mainstream. There is a lot of work ahead but we are definitely on the right path.

Sometimes it is so frustrating when somebody is not informed properly. I had an experience where someone was not interested in the industry at all. He is a great public speaker - loves to do motivational speaking - has a goal of helping children around the world - and wants to grow a business fast. I told him he really needed to open his mind to network marketing and that he was really missing the boat. He eventually agreed to take a look at the business I was involved in. When I finished - he was really excited. I could feel that he really wanted to join me in the business. He said he needed to finish up a few loose ends and that he would like to meet up after the new year. We went to breakfast last weekend. Everything was going great! He told me he was so thankful that I challenged him to open his mind to the industry and that he will forever be greatful. But then he totally caught me off guard. He said he is going to do network marketing - but that he was going to do it with another company. He shared that he had talked to a leader in another company and he was going to work with him. He then began telling me a ton of inaccurate facts about the company I am partnered with. At this point - I did not know the best way to respond. There was part of me that wanted to combat everything he was saying - and there was another part of me that thought the best was to wish him well and let it go. I decided on option 2 but when I left - I felt like I hadn't done my job. This is something I really want to learn how to handle in the best way. I am a total advocate for the industry and I think everyone should be involved. I also know that I work with a great company - but there a LOTS of great companies out there. I also know that the model is relatively the same in all - the corporate partner does all the R&D, shipping, HR, packaging, branding, customer service, etc. and then they count on you to help take it to market. I don't want to get into a pissing match abouut which company is better - because so many of them have similar accolades. But I do feel like the company I am with and the team we have built has something special - and I want to convey that. I am not a fan of pointing out all the negative things about the other company.

What are your thoughts? When you can tell someone is not informed properly - but that they are dead set in their opinion - do you let them go or rival back? Thoughts anyone...
  • jc13
We create the past again every time we tell a story. Tell the story in such a manner that will empower you. That will help create a more empowered future. Sometimes that's hard to understand, but we are the creators of our own mythology and as such send out a vibe the universe will respond to.
  • jessicajablonski
That is a good point. Thanks for the feedback.
  • Javed Iqbal
It’s a sad experience but can be a good learning lesson. If your that prospect is with some other “good company”, then be happy because at least he is in our industry. Still you can have good relationship with him as a friend and “industry fellow”. But if he is not in the right company, sooner or later he will know the truth! I guess every one of us has had experienced the same situation one or more times. Few such experiences are part of the game. No one knows the mystery behind it but it’s the way it is. ACCEPT it and ENJOY it.

How to deal with it? My Tip is: Be the PROMOTER of your specific company AND also be the overall AMBASSADOR of the network marketing “industry/profession”. Usually, general public have bad image about the “industry”, so they see all the companies (good or bad) with same paradigm. Increase your competition with other industries or corporate world BUT decrease your competition within NWM industry. Increase the size of the cake by bringing millions of out-side-the-industry-people into the industry. Promote healthy and positive CO-OPERATION within the NWM industry. To say that “MY Company is the one & only that has the ULTIMAT Profile, Products and Plan (PPP)” will not serve the PROFESSION. Because no such company exist yet :). A better professional approach is to say that my company (PPP) is “one of the best” (among the many other best companies). That approach will serve the NMW profession.

I greatly appreciate Eric Wore and many other professionals who took the charge and set a good example. This site is for what? Is it for any company or for the “whole industry”? Off course it’s for the WHOLE industry.

    - Be a PROMOTER of the company and AMBASSADOR of the industry
    - COMPETITION with corporate world and CO-OPERATION within the industry

You may agree or you may not agree!

    Hey Javed -
Thanks for taking some time to respond back to me. You gave me some great feedback. In the moment an experience like this is frustrating - but it really is just another stepping stone in this journey. I totally agree that you have to be a promoter of both. This is why I love what Eric is doing with this site. He is really bringing our industry together. Thanks again for your thoughts. Great response!
  • jc13
    Great response. Very helpful.
  • gabisahar
    Dear Eric,
    I got it.
We build a network of like minded people, sharing products that have value in the marketplace, and are rewarded for that distribution. And, as we develop, our network develops.
    Thank you Eric,
    I got it.
  • highimpact0406
Interesting switch you made from yesterday, however, a realistic perspective on what most people think about this industry. We are definitely on a crusade of sorts, to change the paradigm of how people think of network marketing. Hopefully, all that are committed to forge ahead and be dedicated to this industry, are doing so in the most professional way, and if they haven't been...they will start now! I do have another profession that I am in and have been for 25 years, and always am challenged by those who choose to tarnish the reputation, but the flip side of that is, for those of us who are not the "spoilers", there will be a lot more respect for you at the end of the day, and the people that you are working with directly will realize it. Thanks for helping people to see the light in this matter and stay committed to being a true "professional".
  • Thanks Eric, Products and Services with solid value certainly helps.
  • Gustavo Muñoz - Colombia
the work yhat has to be done is the result of great teams and people compromised with their dreams. One thing that I have learned is that this industry is going to explode within the next ten years as a result of the work we will do
  • John Spardella
For the 20+ years I've been aound the network marketing industry I have commented and proclaimed how much I detest the "Cult" like mantality that exists in a number of companies. Not all of them. I'm glad Eric has brought this topic, of changing MLM perception, to his viewers and the public. I believe this forum will be paramount in changing the public opinion of this wonderful industry
  • Everybody makes mistkes at the beginning of his/her networking career because they don't teach this subject at school.
You Eric are doing a great job educationg people and helping them become real professionals in our business.

    My biggest thank you.
  • socorro
thank you Eric, I will watch the movie, and as always will keep on getting better.
  • I look at that movie and it reminds me of myself 5 years ago. I think this movie is going to do a lot of initial damage to our industry but damage that must occur for all of the MLM idiots to wake up and start treating this like a profession. Love it as always!
  • TomSchulte
I can't stop laughing! I think we all have met a few people who "believe" just a little too much. It is hilarious. I think the movie is great as long as you're not one of those pandering idiots then you should not be offended by it. We have a long way to go lol.
  • I'm ready to go pro lets start working
I have gotten a lot of people thinking that what I have is just another scam with cheap products
I really believe in network marketing and the product I have in front of me at this time
    Lets get started
  • I have gone up and down in my current company, and I have made a lot of stupid things... not all. I hear and see people doing such stupidities. I believe it all comes from an inner feeling of feeling lesser, or trying to evade what's sometimes difficult, thus using strategies and cons...

There is a moral standard to fight for in every action I undertake. And only this way can we open the way for the golden era the "oldies" talk about.

    I'm in!
  • João,
    I appreciate your point.
The moral standard is the test of my self awareness.
This is why I so love the network marketing profession. I am challenged many times each day to renew my professional and ethical commitment. And whether I meet each challenge or stumble over it, it is always another wedge in my personal ascent to personal mastery. The economic consequences - though important - are incidental.
  • I completely agree with you. Every step along the way raises the awareness of what I'm doing (or not) and why.

It is an amazing playground for growth. Right now I'm not doing it for money anymore. I'm doing it to shred the fears and the "I'm too cool syndrome".

    Having fun.
    Great to reconnect with you.
  • fc34615
Every single company has challenges to market their products, whether is location, competition, availability, etc..Our main challenge as Network Marketing Pros is to change the mentality of those whom we share the idea with in a candid and frank way. With a great a company that offers breakthrough products, a wonderful management support, and an incredible compensation package, we should be able to be seen a messengers of a great opportunity.
    My best,
    Fernando.
  • bdsfortune
great clip! This business will make all of us alot stronger. If it where easy everyone would do it. I love being challenged nothing better than to persavere. Just do it!
  • When I am down and feeling overwhelmed, you give me renewed hope. Thank you as always, Eric.
  • Rosa7
Like always you are great ,personel devolpment is great ,i'm learning everyday a little bit .If you wan't the make something of your live is this very important
  • Yes, this is an industry that we need lots of patience, hardwork plus ready to take challenges, this is not a 'quick rich scheme', 'dogs will bark and the caravans will move forward'.
This showing that our industry is growing and the morons who failed (who they need to fail) are upset more and more, it won't affect our industry badly but it will be another advertisement for us i think.
  • Well that was funny, but maybe not if I was new to the business. You'll find out more on tape 24!! You have to love that!

Oh yes there's lots to do!
  • coltsco
Unfortunately, we've all met people who believe this stereotype exists. You are so right that we need to continue to be professional in every way to help stomp out these beliefs. Thanks for bringing everyone help in becoming true professionals in this business.
  • Yep we have job to do......with your guidance and us all taking on board the note of being "coachable" , having the ability to "listen" and then take "action "we will be able to achieve a point of difference in this profession to take us to that "tipping point".......some of us have had to do it in other business during the years so why not network marketing........lets go !!
  • aileens
I find the networkmarkers more professional than when I joined 12 years ago, if anything, not promoting enough. but times are achanging !
  • pech
Immediately it seems like an impossible and insurmountable challenge. But if the firms and the networkers do a professional job, then of course we can succeed. I think that if more companies and networkers are doing a professional job, the easier it becomes for us all.
  • ronaldvandomburg
thanks Eric for this inspiring call for action. I didn't know much about network marketing, so I'm gettin a better and better picture about what is is and what is isn't
  • I was hoping shipping was going to be outrageously expensive. But it's only $2 dollars.
  • garyparmenter
How funny? The movie "Believe", brings a great oppurtunity. It opens the door for more people to become aware. That there is another way. It will be up to us to show networking marketing can be done in a professional manner.
  • If the industry was not making an impact and having wide-spread effect, there wouldn't be a satire. In any new generation (in our case of network marketing professionals), we can take the good and adopt it, take what is wrong and fix it/loose it. We know right from wrong.

This movie certainly addresses real experiences and perceptions. In our training, which is vital, we found that whatever questions there are raised are considered valid and natural. We found that by listening to what the resitance is, we can look to improve by answering/addressing those concrens/questions into the next presentation, or reconsidering the "claim".

The challenge is to change from where I am (and my perceptions) to having one hundred percent firm belief in what we are doing based upon fundamental truths with a genuine intention to help others. Belief in the products/services we offer and belief in the company we represent. Practicing the fundamentals of following the training and using the company approved tools/materials/system. Genuine intentions based on relationships and a desire to help others. These goals seem common in our company's training and your messages.

I, for one, need help to keep these goals in front. Please continue to promote the professional way of being a network marketer and help us navagate, adopt and filter out so that what come across is a worthwhile profession of respect and efectiveness.

...something about the promised land and the way to get there...

There is a lot of work to do. It's worth it. I'm up for it! I'm in!
  • jlconner
We do need to get to work and prove this industry is a great way to build a business. I still see distributors that have no shame. I hope wwe can weed them out
  • DianaValdez
Yeap, it's a funny one, and it's very sad too that people do believe all that crap. Interesting that sometimes is people that had been mistreaded by the boss or underpaid the ones who make fun, they rather keep that position because it doesn't mean a risk for them, they don't understand the damage it does to their self esteem and also they think that job is forever.
  • janetrajala
I had this view of the industry up until about a year ago when I met the company I'm currently associated with. Having said this, I still run into reps with other companies whose behavior is very characteristic of the behavior portrayed in the "mockumentary". Hats off to you for trying to "clean" up our industry.
  • It's all about attraction marketing, bringing value to the people by providing solutions to their problems, positioning yourself as a leader, and building a network.
  • I can't blame some people for feeling this way about the industry. My FIRST experience was a company called 2Xtreme, and the founder, John Polk, was indicted. Most people would have let that tarnish their perception about the industry, but the reality is, nothing is perfect.

There are good people just as bad people. And there are good companies just as well as bad companies. I really hope that one day, people will see the good that network marketing has created. When Enron was in the media, many people felt sour about Corporate America. However, the same doesn't apply to our industry. One bad company and thousands of unprofessional distributors, make it a challenge.

But there will always be people that can discern the good and the bad, and that's who we should talk to.
  • BetterCoffee.dk

    Eric, you are absolutely right.
This movie only has legs to stand on because there are people in our profession who behave like this.

I can't think of anyone I know who is like that, but I know I used to be afraid to come accross as that kind of moron. I hope I never did! :)

You have been a big part of the influence I've seeked out to bolster my beliefs and learn more about the profession.

    Jens
  • shawncyr
You're right Eric, we do have some work to do.
The mocumentary made me sick to my stomach. All it serves to do is bring proof to the minds of doubters and haters that isn't presented in an unbiased way.
It's interesting, you never really hear about a movie about the misguided and delusional entrpreneurs that seem to fail within 5 years. Heck, you don't even see many movies about those that make it!
So, people that fail in mlm, or as entrepreneurs, fail in common. They don't work, they don't have a great product, they don't care about their clients. I see it as that simple.
Oh well, there were those in grade school and highschool that thought it was funny and entertaining to be idiotic and fail, now look at them.
What hurts the most, and made me the most sick, was that there are people out there that have dreams and know they were meant to be than mediocre and this picks on them.
All in all people are entitled to an opinion.
  • ulla99
This business is over 50 yars old so it is time to become accepted, serious and professional. Let us do it together!
  • brianhepner
I did not have this perception of this industry before I came into this industry six month's ago. Now I know others do and knowledge is power. I am more professional with this knowledge. Brian Hepner
  • raybeattie
Oh, man does this bring back memories of the first meetings I attend in '70s. What a reminder of how NOT to work your business. Yep, we got a long way to go.
  • gillym1
Yes much work to do as you say - let's keep on keeping on and eventually the world will see that there is 'A Better Way' - Thank you Eric - Brilliant again!
  • kayanita
yes, This is tough to overcome pre- froemed ideas but it is people like you who are changing the image for network mktg. Thank God for the truth of sincere Network Marketing Professionals. Big job for all of us but together we Can do it!
  • survivor65
"Approached by more than than Hari Krishnas?" That's hilarious! It's really sad that network marketing has been given such a label...all from events of the past.
Yes, we have got work to do; for ourselves and for the masses. Soon, it may be the only option many people have. Being forerunners, we should show them the hard work and rigorous tenacity it takes to actually succeed and that we are generally not scammers. This is the future! We should make it more inviting with the truth, not "make a million a week" in less than 90 days.
  • tommycone
Hi Eric, Their are some ugly events in this trailer and we have to work harder to provent this point of view. We do have a better way!!
  • In order to make things right, we first have to understand/acknowledge what's wrong. "Believe" helps. "Mockumentary" - what a clever movie category name.

Sign outside a Hotel: "Help! We need inn-experienced people."

  • gmeyerson
Ok, so why don't we all send testimonials into about our positive experiences with MLM. Think they would post them?
  • ericworre
Probably not. Give it a try and let us know! :)
  • YES, we have a lot of work to do.
The movie is funny, I had no chance to watch it yet, but I have it on my HHD.
  • Donna Wheaton
OMG! do we have work to do? I was watching the trailers and all I could do was to shake my head, because I feel sad people feel that way about the industry that I am proud to be a part of. It is ignorance due to a lack of knowledge. It is OUR responsibility to change what some people think of our industry not by arguing with them, but by walking the walk. Allowing people to see with their own eyes that what they have heard and seen is not true.

Its like judging the whole basket of apples by just one apple. WE HAVE WORK TO DO!
  • The awful thing here is that I have witnessed most of these things and hands up have also done some of them. I went between rauocus laughter and complete shame and embarrassment. However, a good job done. This would be great to show new people what we are not. This might get the truth into them a bit quicker.

We certainly have a lot of work to do and we have to be that change. Back to personal development and professional training.

I would like to pose the question: Have we as yet got the training right? Attraction marketing has to be a better way but .... it can be much slower.Retention rates however are much higher. Could it be that Inviting skills are one of the key elements?
  • jc13
What I'm beginning to understand is that a long-term approach allows you to put lots of people into the pipeline and wait for people to raise their hand and say I'm ready. They will respect your patience. As far as contacting and inviting - resist sales and persuasion. It is a relationship and events business. Multiple exposures allow people to warm up to you and the idea of your business. I changed from conversations about our product to conversations about asking people to listen to something or look at something and so far at least the conversation isn't done when I hang up the phone. the fortune is in the follow up. We'll see.
  • gmolina
Until I became a Network Professional myself, I had this type of mentality.. I always walked the other direction when someone I new was trying to sell me something or wanted me to become part of this group that was the next best thing to apple pie.

It wasn't until I started to understand the basic concepts of true NM, and being around other pro NM people that I was able to see the great benefit that NM had to offer... You said it before, surrounding yourself with like minded people is what one should do if they want to be successful. That is what I also believe, I always tell everyone, "if you rub elbows with millionaire's, you to will eventually become one" and the same if you hang out with the wrong crowd.

True- there is a lot of work that must be done to eradicate the misconceptions of NM, but with people like yourself consistently trying to make a difference in what people feel and say, will eventually spill over and make that change. Thanks again for the positive insight you bring to our community...
  • susanclark

#218 - We Have WORK to Do - We have a lot of work to do to be considered a professional and also to get the acceptance that network marketing is a viable business. I haven't watched the video yet, but I will - the challenge is to clean network marketing up. Look forward to the movie.

  • rayrios
After viewing the trailers it is funny how mix emotions take over, happy to know that there are ignorant people that will provide the services we need; or mad because this ignorance will keep people that can be freed tied to their broke mentality shackels. I won't pay .001 cents for this movie. We have work to do!
  • lopazelasane
Your absolutely right Eric we have a very long way to go because people still have the perception that Network Marketing is a lottery ticket. I believe the perception will change one day....just not in our lifetime.

#217 - Be Your Own Boss - I could not leave a comment last night as I could not log into Disqus - Bottomline is that with all the excuses people give for not starting their own businesses and with the information fron CNN that now is the time for people to go into business for themselves - look at network marketing. Network marketing negates all the negative things people think about starting their own businesses.
  • Will be interesting to see what waves this movie creates when it is released in April.

    Thanks for posting
  • TAbrams
Comical trailer I must say. There will always be people that mock our industry, profession and will try and sway the masses and potentially make a buck. Sad thing is anyone that has doubt about themselves, their abilities or the misconceptions of our profession feel it has now been reinforced.

Just as in any business or profession there will always be some that will give it a bad rap. It goes for any profession...i.e. the old used car salesman perception... In any business you have to build it with integrity, professionalism, and be held to certain standards & values.

Anyone who is serious about building a business will take the time to educate themselves, surround themselves with successful people and set in place, maintain and plug into a system that adheres and teaches these values.

Education is key and has to be ongoing.

It is up to us to be the change as you stated, and it will be an evolutionary process and is not going to happen over night..
  • rayrios
Thank you Eric for helping us stay focus and helping understand that Newwork Marketing is a TRUE profession. It is OUR responsibility to not only learn, but teach, coach and mentor our associates to become professional. We are here. Present and accounted for.
  • Nancy
It will take a long time to change this profession's image, but we need to persevere. It is also why we need to focus on recruiting quality professionals who will help us change.
  • Let there be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me....I love that song! Yes, we do have a lot of work to do, but it is sooooooo worth it! Thanks for sharing the great message and clips.
  • quincy
Seems like its going to be a funny movie but completely the wrong idea. A little sad in the same because people believe what they see on TV and movies to be true. Lets continue to be professionals and do things the right way a prove movies like this wrong.
  • rasdaniels
Thank you Eric. I'm up to the challenge.
  • Irina
I agree, we have a LOT of work to do...
  • Claire Cameron

The CNN news clip of start your own business in 2010
    has received great reviews. Thanks
  • germanjaramillo

    -GJ
  • kgadol
Will go watch the movie ... Ready to learn, grow, improve and build ... I commit to being an asset and not a liability for my company and our industry.
  • gerrynickerson
    I will start with me.
  • JudasPierce
i agree, we do have a lot of work to do...lets get started
  • This movie is proof the industry is a profession. The next piece missing is a weekly TV series based out of Boston that makes fun of the profession and interfaces with the legal and police farce comedies on the tube.

There are aspects of this movie while funny are not true. The subtle put down on sales techniques used by insurance, real estate, siding, windows, roofing and car salesman all demonstrates the validity of those professions. This profession while it has use for sales tools is really about relationship building first and foremost. Been to a doctor in the USA lately? They will all soon be paid the same as librarians and provide similar assistance. ... go read this... take two aspirin and call my service in the morning...

I especially like the knock on the current "new school" marketing. The current rage of attraction marketing and the selling of generic 'tools' any home business can use to promote itself are no different than companies chastised for selling the same products. The difference is today's online ‘Gurus’ sell the picks and shovels without any map or mention where the gold is. Do a great job selling their ‘system’ and you get a call from the Guru on what he or she is really promoting?! How many people in this industry promote something claiming it is the solution while it takes a dozen employees to make it work and that fact is seldom disclosed or hidden? A home business that requires any employees to make it to the $100k/month club is NOT a home business but a modified franchise opportunity.

The ‘secret’ in this industry as well as every other is … Until someone knows you, likes you and trusts you; you are just a stranger promoting and offering some new con.
  • I saw the trailer also and it was disturbing that someone would try to ridicule such a great profession. The only profession that offers the life style and freedom that we all desire. We have a lot of work to do and we have to do it the correct way. There are plenty of movies mocking all sorts of professions i.e. lawyers, doctors, accountants, etc. so we should not let one movie bother us. It just means we are gaining visibility and to some it is disturbing. We have a better way.
  • Yes, I hope that will push all the leaders to educate their downline and promote Tim Sales more... Is everyone aware that Larry King interviewed Tim Sales in August? That helps to turn this around!
  • Very interesting movie and trailers. You are so right that "we have to get our professional message" out to the masses. Stuff like this just makes it more difficult when new people who don't have the right mindset yet to think that THIS IS THE WAY IT IS!! Which it is not as far as I am concerned. Yes I have had a lot of the quips and sayings thrown at me when I was first introduced to MWM but I prevailed because I know we can change..
  • penaltybox1
This is so typical of people who want to get rich quick and fail , "It can't be me so it must be mlm" But we know better !!!!!
  • kristibateman
Thanks Eric. We DO have a LOT of work to do.
  • AdvocareJax
I saw that trailer on Randy Gage's site last week. It may prove to be an obstacle, but I believe it will cause all of us professionals to be more professional. Champions are built in times of adversity.
  • Nancy Eldred
Believe:The Movie - I loved it - it's a SATIRE as stated in the promo's - The actors did a great job of behaving like idiots. For me this movie is the "coming out of the closet" for the public's misconception of The Network Marketing Industry. Some NWM companies that ran their business like this and some still do, we can't avoid that, so don't try to.

It's a great opportunity for us to educate the public that this industry is professional, and needs to be taken seriously. As stated before, if the company you are with has meaningful products, brings value to the marketplace then WOW .. it's a WIN-WIN in situation
  • drkay
The trailer to the movie was disturbing, just as you said and more because I have heard some of those identical phrases and have possibly used them myself. This movie will be mixing the good with the bad and lumping it all together as bad. What you said, however, redeemed it all for me. We DO promote meaningful products and services which have value in the marketplace, building a network of like-minded people who are rewarded for that distribution method. I have always found that products distributed thru network marketing companies are actually superior to products found in the marketing place. It is unfortunate that many will see this movie and miss their own "way out" of this financial mayhem available thru network marketing, and settle for their traditional job as their only salvation... worse yet, wait for someone else to "bail them out". On the up side, we who see this satirical attack on MLMs, can decide to step up to the plate and become the model that others will follow, a responsible, reliable example of integrity in our industry. Now is not the time to hide our heads in fear or shame at the irresponsible behavior of others who have given network marketing a black eye; now is the time to say, "Bring it on".
  • Thanks for this post. I decided not to watch this movie as it reminds me of how easy it is for these critics to put some rubbish on the internet and then start to move up the Google rankings for the search term Network Marketing. I feel sorry for the new people working hard only to find their new person Google NM and get taken out of the business because of a history of scammers unfortunately 'using' Network Marketing as a disguise for their own personal and questionable motives.

Question......What would you do to avoid a new person being taken out of our industry by Googling our profession and what do you think our profession could do about this negative impression on the search engines?

By the way.....I'd like to think that 'over time' the message created by the good people in our profession wil swamp the 'old' bad messages....I just worry that if we are not proactive in attacking this negative perception it could take too long for some great people taking a look at us just now.
  • Marion
I believe we have to be professional at all times.
Unfortunately the timing of this movie is going to be difficult for beginners in the industry, as the are not yet armed with all the skills needed to properly handle what they are going to be dealt, regarding peoples misconception of MLM.
  • daddykekere
It's as if some evil forces are trying to keep the masses blinded from an opportunity to free their lives from the bondage. Why now of all times in a nasty economy as this, when people are losing their shirts, houses and families will this kind of mockery come out? O Lord, open their eyes that they might see.
Thanks Eric, we really do have a lot of work to do.
  • david_high
I believe that conducting business in a professional way with honesty and integrity will eventually overcome these negative stereotypes about the business.
  • chipc
I run into this all the time. Tim Sales has been a great embassador of NM. His "Brilliant Compensation" video has helped me get past the "pyramid" and MLM objection several times.
  • 'For warned is for armed'
I don't know about that all I know is....
Very funny clips, glad I am a network marketing professional

  • Wow, That trailer was really shocking! I remember, many years ago, how I rejected people peddling MLM prods... They seemed so anxious to sell me something and had those huge fake smiles, talked about fortunes to be made and had horrid shoes on...It was hard to believe that they were doing ME a favor...
Now that I found something I believe in, I can't help but be surprised when the person I talk to looks doubtfull: I never insist and I leave as soon as possible to give her some space... I call a couple of days later, though, to say hi and see if she will ask me something about the business. I don't mention it though... Patience and timing.
  • alltheverybest
You are SO right! The shoes say a lot!
  • ericworre
    Horrid shoes.... hahahahaha
  • Well, yes: horrid shoes. People should know that the shoes say it all. If you are doing well you can be exentric with the way you dress but you will have good quality shoes. Ha!
  • RNDawn
As we develop ourselves and lead by example, this perception will begin to change. I think your point about taking the responsibility to personally call out the people we see doing things unprofessionally is fabulous. This is a great way of impacting the profession from the inside out. Thanks for the great post.
  • marvalouslife1
Oh yea! NetworkMarketing is all about hard work and integrity. there morons in this industry, the same as in every other place.
i'm working hard to teach my networkmarketers, that they are ambassdors of the industry and they should act with integrity and as professionals.
thanks for the lesson. thanks for the link!

    Ron Ackerman - Israel
  • liora
A movie can not affect your Network if you are professional.
  • This makes me want to let more people know about network marketing. Network marketing is an industry. There may be poorly behaved people or deceptive companies, and that might be what stands out. But it's kind of like, so many students drop out of college, so no one should pursue higher education. The reality is that people need to have what it takes to reach the goal. Do the home work assignments and do well on the tests and whatever is required to graduate if they are going to school. It's not the school's fault that some people do not graduate. The same thing with MLM. Some are willing to put time and effort to get where they want to be, and some are not. When the latter fails, somehow it is MLM industry's fault. I have not been in network marketing too long, but I've seen real people with integrity being very successful. And I just know that this IS a better way. Now I'll go tell the world (in a legitimate business way. :))
  • billrogers
Yes we do have our work cut out for us. Society has developed such an entiltlement mentality and lottery way of thinking. We have the media and politicians to primarily thank for this. Belief, hope, faith, integrity, hard work are all what we need to stay focused on. Yes, we do have a better way and our profesionalism and leadership will conquer.
  • Bjorgli
Oh, how disgusting. I couldn't manage to see the whole trailer; it's not even funny. There can't possibly be representatives behaving like that?
  • hillin
Yes a lot of work to do but time is on our side, yes it is.
  • We do have a lot of work to do, but ultimately it is up to the individual to choose their options. Of couse, not everyone is going to agree with us (Network Marketing), but they are the individuals who will continue doing what they are doing expecting different results.
  • sbratt
iTS A SHAME THE MOVIE REFLECTS WHAT MOST PEOPLE THINK OF OUR PROFEESION!!! ITS OUR JOB TO CHANGE THAT PERCEPTION!
  • smreed
Wow that movie was just brutal. I can only suppose that the author of this mock-u-mentory had a lottery mentality and a get rich quick attitude. I 'believe' good alway prevails. Having professionalism and network marketing pro will help us all make the difference.
  • Tony
WOW! We sure do have a lot of work to do. Unfortunately, a lot of what's in this movie isn't just satirical. There are a few books and tapes sellers out there have a lot to answer for.
  • I saw this when Randy Gage posted it on Twitter and cringed! At first, I thought it was network marketers spoofing on network marketers, until I realized that it wasn't.

Yes, we do have a lot of work to do. A LOT of work to do! Leading by example is crucial to making sure people don't lump us into that same category.

I think there are people like this in every company and yes, I'm sure we've all seen those even in our own companies. I sickens me when I see this kind of marketing even in my own company.

Case in point, I became a member of my local chamber last year. Come to find out, that there was a guy, from the same company I represent, who signed up several of the local businesses only to disappear a short time later. He's still in the business, still with the company, yet when these business owners need help, he is nowhere to be found and doesn't return their calls.

  • Tina
It is true that many have damaged the reputation of our industry...but we do see it turning around and Eric you are going accelerate that good change for us.
  • Wow - hilarious, but it does sting a bit. Unfortunately, there is some truth to the trailers - brought on by some of the unsavory people that have tarnished our industry.

Yes, we have a LOT of work to do!

    Best,
    Scott
  • Thanks Eric for the video link. It is so true how many people have the idea that network marketing is all about the things they show and talk about. We do have a lot of work to do and time for us all to get started.
I WILL be the change that I want to see in the world in my network marketing business and all that I do.
    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
  • timandtricia
Thanks for the reminder and call to action. For all of us who are core players in the profession this movie is a good reminder of the work we have to do. But, for those of "lesser faith" it may be a serious challenge. Nobody wants to be the butt of the joke. Ridicule is powerful. Your show does a great job of building pride and belief. We need more of this kind of positive leadership at the industry level as well as the work we all do as individuals. We shall overcome.

  • terry gracy
WOW . . . That is a scary scenario. It's not like many people have that exact mindset about our business because of people EXACTLY like those in the clip! We do have alot of clean-up work to do.
  • Pete
You're right, so many scams have come before that it has tainted the industry. Business ethics will be crucial in reaching the tipping point
  • Thanks for the laugh Eric. I thought the movie was hysterical and there is always some truth in irony. The only reason society takes pop shots at Network Marketing is because we threaten the typical work force. Unlike the "typical" workplace, Network Marketers cannot hide behind excuses of ineffective management or others only to quit and find another job. We are successful because we work hard and we are rewarded for our efforts. Because we love what we do, we naturally want to share with others. There is no mystery to Network Marketing. Results are equal to Effort. There is nothing else like it! Thanks as always for bringing these great lessons every day.
  • ritafulton
    Oh My!!

I had to watch a couple of the movies trailers first. How depressing it is to realize that I have ran into some of these very same folks and I can not blame anyone for being on the defensive about NWM. BUT, I do believe we have a better way and we are Professionals with a lot of work to do. Let's get her done!!
  • patrickmcfeely
Eric you are right we do have a lot to do,How do you see when you watch the clips?

Thank you for your time Eric
  • bartonmurray
just follow the golden rule folks, and that "isn't he who has the gold makes the rule"...its do unto others as you would have do unto you....GOLDEN RULE trumps everything!
  • Maxwellhealth
Too many times we see the "obnoxious networker" hover at the fringes and then poof they are gone only to be replaced with another....Lead by example and your behaviour will be most often emulated....
  • Lorraine
ouch!! saw the clips. I have to say funny but hits close to home. I am daily working on over coming these objections from those I approach. You are so right that we have plenty of work ahead of us.
  • Mark_Abrahams
For sure, we have a lot to do - & we are in the right place at the right time. In UK, there is a market - ready, waiting and increasing - which will respect and appreciate as much if not more than other places around the globe, when we get the point over about how professional, ethical, commercial & societally minded we, in NWM, are. How we are is the key - leading to the right strategy and the best, successful action plan. We must BE before we DO.
  • genegrass
Very true... Thanks for bringing the dose of reality back after yesterday's message. I have seen the behavior demonstrated in the clips. and ...probably in the beginning, when I was soooo enthusiastic about my business, I too may have demonstrated touches of these parodies. Becoming a Network Marketing Pro is about mindset and posture, respect and dignity, sincerity and honesty, looking to help others get what they want. This is required to overcome the stereotypes in the movie. We have a better way!
  • lucbehar
LOL! Looks good, funny but ugly!
Just wanted to share that little news with you Eric! Here in Switzerland, after 9 months of unemployment, when someone is ready to start something or that have an entrepreneur state of mind, the agent offer the candidate (at cost of the government) to read and take classes around MLM! That is a change of that conscious that it is a real profession!
Take care and see you soon

  • It is too bad but so many people have the perception of the movie you posted on your video. It is all the people that over promise and under deliver. Yes there is work involved no different than any other profession.

We need to do a video that is the anti-thesis of the movie they did.
  • ybimbalanced
SO true!! We do have a lot of work to do and we need to do it professionally. Thanks.
  • Athletes4Health
I'm new to the profession so I have a lot of work to do so I don't come across like THAT. Thank God for the great resources like NMPro.
  • MLM is a great profession. Just keep working on your business daily and you will succeed!
  • Here as promised. You are right, we have WORK to do.
  • This is awesome!

I know many are fearful that this movie will scare their new people into quitting but ya know what? If a comedic satire movie scares them into abandoning their goals and dreams then it was only a matter of time till they bailed out anyway. I mean come on, if a movie pushes them out imagine how they would respond when a prospect is ugly to them about it.

The high income earners will tell you: if you’re working your business you’re going to have a prospect be ugly to you, it’s going to happen. So I guess I’d rather my team member be pushed out by a movie than a “traumatic” real life experience with a living, breathing human being right?

I believe more good will come out of a movie like this than bad. Like Eric said in a post below: “Best to KNOW the enemy” and in network marketing the enemy is unprofessional-ism.
  • adri0927
    That was horrible, oh man!!
  • JAO
    I AGREE WITH YOU!
  • bernadette
That is scary! I hope the movie bombs big time. We really do have to spread the word about the positives ofnetwork marketing.
  • Denise Cox
ok - first i started laughing b/c it was really on point. then i went to the extras - the training sessions area and i found myself feeling really disturbed and misrepresented! my own "belief" was shook a little.

we DO have a lot of wrk to do and i'm a part of that!

does that mean i can't say j.o.b. anymore! ha!
  • hpena
Acutally I never really liked the whole J.O.B. (Just Over Broke) thing because I felt that it was insulting. Most people work HARD at their jobs and to demean their method of income would imply that they aren't smart. In fact most people don't know NWM even exists as a viable option. It's not their fault that they don't know what they don't know.

The law of attraction states that our thoughts circle back to us (you can call it karma). So for every time someone in NWM talked down to someone who works a standard job, there is someone who talks down to someone who is trying to build their NWM business. It all starts with us.
  • bethascoli
Good point Nando! Besides, it has become so cliche, nobody wants to hear it. It's not cute anymore.
  • jc13
All work has honor. A mom or dad who commit to getting up every day and providing for their family should not be made to feel bad about it. Or less, or inadequate.
JOB talk may be motivating, but it has the tinge of superiority and arrogance.
  • Bring it on! 30 years ago when I started my sales career, most people thought sales people were lower than a snakes belly. It only takes one person at a time to change stereotypes. With shows like this, you help us develop into the type of professional that does just that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I grow a little bit more each day I listen.
  • jc13
Bring it on - i like that.
  • juanfernandogutierrez
This is soooo true, really hurts; most of the people think this... well somebody has to serve the coffees!! hahahaha....
We have a lot of work to do, we have to do it step by step, but it can be done
  • nikomachi
I have to wonder why this movie is coming out now. The saying "Bad publicity is better than no publicity" comes to mind. I guess Network Marketing is causing enough of a stir if a movie is dedicated to it. I think this is a good thing and its up to us to use this in a positive way to help people realise the true nature of this profession.
  • Okay, so I just watched the trailer and some of the other clips...... OUCH!
Yeah, it hurts a bit, but I think that most people who "believe" this movie are people you wouldn't want in your business anyway.
Most people with a bit of intelligence and common sense will view this as satire and not take it as gospel.
Yes, there are people in our industry that perpetuate this negative view and we definitely have to change that, but I don't think this movie will have too much of a negative affect on us, or maybe I'm being naive.
  • hpena
I love that someone took all the TIME and EFFORT to create this. It forces people in our industry to see what some behavior or language can look like from a 3rd party perspective. That's why WE have to be the change that we want to see in the world.

So here's the challenge for Network Marketing Professionals (and Network Marketing corporate executives), how much TIME, EFFORT and CRITICAL THINKING do you put toward your character, image, verbiage and mentality. It has to be more than the creators of the mockumentary.

    Nando
  • Lisa
Everyone is talking about yesterday's segment....did I miss something yesterday?
  • I'm not sure that the stigma will ever completely go away, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as it once was. Unfortunately those "lottery" types of people will continue to join our industry, we just need to become more professional.
  • thanks for sharing this! Its a good example of what not to do, but also how they criticize and put down the whole concept but at the same time they are selling a product and there is a button to email it to a friend...hmmm, referral marketing. You could replace network marketing with any other profession where people act non-professional.

Agree, there are some areas to be cleaned up and it should be treated as a profession, thank you for setting the stage for helping people be more professional.
  • bethascoli
Wow, this trailer was both hilarious and painful. I think it's a great idea though to use it as a teaching tool. If people don't understand the perceptions that are out there, then they don't know what they are up against. It's great to be able to laugh at this and admit there is truth in it, but of course it's an exageration. Unfortunately, negative messages always scream louder and travel farther than the positive ones, so we all need to be very LOUD in our message....that this is a respectable profession!
  • JenniferDu79
Ouch, I've have seen that way to many times and have family members who were that. We joined separate companies, I went one direction they went another. I am in Michigan so I am sure you can guess which company they were apart of. I even saw a little part of me in that video when I started out. I am definitely trying to do my best to change the stigma of Network Marketing. Most people in here have heard of the industry and most of the time not good things either. We have to change that.

It is our responsibility and it starts with choosing the right company for you. Look at the leadership, look at the product try it, if you don't love it don't does not matter how great the comp plan is. We also have to realize that our company may NOT be for everyone and that is okay. That is why there are so many DIFFERENT companies.

You wouldn't tell someone working for Google that he is an idiot and should stop selling for them and go to work for Whole Foods. Completely different industries if they are passionate about technology then food might not be the right avenue even if whole foods is the best when it comes to food. I think that is part of where our stigma comes from. Not respecting each other's choices and decisions. There is a difference between being persistent and being disrespectful.

As long as we are all professional that's what matters.
  • jc13
    Great insights.
  • Bryan_in_KC
When asked what I do for a living, I respond that I am a professional network marketer. There have been a few times when they reply.... "What's the difference?" The question begs an answer. In the minds of most, network marketing is network marketing and to label it "professional" is creating an oxymoron. We must break the stereotype inherited from over zealous hobbyists with lottery mentalities. The only way to do that is to BE professional in ALL we do.

The definition of AUTHENTIC is as follows...
"Conforming to fact and therefore worthy of trust, reliance, or belief:"

In order to build trust and transform belief we must strive for authenticity. We can only become professional when we are also authentic. One day I truly believe there will be a difference between network marketing and AUTHENTIC network marketing, but it will only happen if we take action together.
  • dlinkhart
My son-in-law, the used car salesman, hates MLM, yet his professsion is ridiculed also. I'm wondering if I should show this to him and add fuel to the fire as far as his opinion of MLM. Perhaps I should skip sending this one out.
  • Bryan_in_KC
I used to sell cars. I used to ask for referrals and they were paid a fee when they referred someone to me that bought a car. I had an "organization" of such folks "under" me that made pretty good money just referring people to me that bought a car. Let's see, I found one that bought and they found a few that bought, they were paid a commission for referring them to the car dealer and a network of such people was created and..... hmmmmm ... sound familiar?
  • ericworre
A good friend of mine said to me last year "Don't you get tired of that Network Marketing Bullshit"? I had to remind her that she was working as the personal assistant to a person who bilked investors in Minnesota for over $2 billion dollars. And NO I never get tired of the Network Marketing Profession. It's the best.
  • A good friend!!! Amazing. I guess she doesn't watch the show then?
  • steveb22
In my travels i find less people who are skeptical of mlm and more people who are unemployed who need to address that first so they can pay their bill before they can start on building their fortune.
  • We do have a lot of work to do Sir! The misunderstanding of our profession is still huge, but the Tipping point is on it's way. The trailers of the movie Believe are very funny and so true. Wipe out all the grinders and weirdo's of the planet. Best regards from your biggest fan.
  • turjcxg
Ouch, that really hurts but I've seen it and unfortunately when I started I made a couple of those mistakes. But I have learned and changed for the better.

But you're right Eric. A few weeks ago, I was talking to a physician friend of mine sho stopped practicing medicine because she was only making $10 after the insurance reimbursement as a primary care physician. She asked me what my business was about so I gave her the company DVD and asked her to watch it. Her response was that "this was a great 'job' for me but she wasn't interested in "selling gel paks."

We have a lot of work to do!
  • Gakungu
Network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. There is a lot of work that needs to be done.
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
as mentioned over and over again in the millionaire interviews...
it is about ETHICS, discipline and being teachable. "we have -to do it in- a better way".
  • kgoren
Just as we are trying to let people know that we have a better way. People "believe" the media and although most of us can look at this and laugh, we've all been there. So yes....we have a lot of work to do.
  • Jeroen Lingier
I think the trailers are hilarious. As these fictional charactors are no doubt based on well meaning people, who just didn't get it, we will have to work hard to erase this stygma on our profession.
    Warm regards,
From Belgium, this is Jeroen Lingier
  • bartar20
I do run into a lot of negative thought patterns about our industry, I push thru it and when I meet like minded people it is such a breath of fresh air, more people today are open to our industry if approached in a proffessional manner.

  • Steve_Nelson
Its up to us as individuals to do the right thing. People have been busted in the past making more money off of the training materials than they made in their NM business. You get what you put into it....if you lie and cheat and deceive, even if you make some money for a little bit, it will never last. Thanks Eric, we CAN clean up the profession
  • chriskemp817
If we all come together and edify Network Marketing as a business and stop bashing other companies that will go a long way towards eliminating the stereotypes.
  • Foord Yates
And as for "Believe: The Movie", wouldn't it be ironic if they had a referral program....
  • I noticed that they are using direct sales to sell the movie and you can receive discounts for buying it in bulk... If the producers ARE serious about their distaste for mlm, I find it curious their website operates the same as many direct sales websites.
  • Episode 9 of Eric Worre's 100 Episode Throw Down Challenge:

After yesterday's episode of enpowerment and chest puffing, today's seems like that ice cold splash of water on your face after waking up from a restless sleep. TIME TO WAKE UP and WORK YOUR FACE OFF!

I watched all the trailers and I can see both sides of this.. I'm afraid that some will watch this and think this is how everyone does business. I believe those are also the people who aren't looking for a better way and are content in their contributing to the matrix.

Others will be offended. I think those might be the people who struggle with their own belief but still want it bad.

Finally I think there will be those who have evolved through personal development and have gone pro who will look at the film and just laugh at the absurdity and clicheiness (is that a word?) of the film. I think I fall between the offended and laughing at the absurdity. I don't think it was very funny, but then again I've never been a fan of The Office either. The film definitely has that feel.

I saw someone comment that this was our version of Spinal Tap.. Very well said

  • eddyoshaughnessy
Same old same old , I went to a Larry Thompson training years ago and his answer to any negative or objection was " I dont know about that , all I know is ........." I still use that line .
  • carybennett
Thanks not sure if i liked that video, i would think theres no way that would make it to the big screen. ughh , but very true with some people out there, and some companies, Thanks again

"Be the Change that You Want to See"...
Me, You, and Aunt Sue can change the world!

I think the best way to do that is to MAKE MONEY and show others how to MAKE MONEY doing the same thing..... the more people who are successful inside Network Marketing, the better!

  • I was asked to give the invocation at a Chamber of Commerce meeting. After the luncheon I had a person stop me and tell about a bad experience they'd had with a very large MLM company. They had recently found out my company, the product of which he was interested in using, was network marketed and was turned off because of they thought they had to attend dinner meetings and buy books and tapes just to use the product.

Because of the relationship I am building with the group I was able to point out the "right way" and was told that they would "keep an open mind".

It's not always a breakthrough. Small steps towards understanding can be a BIG victory.
  • Hi Eric, Great show today. We have work to do, clearly. But I'm all in. I will invest five years and then we'll see where I'm at. With guidance from you and other great sources of inspiration I will succed, and in 5 years maybe those lottery mentality people will be gone. / Linda, Sweden
  • Art D. lasvegas
We will be working hard to "clean it up" and be professional.
  • andreas
you are so right. we have many people with lottery mentality acting as professionals because they are in it for the quick buck. Great stuff!
  • bryantkeefe
It is interesting how people like to mock the things they are afraid of. Since most people fear success these type of films find a receptive audience. We do not see people mocking the local bike shop owner who is doing the very same thing we do...building a business.
  • I am with you Bryant!
  • peterragg
    Hi Team
As i said yesterday it is down to us. If you work the business hard and professionally as detailed by Eric for 3 - 5 years, that you have a burning desire, you build your TEAM, working with them giving them the skill sets to be successful, then you will be successful. If you are not prepared to do this then NM is not for you and you need to look at another type of business opportunity. You have got to go Pro.
There are too many people that join NM companies, talk the business, and then don't do it!! which gives those that love it, that work it and are successful at it this "crazy" stigma that follows us everywhere.
Every serious NM person should have written down their "Reasons and Vision for 2010", including how much money do they want to earn per month by December 31st 2010.

    This is a big subject.
    Kind regards
    Peter Ragg
  • denisekay
Well I have a little sassy in me. A morning reminder to work smart is the best tip ever.
  • When your on top, others will try to knock you down. All the more reason to forge ahead with a positive professional approach. Better to do it with a smile and not take one's self too seriously though. Allow your passion and belief to shine thru, and others will see you as a leader and will want to join you.
  • Hi Eric,

The only thing the promo for the movie you suggest did for me was to make me a bit nauseous. So I'll pass paying a few bucks to get really sick.

I react thus because of MY real memories that get brought up. It is going tot take "belief" in the network marketing model and "belief" that "professionalism" can overcome the stigmas that are capitalized on/leveraged in movies like "Believe".

Yes. we have a better way.
I do not agree that pushing our noses into the crap we have to clean up. and that many - if not all - of us have have actually eaten up, until we learned better, is beneficial.
No professional needs this ugly reminder of what NOT to do. [But, then, it could very well discourage the newcomers].

If you want to call people out on immoral/bad business conduct - go ahead.
I won't waste my time or energy doing it, simply because I have done so in the past, to no avail. The "bad guys" just laughed and told me I lacked (you guessed it).. [blind] belief. In the short term, they inevitably did make more money than me... and went on to jump ship with the same disregard for their "business partners" as they had when they enticed them with empty dreams.

Our energies must be focused - as you invariably are - on the RIGHT way. The tipping point will appear when the mass of RIGHT WAY MLM - i s sufficient to educate the general population so that when a buffoon tries to sell them in the old school way - he/she (the buffoon) will be recognized for the clown he/she is, and laughed out of town.

I do commend you for having the guts to call out the ridiculous and ludicrous... as such.

    Thanks for all you do.
  • ericworre
    Jack,

Thanks as always for you great comments. We can't say we want to change the image of the profession just by saying we want to change the image of the profession. We have to first, understand the perceptions. Second, realize they're only true for the lottery people who join MLM. Third, be the example of what to do right by treating it as a profession.

Yes, I realize this was a tough pill for a lot of new people to swallow. But we're all big kids. Best to KNOW the enemy.

    Thanks again my friend,

    Eric
  • Hi Eric,

I came by here again by chance today, and am ecstatic about the tremendous number of responses this episode has brought it. I guess that, sometimes, drawing attention to the negatives and outrageous CAN be a very effective tool in engaging the positive.

Ergo - this muckraker is gold in the hands of The Network Marketing Professional Alchemist!

Thanks for showing me the way. And thanks for your leadership in cleaning things up.

  • Foord Yates
    Good comment, Jack!!
  • keithraines
Try to educate each person along the way and care for them but as Rohn used to say - care but not too much. They must learn the truth about what we do and decide. From our perspective "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still" some will listen some will not. Work with the willing.
  • Paco_Carreno
I would like to add an idea... If we as an industry are being parodied it's because we do exist and are causing some unconfortable feelings among people who can't admit there's a better way. It's truth that we have to improve our professionality, work harder in ourselves and gain more posture when we approach the marketplace... But, as Ruber Dario (Spanish writer) used to say when critics whow up: "They're barking, so we're riding"
  • destrie
That was a hilarious Trailer. And we do have a lot of work to do to clear up that mentality. Im ready to be the change I want to see in the world. Thanks Eric!
  • Matt Genet
It is a shame that there are people who will let films like this influence their opinions. However one should look to Jim Rohn's advice on this subject when trying to overcome these perceptions. "Don't wish that things were easier, wish that you were better!"
  • ericworre
This film won't change anyone's opinion. The people who believe one way will feel validated and the people who feel another way will feel angry. That's all.
  • I'll add to your comment Eric.

I agree the people who believe one way will feel validated.

But about the people who feel another way; some will feel angry and others will find it hilarious. If you're insecure about it you will probably feel angry, if you're secure and confident with it then you will find it funny.

It didn't make me angry at all, I'm looking forward to watching the full movie.
  • Hello from Mexico!!!!

I think we can easily turn this into a powerful tool. We just have to tag it as a "What not to do in Network Marketing Instructional Video" and that's it! And of course we can even post a greeting message for the movie creator because he helped us doing a lot of work!

Eric you are great, thanks for sharing this.
  • Good comment...this might be a good idea if the 'fluff' on the site wasn't so anti Network Marketing. But you still might be onto something.
  • rmgmag
We do have a long way to go. I spoke with a woman on Monday night, who didn't know that pyramids were illegal....she's now a bit more educated than she was before.
  • Paco_Carreno
I love this type of situation... when something good is able to be felt BUT the task to make something special shows up in front of us... Now... we can see very clear the Goodness to come and the price to pay for it... It's a matter of taking the decision and the action. I'm ready, I'm focused to learn, develope and apply the skills, and persevere until de work get done. Quiting is not an option. Let's go do it, and do it professionally. People who will have the luck of being approached by us will notice that this "MLM thing" is not like the movies, or like people used to tell me... LET'S BE THE CHANGE WE ALL KNOW WE WANT TO SEE IN OUR WORLD!
  • Great thoughts to prepare people with, you've commented about creating false expectations before we need to be prepared for work and let others know that great rewards take great work.
  • OUCH!*** Way too much I can relate to here...I've seen it and wonder if I've even done some of that..**&
Yes we do have much to do to make it more professional...and yes Eric I was on a wee bit of a high after the CNN report yesterday. What a downer. Well it is like our business in a way-there are ups and there are downs and it is our resilience factor that needs to kick in to go above and beyond our challenges-TO BELIEVE that our industry is the better way!
I have to say that this is the better way!
  • hi jack..I meant that CNN show...thanks for asking!
  • Ouch! Talk about the timing of this release. Now, if I were a conspiracy-believing-type person, I might think that this movie was released just in time to create confusion and uncertainty in the many families and individuals who are suffering financially and were just starting to look seriously at the possibilities of an MLM. However, I'm all for freedom of expression and I do applaud the actors because it wouldn't hurt so much if they were not so good at being believable - and, of course, there in lies the challenge - the general public will believe this as true. You're right. A lot of work to be done.
  • LMAO - Just watched the trailers and at first it was kind of upsetting, then I found it very funny! People do have those perceptions.
  • nikomachi
I watched the trailers from the movie and you want to smack the guy!!!

Why is it that people are prepared and expect to work hard with all other jobs and yet when it comes to Network Marketing - noone really wants to work. They expect (me included - but not anymore) that the money will come to them like that. As the guy in the movie says ... as easy as 1, 2, 3
    ;-)
  • carolbarrett
We do have a lot of work ahead of us indeed. I was brought into the industry 3+ years ago by the stereotypical distributor whose job it was to recruit, recruit and recruit--don't need to do anything else--just bring people into your business and never have contact with them again. I wonder if they know I dropped out of their company over 2 1/2 years ago?
  • lauralopez
    Hi Eric
The show was great and it is true now the networkmarketing is the best option for many people,
and you can be your own bos, I don`t have the pressure of the time, the results are mine.
  • lisabooth
Unfortunately there are those that look for any reason, real or not, to say that we are not a true form of business. I can only work to make my business methods above reproach. Those around me will see me doing the best job that I can in becoming a network marketing pro!
  • pollyhulseman
We can change the thinking with our continued professionalism.
  • ericworre
    YES!
  • Ernesto_Busnelli
For sure there is some image clean up for us to get done.
That will be a strong inertia force to defeat but for sure will fight for it.
  • brigittapatel
It is so true…I see it everywhere, just to get people in the business….
“We must become the change we want to see.”
    Mahatma Gandhi

    Thanks a million

    Thanks a million.

  • wouterdeprez
Sad movie, I'm surely not going to buy it:)
  • Katie N
Great show today Eric. We need to defend this industry, very important topic.
  • ilkka
Rock rock, let`s work everyday for this case.
  • soxfan071
Great film for the closed minded people in this world who are influenced by Movies or TV or they believe what corporate America is telling them. It is surely easier to follow the ney-sayers than to step out and take a chance. It is easier to make fun of something you no nothing about then to take a real look inside for yourself. I believe most people are affraid to look inside this business of Network Marketing for themselves because they may see something they like and have to do some work. Or it may be a reminder of the sh@#% JOB they go to everyday. SAD
  • Cee_G
Hi Eric...We have work to do is right! And this is in the theatres in April?? I have family members and acquaintances that will eat this up and be laughing at me even more. This will separate the ones who get it from the ones who don't. Those with the strongest "back bone" will survive. I have been in NM for years and they have always looked at what I do as a joke. Too bad for them! We do have a better way and I will hold my head high as I continue in my NM business. And I will counteract any negative comments by continuing to listen to you and the Jim Rohn's of the world. Dilute the negative people! Wear ear plugs if you have to. This will have its "buzz" and then, "this too shall pass..."
  • hlj521
Well, That was very interesting! I guess we all know that in order to change the "world view" of MLM we need to step up and make some changes. Lots of work to do...It is worth it!
  • The big questions here are:
who were the big mentors of this movie...
    who is feeling uncomfortable?

    food for thought

    Love you all
    Alfredo Rodrigues
  • well, you made me curious.... ~
  • bobmeguyer
Thanks Eric for letting people know about this. Everyone needs to know the good and the bad.
  • I did feel good after yesterdays clip, but as you say, Eric. We have a lot of work left, and we need to implement more of this professional attitude, not only to the new people we bring in to the business. We also have to change a lot of old habits!
  • Wow - "I confess", watching those trailers certainly did sting, mostly because the reminded me of my "old" behaviors...

I was introduced to N.M. through a lot of hype and manipulation...

and with very little experience at the time, I had no choice but to imitate that "bad behavior" and to continue perpetuating the "hype and manipulation".

Looking back, I realize that my actions never "served" me and/or the industry...

Today, I particpate in this community for 2 reasons...

1st - I really do believe "We Have A Better Way"

2nd - and I learned this here - there "IS" a better way to "DO" this business!

    VOTE for Eric - http://shortyawards.com/EricWorre
  • wahahahaha! Thank you Eric! The movie real nice. Going to watch it.
  • MagnusEdvald
It such an important reminder. Thanks
  • Kjell Englund
It reminds me about my New Years greetings I send to my friends. In the greeting I told them about my new work and link to the opportunity with Network Marketing. One of my absolutely poorest friends send me his answer
    - "I am grieved to hear about your illness but I hope you get healthy as soon as possible".

    /Kjell :-)

  • LOVE the work that going to be done. It not going to be easy BUT is worth the effort.

Side note: LOVE your training... getting more and more powerful!
  • Hans
Interesting subject but where do I find that link to watch the Mockumentary (nice new word I learnt today!)? I looked up and down this page and the comments, but couldn't find it. Maybe I should do a Google?

Thanks and have a great day everybody!
    Hans@France
  • ericworre
There are links embedded in the video itself. You'll see little circles along the time line.
  • Hans
    Thanks, Eric!
  • tomlacey
    Painful indeed.
  • clickjt
Yes, been there and done that. I'm pretty sure I had one of those guys as my upline many years ago. He had more tapes than this clip shows.
I'm not going to say that he was faking it til he made it, but I was doing a service call one day while I was doing my regular "JOB" and I caught him selling his blood plasma at a clinic for $25.
    Those tapes weren't cheap.
  • veronikakari
Yes, there are "interesting" opinions about MLM. I do not misused people and I am giving as good information as I can.
  • Lets clean it up ;)
  • Einar
I will look at this video and I know we have a big work to do.
I am at a hospital and somehow cant logg me in as a member in the disqus.
I may not be able to send coments next days as I am going into surgery in one or two hours.
  • ericworre
God Bless your surgery. Praying everything will go smoothly
  • jpmendoza
Yes, I am excited about the company, our products & no I am not making any money right now, but there is also no supervisor, no manager telling me that the bonus structure has change with only a week left in the month, there are no co workers stealing my deals in order for them to meet their bonus requirements. What I have is an up line that is willing to help me develop my skills, a profession that allows me to go by my time line. I believe in the income POTENTIAL, the key word is POTENTIAL.
  • Erik
I think this " film " is not funny actually. They are trying to stop the wawe of the industry. If they where serious they wouldn`t write : Some companies, illegal pyramid or otherwise, recognized as network marketing type businesses are Amway, NuSkin, Xango, Noni, Usana, Herbalife, Pre-Paid Legal, ACN, Avon, and Mary Kay.

None of this companies are illegal or clased as pyramids. Ironi I can take and think is funny, if someone likes to make a film of the steriotype Scandinavians, or that all Germans are like Hitler or the French have red noses and drinking wine all day, or the film Borat that`s sometimes funny, a MLM film had to come and could be funny in many ways if they made it like Life of Brian. Jews and Romans where not like in the film Life of Brian and we know it. That was funny, but this film is made to make us all look like fools and liers and it is just sad...
  • ericworre
Like it or not, it wouldn't be funny to anyone if it didn't represent current stereotypes of many. But either way it's important to fully understand what we must do to make the change.
  • Erik
Yes I can see that. But I`m not sure if this is made to be funny or if it`s made just to stop the industry. I think the Anti mlm stuff on the internet do not work to good so they makes this film. BUT they have some points and we have to make sure we act like PROs :)
  • Darnell
Thanks for another 'wake up' call moment for our industry!! Looking to watch this video and become amused as well as entertained. I know it takes courage for all of us here to step out on something more and have faith in our dreams and hopes and not settle for less. I'm not quitting network marketing....looking 4ward to the next video. Thanks so much, Eric!!
  • AviPeer
Even if you are professionals it takes time to be an expert. Thank you Eric for giving me the opportunity to be an expert in this profession.
  • Erik
Hmm, interesting. I will check it out...

Man we get a lot of heat as network marketing pros..... no wonder we make so much money.... i cant lie the clips are funny tho...very inappropriate but funny

It's hard for myself to reprogram, it's even harder for me to help re-educate/reprogram people's lifes, but you know what... I'm in the right place at the right time.
TO ME, THERE'S NO WAY BACK!!!

    Saludos from Aguascalientes, Mexico.
  • mlvw
    We are the change!
  • This movie you mentioned reminds me of the mockery the mortgage industry faced when wall street collapsed and the picture that every company and person in the industry were crooks...the key to all of this is perception and it can be overcome with professionalism.
  • Mailen
    Hei.
You said ugly, Eric. More like disgusting.
I feel safe. My mentor has been in the same company for 16 year now, and take good care of me.
And we have a lot of work to do, I can se that .

    Best regards
    Mailen
  • Jillian
Its all about dispelling the myths with being professional at all times and utilizing what we learn - its a cold stone fact that we have a better way...
  • When we treat our business as a real business, those around you will begin to see it in the same way.
