Leaders are definitely made. We all have the ability to become leaders with our traits. Even more introverted people can make it happen as well. Anyone can be a leader if they so choose to follow that path and develop the skill set needed.

I think that in the situations where they appear to be inborn, it is the influences on the person before they were conscious that they were being influenced.

You are right. At one time I would have thought that a leader had to be born, but as I have become a totally different person than when I started out in this business, I am convince now that a leader can be made. It starts with a choice to develop those skills.

In a talk that Paul Zane Pilzer did recently for our Team's Major Function he asked the questions….Nature or Nurture….and when he agreed that the answer is partially yes to both, it really came down to the individual person making a Choice!!

He used the example of Forbes 500 top 10 during a certain period of time…..They all had 2 things in common with the last 6 presidents ….A Degree from Yale & a brother in Jail….True Story

Not everyone has leadershippotential but those that do, don't always realize it. And even if they do, they often have lots of limiting beliefs. So it is up to me to identify those with the potential and help them overcome their limiting beliefs or whatever else is holding them back from reaching their full potential. Reaching full potential is something I strive for for everyone in my team, but not everyones full potential is being a leader. That doesn't matter, as long as they are happy

I believe leaders are made. I do also understand what Sherman Unkefer means about finding people with certain qualities though. I struggle with this question…do you spend time with everybody as people can surprise you? (The downside being you can waste your time). Or do you only spend time with those you can immediately see leadership potential in? (The downside being you will probably overlook people who could have become great).

Over the last 14+ yrs in the profession I've seen countless numbers of people “become” leaders, including myself. As everything in life it is a journey. Let's all improve and enjoy the ride.
