Stories make people feel more and make them recognize themselves so it becomes more "true" for them. Makes the feelings come up.
  • Maarten Leewis
    Excellent story & advice
  • Gustavo Muñoz - Colombia
It is building your story from the beginning
  • Elaine Baril
Focus on "your" story.... and boy do I have one to tell!!!!!!
  • classy70sgirl
I'm going to get the book and also work on my storytelling to make it more compelling for my prospects.
  • Stories told by people who have done this have touched my heart many times. I guess I need to know really why I do this and pay more attention to my experience so that I can tell my stories as well.
  • cherisizzles
I love the line "help people to see a different vision for their lives." That is powerful.
  • seija
    Important message
  • Vonnita2010
Hello Eric!!! so focus on telling the story!! that is a big tip will focus on that.
  • jlt0wn
    The book sounds interesting.
  • Very important topic. Stories attract people, everyone likes to listen to stories.
  • jeanalbert
I've got to get better at storytelling. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is in our business Eric, and thanks for the book recommendation.
  • Robbin
It would be boring without the stories! The story also connects you with your prospect.
  • Inger
I think that the reason why a story is so important is that it tells something about the storyteller... something that wouldn't be seen if it's only facts that are told. People can relate to a situation (or not) but at least they know a little about who they are dealing with.
  • John Boyd
    I love a good story.....
  • Donna Wheaton
    Chris

Thanks for your take on " your story" it is ok if you tell someone else's story, but I need to tell my own as well. Even though it is not that big right now just continue to improve on it. Thank you!
  • I just finished watching Les Brown's "How to Tell Your Story" for the tenth time, so your message is timed perfectly! Thanks for the book recommendation, "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years." I can't wait to read it.
  • Lotta
    Products tells Storys sell.
  • JenniferDu79
I will definitely make a conscious effort to focus more on the story and less on fact telling.
  • Stories are critical to why people want to spend time with you, and buy from you. The story frames their decision on the emotional side of the purchase of your product or service.
My three rules for telling a story. 1. Is it relevant. 2. Is is informative 3. Is it timely.
After that, it is good to listen to their Pain. ( story) !
  • crwood1967
Each person has a story, and every business has a story. We have to tell everyone our story, not our upline or sidelines story.
  • AdvocareJax
I had a huge push and advanced momentum a few months ago. Then momentum dropped off a little bit and I was trying to figure out what changed. I realized I stopped telling my story as much. This is always so important.
  • Everybody has his own story. We just have to think about it and find important chapters to tell the others.
  • Yap! It's our story that makes the business so real.
  • What a great message Eric! Our journey and our story will hopefully help others to build their story and not give up before they have one!
  • denagottlieb
I find that people love it when I tell my story in a presentation. Something they can connect with... Or at least some of them can!
  • chriskemp817
People love a good story. Stories help people feel what your are presenting instead of just seeing.
  • gkamlm
No question, must take the prospect through the highs and lows of your own story, and it must be the true one.
  • Edith Kohler
I'm a bit confused now, because I thought never talk to much, let the tools work for you.
On the other hand ,I love it,because before you know it ,you are telling a story
  • lucbehar
237: I really think that stories are the way to project people into how, what, who we are and that "sells" people a lot more than 1000's of slides
  • Bea Resnick
I think a lot of us have the tendency to think, "Yeah, his story's great, but who would want to listen to my story?" The fact is we never know who might be touched or inspired by our own experiences. I remember Jim Rohn saying that the most important element in your story is the truth.
  • Sherry and Gary Windfield
Eric, stories are powerful as we've discovered. Stories move people and and validate much of what people want to believe in, and yours are the best. Thank you!
  • ronaldvandomburg
storytelling is so powerfull! only, what if you don't have a successstory about your first month, 90 days etc?
  • PaulineP
A humble reminder...words mean things and people would rather hear a good story wrapped up with triumph.
  • pech
If you have a good story to tell, it's easier for you to tell people your message.
  • Agneta Rebo
Yes, stories are a great help when talking to people.
  • bethascoli
I like hearing stories, so it makes sense to me that storytelling is the best way to engage people. And I have noticed that everyone you have had on the show, including you Eric, are very good at telling stories!
  • I am working on my story. I know that people can relate better with stories.
  • nickgarrison
    Facts tell stories sell
  • Story is very important and something that is always evolving as you go.
  • kristibateman
This is appropriate for me right now, I'm working on getting my story together.... LOVE the Cockatoo
  • Daniel W. Cook III
    #27
I'm working on making my story better and more compelling... you can definitely see the difference in the audience when you move from facts to a story. people lean forward and pay more attention during the story.
  • mspaulamc
Facts TELL ... STORIES Sell :)

From Big Al Schreiter - The human mind cannot help but sit up and pay attention when it hears the phrase ... "let me tell you a story" ...

Will get that book Eric, sounds tremendous!
  • Eric, where did you buy that shirt? Love it. Anyways, you are so right. Stories sell, Fact tell. I think stories is what makes our industry so fun. It feels awesome to hear people's stories as well as telling them.
  • CarlosVera
That's so true........compelling stories are more effective than just focusing on tactics. People see themselves in well told stories, and it's easier to feel that snap when you feel identified in a good story than to "be convinced" when someone is trying to sell you something.
  • jean_albert
We all like hearing stories about our parents as kids, funnt memories that add to the families memories & lore. Being able to tell "our story" of how we started in the business helps new distributors see our humanity and their posiiblity of success following in our footsteps.
  • billrogers
    Facts tell and stories sell.
Much more interesting and easier to follow.
  • happyhealthybob
I love telling story's, but how do we get better at telling them? IS it more energy or more serious or more like the 3 min elevator speech?
  • kgadol
Telling a true story is far better than selling any day! Everyone hates to sell and most people don't like sales people.
  • gingerva
How fun!..telling stories. We did it as kids. Thanks for the message and great scenery. It's fun going on your vacations.
  • Even new people in our industry will have stories. You are right that if we can get good a telling our story or stories of others, then people will be fine in NWM. Thanks for this as a reminder to myself that I too need to become a better story teller. "The stories in your mind become the stories in your life".
  • Vange01
Thanks Eric, Good point sometimes I forgot about telling a story because I'm focused on selling or giving facts about the product.
  • I've been investigating on how consciousness and the brain react to marketing, advertisement and outside stimulus. And research is showing that stories are (and have allways been) the best way to transfer message.

    Thanks for the hint Eric.

    NOTES:
Story. One thing that we don't pay enough attention to is how we tell stories. How we got started. How people overcame obstacles. How people faced their fear.
Lot's of people are focused on recruiting and selling and not focused enough on story telling.
    We are story tellers.

A Million Miles in A Thousand Years.

How we focus on stories more than we focus on slills or on tactics
What am I doing everyday to tell better stories.
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
mmm... indeed need improvement on that,
we also have stories, but the Q. is; do we share the -right- stories enough...
  • veronikakari
People in Europe are rather sceptic about stories and do not believe in it and I would even say, do not want to hear it too much.
  • emmettb
I am really working on my story, refining it.
  • rosslopez
If you don't have an interesting and compelling story you can start today making out an interesting one. Last Sunday I learned from the good stories I heard, I met a bodyguard who thought me the meaning of confidence and honesty, a person who works rescuing lost people from the mountains and volcanoes
that made me feel the sense of adventure.
Since I joined to the MLM business I think I started editing my life =o) I like doing new things everyday and meeting a lot of new people. I will work on having a good story I can tell and sounds interesting to the people and to my grandchild :P

    Love this topic Eric =o)
    Thanks and hugs from Mexico
    Rossana :D
  • Jilliangene
It is all in the story. Tell someone else's story until you have your own, becasue fact tells and stories sell.
  • lynn hall
It is important to tell your story and keep telling it. Sometimes people relate to your story. And be honest as well.
  • Mark from Germany
.. just watched it again .. apart from the warm rain ;) !!! , the message of "story" was - and is - a strong hint and reminder thanks ..
  • Mark from Germany
well guys and girls .. the story was lovely. What got my attention even more heavily was the visual story this time - the breathtaking background with the palmtrees .. and .. wow, just listening to the rain coming down .. I could almost feel the sensation of a warm summer thundershower through my laptop screen .. - reminded me of my childhood in South Africa .. and Sir Cockatoo walking about on the railings just topped the headline for today .. thanks for sharing the lifestyle Eric. See you in Germany soon ..
  • karivankleef
I think telling stories is very important it opens up the dialogue to learn more about your prospect and what their story is.
  • krisic
I agree, story telling is very important. And I'm so excited that my story is getting better all the time!
  • m_cortez74
Story sell...... and people buy.... :)
  • It depends on who is listening and how many times they have heard the story. I agree that we need to pay attention to the importance of telling stories well and in measured amounts. It is equally important to listen to the story of your prospect in order to understand their pain/ or emotion. Understanding their pain will allow you to tell the right story and allow them to bond with you.
  • Pepeneto
Ok...great tip, I think once I domain the way I explain my compensation plan, and the way my product is good for people, It is time to improve the way a count the stories that really will move their hearts in order to say "I want to do this either", I think this great idea will help me to make a great boom in my carreer. Thank you Eric!!
  • smreed
Stories move person where it counts, in their heart.
  • Thank you Eric for reminding me this wonderful secret, telling our story, we wish for you, we have a better a way, thank you once again,
  • I think the old saying is something along the lines of "Facts tell, stories sell ...". Facts can tend to bore the death out of your prospect, but stories - if told well - will engage them and capture their attention.

    Best to you,
    Scott
  • gjt
telling your story is what it is all about
  • keith murfet
Thanks Eric. You reminded me of one of the greatest story tellers of all time - Og Mandino. What amazing and inspiring stories he told!
  • susanclark
#237 - Focus on Story - What a different perspective. I know that so many times I am telling other people's stories when I talk about my business. Thanks, Eric, on making me zero in on my story and giving the best story I can. What a brilliant thought!
  • margarethockaday
    Always tell your story.
  • quincy
Ive heard it said, "stories sell and facts tell." Get better at telling better stories.
  • ulla99
You are right as ususal Eric and your travelling inspire me very much
  • I was actually looking at that book. Now I'll have to get it.
I really have to start to become a story teller, because, you're right, we are usually attracted to "stories".
    Thanks Eric.
  • Jeroen Lingier
    Hi Eric,

    Nice pet;-)
QOTD:Thanks for the hint. I aswell believe that good story- tellers will get more attention, because on the inside, we all remain a child who want to hear a nice story every now and than.
from Belgium, this is Jeroen Lingier
  • Erc, you're right. Stories incite emotion in people and we know that most people make decisions on emotion and reason with logic.
  • hanneretvik
I like telling stories and reading good books, so thank for today's advices.
  • Steve_Nelson
Other people's stories are what made me want to get started and fueled the belief that I could do this. Stories are more important than the presentation when done well
  • peterragg
Eric is right, give people your testinomial / story when you speak with them, tell it with passion.

    regards
    Peter Ragg
  • Irina
    Thanks for the book!
  • keithraines
stories helppepole relate and believe that it is possible for them to succeed.
  • ybimbalanced
That is great advice. I don't focus enough on my story as I've never considered myself a great story teller. I'm going to get that book. Thanks!
  • Storys makes people relate and are sooo important. And I absolutely have to get better at telling stories. It is also important to have a lot of other peoples stories, to tell. And as you grew your business, you will get better and more stories to tell.....I will read that book do.....
  • gloriavintila
The words: "editing my life" make me pause to reflect. And I realize that the power of making what we want of our lives lies within our hands. After editing our life and making it the way we want it to be, so we can be proud of it, then it will be much easier to tell the story.
  • Ria Leermakers
Need to make more of my story
  • annenz
Compelling stories add the colour to the conversation/presentation. Thank you.
  • germanjaramillo
I´m Agree. When we tell the history, the people get more interesting in our profession. They think... "really...i can do this too.."

So, let´s put love to our history, passion and good energy. In this order, i think our profession and the business of anyone will grow better.

    Have a good day,

    -GJ
  • alltheverybest
    Good story!
  • germarl
    Facts tell -story's sell !!
  • orlyalbo
To tell the true... some time i thin and imagine how i tell my story. amzing you mention the story today!
  • jacob stiner
Hey Eric Thanks for being reminds us of the importance of our network marketing story
  • lopazelasane
Story telling is a skills I needed to work on more thanks Eric...
  • Another great point Eric. Jack Welch talks about storytelling in his excellent book Winning. As a CEO and change leader (which is fundamentally what we become as MLMPros) we need to be able to get a large number of people to do a few things everyday. In mainstream business it's no different - whether it's treating the customer right, prospecting, making sales or delivering consisntent quality products and services.

The speaker at yesterday's event had story after story after story which made the presentation fly by and helped everyone to both remember and pass along the information that he wanted to get across.

Without stories we all find it difficult to succinctly and consistently repeat the key messages that we'd like to get across and the phony elevator pitch of pushing your services on unwilling recipients has pretty much had it's day. Incidentally @MichaelPort has a great alternative to this in his fabulous book: "Book Yourself Solid" - I'd highy recommend that (and no I am not an affiliate ;-))

Jim Rohn makes a great point in his teachings about having a great set of start up stories and I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, I think it may be advantageous to hold back on starting in order to get well-prepared so that you can make a big impact in your first 90 days and avoid losing potential business partners through a too amateurish pitch (I know this is heresy to the action oriented - "Just Do It" people but if we are pitching to busy, successful, intelligent people that can afford to buy our products long term and who might also stay in the business we ought to give them the respect of doing it right - just like you would with a big client proposal).

Part of my story is already being built. About how I found this site and developed the knowledge, skills and attitude for success by following a daily discipline to sign in and comment on your videos.

By the way - the resort looks fantastic - shame about the weather (but of course you always take the weather with YOU!).

    Looking forward to the 15th.

    @Veterus
  • For me it took som time to get my business going. I had to be patient and just kept on working. Now I have a rapid growing business; it has been increasing every month since june last year, even doubling some months. When new people are struggling their first months, I tell my story and it gives them confidence to keep on doing the basic everyday and be patience.
  • beckydesabah
That's another skill to develop, to become a better "story" teller.
  • Marion
Thank You, I need to work on telling better stories!
  • dterrell
I will focus more on story telling than selling. Thanks Eric!
  • tyroneholmes
I will change my focus to telling stories.
  • Tarashon Broomes
I agree you should have a good story, a story that people can relate to and open their vision
  • socorro
thank you Eric, storiy teller, very good,
  • latachia_2
Learn how to tell compelling stories& to use testimonials& product testimonials.I think that stories & testimonials are very important.
That's a beautiful place in Australia you are at& the bird is pretty too!
  • DianaValdez
Focus more on story than on skills... This is a new one to me.
  • Steve Weaver
You've taught us from the 'get go' - that Facts Tell & Stories Sell.
The best sales trainers and masters of influence today say the same thing.
  • Highly paid "story tellers" I like that description of a professional network marketer. Story telling is the best way to engage a person to listen and engage. As someone else said, craft the story to the person to whom you are presenting. Engage them in the story and you will have a captive audience.
  • Ellis3
Just now learning how/when to use my stories: the company's story when you start, your story when you have a testimonial about the product, your upline's success in the business story and your team's success in the business story. Thanks for the reminder E!
  • Foord Yates
    Stories engage the audience.
    Engagement drives emotion.
Emotion causes people to take action.
When people take action - things change.
CHANGE can include buying something, selling something, or changing your mind on what your boundaries and limitations are.

Combine a few of those things, and BIG things can happen.
    BUY into Network Marketing.
CHANGE your mind about your income stream
CHANGE your mind about rejection, boundaries, beliefs, and self-worth.
CHANGE the way you earn your income.
CHANGE your mind regarding if you are a leader, follower, learner, or evangelist.

    Foord Yates.
  • latachia_2
    Well said.It's very true.
  • Steve Weaver
    Good stuff. Thanks
  • tambry
Never thought of it that we do have different kinds of stories to tell. We need to keep them in our mind and tell the story that best fits the situation when talking to prospects and downline.
  • Once upon a time, on a tropical island somewhere in paradise, this guy and this white bird were...... no, just kidding :)

What is it with stories? Kids LOVE stories. I can just see my kids' eyes light up as their mind opens up to infinite possibilities wrapped around the unfolding of a story. I'm sure they can see themselves as one of the characters.

We are all just big kids so I suppose a story allows us to dream again, and to connect with the character. The power in that is enormous.
  • Hi Tony - I think the reason we like stories is because they are fundamental to the human race. Before writing and multi-media the only way that essential knowledge (like how to survive) could be passed down the generations was through story-telling. If you ever watch people like Ray Mears (the survival expert) when he visits tribes in the jungle or aboriginals in Australia who have been isolated from the modern world they do exactly that - tell stories to pass on knowledge and learning by experience.

With the internet we are blessed with being able to find and share stories all around the word at the push of a button - Imangine where we'll be in 50 years time!
  • Wow! You looked really relaxed!! I like this idea about making my story more interesting....thank you!
  • Gakungu
Good insight you shared, Eric. And I am looking forward to reading that book.
  • Dave S
I'd like to add that it should be a short story and not a novel. I would like to hear how best to share our stories without sounding like a sales pitch. Keep the books coming.
  • coltsco
I totally agree that stories sell. We need to constantly review our stories to see if they resonate with the listeners
  • The value of stories is so important and separates the leaders from the followers in anything that people do.
True leaders and professionals are great story tellers. It is the best and only way to transfer belief... And that's what Network Marketing is all about.
    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
    -ed
  • Lorraine
I have been hearing that lately from everyone that I need to develop my story telling. Today you mention it again. I am getting it. LOL
  • rmonte
Stories reach our humanity and touch our soul. We relate to them and they draw us in. The best communicators are story tellers. Thanks Eric.

    Rick M
  • rhhooker
Thanks, I think alot of people think that it has to be about their story, but you never know what will happen if you share someone else's story and how it may impact someone.
  • Eric, No doubt that stories of success are one of the best tools we have. Sharing mine or someones from my group at the right time can really enhance the presentation. Look forward to reading the book.
  • I totally agree Mike! When they are used right, they help transfer belief!
  • rasdaniels
A friend once told me that facts tell but stories sell.
  • jennyc
Stories from the team is what they will pay attention to.
  • racingworm
You never know what your story can initiate in another person or how they can relate to it. Stories/testemonies are one of the most powerful tools of our business.
  • You are right.
Stories connect experiences and can lead vision.
My story, the company's story, sideline story, upline story, customer story.
Feel...felt.... found... is a basic way to connect into a story (as long as it isn't overused/"formula- driven". Relate to the feeling, share that I felt a smilar way (tell a story), what I found was (action/vision). Follow up with another question to get to know the person better. Stories can sometimes reveal in better ways than direct infiormaton seeking. Stories that are third-party based are even more powerful. We all love stories.
How do we get better at storytelling? I'll get the book yo mentioned.
  • I love that Steve! Feel, Felt, Found. Thanks for sharing that with us all!
  • Story´s are so important... Never forget that people join the business because of you, your story´s. Always be honest, and truly care about others people story too , and you are half way up. Best regards from your biggest fan.
  • I totally agree. Honesty and authenticity are key to any relationship.
  • Kathy
    Story sells.
  • timandtricia
There's no question that stories sell. All the most successful network marketing professionals seem to have powerful stories to tell and have become masters at telling them.
  • enrique62
Thank You for the book and the scenery.
  • Stories are so powerful!

This is the reason why People Magazine is the #1 sold magazine worldwide... people love to know about other people's stories or lives.
  • turjcxg
Eric, I will read the book! Thank you for pointing out something I had never thought about - telling stories.
  • Damijan81
Thanks for the tip Eric, i will buy the book and have a read!
  • highimpact0406
Thanks Eric, I do plan on getting that book and really believe in the story telling concept. People love to hear stories and this would be no different. Other peoples stories are what helped me make the decision to get into network marketing. Would love to visit that hotel someday! Looks incredible.
  • kamalharris
That is an absolute fact. All of the seminars i've gone to; All of the conventions I've attended where they featured great speakers; and several of the books i've read had people who were excellent storytellers. I have go to improve in that area tremendously.
  • barryburgin77
Being a "newbie" in network marketing, I am looking forward to having a few stories of my own.
  • travelprohawaii
OH Ok! I forgot stories sell I need to make mine! Thanks!
  • pollyhulseman
Sounds like a great book and one I need to improve my skills.
  • caronwashington
Stories sell and facts tell. People always relate to a story rather than facts. If we can use the tools to expose people to the information but in addition tell people why you got started and what the business has done for us it will be powerful. Our candidates will feel more compelled because if we can do it they will feel empowered as well
  • That's a good point. People love stories, and definitely most of the top networkers that I met are excellent story tellers. This is another skill we have to master.
  • The truth is that, when I don't think about doing business and the subject comes up, naturally, in the course of a conversation, I am relaxed and answer some questions, ask some. Both sides get enough information to know if we want more without actually pushing it. Relationships take time and require swapping stories.
  • tomdoiron
The highest paid distributor in my primary company is the best story teller I know. Even after a million times, it is still powerful.
  • carolmcwilliams
There is an art to storytelling, but the most important ingredient is when our message comes from the heart, as this will enable our message to tug on the heartstrings of those listening. I had the pleasure of taking a public speaking 2 hour training this past weekend with Les Brown. He is a true master storyteller and I came away invigorated to improve my story. He has a cd out called Tell your Story that I am looking forward to listening to and gleaning golden nuggets.
  • SJ Doug
Interesting Eric, I was just listening to a guy talking about this subject last night about how important our stories were for us.
He also emphsied that your story needs to be truthful and honest and some parts of our story may be better served if told at a later time in our journey.
  • Love the advice......focus more on great stories not just the skills........thank you
  • My son wants a story every night and it is tough. Practice makes perfect.
  • Shovers
I plan to get the book ASAP. I have told stories in my meet up per my mentor's recommendation and I have seen the affectit had. I also have realized my story telling could be alot better! I see this book as a must read!

"THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY STORY" Loui Carillo
  • karenandian
This is so true. Telling your own story will make it all the more real to people as it is coming from the heart and not just made up.
  • MattinJaxfl
Definitely agree on story telling. Story sell and are much easier to remember than facts and statements.
  • marvalouslife1
personal story and story telling, are one of the cores of the business.
be a better stry teller and you become a better networkmarketer.

    Ron Ackerman - Israel
  • Luis (Pelon)
in order to have a story we need more experience in our organization and on the use of our product.
  • Awesome Eric... No doubt, it's all about our story and creating our story!!
  • We all need to become masters of telling our own story. When we do this we now have the ability to share with anyone. Everyone of us has our own unique story and as the saying goes, facts tell and stories sell.
  • Bjorgli
Thanks for sharing some of your lovely moments in Australia with us. And being a good storyteller is important. I'll read the book and practice.
  • There is something plain wrong that my friend from Melbourne is watching you in the Hayman Islands as she is sitting in my Edina Minnesota living room as the snow is swirling around! Oh well we mixed up the seasons! Eric..it is a stone cold fact that story-telling separates the winners from the mediocre..so we are ordering the book...and getting better...and holding the vision of making it back to Hayman and Hamilton
    Islands..SOON!
  • onemartymac
Stories are important because they build history and they tug at our emotions! Great Video in the rain
  • Can't wait to read the book. Thanks Eric (and Marina)!
  • Tina Perdue
I hardly ever tell my story..it is so new and I have nothing much to say. I will have to figure out how to give it a punch or use someone else's story for now.
  • rossdecker
Elizabeth is right. You can use the story of others. But even if today is your first day, you can still tell your story of WHY. WHY you decided to do it. And that will ring true with people because so many are looking for something, something that you found. It's even more relate-able than how much your sponsor made last month.
  • Hi Tina....one piece of advice I'd like to offer is to use others stories if you don't have yours yet....easier to do that to keep going!
  • BetterCoffee.dk
Stories make things come alive and be real in our minds.
It's the way we have delivered knowledge thru all generations.

I got the book as audio book thru iTunes Store.
Read by the author, it's really great and inspiring.
Just like the stories we hear in the interviews you make here.
Makes one believe that it's possible to make it and to hang in there.
  • Hans
Great story!!! Now let's go tell this story to the rest of the world....I love telling my stories and listening to other people's stories as well...especially since, right now, it's bedtime over here on the Med....
  • HoracioMejia
This is a business that is based, among few other things, on emotions. Well told stories create emotions. Why am I in the business? Why this product, this company? I agree than more than skills, story telling needs to be mastered. I am getting the book. Thanks.
  • If you can get a cockatiel to listen to and appreciate your story, (or those with the attention span of one), you are on the right track!

Story telling was again timely great advice! I watched it yesterday... When I used the story telling angle of answering questions last night, it was wonderful! It worked so well that they thanked me for sharing... It was great! This aspect helped me make a greater friend! Thanks! It may have changed my life!

There is a story in the Bible about Jesus healing a blind man and the Pharisees labeling Jesus as a sinner. The blind man responded "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!" You could say whatever you wanted to about Jesus; call him anything you wanted, but the fact remains the same and the story told by the blind man became a powerful message. You can say whatever you want about my network marketing business, but my story can not be challenged. My story, my testimony, is just that ... mine. And when I share it, you can either choose to believe it or dismiss it, but if I'm living my story out; if I am proving its true, it's very hard to reject it.
  • jpmendoza
I need to get better at telling my story & stop worring about facts.
  • story telling it is...
  • Hearing someone's story was the reason I even looked at network marketing.
  • My story gets more interesting with each experience I have.
  • Thanks again, Eric....telling a story, that will help me take the stress off of always thinking/trying to recruite/sell. Another tool to add to move me toward success !

THANK YOU! I just read "Aspire" by Kevin Hall a master story teller on the power of words..... Amazing.
  • I love the story that shirt tells. Great advice. Write the story of your next 90 days and make it happen.
  • The biggest compliment I can receive is when, after a presentation, my prospect says "I SEE what you mean".

Thanks for the heads up on the book!
  • one of my goals for 2010 was to bring all the elements of my own personal "story" into focus, and then to find a way to tell that as an interesting story, all for the purpose of making a positive difference in the in the live's of others
  • dstfa96
I agree with you 100% Eric when you talked about people being too focused on recruiting and selling and not enough on story telling. I loved when you said "we are very well paid storytellers" that was sooooo awesome!!!! The more we tell our story the more we will get paid!!!! ;-)

Great message Eric. Our story needs to be short and sweet. I've been to a few presentations where a person seems to drag out their story and people then loose interest. Keep it short but make it compelling.

Eric! This was really a great reminder of how the story can force people to take a closer look.

TO THE NMPRO COMMUNITY: Ask yourself, what story grabbed your attention and moved you to action when your 1st took a look at Network Marketing? You'll see for sure, that Stories are the key.
  • mariasiro
Good advice, I will work more on that one for sure!! Thank's again Eric

Geat advice and I will read the book. Beautiful surrundings!

Thank Eric, luckily I have a great story, so enjoy sharing it with ohters
  • Thanks Eric, Stories are indeed important. People are hearing about the opportunities thru people.
  • I Agree with you!

If your business is just about numbers and product and comp plan, then your business is not alive. You need the emotion and the human factor to make it real for most people!

Thanks Eric! Great View by the way!
  • there is no question that this busienss is all about telling the story but the challenge is for a new person to tell the story before he has created his own. Of course the solution is to borrow other peoples story but none the less its a challenge.

  • Kudos to you Eric for managing to come up with daily topics that are pertinent to NM success. Regarding stories, “Stories touch people’s hearts.”

  • Funny how we think we don't have a good story to tell. I never realized that my story is interesting to someone I tell it to, because they have never heard it yet.
  • martinvf
The story I tell tomorrow is about the life I have today.
So, I'd better make a good life today to have a better story to tell tomorrow.
With that story a lot of people will become enrolled, some other may not become enrolled, but the more attractive the story, the more people it will enrolled.
Thanks for sharing your story, Eric.

Good stuff, we sometimes forget this when teaching, to get your prospect talking about themselves, not you doing all the talking because so many people want to throw up on people. But I totally agree the Stories are powerful.. Thanks again Eric
  • When looking at someone's content on the internet, I always read their story first. This is because I seek to get to know them before I see what they have to say. Knowing this I struggled to tell my own story. I faced the fear and did it anyway.

Storytelling is a our No. 1 third party tool ... People might get bored with technical details such as product ingredients, comp plan numbers or the company financial report, but they will never get bored with a good story.

Besides having my own stories to illustrate different topics of the business, I also love to collect stories from other people in the team and share them, both with prospects and team members.

So, lets take this lesson to practice. Why don't we share some stories? Ready?

Here is one of my favorite business stories. I use it anytime someone is trying to "sell" me his or her reasons not to do the business. I listen to them and then I'll explain ... "All I am hearing is you don't have reasons strong enough to do the business" ... They will reply, "Oh yes, yes, I do, believe me, but I can't do it because of this or because of that" ... Then I'll say, ""Ok. I understand what you are saying. Now, let me tell you about my friend Freddy."

Freddy is a young man from a very poor family who lives in Buenaventura, a city port in the Colombian Pacific coast.
Freddy got into our business a while ago and soon after he sponsored a friend of him in a small village names Las Casitas. This little town is located in a very remote place inside the Colombian jungle. In order to get there from Buenaventura, you will need to take a boat ride for 12 hours through a river.
As the courier service our company uses in Colombia doesn't have access to Las Casitas, Freddy made the commitment to take the products himself.
Since he works all week, he takes weekend to help his friend make progress in the business. He leaves Buenaventura 5 AM on Saturday and arrives to Las Casitas at 5 PM. He spend the night there, doing presentations and training his small team there, of 5 or 6 people. He then leaves on Sunday morning to get home Sunday night.
Freddy already made it to Supervisor (which is the very first rank for our company). His first check was almost double of what he normally makes in his work. His second check was more than 4 times his salary.
When I first meet Freddy in one of our company's event, I was fascinated with his story. After he finished, I have tears in my eyes. I asked him, "Why are you doing it?". He said because he wants a different future for his baby daughter, with opportunity to a better education"

Then, I go back to my prospect and ask him/her ... "So, John, what do you think? Can you overcome your obstacles and do the business?

True story folks. Feel free to use it anytime you see the need for it.

Now, does anyone want to share some of their stories?
  • eabus
    Cool posting amigo.
  • What a powerful story... I still remember you telling us your story Jose at one of the Events of our company that we attended about a year and half ago... BTW I found some of pics from your homeland. I'll see if we can share them with you in SF if you're there.
  • Jose Lopez
Thanks so much! Yes, I will be in SF! Looking forward to see you ... and the pictures!
  • clairecameron
I am very analytical, factual, understand numbers so I like all that stuff. I have to remember that most others don't relate in that way.... in fact what happens with me is numbers tell me stories, so I suppose it is the same just coming at me differently than most people.
  • What I love is we can also start a new story any time we like, a new product story a new business story... Facts tell - stories sell!
  • dougharkins
Thanks for another tool (book). Facts tell, stories sell.
  • Daniel Glez.Peña
Hola Eric, I think if you listen to your prospect, then you can tell your story, we are not selling the com plan.
We show them an oportunity. I like... We need to tell our story...
    Saludos.

  • I also find it fascinating how stories impact people. I know its one my of favorite parts of trainings. Here is a great affirmation that may be helpful to someone. "I am a master story teller. Like an artist, with my words and emotions, I paint images in my listener's mind."

    Thank you Eric!
  • TAbrams
Thanks for the book recommendation Eric. I believe two of the most essentials skills to master in our profession are to become a Great Promoter and a Great Story Teller. When we tell stories this allows others to relate their own life scenarios and helps others to overcome some of their own internal hurtles.

I believe when we tell stories we lay down a verbal path that allows new people in the business to relate and to know that they are not alone with what they are feeling or experiencing. Stories of overcoming obstacles and fears are great as they provide reinforcement for new people that anything can be overcome and the positive reinforcement that stories provide is incredible.

Stories also help new people connect. When a professional in our business tells a story - often the story helps new people bring their doubts, or issues to the surface and by the end of the story many times a solution has been provided. (I know how you feel, I felt the same, however I did XXX - found the solution).

Stories allow people to live their dreams, provide hope and great encouragement.
  • Mark_AbrahamsUK
I have a unique story to tell (don't we all !).

And, as an example analogy, just look how 24hr news - and newscasters - brighten up, even get excited when there is a breaking story.

Ours is a breaking news story and we all have our unique state - yet we also have the greatest business on this planet, the greatest leadership, the greatest resources and products – our story, as we build and build, is breaking news.

These facts enable us to reprogramme and duplicate, consistently and over sufficient time so ensuring our success. All we have to do is go tell our story and to introduce others to their own unique story - perhaps stories they, as individuals don't even know they have.

So, included in our responsibilities is that we must coach, train and teach prospects to be, do and have what is in their dreams, working hard towards the lifestyle they seek. As we do this we will grow, learn and enjoy the journey. It isn’t always comfortable doing this but it is and must be felt as fun. Our success will come from hard work, very hard work. The joy of all this is that, as we build our success then our story develops, becoming our latest breaking news story.

Even in the most beautiful and tranquil places, there can always be a storm brewing – as in the Hayman Islands (Cyclone 'Boulder'). Our story will always include how we deal with the storms in our lives, always working to help others even though we, ourselves, used to feel that we needed help. Together, working as one group with common objectives, tools and outlook, we can create the greatest of stories. Thanks again Eric.
  • denisekay

Finished this book about two weeks ago and it became one of my very favorites. Thanks, Eric.
  • Thanks Eric. Super as always.
  • I absolutely LOVE hearing other people's stories and finally, in the last several months have started telling some of my more deeper, heartfelt stories of the true reasons why I decided to pursue this profession.

People relate to stories. That is where they feel they can connect because that is where the emotion is.
  • bartar20
Thanks for the link to the book Eric, life is that isn't it, its all about the story and the journey!!!
  • When we try to "recruit" the wall will go up. If you tell a story they will listen with more of an open mind. Now how do we tell the Right story.
  • I'm always reminding myself "Fact tell and stories sell" Otherwise the engineer/computer programmer in me takes over!
  • gillym1
We all like a good tale now and then! Thanks Eric - it reminded me of why I got into this business in the firstplace!
  • Stories are a tremendous way to share your vision and transfer your belief to your prospects. Whenever I am reading a book, the most interesting and captivating parts are when the author gives specific 'case studies'. I enjoy hearing about what people have gone through, what they've done, how they've done it, why they've done it, and how everything turned out. It makes so much sense to bring this into our business. I'd never thought of it that way before.

It's important to have not only your story, but stories of others as well. The more stories you can share, the more likely one of the stories will impact your prospect. Give them something to identify with. Give them the hope that if someone they can relate to is successful in your business, that they can do the same. When you tell us to go tell the world, you are imploring us to tell our story to the world.

    Thanks!
  • patrickmcfeely
Thanks Eric we all like telling stories, all I have to do now is put the pages in the right order.
Thank you for your time Eric
  • eabus
    Wow Eric.
If NM will offer me that lifestyle... I am a pro
If storytelling will make me a pro... I am a storyteller.
If getting that book helps me storytell... book is in the shopping cart.
  • I'm going to check out that book. Are there any other good books to develop your skills to tell stories?
  • Facts tell and stories sell. Here's one of Jim Rohn's stories that he used when he was building his business, "I’m working full-time on my job, and part-time on my fortune. But it won’t be long until I’m working full-time on my fortune. Can you imagine what that will be like?"
  • Maxwellhealth
A big part of skill building is learning how to communicate with your prospect....and let's face it Stories touch people with great impact...facts and strategy are but the details...
  • Ton Oosterwijk
Stories are paramount to help a candidate understand that one hasn't to be 'mirrored' to the person that one person that introduces product or the opportunity.

For that same reason I find events, in the broadest meaning of the word (home-meeting, web casts public etc) of importance.
The stories candidates hear/witness on an event (as third party tool) will help broaden their mind, feel safer and hopefully allows them to become more inquisitive and help them step by step by step out of their comfort zone.

Thanks Eric for another reminder. We get so absorbed in the doing and we forget the telling...I know; Stories Sell, Facts bore's. In my way to the book store.
  • People love stories. I advise new distributors to tell their story, as well as those of the leaders. The stories are extremely important in our industry.
  • ritafulton
I like the title of "Story Teller", never been very good at it until I got into NWM business and have experienced so many "stories" to share..almost seemed automatic ..AND Then..got caught up in "recruiting numbers" and lost the "story teller" aspect. Thanks for the reminder!!
  • Paco_Carreno
I love this topic... I definitely want to work on this... In Spain there's not such a powerful culture of telling Story... I strongly believe in this, I've noticed the power of listening to stories within myself. Thank you
  • Nancy Eldred
I'm really glad you brought this topic up on STORY TELLING.
I believe it's the #1 priority in this business. It's the key that opens the door.
I'm getting that book you suggested as well

    Stay happy and healthy ...
  • Thanks for the new title -- "Story teller" - In all seriousness -the stories make the heartfelt connections and open the possibilities for our prospects.
  • Bernadette
Stories are what grow our business! Thanks Eric, will definately get the book!
  • garyparmenter
A good story captures ones attention. People relate to stories and apply them to their own experiences. Not just a lot of cold hard facts. Which can lose ones attention in a hurry.
  • Telling the story to fit the 'listening' is a skill mastered by few and unrecognized by most. Some people are afraid of not telling the 'truth.' If you have ever read multiple eye witness accounts of accidents you wonder how it's possible they all saw the same accident. Perhaps our stories need to less about the accident and more about the taste of the steak.
  • Hi Eric, Got carried away with the pools.

Not much to say but a lot to think about and this could just be the missing key to the puzzle! Will let you know when I've read the book. Sounds much easier than many of the other activities.
  • raybeattie
I agree Eric. Stories are also a main part of my "day job". The stories make it "come to life" for the customer/prospect.
  • Pete
I'm surprise on how my story continues to be edited and improved. It never is a finished product.
  • jerryscribner
    The book is on order
  • Episode 28 of Eric Worre's 100 Episode throw Down Challenge:

I have become more aware lately , thanks to conversations with a mentor of mine, that stories are essential to our success, but the money in stories lie in how we tie the story into what we are talking about.. Stories do sell. It 's also what makes someone you are prospecting interested in joining your company. Great scenery again.. It's the why and the sizzle..
  • Thanks for the book suggestion. I'll have that book for my ride to SF this weekend.. I ALWAYS go to the bookstore to buy my books and ask a clerk who seems sharp to show me where they are. #1 it gets me asking questions and introducing myself to the clerk. Most times i will get contact info from that person and thus a new prospect.
  • Carlos Perez
Focus on telling stories is what we most be doing, instead of selling
  • feltricks
That's part of the promotion we must do, promote what we do, and what we have to show.
We must develop that skill, we must learn to talk, to have a very powerful testimonial. A lot of people is afraid to talk, to tell their stories, but stories sells.
So, in order to become a NMPRO we must be willing to face that fear and show the world what we have.
    Thanks.
  • it's said that facts tell, stories sell
  • frankdiaz
yes....stories are profound they are the connection that often times have folks saying....wow...i can do that!!!
  • shawncyr
This was a very useful video today. I have been a poor story teller. Now I have something to work on and I hope to see a great result.
  • I feel comfortable telling 'the story'. I also like it best when people share stories with me instead of the hard sell. In fact, the hard sell turns me off.
  • Thank you for the title of the book Eric.
I'm going to add this one to my NM Library
  • The art of story telling in all forms of marketing is often underated when in fact it is so critical to success.
  • Art D lasvegas
Eric, I love the shirt! Whats the story behind it? This is a great tip to train myself and to pass along to my people. Thanks Eric...looking good.
  • Dee_Canada
Ahhhhh....I love to do the story part....now I believe that I need to get the LISTENING part!!
  • julie67
The more people can relate to your story, the easier it will be to help them get in the business. Makes a lot of sense.
  • bryantkeefe
WOW on the scenery. Yes, stories are vital. Look at the success of the Ken Blanchard book line or the Chicken Soup Series. Those are "stories" with a purpose. I just heard a great one at my companies convention. It started with " So I called all my beer drinking buddies over and shared the product with them" and now....Great story for a group we don't associate with Network Marketing but they have built a big team off that meeting of "beer drinking buddies".
  • carolbarrett
Thanks Eric. I going to order the book right now!
  • Agreed! Story is important as that can open up people mind for them to look at network marketing too. I listen to it daily. ;-)
  • hpena
I once was told that I tell more stories than The Bible, I didn't know it was a compliment back then. I'm eager to read that book.

Eric, for your next show I would like you to use your super powers to call up an Eagle, Tiger and 2 Ferrets (The Beast Master movie reference). :-)

  • Jessi
It's not so much the story as it is how well you tell it.

The ultimate goal in our story-telling should be to get the same mesmerized reaction from an adult as you do when you either read or tell a story to a child.
  • jeffreyhall
The essence is the story and the story is what captures the individual andallows them to see the potential.

Thank you Eric! I have to get better at telling stories, it is so easy to get caught up in the recruiting mode and I really need to get better at creating a compelling story. Thank you for the reminder!!

I learned early in the game that "Facts tell. Stories sell"
  • mbryant
Cool backdrop. And even better point. We all have a story and it needs to be told. With heart and passion!
  • Cee_G
Thank you for this reminder Eric. You are right. We get very caught up in the logistics of working the business and forget our stories. Another great episode!
  • anthonyviglietta
Poor Eric. He's getting rained on! LOL! I'm bracing for a blizzard on the east coast. This is why network marketing is awesome. Eric put in years of hard work, and look where he's at now!
  • randyhendrickson
I haven't put into words, but I have a great story to tell when I reach the level of success story telling is good for business.
  • soxfan071
Yeah, our team is in the process of developing some great stories of our own. For now we tell stories of others success. They will get better and more useful when we have local success.
  • ngocttk
I have heard many stories about over coming obstacles to gain success and now I understand that stories kept on my mind longer than any facts. They effects significantly on my thoughts and decisions. But sometimes I didn’t realize and tell them to other. Thanks Eric for remind us focusing on this!
  • tomlacey
Interesting topic. As I think about the topic it makes perfect sense that the story helps the person connect and help see themselves in the process. Wa all live very different but probably similar lives. The story will likely show the person a similarity in their life and show them that they can have success as well. The stroy should motivate and inspire.
  • yuvalcohen
    Thanks Eric
    Today's lesson is important Biotrtz
    It connects me
    Who is telling the story?
  • Here as promised.
  • Facts tell, stories sell ! But the problem with stories is, what if you didnt achive top rank yet? How do you make a compelling story?
  • Use other people's stories is what I would encourage you to do.

Example: Talk about how you met this amazing person from ____ and they went from working 40-60 hours a week to a stay at home mom, etc working this business. Hope that helps.
  • Stories are so important!

Sometimes I think that people are reluctant to tell their story because they think that it is personal to them. Just to illustrate the opposite, we had a meeting that focussed on Goals and Dreams last Friday. It was outstanding to listen to people's dreams and see that they had so much hope even though they may have had some battles up to now.

Anyway, my point is that people really do want to hear your story. It's inspiring to others and you don't know who will really connect with YOUR story.....but someone will and it could change both your lives!

Yes great people of our industry like the Yeagers, Big Al, Mark Hughes, Jim Rohn, Randy Gage and every great leader in our industry have said this. It`s not abouth selling products it`s abouth selling in the storys :)
  • Thanks for sharing the book title with us Eric. The title sounds familiar? Has it been mentioned on a previous show? I just did a quick amazon look-up of this book. And it sounds like a funny read. There are a few pages available on amazon if anyone wants to have a pre-read ;)

Thank you David for sharing that.

Do not focus on product selling but on story telling.

Hey, we all love a good story....but then we all love a good story teller.
What Eric is saying just seems to fit with how we are built.
Lesson of the day....learn from our own story teller, Eric !
After all the last 5/6 vids have told a great story of their own, titled....'Eric's having a ball'.

So true about Eric videos. A good story tell always helps.

    I will buy the book.
    And I will telling stories.
  • Great post. Stories motivate, inspire, and make others see that they are not the only ones facing fears and adversity.

I would have never thought being a really great storyteller could make the difference until listening to what you're saying to us. I have to read and get the book to understand fully. I'm open to this to help me become a better and successful NMP. On that note...this will be a 'to be continued' section....Thanks so much Eric and looking 4ward to the next video!!

  • Kjell Englund
Another great tool to use. Thanks Eric.
I run in to it over and over again, optimize your business, every single detail. Of course even the story details is very important to reach people. I realize I have a lot of work to do :-)
  • juanfernandogutierrez
I will do that, I was focusing more in the business and trying to explain in detail the business, instead of telling my story... thanks.. See you in the go Diamond event....
  • wouterdeprez
I didn't know stories are that important.. That's a thing i will focus on next month, to tell more and better stories!
  • affe56
Sure storytelling is my most important tool to build trust to prospects. Why I am not pleased how life has been for the last five years and that I have found a better way to improve my lifestyle. Also that the company supply all that I need to make things to work.
  • Thanks for recommending that book. Great video Eric! Like the saying goes " Facts tell, stories sell" There are people that ask me " What if am brand new,and I don't have a story" I tell them to borrow someone else story, until you have one. That's why I feel it is very important to be going to big events, people can listen to other peoples stories and use them. I feel if people build the business and never give up, then will have a story along the way to their success.
