January 18th, 2010 Email This

I’m happy to introduce you to another million dollar per year earner, Mr. Sherman Unkefer.  In part 1 of our 4-part interview, I ask the question “Can meetings be replaced by technology”?  You’ll hear Sherman’s thoughts and then I want to hear YOUR thoughts.  Please comment below.

I agree with the belly to belly. I get discouraged that so many people do so much with the internet and I don't know enough about it to do it that way.
  • wealthandriches
Technology has it's place and building relationships in person is the #1 best way.
I noticed Sherman has an online presence, so I believe what he is saying with his actions is, yes use technology, but don't solely rely on it.
  • Meetings can not be replaced, and neither can the internet. They are just a different dynamic. Like it or not guys the internet is here to stay, those who know this and position themselves with it have greater leverage than those who don't (you should be seeing that now Eric with your blog here and recent product launch).
  • Skipping to the Complete & Uncut episode...but wanted to make sure I complete the challenge and make a comment! ;-)
  • No, meetings can't be replaced. Technology can add, but this is relationsship marketing. Ask yourself; could you have build the realtionships you have or have had on-line only?
  • yitz613
Face to face and belly to belly, this is a relationship business.
  • meagankellytorres
Building relationships! Face to face is the only way to transfer belief. Belief is a physical energy that can only be transfered from people to people. Technology is a great tool but that is all it can be really used for, in my opinion. People join people, not websites.
  • Calvin Boutilier
    Good work! I believe!!
  • Elaine Baril
"Limited belief" I believe I can do it! :) I believe in myself! ;)
  • nelleke
This is a tru and real example of someone that faced the same problems and reactions from people that were offered the business too. I hear peole say to me, well how could you get involved in such a business. Oh no, I would not get involved, I'll see how it works out for you first. Very nice to hear someone successful who went through it all too. So meaning that it is not only to me people say such things.
  • chiatkhor
I feel that, although we have a lot of communication technologies, meeting is still the easiest and the best way to communicate with our friends. I can draw to him, I can write to him, I can let him touch or try our products sample and so on. To me, this can lead my friend to do a better and fairer judgement on my products and my business opportunity. When I meet my friends, I feel that he is more transparent. I want to let my friends have the same feeling too. I use communication tools to do follow up and presentation too, but it was when there is no other better way to reach that person. I also agree that consistency is very important. I am slow, I know, it is because I am weak at consistency in doing presentation. I am working hard to the better. Thank you.
  • MDungey
Another reminder that this is a relationship business - belly to belly, face to face.
  • BobbyRay
I like the personal response at meetings.
  • Damijan81
I often wonder whether or not Face to Face is always best, thanks for the reminder that there is no other way as effective
  • JON FORTI
IF MEETINGS ARE FACE TO FACE PEOPLE CONNECT!
  • guydrennan
It's great to realize (again) that not everyone who makes it to the big leagues did so on their first company. there is hope even for me.
  • travelprohawaii
Thanks I didn't think we are all in the same industry no matter what product we are selling.
  • Jorge Longoria
make meetings, make meeting , good meetings and never forget consistency!!
  • Carlos Perez
Meetings makes money, this is another example of it.
  • Shovers
Although that seems like a lot of meetings, I can see where face to face is so much more effective. Although I speak almost daily with my mentor, I miss seeing her as she recently moved out of state.
  • juanpablorico
Wen I hered abut people who cames from diferente MLM experiences, becouse Agel it´s my first experience I ask to my sefl if I will win in the first shot .....
  • heatherbrocklehurst
I love that statement that people don't like going to bad meetings, they love to go to great meetings. That is so true.
  • jlt0wn
his point about the breadth & depth of leadership is right on! the products can be outstanding with a solid compensation plan - yet if I don't care to work with the leadership for the company, whether it's knowledge, personality, trust, etc., - I'll move on. Once again it's all about building relationships.
  • CINDYSU
What stuck on this one? People don't like to go to bad meetings, they love to go to GOOD meetings. Consistency.
  • ronaldvandomburg
wishfull thinking: if i use the technology, i don't have to do it by myself anymore...
I think it is all about connecting people and fortunally you can't replace that by technology
  • Luis Gringras
Very inspiring after 3 NM companies he still call the same prospects and tell about the new oportunity
  • Going into management mode and not realizing the full potential.

This sentence just keeps hitting me over and over again. Going into management mode was my escape from self-responsability into building my network. I guess the management mode should be applied like the rule width Vs depth, like you said a few sessions ago: only when the team makes me work so much than I can't build width anymore.

    Meetings make money. Period.
  • susanjohannesson
    Consistency will get us there..!
  • Thanks for the interview part 1. One thing I got out of this is that Mr. Unkefer believed in the system, after 3 failures he did not give up. Face to face meetings replaced by technology? I doubt it any time soon. At least for the better and bigger results.
  • Vonnita2010
    AMAZING... LET'S SEE....
    - CONSISTENCY
    - PEOPLE HATE BAD MEETINGS BUT LOVE NEW MEETINGS
    - NOW I REALLY WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE APROACHES TAKEN AFTER HAVING FAILED IN 3 MLM CO BEFORE, THIS IS MY FIRST ONE AND I KNOW IT IS GOING TO BE A PHENOMENOM BUT I WANT TO KNOW MORE!! I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAVEN'T HAD THE CHANCE TO FAIL IN AN MLM CO, SO I DON'T HAVE THE EXPERIENCE BUT YES I HAVE AND DO FACE REJECCTION VERY OFTEN YET I AM NOT GIVING UP!! LET'S GO FOR THE SECOND PART!!
  • Thank you...
  • lisabooth
I love good meetings and I love to be a part of a company that appreciates them. If someone is going to take time out of their week to attend, it better be worth it!
  • Consistency is the key to any successful business. I also agree that relationships are a critical piece of our business model. And while it is probably true that you can build your business faster 'belly-to-belly', I would not be building a network marketing business today if the internet was not an option.
  • Jessi
Personal relationships, I believe that's the key!
  • mspaulamc
Everyone of my business builders (the ones who do it) are great friends - these folks are people i never would have met unless I was pursuing a MLM business. RELATIONSHIP - get it!
  • susanclark
#221 - Sherman Unkefer Interview Part 1 of 4 - I am resubmitting my comment from 1/19/10 as my comment seemed to have disappeared when I put a second comment on for # 222. I agree with Sherman that there is no substitue for eyeball to eyeball. The internet, while useful, does not replace meeting with a person face to face. Great session. I have commented every session since # 210 - sometimes with some difficulty. I hope this is all reflected by Disqus. Thanks.
  • Inger
Building relationships, meetings make money... and consistency. And persevere, keep going!
  • marvalouslife1
    Hi Eric,

what a simple and down to earth man.

    Ron Ackerman - Israel
  • robbinsaturniewicz
Picked up on people like to go to good meetings! Be consistent.
  • Jay VanNostrand
some things will never change about this industry...A GOOD meeting is one of the most powerful forms of leverage available to us!
  • Great to hear Sherman, looking forward to the next part.
  • CINDYSU
I won't apologize for meetings anymore!
  • AviPeer
Again if you fail in the past it says nothing on the future. Thank you for this lesson.
  • Ryan
consistent belly to belly contact. yes!
  • Grace2010
Great to hear that others see the value in meeting face to face.
  • John Boyd
Been there Done that! Going to a great meeting tomorrow and I will be travelling 400 miles to get there!
  • Yes, Persistancy
  • jessicajablonski
Wow! Sherman has definitely been around this industry for a long time. Thanks for connecting us Eric!
  • Still listening to all of them.. enjoying.
  • LisaR2010
Great words of encouragement from Mr. Unkefer. It's so true that a lot of us have tried other MLM companies, but never succeeded. I am getting great advice around how to handle people with this issue.
    Thanks.
  • claralondono
It takes real courage to keep pushing after three put downs...what a lesson!! Thank you
  • Lotta
Meetings are important. To see eye to eye. And to get the energy that gives on a great event.
  • granttomkins
dont leave us just with that lol bring on tomorrow
  • Gustavo Muñoz - Colombia
It is great to have another interview like this. THks again
  • Tina
Great...I am so glad because I like to get out but needed to hear this to encourage me to go ahead and get out.
  • classy70sgirl
It's heartwarming to hear that other Million Dollar Earners encountered a similiar reaction to myself when starting out in their business. It gives me the encouragement to keep up the 2 a day to bring freedom my way!
    Thanks Eric and Mr. Unkefer.
    Classy70sgirl
  • Jose Lopez
(Comment on Show # 221) - WOW! I am taking notes. Two sentences for my NM Professional Journal. 1. People might not like to go to bad meetings, but they love to go to good meetings! 2. If they can join with a click, they can quit with a click.
  • chipc
Great questions Eric. I look forward to the next segment.
  • daddykekere
I love the comment that people come to "good meetings". Thanks
  • seija
    Consistency - again!
  • jean_albert
Consistency (200 mtgs/year) keeps coming to the fore-front for a successful networking business. I still need to be reminded that "consistency" daily, weekly, etc. is a BIG factor of success in this industry.
  • JudasPierce
    yea...another interview!!!!...woohoo
  • jerryscribner
    Great comments about meetings
  • Luis (Pelon)
People love to meet people, also love to be part of something, to get accounted for.
  • tommycone
    #221

Thanks Eric, For interviewing Mr. Sherman Unkefer. The one thing I keep hearing is be consist over time.
  • annenz
Meetings are key. 5 year failure and then success. wow
  • Sherman is a master meeting guy... over 200 meetings per year is amazing!
  • Wow how true. I love that 'People don't like to go to bad meetings but they love to go to great meetings!' There are so many great ways to build the business with technology but the real work starts when you enrol your team member. I think then it is really important to get them to a 'great' meeting.

Thanks Eric for bringing all these amazing people to us. It's interesting that the subject is technology and this meeting between you is using technology. :)
  • karenandian
Yes, we love that too! I have heard that message from people-We don't want to go to a meeting. So we need to be World Class Promoters.
  • Just back from an event, I sure can agree that people like to go to good meetings. Technology is perfect for a lot, but if you like to transform people from HOPE to BELIEVE, you need Events!
  • karenandian
    So true!! Thank you Netline.
  • And what about people jumping from one company to another ? Or working with several companies at the same time ? It would be interesting to get your opinion on that issue,Eric.
  • Agneta Rebo
Agree that it´s really important to find the "right" company for you.
  • ioana17
I love Sherman's point of view. My passion is to be there, to be present for my client, to know him and how can I help him. I love meetings. You feel that you are alive comparing with internet.
  • jc13
    Limiting Beliefs

The fact that people think about limiting beliefs is exactly the problem. It is the heart and the heart’s desires that set up the conflict because then the mind begins a comparison and contrast process of what is possible and what is impossible as the heart keeps pounding away about the desires.

Limiting beliefs are tightly connected to fears and as we already learned the best way to deal with the fears is to take action. Mostly those limiting beliefs exist at the beginning of the venture where the mountain appears tallest. I want to share a short training John Haremza did about taking action. John created a 14 minute CD to introduce the business.

The central theme of this training is to not answer questions. The following are several variations of the introductory call or face-to-face meeting to get someone to listen to the CD.

Just between you and I, How are things going?
I think I may have something that may help.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

I just got introduced to something I’m extremely excited about.
I’m not sure you would be interested, but I want to make sure.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

I’m working with a group of medical and business professionals.
I’m looking for some like-minded people.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

Have you ever thought about doing something different?
I might have something for you.
Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?

So, how do you maintain your posture when your potential associate wants to know what it is about? Resist answering questions with three possible replies.

    1. I value your time as much as mine - Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?
    2. If we’re going to get into it I need to schedule an hour or more of your time -Would you trust me with 14 minutes of your time?
    3. I don’t think this is for you. Thank you for your time.

In this manner you are not going down the path of persuasion and you can open the door of interest. The additional benefit of this is that the next step is a three-way phone call with your upline to answer the questions and the potential associate is likely thinking “This seems pretty easy – I probably can do this.”
  • This is an interesting topic. I personally battle this topic meetings vs Technology. I have tried both and finding more success with Technology right now. There is still a personal side to my technology side of the business. When a person shows interest I still have to pick up the phone and call the person and build a relationship. I have been burned on the friends and family side of most Network Marketing companies. That is the main reason I am working the technology side of the business. What do you think of conference calls and webex meetings in place of home or hotel meetings?
  • Great!, i love this teachings and sharings..........
  • I like this interview, great ideas like small home meeting to hotel meetings, great lessons, thank you very much.
  • feltricks
Amazing, three companies and still have the passion, consistency and dream to build towards.
Definitively we have a better way and people must know about us. Thanks to people like Sherman we are becoming professionals.
    Looking forward to next part.
    Thanks.
  • FrankMarshman
Thank you, I needed that. I have no insight to add.
  • racingworm
Great! I've always had a better presentation on a one on one basis. Internet is fine, but will never replace the face to face.
  • deniseschnitzer
Interesting man w/ good ideas: build relationships, go to warm market and don't give up! Love that!
  • alcamacho
Wow! this is where I'm at in my career with Network Marketing. Last Thursday did my 1st Hotel Business Opportunity Presentation. Had 13 people show up. On the 28th will be my second. I believe it will grow.
  • karenandian
Consistency is key - This is a business of building relationships! The internet does have a place, meetings have a bigger place.
  • Irina
Internet is a tool. High tech (internet) can never replace high touch (face-to-face, meetings).
  • Connor J McDonald
Great points made in this part. Many people believe that technology can replace meetings but as you said and Sherman both said, it really is a belly-to-belly business.
  • Internet can never replace meetings. In my Team, we use Internet in marketing, recruiting and training - but we use meetings to develop relationships that makes our business stronger and our members more committed. I just came back from a big event in Rome, and I am loaded with inspiration and belief for the future we have ahead! I think 2010 may be the "tipping-point" year for our Profession
  • susanclark
#221 - I appreciate what Sherman Unkefer said about meetings. I totally agree with the eyeball to eyeball. People need to be around the people. Just doing webinars will never replace that aspect of the business. We are in the people business.
  • dawnmarielagmay
Thank you Eric and Sherman. I am finding that listening to the daily videos are changing my perspective on many topics. I have struggled w/meetings and I believe because I did not believe in them, it has been hard to convince someone to attend w/me. When I first got involved in NWM, I called EVERYONE I knew to invite them to come to a meeting w/me and thought that at least a handful would have come. In fact, I was concerned that the room was going to be big enough for all of my guests, let alone the guests of everyone else, (it was a fairly small room). Not a single guest showed up. I know that I was excited and encouraged while inviting them, but I also explained to them what they were going to hear in the meeting, which caused them not to want to go cause I was not an expert nor did I know anything about the psychology around inviting. This massive phone rally put me into the NFL (no friends left) catagory-you know, where your friends and family avoid you when they see you because they fear you are going to MLM them to death? :) Anyway, I have found numerous tools to use now and am working towards getting better at the game and I LOVE hearing things over and over again and the perspective that they bring. It always amazes me to hear that EVERY SINGLE person who is making it is doing the same thing....being persistant!!!!!! There is no bigger key then persistancy!
  • nickgarrison
I find it ironic that traditional businesses go broke and nobody thinks twice about it. But let a network marketing company go broke and then all network marketing business is bad. How come?
  • For those that love meetings and understand that failure is a stepping stone to great success, this interview gives hope. Thanks!
  • aileens
intriguing. These stories are fascinating !
  • Face to face...belly to belly is the only way to build strong relationships. Eric, your interviews are always great and Sherman is someone we can all learn from....
  • Vange01
Good point, why people will believe or partner with you....looking forward to hear the second part
  • wow lots of meetings...good lesson, In a previous show, Eric you talked about building trust and transferring belief this is only possible through meetings I really don't think you can do this via the internet and email. looking forward to the rest of the interview...good thing Sherman didn't give up the first couple attempts he is a well respected leader now!
  • mrmauriocrawford
MY QUESTION: What makes a good meeting? Eric, please help me with this!!!
  • mrmauriocrawford
    Eric, your timing is awesome...
You cut it off right while you're asking another great question. Oh my, "People don't like bad meetings, but people love to goto good meetings."

  • I think we need to do both, meetings and internet to grow our businesses.
  • Vern Trabue
Here's what I got from this. You will have some failure along the way. Just don't give up!
  • nikigombis
Good insights. I already have the best company, best product, best business model? #1 in all respects. What is my excuse? No meetings?
  • Being "persistantly- consistant". Get it in front of your people - warm market of course but you still have to build those relationships. Like his message about how he got started in his last company even tho he wasn't interested his sponsor did do a continued 'FOLLOW-UP". The fortune is in the "follow-up". Also liked the part about "those limiting beliefs". A lot of people "won't have success", and then they believe that they will never have success if another timing came along.
  • "If they can join with a click, they can quit with a click" LOL hilarious!

  • KeithN
The new tech and new social media tools are great. But we are in the people business. Connecting with others and building relationships is always best done in person.
  • Athletes4Health
I too love great meetings and hate the bad ones. The problem is if you don't have a "Sherman" or "Eric" you don't know which will be bad...perhaps until it's too late.
  • coltsco
I certainly agree that there's nothing better than face to face. Of course the good thing about technology is it allows us to reach people with webinars, etc. that the average person would have a hard time getting to meet face to face.
  • jpmendoza
You can not get away from the fact that this is a business where you have to meet people & build relationships. Great information.
  • peterragg
    Hi Team
People buy people, face to face probably (if you listen to the experts) within about 30 seconds. If you want to build a serious network you have to build it through relationships and TEAM culture and events.
    Regards
    Peter Ragg
  • Another great one. This guy was just determined.
  • Meetings are great and consistancy is key. These interviews are great.

    Thanks
    Eric
  • kgadol
I believe that we can all continually improve on our relationship skills - listening, sharing, inviting, simply being a friend. People will want to follow those with a vision and those who they enjoy being around. I ask myself - am I speaking life or death as I talk and share. Do people want to spend time with me? And, if the answer is no, I have work to do on myself first and foremost. It is a relationship business.
  • gillym1
Wow! So many resources to draw on - how do you INVITE people to your meeting successfully though?
  • I find the humility of these million dollar earners amazing!!
  • krisic
It's reassuring to hear someone who makes that kind of money, has already failed at MLM before. I too really believe in my company and know it's where I'm suppose to be.
  • jbledsoejr
Great start...looking forward to remaining parts. Interested to find how Sherman built it from there.

Here is an analogy on technology and meetings: Technology is great, but tech alone cannot build and sustain a business much like vitamins or dietary supplements are great but alone can't sustain our health. We don't take vitamins/supplements and not eat...we still have to eat. On the flip vitamins/supplements are a great aid and benefit to our health.
  • Steve_Nelson
I wonder who makes more money, Mike Dillard or Sherman?? I don't know but Im willing to bet that Mr. Unkefer makes a lot more. I like his way of building relationships a lot better, rather than "hiding behind the monitor"
  • Interesting start, just waiting for the rest..........
  • dannyscottlynn
Wow, I don't know anyone that cant relate to his start in network marketing
  • Connie Tolton
    Thanks - keep it coming
    Connie T
  • mlvw
Without meetings where is the relationship? There is none!
  • internet!! I love the net ;)
  • randyhendrickson
I have heard from the very beginning. From many different people, this profession is a people business and you need to put in front of them.
  • I find it interesting that I am hearing a message that puts down the internet as a way of working this business and building relationships via an internet video blog. Am I missing something here? Where is the Network Marketing Pro meeting in WI this week?

Sherman mentions he conducts 200 meetings a year. How many of those are in the US?
  • Darnell
Staying consistent leads to a healthy seven figure income along with actually participating in real live actively fun meetings as well!! I think this is good b/c just logging online to a webinar doesn't bring the full effect if one means allows them to attend live events/meetings!! Thanks so much...looking 4ward to the next video!!
  • Daniel W. Cook III
    #12
Great intro, In meetings and at events commitments are made and lives are changed... that doesn't happen online.
  • 1BrutalTruth1
I was once sponsored into a company that boasted they did all thier sponsoring online, without any meetings nor events to attend. After a week, I could never get a hold of my sponsor and I felt like I was stranded on an island by myself. I believe the turnover ratio was like 98% every 30 days. You start to connect the dots and find out that the ones that truly have the kind of residual income we want all built the business thru REAL relationships with people. NOT by hiding behind the monitor all day and night with a few emails along the way. This requires talking to people, meeting them at functions and developing TRUST between them as well as the company that they committed to. The internet is nothing more than a way to transfer information to make our jobs easier but it cannot be used to build long term HUMAN relationships. Another problem was that 'internet marketing' was way too difficult for me to pull-off successfully. I found it's also not duplicatable to the 95% of people coming into the business which defeats the whole purpose of NM. Because it's not what you do, it's what you duplicate that matters. There's plenty of inexpensive, SIMPLE, offline marketing techniques that everyone CAN do to build thier business after they approach thier 'warm market' correctly. When I listen to people like Eric, Nathan Ricks, Mark Yarnell and Sherman, I now know WHY they did what they did. It's all about creating a long-term residual income that lasts for decades that you can even will to your children.
  • gjt
consistency working on it trying to make it a habit thanks
  • carolmcwilliams
The most reveling comment for me was how he stated that, "yes it is difficult to get people to go to meetings if they are bad, but I have no trouble getting people to go to great meetings. My questions what does he do to make them great? I understand that technology is a helpful tool, and nothing replaces face to face. This is not always possible when I don't live in the same vicinity. That is when I use the phone to develop relationships and send them to local meetings where they live. I am so eager to hear more how he creates dynamic, powerful meetings where people get tremendous value.
    Thanks Eric.

    Carol
  • lynn hall
I agree you should be consistent and if things don't seem to be going right don't give up, no matter what.
It is a good idea to have face to face meetings you can build better relationships than over internet.
  • cherisizzles
I couldn't agree more! I am so sad that everything in our personal and professional lives has been left to technology. I think that people can have success in NWM using technology, but I think the truly successful people are like Sherman said, building relationships. Not just signing people up. Thanks, Sherman, for the reminder of the importance of belly to belly. :)
  • david_high
I'm looking forward to the rest of the interview!
  • Javed Iqbal
Thanks Eric for bringing a new great interview.

Sherman got bad experience with three companies. Majority of people faced this situation. Due to lack of knowledge on how to EVALUATE a company through third party criteria, usually people do not do their due diligence while choosing a company. People should fully explore all the aspects of the company with positive and open mind.

CONSISTENCY is must, but choosing a RIGHT vehicle is also vital.

  • This is very encouraging because Sherman had some failed experience. Despite that, he built a very successful organization. In the begging his warm market did not trust him any more and said they'll see how he'll do this time. That's tough. Thank you so much for sharing the story. Looking forward to the next clip.
  • Pepeneto
We are in a meetings bussiness. No doubts
  • dterrell
I am interested in how Sherman began to build his organization.
  • Technology should never replace the fundamental of Network Marketing which is relationship building. However, I think that the internet should complement offline methods--high tech meeting high touch. People do it all the time. They meet a lot of people on the internet, promote events and drive them to events to really solidify the personal relationship. Or, they meet someone at a meeting, and that person goes home and follows them online to stay in touch. Meetings will always make money, and the internet is ever growing. What we have is the perfect combination.
  • Ngoc Tran
What a great point in building relationship by not hiding behind the computer but meeting. I got it. Thanks Eric and Sherman!
  • Bea Resnick
I'm impressed that Sherman didn't give up, even after 3 failed companies in a row. In order to do that a person would have to believe that Network Marketing offers a better way. Good for him for hanging in there!
  • liora
Good meetings and consistency are the base of MLM
  • Mark Dickson
Yes belly to belly is the way. But people want the now and they think that the internet and email blast is
easier because you don't fill or see the no's. Its faster to send out 1000 emails than to talk to two a day, wrong.
  • Robertdiggsjr
people dont like to go to bad meetings, they like to go to great meetings...wow!
  • I look forward to the next segment. FEAR gets in the way of building face-to-face or belly-to-belly relationships, for many people. It is easy to hide behind technology and convince oneself that one is being productive. Thanks for sharing this "back to the basics" conversation about the importance of relationships, consistent activity, and engaging presentations. I want to hear more about your MOO (Mode of Operation) and to learn how to conduct GOOD meetings so I exude more confidence in those important face to face conversations.
  • davidgreene
    Well Worded Camille!

Here's that getting a large group of people to do a few simple things over a consistence period of time again I do believe this works .How can having great meetings not grow your group?
  • Dave S
I continue to hear that getting prospects to a meeting is the key but can you share how best to accomplish that. Do most successful NMP lead with their product or the opportunity? Love the show and the daily devotion.
  • DianaValdez
Consistency is a ver good point. Good meetings too. I agree that is way better when you can look at the person in the eye or touch them but What would be a good meeting? One that made everyone feel good about? One that everyone signed in? One that most of the people seem interested?
  • I agree that it's a face-to-face business. I've found persons I met using technology are more willing to join after they've met me in person even if it means building remotely, using technology as an enabler.
  • emmettb
Has anyone figured out how to access the videos and comments from their Iphone?
    Thanks for any info
  • Frank Diaz
Great start ---- With hard work we will make it.
  • jeanalbert
    1 part meeting + 2 parts relationship building + 3 parts consistency= a whole lot of success!!!
  • jennyc
Wow! Good to know even the big earners had trouble in the past.
  • drpricedc
You know, it is my understanding that every great business person has experienced failure, the difference between success and failure is never giving up......
  • Eric and Sherman,
Thank you so much for talking about beliefs that you cannot make it. I have been stalled for several months because of the NFL (No Friends Left belief). Can't wait to hear tomorrows so I know what Sherman did to break this trance of the NFL Club. `
  • mchalk
Wow I found your guest to be quite amazing. You have to admire anyone who would try another network marketing venture after three failures. That kind of perseverance is truly remarkable and a sign of personal fortitude. Very inspirational!
  • Eric - Thank you for bringing another successful leader in the industry to your stage. It is always inspiring to see these great successes talk about their own trials and tribulations along their path to success. I look forward to seeing the rest of the interview.
  • I love these series of interviews. They teach so much..can't wait to learn more.
  • tyroneholmes
Great opening segment to this interview.I am encouraged to not give up! I can't wait to see how he started building,I am sitting on the edge of my seat.
  • Jilliangene
I love the daily reminders of the NWM rules - hard work on yourself, relationships, and you will be rewarded well. You have to believe in the product/service, your team and yourself. We only fail when we fail to try again. I need to hear it - Great sound Eric.
    Thanks Jillian
  • Tell me more Sherman
  • georgeman
Great confirmation to the good old model of introducing our business over a coffee through "personal meeting". The decision, switch, or click that takes place in a person when they first decide they want to work with us, and the continued personal self affirming of that decision that a person goes through, I believe is weakened when the "hi tech" aspect of the business replaces "hi touch". Both are needed. Waiting for tomorrow, great one.
  • SJ Doug
Learn to invite and get prospects to attend the meetings. Getting them to attend the meetings seems to be a critical component. That is where the leverage of the business begins.

  • juliehawkins
I thank you again, It is good to know that their are many people that have really tried to hold on to their dreams and stay consistant with it and not giving up. Thank you Sherman for sharing with us your trials with this Industry and about the face to face meetings and truly building relationships.

    Sincerely
    Julie Hawkins
  • randers1
Make consistency a policy, cultural fit. Limiting beliefs can be overcome, with massive action. It was a meeting that first intrigued me into the business. Meetings can be looked forward to as fun and adventurous. There is in deed no replacement to meetings and the impact that they have on communities. Often times everyone asks so what did you do yesterday or last week and if they attended a meeting than immediately that comes to mind and they tell a story based on their experience.
  • quintaser
    <<<<< H e l p >>>>>>>>.
I don't know why, but for the second time in aprox a week, I cant see the images where the video is posted, the right side column of "latest videos", has just question marks "??".

<<<< Can somebody help my?. >>>>>

About the QOTD, I can't imagine how you can build trust, which is fundamental in this business, with unknown people on the net, how you can coach them without a bound of commitment, friendship, trust.

I've seen some web sites that offer to get many leads in a short period of time, but I DON'T REALY TRUST THEM.

By the way, congrats Eric, the Vikings are amazing, I hope they can win over New Orleans, I can't believe that a 40 years old QB is playing his best season ever, he is taking chances and getting outstanding results, JUST DO IT. Favre is a good example that paradigms must be broken. Good luck for the Vikings in New Orleans. I want to see in the Super Bowl, the master Favre vs the rockie Sanchez.

    Have a great day

From Puebla Mexico, I am Sergio Quintana
  • Ellis3
This is just a really good reminder of your previous video about Meetings Make Money ... Sherman's story is one I can relate to ... especially about being in the NFL - no friends left ... :)
  • einargh
Ok Mr. Sherman tells us the close contact is in the end the best method. Yes I agree.
  • TAbrams
I have had many people come into the business believing that they can sit back, hide behind a keyboard and build a large, solid, deep organization. Some might be able to and quickly however what I have experienced is that leg or organization has not sustained long term and fades. I believe this business is built on relationships and I love Mr Sherman's "Belly to Belly" comment as even with technology i.e. Webcasts, UStream etc the face to face portion will always remain a must.

If you are persistent and consistently working the business and have activity on going the passage of time will be a friend. If the first two elements are not present or fade then time will be your enemy.

Can't wait for the next few parts.
  • That is a pleasure to start such a great interview today and specially to meet Mr. Sherman Unkefer who seems to be a nice person. I´ve noticed that all the milionaires in network marketing I have been watching by videos have something in common...they seem to be kind...you can feel that on their faces...I think this may be their best secret! ;-)
  • rosslopez
I love the fact this is a face to face business and I agree with you Eric. When you directly talk to people about any idea, the comunication and the message is provided in a fastest way than if we use the technology. Technology will help us to improve our work and getting together with people abroad but will never replace our personal communication.

Getting involved with the company and getting consistent on what we are doing will guide us to become real network marketing professionals.

    Great interview
    Hugs from Mexico
    Rossana =o)
  • Meetings definitely matter but I also think that there is a place to grow your network thru the internet and technology as well. Finding the balance between the two is critical.
  • clairecameron
Meetings and getting tired... the challenge for those of us putting on meetings is to always make it fresh and energetic for the audience no matter how many times we have done it ourselves. And as Associates attending a meeting to come with positive energy to help to create an atmosphere that prospects are going to want to be a part of. Technology has its place - there is great leverage to be had - but so does face to face. It is like complementary medicine as opposed to alternative medicine.
  • Very interesting! I am waiting for more!
  • mikeyfromvegas
Hi Eric, I am glad to hear the compiter may not be the best way to build, only because I don't know it that well. I know this " you can't get a hug and a kiss on the computer. Thank you good job Mikey
  • Great interview so far....look forward to more tomorrow.
  • germanjaramillo
Listening to this interview I arises a concern that I wish it were extended to the whole group:

When a person already has offered its warm list by holding meetings at home, the next step is the cool market through the use of DVDs, CDs and so on.

At what point, then becomes again a person to make their meetings at home with a number of personal guests if that person don't have warm list to invite them because, now the prospects are in cool market? or.... What is the recommendation about this concern?

A big hug from Cali, Colombia.

    Sincerely yours

    -GJ
  • tambry
I would have to say that I enjoyed going to meetings in my area. The top leaders on Vancouver Isalnd aren't doing many anymore because of webcasts, etc. But on the other hand iit does save alot of time. 2 weeks ago I attend a Tampa Celebration through Ustream which was great. I didn't feel like I missed anything not being there.
  • anthonyviglietta
This is excellent. This gives me hope that even if I found a company that wasn't the "right" vehicle, I could just believe in the concept and work hard.
  • keith murfet
Belly to belly - face to face - building relationships with good old fashioned values and integrity. How refreshing to hear that these days! Thank you Sherman and Eric
  • CarlosVera
Do it yourself and then we'll see...............that's something I get a lot. It's good to confirm from successful people that internet can't replace relationships but can only be used as a tool to expand your business instead and not to create it from scratch.
  • JenniferDu79
I definately think that the internet is supposed to make building a business like magic. There still has to be work put into the relationship. People do business with people theyknow like and trust. They can't build that just by an email!
  • julie67
Technology is great but it can not replace the relationships in which this business it built.
  • happyhealthybob
with sites like ustream and soft wear like skype, it is easy, but success leaves clues. You bring up a good point that a great meeting is something people like to come to.
  • Dylan Cooper
Human beings need face to face interaction. Definately. Something different does happen when people are face to face. In my day-job, I have spoken with people regularly on the phone for years but when you finally meet, face to face, it opens up a whole new world for some reason.
  • karivankleef
I can't wait to hear the rest of the interview. Thanks for the daily shows and helping me be consistent with my daily activities.
  • bghcancun
Some many people told me they don´t have so many friends with money, how can i do they undestand this is the way?
  • drkay
Well, you certainly can't argue with success. He has been a professional network marketer long before this last opportunity. There is so much more to the professional than meets the eye. I have so much to learn. Doesn't it always come back to consistency? I can see it is also a progression. This is going to be an interesting 90 days.
  • Tarashon Broomes
Consistency over a period of time, can yield positive results, but the key is being consistent doing the right things that will be productive in your business
  • Interesting that Mr. Unkefer kept going back after three failed attempts. That speaks well of being consistent, not giving up and keeping going even after being called out! I'm reminded of Vince Lombardi's second effort technique.
  • hcapcarp
    Eric,
Having been involved in a couple of failed companies this was a breath of fresh air. Before I got involved with my current company I visited the home office before I began approaching friends and family for another hair brained activity, I am looking forward to see how Sherman resolved the issues I am now facing.
  • hanneretvik
I completely agree that consistency is one of the most important things in this business. But to be sincere, I cannot imagine myself going to 200 meetings a year...,not even to 20, if they are not near to where I live. What happens with the promised freedom of "Working - From - Home" online business 10-15 hours a week? Actually I'm working/studying self-development aso 10-15 hours a day, but the thought of all those meetings scares me a little.
  • smreed
The 'relationship' aspect of our business is so important and attending events in person too. Nothing compares to the incredible energy you feel and get from so many positive minded people all gathering together for the same cause.
Technogoly is a connector too but different. Like here with Eric and his daily video's we can learn and even though we don't all know him personally we feel connected to him because we see him and feel as if he is "talking directly to us" on these video's. So this way technology is fantastic. Face to face in this capacity of everyday growing and learning with Eric just wouldn't be possible for all of us to meet him in person.
  • Great first interview video. That really hit home!
  • barryburgin77
I like it. Consistency...the "C" word. I hear that all the time. One of my biggest challenges. My partner and I just started a core group meeting in our area of california as part of our business plan. And I hear what Mr. Unkefer said, "People will go to a great meeting".
  • luciabrazell
to be honest tech is good but i like meetings you get more of that fuel to get you moving but tech is everywhere but i am going back to the basics just keeping it simple
  • dalejv
Thanks Eric for another great interview!
  • janetrajala
Yes, MLM is a people game, but in today's world that has to be combined with technology. And, it all has to be delivered with consistency. Keep on rolling.
  • neilclements
With every Episode Eric You provide more proof that NWM is the best profession in the world. I have seen so much of myself in these interview subjects. I see a common theme .. 4-5 years to figure it out. Well I am reaching the five year Anniversary in June with the same company. I get it I got it ...Now I am going to finish what I started. 2010 ...love it... predicted 6 figures for 2010 in 2008 for me....and I KNOW this is my Year. Thanks for all your help to date!

    Neil
  • John Spardella
I can really relate to this. 20 years and 10 different MLM companies. One of them I was with twice. You mean there's still hope for me? LoL. Well, with this show and my great new company, I WILL make it this time!
  • Paco_Carreno
Consistency... I love real stories with average time (2 - 3 years). I can't say nothing but congratulations... and let's work hard in developing this type of leader's skills which has that common characteristics... They've experienced some very difficults situation where they could have given up.
  • orlyalbo
I still believe in relationship in this business and in any other business. it's a network marketing every where.
  • crwood1967
Isn't that so true, being consistent is very important. I do think that it is important to have an equal balance of technology and face-to-face meetings.

Interestingly enough, isn't always the people who say they don't want to build a business that build an huge organization.

    Thanks again.
  • gloriavintila
Technology is a tool for promoting the meetings and I don't think it can ever replace face to face interaction. It does support it, yes, but it cannot subsitute it. I have both exclusively technology-based experiences and face-to-face-only experience. They have to coexist and complete each other. But the substance is definitely made by face to face meetings.
  • tylerwhite
Thanks Eric for asking the questions on daily method of activity..... I appreciate it. Your show is so valuable. I am having all my people watch it.
  • peterburrows
We are human beings, we thrive on interacting with each other. It is who we are !
There is no sustitute for face to face contact in all aspects of life, so why should it be any different with Networking.
  • martinvf
"Consistency". To me is been little hard to be consistent in MLM because I have to me consistent in my job also, while MLM gives me the chance to fire my boss and hire him in MLM =o)

    Saludos from Mexico City
  • socorro
thanks Erick, its nothing bettter than a direct contact.
  • Life is about relationships. Technology can support a relationship. It will not build a relationship. At the end of the day when people have to make a discussions about trust, patience and endurance. You will always have to go out there and physically confirm or establish the relationship. That is essence to "depth and width". There is more then meets the eye (read technology) But I for one are happy that technology (same as affordable travel) is available for any one person.
  • Hai
Technology is great and it's too easy to hide behind it and I agree with Sherman & Eric. Can't take place of belly to belly, people to people connections. I sometimes, think there is only one of me and one to one would take me forever to grow my business. Thanks, Eric for saying "you think flooding an email would be quick to build your business but it is not. I feel better to have those meaningful connections. whew! slowly but sure...
  • Technology is a great tool for our profession. It does not replace the face to face and relationship building aspect of our business. Meetings are essential for building our organizations and create excitement that is difficult to duplicate online.
  • Great point there!
having meetings is more personal with a LIVE and Interactive Flair.
And then you've got the body position, facial expressions and so on where everyone can see this during a LIVE meeting.
  • germarl
Many thanks for more priceless information
  • paulsoto
the personal touch of meeting face to face can't be replace by an email...
  • I'm having thesame problems with trust from freinds and relatives
I've tried other ventures that failed and they are waiting to see if this one fails to
  • enrique62
"People like good meetings." and He will do the business even if his previous distributors woldn't follow him.
  • christinaglazar
Well said - so far and I am still newer to the business -- all my business I got was from personal connections I made and through word of mouth. The internet helps a great deal to stay in touch with some of my prospects and customers but it can't replace the personal touch!
  • dstfa96
The message I got from this episode is consistency is the key to becoming successful in our profession of network marketing. In addition meetings make money and our profession is about relationships and there is a connection that can happen with people when you are face to face which is difficult to create utilizing technology.
  • Earl
I believe that you can use technology to help/enhance your face to face relationship. It can't replace it. There is so much that can be gained from face to face, that you can not get from a technology only setting. Just think of the all the great little things that take place at the meeting that you would miss out if you were not there. And I am not just talking about the information that comes across the stage either. The energy and friendships etc.
  • amberaimshigh
I'm looking forward to the next 3 parts!
  • rayrios
Meetings are the way people can see, feel and live the real experience. It is our perception that prevent us from becomeing better. Great interview, much to learn from it. Thanks
  • maariee
Very interesting. Looking forward to hear the rest
  • Million dollar earner Sherman Unkefer
Sherman was in 3 failed companies before he finally achieved success.
He does about 200 meetings per year. Initially, that was in just the USA; later around the World. He says that consistency is a major reason for his success. Why do meetings instead of using technology to stay in touch? Because NM is about building relationships, not hiding behind a monitor. He says people hate to go to bad meetings, but they love to go to great meetings. Meetings make money.

Sign in a Veterinarian's waiting room: "Be back in 5 minutes. Sit! Stay!"
  • hpena
That's so true. If the meeting was well organized and exciting no one complains but if it's not professional and productive than no one will want to attend it again.

  • lauralopez
    Hello Eric
Consistence is one of the clue to succeed, it creats a great habit, and your dream comes true every day and minute to minute if you build your golds and not stop.

  • frankdiaz
Meetings make money.....which means no meetings no Money!!!! Wow in 5yrs .......good insight....
  • gerrynickerson
    Great guest. Never ever quit.
  • Lorraine
I am interested to hear how he was able to build after most of his friends did not want to join him because of his prior failures. I am sure I am not the only one having to rebuild.
  • OK looking forward to the next 3 parts..I can see both sides...I love technology...have members of my team who only build through use of technology...I have others who can barely turn on a computer. I am trying belly to belly, phone, and of course Skype..and now returning to events..because if the events are good as Sherman says ( I have been to a few Xango ones!) and worth people's time..then people can really build...so I'm open to learning it all...my favorite is combining the personal...phone or face to face with sending info through use of technology and follow-up personally if possible...it still comes down to being coming a person of influence that people know, then like, then trust enough to listen to...
  • I agree with Mr. Unkerfer! Although technology can be one way of meeting people. Nothing can ever beat the importance of meeting someone face to face to create that personal relationship. After all, that is what network marketing is all about.
  • bartar20
Very down to earth gentleman, I look forward to tomorrows issue.

    Barry
  • highimpact0406
Very interesting Eric. I keep hearing the word "consistency" in this line of business, guess that is what it is going to take! Look forward to the future segments with Sherman.
  • I agree 100% - there is nothing like a face to face with someone!
  • miguel
I cant wait for tomorrow piece...
  • carybennett
Very good stuff i always say belly to belly is king mixed with some good technology, thanks and look forward to more..
  • HoracioMejia
What would be a definition of a "good meeting"? Only face to face meetings are good meetings? I follow the idea of using technology as a tool. Given the fact that both the source and the receiver of the business opportunity message know that technology will be used, then I think that a virtual meeting can bring the same results as a face to face one. On the other hand, if face to face is possible and easy to do, then technology should not be considered. So, in my opinion, both virtual and face to face can be the best choice depending on who, when and where.
  • so true...meetings make money..where i live we have had a decline in mettings..and it shows on the negative side ! So back on the horse and do meetings, and if there is no meeting, make one !
  • pech
I totally agree with Sherman Unkefer the importance of personal meetings. It is a well-known facts that when you need to communicate effectively means body language 60%, tone 30% and words 10%.
  • Another interesting looking interview - I'm looking forward to more episodes :)
  • bartonmurray
meetings, meetings...what if you have no meetings going on in your area? great info but I like technology!
  • MagnusEdvald
    Valuable.
  • GOOD meetings make money! I like that.
  • GradyPolcyn
Thanks for getting him on your show. I have heard about him, as a top leader and am very excited to see the rest of this interview.
  • brianhepner
All the top earner's talk about blinder's and "consistancy". Almost the first words out of thier mouth's. I think that mean's alot. Time to get rich working. Brian Hepner
  • I do know some people who've built huge businesses fast online, but I really can't think of a single one that built a lasting business - unless they figured out a way (local meetings!) to build cohesiveness within their group. Looking forward to the other clips ...

    Best,
    Scott
  • Interesting.. We will find many different views on this subject.. No doubt meetings make money. I was a part of that system for 4 years and was very successful. . However, for the past year I have been involved with webinars and they too make money.

I will never argue that this is not a belly to belly business. Although, I believe you can build a great business online as long as you take it offline. Relationships are key!
  • lorijones
Sherman I was so excited to see this interview with you and Eric. You have always been an inspiration to me as I've built my business. I look forward to the rest of your interview!
    Lori
  • lopazelasane
Your absolutely right people dont like going to meetings without any culture and especially if its a pitchfest.
  • I can definitely relate to going to your warm market a third or fourth time. Another great one Eric... can't wait to see tomorrow's show!
  • "people may not want to go to bad meetings however they love to go to great meetings"...how true is that ! Looking forward to ramping our meetings up this year and seeing the great results !
  • Edith Kohler
It's always very interesting when the big earners are talking.
They are the ones with the most experience
And I really learn a lot of them
    Can't wait untill tomorrow
  • BobandPam
Face to face and events, are a support system for you, your organization and the company, which also turns into an awesome growth experience if utilized correctly. Looking forward to part 2.
  • jacob stiner Israel
Hey Eric the secret of the business relationship between people in network marketing will always be
  • You know, I have found that the people that really "get it" share their belief in simple language.
This episode is another example. "consistency".... "with a company I feel good about"...."people love to go to great meeings"..."join with a click, quit with a click".
I am looking for your next episode.
  • gmeyerson
Great interview, excited to hear what he did to get the business off the ground since his warm market declined
  • gerritbronkhorst
Good to hear from all kind of different people around the industry and concluding that it every time comes down to the same simple system.
  • marycalvillo
There's that consistency message again. Thank you!
  • turjcxg
Eric, thank you for posting this show. What he said about his friends saying NO to him after 3 tries, THAT'S how I feel!!! Although I did succeed with my first network marketing business my friends (who were let go from their corporate jobs) still said no anyway! So I went ahead and started a 2nd network marketing business with a company (that's where I am today). I can't wait to see what he says tomorrow.
  • This interview has been great so far! I'm curious to know if you and Sherman could share some warning signs that the company you have affiliated with may not be the place to put forth all your best efforts?
  • I totally agree. Consistent Face to face, belly to belly meetings with people are key components in the way to build a successful network marketing business. Technology has it's place in that it allows you to build relationships with people who you many not have been able to connect with before using other tools. Once you have made the connection online, I believe it is critical to take it offline and continue to build the relationship from there. It eliminates the challenge of its only 1 click to join and one click to leave.
Thanks again. Looking forward to tomorrows episode.
    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
    -ed
  • After watching your Best Year Ever webinar, we've decided to make meetings part of our duplication process. Our first one will be this Saturday, and we plan to have them monthly. Any tips for making it amazing?
  • raybeattie
Face to Face, consistently is the way to build. I have always liked working face to face with people. The more high tech we get, the more high touch we want, at least for me.
  • Jillian
I am interested to hear the next episodes - but it seems to be a consistent fact that face to face encounters are still the preferable modus operandi of choice. Technology advances at a huge rate but the personal touch is still key.
  • timandtricia
Great point...people love good meetings. Meetings that are filled with enthusiastic, fun people who are in motion and successfully building a business can go a long way toward building belief for distributors and prospects. But it's definitely a two edge sword. Less than stellar meetings can do more harm than good.
  • gabor73
    Hi Eric,

Stand up ones more than you fail and just do it until the job gets done. Nice work!
  • dougharkins
The Internet is a tool to find prospects. to invite then to a meeting. Where I or my leaders can interact with them for that personal relationship.
  • garyparmenter
I agree that technology is great, but will never replace meeting face to face. Having great events is also essential! It is encouraging to hear. Most of the now successful network marketers, struggled in the beginning. Working with a great company and products. Perseverance and consistancy pays!
  • denisekay
Meetings are critical. Put people in a room and feel the energy. People need people to live amd to learn.
Technology is wonderful and helps to make life happen faster.
  • fc34615
I agree about the importance of F2F meetings; however, those of us who we prospect internationally must rely on the advantages that technology has to offer.
I am looking forward to watching the rest of the interview.
    Thank you, Eric.
    Best,
    Fernando.
  • What some of us need to know: a couple of examples of a day to day schedule of what our actions should be. What sort of routine should be followed to be consistent. I don't really mean creating the relationships but the planner to do follow ups and how to close. How to avoid the "I'll let you know" when you try to get the prospect to the next reunion.
  • Day to day schedules is something I am always fascinated with.
  • You have to be a people person. And if your not...LEARN to be a people person. Direct contact makes direct sales.
  • eugenejohnson
Yes love this episode ....Consistency..... Success doesn't happen in a day it happens Daily!!!
  • PaulineP
I agree...face to face is the relationship and all else is the support and tools. People readyyour messages with your voice, and follow up, consistency and belief. Tools cannot substitute for talking and listening.
  • Much depends on the type of meetings. For me personally home meetings in my village after a number of years of prospecting. However, a meeting can be one on one. Sherman says meetings are about building relationships and I agree.
Much of my work is now Internet based where I talk and meet many people BUT there is nothing like meeting the person for real, reaching out, shaking hands, watching the body language, tone of voice etc.getting to really know people as HUMAN BEINGS that we are.
  • onemartymac
Meetings Make Money and are necessary to move your business. People want to be with People, the internet is just a tool not a replacement for meetings.

    Thanks
  • Sherman is right on when he talks about MLM being a belly to belly business. There are NO short-cuts. The internet and social media are awesome as long as you do it in addition to the core activities that Sherman is talking about!

You can use technology to host meetings. I think you can use a combo of both.
  • eugenejohnson
I mean no disrespect asking this....but Im curious to know who u are ....because there are a lot of show that have commentary that pop up from u and it has been on my mind every time I see it so I wanted to finally ask...lol....I hope your not offended .....I am just curious
  • quincy
I like what he said about doing this business "belly to belly". Sometimes I feel like Im being pulled in two directions between face to face or using the internet. In building relationships with people its better to be high touch instead of high tech.
  • It's so good to hear all those different story's from top earners around the world, no matter which company their involved with. Bottum line is that all fundamentals are the same. I'm looking forward to tomorrows show. Thanks for sharing another giant with us Mr. Worre. Best regards from your biggest fan.
  • Donna Wheaton
    Good Morning Eric

It was nice to hear again despite the wave of the electronic world that meetings are still a force that will move you forward. Network Marketing is a relationship business. You need face to face encounters what technology has done was to make it easier to reach people internationally from skype or others. Can't wait for the rest of the week.
  • Nancy
Encouraging to hear stories of perseverance. Cannot have success without having experienced failure.
    Developing relationships most important
  • Melli
I agree it´s a business of building relationships.
  • sbratt
Face to face meetings you get a differente Feeling than being Behind a PC.
  • I agree. It is about building relationships. The internet is good as long as you work the internet in addition to the core operations. There are NO short-cuts!
  • quincy
I agree with you Tyler. Unlike corporate America there are NO short-cuts here.
  • Everyone is looking for the short cut or the one golden nugget. It is called work!

Even in corp American there are no short cuts anymore. Corp America is trimming the fat and the ones that create value are the ones that do well.

    Thanks for the reply Quincy!
  • chriskemp817
Network Marketing is a relationship business. Belly to belly.
  • kristibateman
Great stuff Eric. Can't wait until tomorrow.
  • Matt Genet
Favorite line so far "People hate to go to bad meetings, but they love to go to great meetings."

He is just confirming that doing the basics well is key.
  • eddyoshaughnessy
If you want to build relationships I think you have to do face to face meetings
  • ulla99
Look forward to next part. Leadership in company is very, very important, and distributors deserv their repect.
  • Warm market is where it's at. The key is to tap into other peoples warm market and build credibility thru them. Glad to get a peak at part 2.
  • caronwashington
Sounds like another great interview on the way. It was encouraging to hear that he was in other companies before and didnt have success now hes a million dollar a yr earner. So many people get involved in 1 company and dont have success then they never are close minded to the profession. I like what he said about consistency and being belly to belly. This seems to be a common theme among all the top earners
  • I like the that Sherman said that 'people love to go to great meetings' and they are the belly to belly stuff, fully agree with meetings make money. Same message from all these leaders, 'consistency'!
  • Arnold Thompson
Never Quit... Stay consistent and NEVER quit!! I need to hear that because I have had a lot of failure in the past but I know that as long as I never quit, it will happen for me as well. Thanks.
  • conniegleave
LOVE LOVE LOVE Scottsdale! Just spent a week going from golf course-to-golf course. Shot an 83 from the 'whites' at Rancho Manana...gosh that felt great!!

What a great way to describe the draw-back from internet sign ups: If they join with a click, they can quit with a click. Meetings Mean More Money!!!
  • ericworre
    Nice playing! 83... wow!
  • conniegleave
Thanks...unfortunately I messed up on the back nine with a 44! But...I'll take it!! Hee hee (You must be a golfer)?

BTW...I'm really learning a lot from your videos...thanks for all the time I KNOW you're putting into them.

    Connie Gleave
  • I think the underlying mssg was "don't give up" - looking frwd to hearing more.
  • rmonte
Nothing will replace the face to face meetings. There's a part of us that can only be fed and fueled at live events.
    Rick M
  • destrie
Great start to the interview Eric! Technology cant replace building relationships in this industry.
  • Can't wait to hear what Sherman has to say in the next 3 parts.
  • Daniel Glez.Peña
Hi Eric, I think the meetings is the most important thing in our business, been with the people, meet them, face to face it´s better than the internet, the technology it´s only a tool.

    Saludos.
    Daniel y Natali,Qro.
  • GREAT start to the interview....looking fwd to part 2. What about using technology not just to send out 1000 emails, but setting up interviews by phone while guiding them thru your website and having a conversation, doesn't that create a good connection with them?
  • Episode 12 of Eric Worre's 100 Episode Throw Down Challenge:

Talk about working your face off! 200 meetings a year! WOW! I see the value in Sherman's statements right away.

QOTD: Technology will never replace a face to face meeting, belly to belly is what takes a business relationship to the next level. I learned this early on in my sales career. I had called on several clients by phone several times with no results. The first time I meet with them they instantly started working with me, many for the duration of my tenure with my company. THe minute I left they did too. All because Of the face to face interaction and the Trust built through those meetings.
  • Great topic about associates saying no because the last 4 ventures didn't work. Also great comment about the initial reaction to the first call was no then led to yes.
  • brigittapatel
    Pearl of this interview:
    Consistency and patience.

    Thanks a million
  • I started my business primarily using the Internet. I think it's a great tool to use to reach out to people who we wouldn't normally have had access to, but it doesn't replace one-to-one personal interaction.

I think there's a big difference between a boring, stuffy presentation and a meeting that is fun. I've developed a lot of great online relationships, but nothing replaces that bond when you can shake a real hand, give a real hug or look at someone eye to eye.
  • gmolina
Having multi failures over a period of time is discouraging but having a vision and being consistent pays off in the long run.. And I totally agree with the face to face interaction, because it makes it more personable, not only to you but the person your trying to introduce your product to.. Great incite today! Thanks
  • Bryan_in_KC
Technology is a great sorting tool, but can never replace the power of the face to face encounter.
  • AdvocareJax
More Meetings Mean More Money is something very simple to remember. That ties into your earlier teaching point of the most important skill to learn is to get people to impending events.
  • Bernadette
Meetings are a great way to boost on'es enthsiaism or for a new person to catch the excitement. The key is to have diversity and not put all of you eggs into meetings.
    Thanks Eric and Sherman.
  • Bjorgli
I have to trust the company and the products. Perhaps that's why I'm back with the company after a breake of 6 -7 years.
And without the technology we have'nt had this great education. I can bring others with me to watch you.
  • I agree Bjorgli, Eric's "face-to-face" interviews are a perfect way to use technology. On a daily basis, I feel as if I am in the same room with Eric and his guest, and then have the privelege to type a few words as contribution to the conversation. How do the rest of you feel about being present with these excellent interviews?
  • Bjorgli
    Thank you, Camille.
Your comment give me the feeling of sitting together with you, sharing
    the wonderful teaching.
I would not have experienced this, without the technology of today. Great!!!
    Bjorgli

  • Another great interview from a successful network marketer who didn't give up when the going got tough and stayed consistent. If Plan A doesn't work, switch to Plan B and keep going. Can't wait to hear the next interview on how he built his business with Plan B.
  • 200 meetings a year is 4 every week with two weeks off a year. I have been to meetings that altered my world where the difference they made was profound, immediate, and permanent AND forever. Unfortunately I compare every meeting I attend to that potential. Meetings with an intention to entertain are not entertaining while producing little if any results. Meetings that attempt to make up for a lack of substance with volume and noise are poor versions of the worst rock n roll concerts I ever attended. Context is everything. The background context of a meeting does not have to be spoken to be present. A commitment to excellence occurs in how the chairs are setup, how people are dressed and how people are greeted when they arrive. What it takes to produce an exceptional meeting can be taught and learned by nearly everyone.

I have studied online marketing for a number of years and the same is not true. Becoming good or better than average at SEO, PPC, website design, capture pages, autoresponders and a dozen other aspects of online marketing costs a fortune to learn and only the GREAT ones make any real money. In fact if you look at all the online names that are making a serious income they have dozens and hundreds of employees to support and produce their operations. Not my idea of a home based business and impossible to duplicate. Where online networking is best is some of the early sorting that must be accomplished to find the few you are looking for. However no one gets into this business with YOU until they know you, like you and trust you. PPC, SEO, web pages and autoresponders do NOT provide any of that. At best they give you an introduction with someone.

The worst meeting you attend with someone provides the moments needed for relationship building to occur. To paraphrase Randy Gage, you cannot be at a bad meeting with the right person. Who you are being makes the difference.
  • margarethockaday
Once you find the right company that you are comfortable with as well as the people you will work to reach your goals. The same I hear from all the top producers is consistency and meetings make money. Personal relationships are the keys. Thanks
  • kgoren
With so many people having had bad prior experiences with network marketing, I am finding it difficult to get them to even take a look. I can relate to what Sherman was saying. Having your friends say that they are going to wait to see how you do. Boy, are they going to be sorry they waited.
  • theuns
    Hi Eric

Thanks a gain, I love what Sherman say.

well on this moment i cant go to meeting but thanks to skype
today i can talk face to face with my dowe line that sit in the States
an i sit in South Africa , personal for me i fall in love with Social media
    The way i do it.

No car but a lot of friends that i skype and team work like i never have before
    and Consistency is king.

As we know it does not matter how many times you fall but how many times we stand
up and go on, and i did that, and now i use the tools i can use and things realy start to happen.

    Enjoy your day

    Theuns

  • shawncyr
Well, I feel as if I am the next Sherman. I started and got going well quickly and then didn't do what was working. I wasn't consistent. I was managing. I failed. Now I am going to do it again, but this time I am going to be consistent, and I am not going to manage. I am going to lead by example and help as many people as I can handle - my core group. Help them with inviting, presenting and growing and then showing others how to do the same.
Looking forward to the next show.
  • lisamb84
Meeting people over the Internet or the phone (I was a cold lead for my sponsor, responding to a radio ad) is definitely a wonderful thing, but we all still do need that personal touch. I know that I need to be energized by getting together locally with distributors, so a bunch of us who are crossline to one another meet once monthly to encourage each other. It keeps us pumped in the face of challenges! I'm looking forward to the rest of the interview with this amazing networker!
  • I like how this interview is starting. Technology will never replace belly to belly and it's not meant to. What it does is allows us to come into contact with people (any type of lead generation, attraction marketing, etc) we wouldn't have ever met otherwise. It allows us to to communicate on a more regular basis to support and train our organizations. Hopefully, for all of us one here, we know that to be a network marketing professional, we must develop our skills, be totally committed to the process, 'pay the price' in effort, and also learn how to leverage the internet as a tool, but definitely not expect it to replace us from actually going to work with our team.
  • I love how you mix it up.... Training, interviews. Great balance! Thanks as always.
  • kellylanley
Wow - 200 meetings/year. Seeing a pattern here in the millionaire's club, and it's meetings!
  • Technology is very helpful in our business but you cannot rely totally on it. To build a solid organization you have to work face to face as much as possible.
I'm looking forward to the next part of the interview with Mr. Unkefer.
  • jlconner
I understand that technology shouldn't replace meetings but we must use technology along with meetings. Good stuff today. I look forward to tomorrow.
  • I agree, good cliff hanger like many other can't wait for tomorrow. Building relationships and consistency are two areas I need to work on and are critical to my success.

  • great cliff hanger there... looking fwd to part 2
  • Great start to what I expect to be a wonderful interview full of great information.
I believe the meetings create more of a sense of urgency than an email. Consistency and follow through on the piquing process, build great teams.
  • shawncyr
While I agree with meetings creating a sense of urgency, I feel it's more a feeling of belonging and friendship. I mean, we all want success, but we also want to belong to something important and an email or website don't convey that as well as in person with other people.
Follow through is a must. It's been my weakest link:(
  • yes, I can see the feeling of belonging to something bigger than just you.
  • bdsfortune
consistency, keep going out to battle, never quitting! = wealth and freedom! THANKS AGAIN! look forward to other interview
  • dlinkhart
Good information. How do we find out what great company he is a distributor of?
  • Watch the segment again. :-)
  • Eileen
So now I want to know what Sherman actually did to start building?
  • keithraines
Meetings are an important part of the process of recruiting but how do you recruit long distance without using technology. Webinars are used by my team for a first look then we hook them up with local support once assoociates... thoughts??
  • shawncyr
If you can, find out if there are any reps of your company in the area your prospect is. If that's the case, see it they will help you with your prospect - get them to a meeting of some sort and answer questions for you. Talk about a great third party tool, and you can call them to see what they think.
    Other than that...not sure.
  • ritafulton
Can't wait til tomorrow..200 meetings year!! Sherman is great to listen to..

    Thanks guys!!
  • juanfernandogutierrez
Consistant!! that is so true. 200 hundread contacts a year, this can be done with the two a day. In the part of the meetings; there is nothing like a face to face meeting. I love tecnology; but withe the face a face I really find the leaders
  • Interesting to find out how many meeting Sherman attended at the beginning when funds were short.

Love the attitude of not giving up and beeing fearless having been knocked down 3 times before. Then there is the work ethic, definitely something to learn there. Despite the massive opportunity he still needed to go out there and make it happen and that usually happens after ACTION and BELIEF.

Looking forward to the next episode ... thanks Eric.
  • Denise Cox
Bringing us back to the GREAT mtg. CANNOT wait to be on this webinar and find out how I can provide tan awesome meeting to my team!!
  • tjsknmp
    Another great interview.
  • nikomachi
I am looking forward to the full interview as I belive that technology can help alot if used properly. But I am open to everything
  • agelfederico
Interesting, many top income earners, have been in different companies before make in it big! Any thoughts on that?

No, meetings cannot be replaced by anything!
  • hillin
Great thank you and thank you technology which able us getting information faster and easier then ever (Skype) In my opinion technology in our sector is still too fresh to make any conclusion yet. Generations are changing and people habbits too. Let us see with time the goods and the bads that technology will bring to our profession.
  • kayanita
Now that was a teaser, can't wait for tomorrow! In ur training, Eric you said 3 meetings a month. I am still with the same company but I am different. How do you decide good day & time for meetings? Kay
  • MarvinTowler
Success leaves clues. ~Tony Robbins. Jack Canfield says to get a mentor. Tony Robbins did it, Jack Canfield did it, and every successful network marketing pro has done it. Thank you Eric for being our mentor!!!

    Consistency + Time = Results

I love that! People don't like to go to bad meetings!!!
  • andreabyrge
I understand the importance of meetings, but I read conflicting opinions in nwm books on whether you should even do larger meetings. Everyone recommends Mark Yarnell's book Your first Year..., but he really discourages hotel meetings and it seems for some very good reasons. On the flip side, it seems to work (although my local team and our company in general, refuse to add all the hype). We simply share what our nwm business and company is doing for US. What was meant by meetings in this interview?
  • pollyhulseman
I love this - can't wait to hear the rest of it. It is so great to listen to people who have struggled in the business and now have succeeded the way the rest of us are learning to do.
  • Eye ball to eye ball, relationships and consistency. Practice the fundamentals you have been teaching daily and success will come.
    Thanks,
  • bethascoli
Well, I don't think that anything can replace the live events, and it's so important to have meetings going on every week that people can plug into. I do think that technology has a huge impact on our businesses though, especially when you have a lot going on in different areas. For example, I used to have to train some people over the phone, now I do it through online videos or Skype, because I just couldn't connect with someone as well if I we weren't looking at each other. I am a face to face kind of person (HATE the phone), and I love seeing you do these interviews with Skype because it shows how it is possible to have these face to face interactions even if you can't be in the same physical location. So to sum it up, I think live is always best if possible, but technology is great for filling in the gaps when you have someone in another location.
  • shawncyr
Totally agree with your summation. We are in network MARKETING. Marketing is much more than word of mouth. It's hitting your market all the time. You want people thinking of you when they think of your service type or product type. Letters, articles, emails, blogs, post cards, invitations, surveys, posters, samples, testimonials, phone calls, websites, business cards, promos, etc. Definitely want to fill in the "gaps" between meetings.
  • Pete
Your messages encourage me every day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • billrogers
I look forward to hearing from these 7 figure earners. Consistent is what I picked up in this first part and the fact that he continues to do face to face even though technology is available. Net working is a people to people business.
  • manalfakhoury
Enjoyed the interview and agree about consistency!
Also liked the comment about meeting the owners of the company.
  • Jeroen Lingier
"If they can join with a click, they can quit with a click".
Also: the way mr. Unkefer handled his fourth entry to MLM was great. Just by honesty and showing his belief through his reasons.
    Great stuff, Eric.
You got me hooked for the rest of the interview.
From Belgium, this is Jeroen Lingier
  • tomlacey
The consistency and persistency themes are loud and clear.
  • Dee_Canada
Another excellent information piece Eric. Sherman said it so well. "This is a belly to belly, face-to-face business...If you can join with a click, you can leave with a click". I agree wholeheartedly with those statements. Interestingly, this is the second time in less than 12 hours that a leader used the term "belly-to-belly" in a conversation about this business. If we really think about it, would you go into ANY serious business venture with anyone without having a personal connection with some one else in that business? Maybe some big wigs do it...buy and sell in such an anonymous fashion, but the majority of people want that personal contact.
Can't wait for the next chapter!
  • Marion
Meetings Make Money & Consistency - great mantra too.
On a personal note - I was originally introduced to my company via the internet by a warm market person and I clicked delete! I didn't take the opportunity to look at the business until we met face to face months later. Face to face is far more powerful, but the internet is great for maintaining relationships and for training resources such is this terrific show.
  • Dee_Canada
So true!! I do the same thing!! So many people inundate us with offers of riches that it becomes annoying. meetings...face to face...nothing can replace them!
  • shawncyr
Totally! It's like a vaccine that we've become immune to. "Get Rich Now doing nothing!" "Get rich quick" "No problems, the product/service sells itself"
Face to face let's you share your vision, and sharing your visions is more than just words. It even allows for interaction, making them a part of something and hooking them.
  • ybimbalanced
Something to think about, I have had better success with the online trainings. Thanks!
  • Denise Cox
i think that the comment here deserves some clarification. technology is awesome for so many things in nwm. ordering product is one of them!! hello!

some training, like this website, i would consider invaubale and really the only way to get eric's time or 5-10 minutes a day, 5 days a week. however, would you replace your company's yearly big meeting? or any big meeting your company puts on for that matter??

there's something magical that cannot be put into words that happens with that many people together, physically, in one place.

if "they" weren't "there," who would we watch?? that's deep!!
  • bethascoli
    Denise,

I totally agree with your comments. I actually find technology useful for basic training of new people because it can be automated, but nothing can replace the company's big annual events, or even monthly team events. People need to connect with that energy! It also makes it real for them.
  • ybimbalanced
Good points. I was referring to only the trainings I do, the company sponsored trainings, major events, etc can not be replaced by technology! I was thinking more along what Mr. Unkefer was referring to with doing 200 trainings a year. I find holding online trainings seem to draw a larger number of people for the smaller or "personal" meetings. Thanks for the response.
  • pickertn
That's what I like about this form of business, it is old school, face to face.... And someday I will perfect this consistency thing!
  • Gakungu
It's always a great experience when you interview these great leaders, Eric. Their stories enable me to continue working my network marketing business. Sherman is right, meetings are good so that your prospects see your excitement. Sometimes technology plays a good role if you do a three way call.
  • "If they can join with a click, they can quit with a click". I love it.

I prospect online and offline and see the power of both. However, I've never had a distributor "stick it out" that joined before a phone or in person conversation.
  • bryantkeefe
The only "no" that matters is the one we tell ourselves. If I refuse to hear the "no" I tell myself then the rest is easy. Great message about getting going a 4th time and the 4th time is the winner. How many of us quit after the first or second failure? Way too many is my answer. Did you see Brett Farve yesterday? Did you see a hungry, competitive "old" guy winning? Brett wanted the win more than anyone else based on body language alone and Brett got the win in a big way. It is only over when they close the lid and even then who knows?
  • Nancy Eldred
It means EVERYTHING when we hear another million $$ dollar earner tell their story of how they started in this business. We relate to THAT, because it's REAL, we're all the SAME starting out. Here's another individual that made it happen, even going through 3 previous companies.

Now we're all hangin' off our chairs for part 2, 3 and 4 - then the uncut version in full on Friday !!!
  • andreas
meetings, meetings, meetings!!!! They will never be replaced! Great stuff guys!
  • Art D lasvegas
Feel comfortable with the company you're with and get face to face with people.....great way to start.
  • Maxwellhealth
Another common theme that all should feel encouraged about...Consistancey of Action......as to technology vs face to face...my goodness technologies are but the tools, accelerators of business building so to speak, and not a replacement for face to face.....
  • carolbarrett
Thanks Eric and Sherman. Great interview. I can't wait to see tomorrow's show. I could relate to Sherman's story as I too was involved in several companies prior to my present company and I too was a member of the NFL.
  • Kjell Englund
Great words of wisdom, I take them to my toolbox :-)
  • emmettb
This is interesting, I wonder how many of us would take on another company after 3 failures? Sherman must have had some success with the other companies, knowing that this was the way. Good show, can't wait till tomorrow!
  • Ernesto_Busnelli
Amazing to see how different types of personalities can make it happen.
We have a lot of head chatter saying I am too this or too that but
I guess it is just finding your angle.
  • Great interview to start the day and week with.
  • drmikempa
The face to face meeting hasn't been replaced 20 years into the internet!
  • hlj521
This is great! I am an advocate of meetings because I love to be around people. Relationships make the world-go-round no matter what your business is.
I can not wait for tomorrows show. Great Job once again!
  • fredlund
Just as building our businesses requires a consistent effort, watching networkmarketingpro.com requires the same consistency which continues to build my own belief that I WILL succeed, consistently over time.
  • Here as promised.. consistently.
  • When you challenged each of us who participated in your past Webinar, on the importance of running meetings to promote our business, I was a bit frustrated knowing that you were right, but as well, aware that I did not have the fundamental blocking and tackling of how to utilize this suggestion for these type of meetings. With the series of recent daily blogs and your upcoming program, Becoming a World-Class EVENT Promoter on February 3, I am confident that you will present “Best Practices" on how to implement the fundamental building blocks for a successful network marketing meeting. I should have known that you would be following up on this. Can't wait as I have a major event taking place on February 24, and I am sure that many of your suggestions will be helpful in making this a memorable and successful experience. The goal of the meeting is to enroll as many prospects as possible. This will only happen if, our group presents a logical and well thought out plan, to qualified prospects, that are at 12:00! :) I will keep you up to date on this initiative and give you feedback on how your suggestions helped to shape our anticipated success. Thanks
  • rasdaniels
Cliff Hanger - can't wait for tomorrow. What an inspiring interview. Must be consistent; must have consistent activity; people do not like to go to bad meetings; they like exciting meetings. This is a belly to belly business and meetings make money!!! Thanks Eric
  • Ria Leermakers
This weekend I experienced again how inportant the meetings are, how important it is to contact with the people. That's true for the people in my own group, but also for the contact with the people in the total organisation. It gave me al lot of new energy to move on.

Half a sentence is a way too to end an interview! Can't wait to hear the rest of it.
  • mbryant
Nice cliff-hangar ending. Initial impression of the interview is very positive. Look forward to the rest of it.
  • talya_mitzafon
NM is all about relationships. People join us, people want to work with us. Great meetings are the fuel of our business. Internet and technology are good ways to contact friends/family who lived far away and to built new relationships. I am looking forward to the next session.
  • Tony
I like this. Sherman doesn't come across as one of the 'cool" guys. It just shows how different personalities can make it in the business.
  • patrickmcfeely
How do you get better at live events, be part of it.Sherman did not give up keep looking foward.
Thank you for your time Eric
  • Cee_G
    Hi Eric..
Very good interview with straight talk. Looking forward to the next episode. I agree about the meetings - in person, you can feel the energy. But the internet has its place if you are working with someone in another country, etc. Thank you!
  • donham298
Once again, you have a great interview going.
Belly to Belly is the theme we will be hearing during this series.
    All good.
  • Katie N
I agree it is a cliff hanger. I am anxious to hear tomorrow's show. It is tough to get people to follow you when you are just starting out.
  • Foord Yates
    Hey Eric
I like the concept of the Million Dollar Earner series. Always great personalities, good insights, highlights, and backgrounds.
The millions are coming my way!

    Foord Yates
  • Lisette
I´m looking forward to see the show tomorrow.
    You made a cliff-hanger...
I personally love these big events that my company have, because it`s there I get my energy.

The thing that I don't like about meetings is that they are not duplicatable by everyone. That's how you end up with the lousy meetings that Mr. Unkefer is talking about. If you are not someone who can personally put on a great meeting, then you become dependent on having someone else in your area who can do a great meeting. That person may or may not exist.
Also, if you take your prospects to a meeting, it gives them a chance to discover that there might be other people in your company that they would rather work with than you. Especially if you are a relative beginner, it is only natural for many of the people that you take to meetings to want to gravitate to someone else in the company that is more experienced, successful, and accomplished. This is especially true if you don't really have a personal relationship with your prospects.
Many people thinking about getting into a business have no desire to personally relate to very many other people. They are looking for something easy that they can do without getting out of their comfort zone.

I agree that some meetings have a bad culture, and I would want to keep my people away from that too. That's why it's important to learn how to host good meetings - you don't have to be a good speaker, you could get someone else to speak, just create a meeting that you would want to bring peopel to. But it sounds like your trouble might be with the type of people you're prospecting. For one thing, if they do have a personal relationship with you at all, then you shouldn't be worried about them wanting to join with someone else. People do business with people they know, like and trust. If they don't know, like or trust you, maybe you should try to develop the relationship a little more before introducing them to the business. Second, if you're bringing in people who want something easy and don't want to relate with others, you might want to consider the message you're putting out about the businness - you could be attracting the wrong kind of people.

I'm not trying to sound preachy here, just sharing my thoughts based on my own experiences. I have also been dissapointed in a lot of meetings, and there are some that I refuse to bring guests to, but when that happens, you need to create your own meeting - your team needs a place they can bring their guests for another exposure. On my team, we start with a DVD, but after that a prospect needs to see that there are other people involved, I think that is the reason meetings are so valuable.

Thank you for your excellent response to what I said. What you said is right on and gives me a lot of things to really think about.

BTW-it seems like today's topic has really prompted a lot of good comments.

Wow - Great interview and tantalising ending! Can't wait for the rest.
  • jeffreyhall
It all about relationships and consistency. Maybe too straightforward for these that think there is magic.
  • I guess, all of person you interviewed ERIC, give the same TIP in addition to many others and that is CONSISTENCY! and thats what I lack when I started the business and I improved this a lot after viewing a lot of interviews of million dollar earners.

About use of technology in our business, I am a Information Technology professional but I never made this misktake, I have created a GROUP for our business awareness on facebook and maintaining it just to pass on knowledge to others about the industry and fair facts of our business.

Since I got a lot of value by watching your videos consistently, I always promote this Networkmarketingpro.com over there so rest of people can add value to thier work and can get success out of it.

Thanks you ERIC, m deadly waiting for the rest of interview.

    See you tommorrow.
  • Another fair point - we all need some leverage at times and technology can be used to keep in touch and follow up as well as for the disemmination of information via quick voice, audioboo, video etc.
  • latachia_2
Consistancy, doing the same things over time.......QOTD Watching a video of a meeting would be like telling your son to watch the Kiss Concert on the You Tube! BIG Difference. Being at something live, there is an energy from all of the people in the room (or arena or whatever) that would be impossible to get any other way.And the people that go to the meeting or event know that it's live & a very real thing.
you just cannot create that on a video. For all that the people know that's watching a video, that it could be just something fake & staged.A live meeting or event is a very real thing.

Words of wisdom, I love it.
I think there is room for both tools. E-mail kan be okei for a start , but you have to follow
    up by phone or meetings.

  • Great start to this interview. Time and again we hear it. Consistency consistency consistency is the real key to success. If you do a little each day you'll accomplish more in 6 months than most MLMers do in 6 years!

Some good points on meetings too. I believe that nothing generates excitement and trust like face to face contact. MLM is a business built round the kitchen tables of the world, and it's about building long term relationships.

  • soxfan071
There is no doubt that my small local group has more excitement when we have meetings in person. I also have become more aware that consistancy in something that works is key.
    Thank you!

Hei, visdomsord .. Jeg elsker det.
    Takk begge to så mutch.
Jeg tror det er plass for begge verktøy. Først en e-post og deretter følge opp på telefon
    eller møter.

    Ha en fin dag.

Sounds like another great learning experience on the way, looking forward to Friday!

Another topic: I noticed that some people (at the bottom of this page of comments) seem to think that contributing to the discussion on this forum means just forwarding this page on Twitter everyday and by that they think by doing that 100 times they are truly and sincerely contributing to this great community. I don't know about how all the other real contributors to this page feel about that, who like me try to watch and think and contribute/add something of myself on a daily basis, but I for one consider it somewhat easy and cheap. And I am open for correction and different points of view, but that's what I've been feeling for awhile and now thought it was time to raise this issue. It bothers me! How about the rest of you out there?

Thanks, Eric for another honest look at how easy/difficult it really is to overcome past failures and start all over again approaching the same people once again, who all tend to say "no, thanks" although we offer them the best thing going in our eyes! Looking forward to hear tomorrow how he dealt with all that and still achieve great success in 7 years time! Amazing and what an example to follow!
  • Excellent Point Hans. Thank you for raising the issue. Personally, I have felt a shift since I have consistently watched the shows and commented on each one.
  • Hans, your point is right on. One of the things that is challenging with the followers who just forward a twitter, is that they take up space and don't fill it with anything worthwhile. Wasting time for all of us while they meet their obligation with a empty effort.
  • Hans
Exactly my points, probably expressed in an even clearer way! Thanks, Bill!

The other thing I meant to comment is that I don't really think Eric set the bar that high for us. When we read his original challenge he wasn't really asking for us to write completely original works of literature and create pieces of art. I wonder if we will hear from the man himself today and would be interested to hear his point of view on this issue. Eric?
  • Marion
    Hans,
I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that way back in the beginning of NMPro Eric encouraged everyone with a twitter account to post the show if they wanted - so this could be the reason. I am not sure whether they make other posts with comments as well.
  • BobandPam
It's funny how that is acceptable when it is their show, their webpage, their blog, their twitter, their business, their opinion. When other people do so you are called Spammers and Network Marketing wanna be's and fools. It's always OK until somebody else does it. We seem to recall also, way back when, that in order to participate in NMPro there was to be no recruiting, no spamming, no website or company promoting. Here we are on what? show 12? And two companies were plugged. We love these Generic lessons, (keyword Generic) and give Kudos to all here whom "Do it right!" How many times have we heard that from our uplines? Eric specifically said that we have to comment. That's the challenge here, to partcipate. We get SO MUCH value from all of your comments. Thank you so much, and thank you for doing it right.
  • latachia_2
I totally agree with you. They need to comment as well as the twitter& facebook things . It only takes just a little while to make a comment.
  • Hans - I think you raise a fair point but I guess it isn't for us to judge. Everyone will have different circumstances and those that take time to think and contribute meaningfully will likely have their own rewards via the learning. As Jim Rohn would have said - I wouldn't sign up for that class ;-)
  • beckydesabah
I agree with you all but also think that daily circumstances may force us to type a short post. At the end of the day learning is what matters.
  • Totally agree, everyone's circumstances are different
  • Erik
Consistancy, Work localy , build your country and think and build globaly, And you can do good things with webinars but its not personal so you need more and Im a beliver in live events. Great interview :)
  • Mark_Abrahams
Always one to check, I searched Sherman Unkefer and discovered a sad fact - not relevant to the interview but of massive personal proportions. I won't comment further on the basis that this fact may be mentioned in the interview to come. Regarding the interview content, it is a fine thing that Sherman and Eric are discussing things also on the basis that NWM can, on occasion, not be as it should. Reality must always be a perspective we must consider - to assure that we fulfil our responsibilities. Focusing on core messages, being 'consistency' and the necessity to meet people, to develop relationships and, together, build mutual success, it is clear that we can learn much from Sherman - a real professional. Thanks again Eric.
  • Hi Eric. Mr Unkefer, what an intelligent man. So much knowledge an experience. Thank you for giving us this interview! / Linda, Sweden
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
    Eric,
too bad you did not have mr Unkefer finish his sentence...
Nevertheless, interesting, positive interview and great work from you.
Can not wait until the next time....
    thanks S.
  • Mr. Unkefer is absolutely RIGHT! Technology can not replace meetings. But technology can support meetings! I dont even do a business presentation online. I can connect with people online, expand my names list and find new prospects, I can even tell small bits and parts about my opportunity - but it will allways end up with scheduling a live presentation - wheater thats one on one, two on one or a group presentation held by the company. That's the end goal. No matter where that distributor is ! Why? Because this business is about building relationsships and giving support to your downline for as long as they need it in order for them to stand on their own feet. I can not do that if I dont establish trust first, and I dont know about you guys, but for me to establish trust I need to be face to face, also to be able to pick up the vibes and signals from that person that enables me to see what kind of support that person need to have.

But it's not just the presentation, then comes follow up, working with them etc. - ofcourse if I need to get one piece of information out to everyone at the same time - I use email. But email onley works because I schedule live meetings and bring my people to the live seminars. I do not want to know where my business would be today if it was 100% technology driven, because I do not see how that can stand alone.
  • There's that word again. Consistency.
    Love it!
  • Mr. Sherman Unkefer is amazing!
I LOVE what he said, "Consistency"! And it seem many people seem to have challenge with this.

Question “Can meetings be replaced by technology”?
Personally, no. Technology is only a tools. And I agreed, meeting is still the key.
  • beckydesabah
I believe relationships are developed face to face, looking into the eyes of the person when trust can grow. This is very important in our profession. When you have reached a high level of trust and relationship..you can always be a click away.
Thank you Mr. Unkefer for reminding us the importance of consistency.
By the way... how can I upload a picture? couldn't find the way :-(
    Great week everyone!
  • Double click on the place where you missing photo is in the post. This should open up the Disqus profile. At the top there are 3 menus. Click on My settings then look for the bit that says my Avatar - your avatar is geek speak for your photo ;-)

Thanks for your help Brad. Have a great week!
  • mariasiro
great, and I'm looking forward for next part of this interview! Thank's
  • What a moment to end the first part of the interview...torture....until tomorrow. ;-)

If you have ever been to a concert or a football game you will realise that they are completely different to watching on the internet. The excitement of meetings, and being around like minded people make meetings a must if you want to generate momentum in my humble opinion.
  • I think utilizing both is important these days. People like the idea of being able to use technology and see it as a way forward so you need to be able to deliver something in this area. However there still needs to be times where people can get face to face and build the long term relationships the business is built on.
  • davidgreene
Part One was Awesome! Looking Forward to The Rest for sure! Nothing Beats Face to Face & Nothing Ever Will....Thank You again Eric for this site, it is The BEST Generic Tool I have Experienced in my 20 yrs in our Profession!
  • genegrass
Network Marketing is exactly as it's name...networking. Developing relationships. Face to face. I like the thought, " If you join with w click, you can quit with a click." I believe relationships can, and do, develop over the internet. However, I believe building groups with face-to-face efforts, and creating leaders in geographic areas is important for long term solid and sustainable growth.

There is a place for internet business building, yet too many people do not understand the methods for building relationships over the internet.
  • I really wanted to hear that next part since I was with another company and not successful, though I fell in love with the industry. Sometimes, it takes a couple years to regroup, get educated and find that company that makes you excited again. What I have learned in my research phase that while it is easy to sit behind a computer to prospect, so is it easy for your prospect to hit "delete."
  • technology will open the doors to many more prospects outside the reach of someone new who cannot fly all over the world doing live meetings. However, nothing will replace "live" follow up that builds relationship.
  • wouterdeprez
Especially the technology thing truck me. There are so many people active on the internet, that you start doubting sometimes where it is all about. But now know again, it's about relationships:)! thanks for helping me to remember
  • gabyroa
I keep this ... no body like meetings but every body like great meetings!!!!
    best regards and blessings
