Good tip - and thte correct mindset. Fear is a limitation we are all faced with - fear of many different things but it is something that we can overcome.
  • aliceflanders
Our company gave us a challenge a couple months ago. WE were to recruit 20 people in two months. 2000 reward. I tried daily. Know how many I recruited? 0
  • wealthandriches
What a great mindset! This helps me a lot! Thanks!
  • Daniel W. Cook III
i will add this example in my "getting a new person started" speech.... thanks.

  • Love it! It makes so much sense....going right to part 2 now
  • yitz613
Richard Brooke has some great wisdom and practical soutions for "being" a Network Marketer.
  • Dylan Cooper
    Like it. Repetition breeds confidence.
  • The 500 bucks story is great. I will use it. Especially since we DO pay much more than that. If you truly understand that everystarter is worth potentialy much more.
  • another great and simple lesson
  • AdvocareJax
That is an interesting way of communicating the value in not being afraid to talk to people.
  • John Boyd
Put me down for a million!!
  • Interesting way to look at recruiting a downline....
  • Rubina
Again....another video that makes so much sense!!!
  • meagankellytorres
That is such a good little mind game you can play with yourself to change the vision of your prospecting and recruiting activity. I love it!
  • ViktoriaGuerin
Intersting tips to get motivation and not only in network marketing.
  • Jose Lopez
Powerful! It's a mind set thing, it's a decision ... I have learned that activity is what takes away fear ... Now, the motivation for the activity is a very important point. Great lesson so far.
  • jbledsoejr
Interesting...it's a mindset thing. We are conditioned to work only when $ is involved as the return...we sometimes don't see there has to be a shift in thinking. One shift in NM is transactional thinking to relational thinking. In the scenario discussed there was not shift in mindset...so if the $ doesn't show up like expected or supposed...then that person will go right back into the same behavior based upon their mindset (fear of talking to ppl). Good stuff. Thx Eric!
  • cmattern
It's interesting that some people would automatically respond with "Yeah, I could do four people." They can't see beyond the minimum to the maximum!
  • interesting way of looking on "limiting believes"
    ~
  • Cindy Dower
Yup, Fear for me is the biggest obstacle that creates procrastination and inconsistency. But these interviews and tips are helping me gain confidence, belief and overcome my fears.
  • KeithN
Getting past the initial fear of speaking with people is typically a challenge for new networkers. Our human nature craves acceptance, and fears rejection. Building confidence is something I'm still working on.
  • cherisizzles
We have to talk to people in a way that is attractive and engaging. Hmmm, I like that! It's such a great way to put it. We need a story, but we also need the confidence to TELL the story in a compelling way that makes people want to be involved! Confidence is my biggest obstacle. I like listening to Richard, he's easy to understand.
  • Damijan81
I use that motivation everyday.... "How much is it going to cost me if i dont talk to this person or do the action steps needed" Gets me going! The old classic fear of loss.
  • Replacing fear with confidence.....never a truer word said.....
  • It's about the energy and the confidence that I transmit to people, the belief in the network marketing industry and my company... and the belief and the confidence to where I'm going. More than anything else, any words, any sentences and any tools.

    NOTES:
One important key for success for everybody: Replacing fear with confidence.
As a networker we have to talk with people. And we have to take it with confidence.
Training is good, but if you're not motivated and have the confidence (which for me is a spiritual-emotional-biochemical thing going on on your body-mind) that displaces the fear... you're not going to get it done.
There's ways to do it and displace the fear. When people are stuck... Who do I talk to? What do I say to him? What do I say if they say no?
What if we payed you $500 for everyone you talk to and enroll? You can't tell them about the $500 and you can't use them to advertise or buy leads... you can't bribe them and they don't get the same deal. And you have to sponsor 4 minimum a month. How manny would you sponsor?
    Whatever motivates you?
How do you get through the inertia and get out of the starting blocks?
Fear based vision VS empowered confident vision. It doesn't matter what I will say. I'll just do it.
  • timandtricia
To get the job done the desire has to be stronger than the fear but it really comes down to belief.
  • Pepeneto
Great ideas to destroy this negative thought. If I gave you 5000 dollars for every people you recruit, who are you going to talk to? what are you going to say?. This suddenly change everything in your mind, It's about motivation and belive the reward is bigger than the pain you have to go through.
  • Inger
You get confidence by doing. Less Fear more Confidence. Fear destroys everything.
  • I always learn from your interviews, Eric. Richard is my favorite mentor and a good friend. He is awesome. The main thing I think that holds people back is just the plain fact that they won't do it. It is so hard to pickup the phone and start doing it. Once you start, there is no fear. I mean, you know already that you have a special gift for someone. I love this!!
  • Vonnita2010
What are my thoughts??? well u never ceaze to surprise me, actually Network Marketers never ceaze to surprice me... if you think about it, well it is actually very simple... OVERCOME FEAR AND REPLACE IT WITH CONFICENCE... and yes it is easier said than done, but it is very true!! the tip then would be to MOTIVATE YOURSELF , and once you are the SHINING STAR and you have somebody with fear come to you, then YOU MOTIVATE THEM and so on and so forth!! incredible and the truth is that this is a wall a stone on the road that will determine if the person gives up or continues!!! can't wait to hear part two!! and yes I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH RICARD BLISS!! LET'S DO IT!!
  • ronaldvandomburg
beautiful line: replace fear by confidence
  • Ngoc Tran
This is the most difficult thing that I have to overcome! I believe I can do it!
  • Shovers
This really hit home for me when Richard sent us out on a Scavenger hunt. I was able to talk to everyone. No's did not matter. Then when I got back home, trying to take that experience and put it into prospecting, trying to figure out how to do what I did in the Scavenger Hunt, that was the challenge. What an eye opener! Thanks Richard!
  • Fear stops people in thier tracks, I agree it takes time and training to overcome this. I also agree it is something within. On to the next vid!!!!
  • JenniferDu79
So I guess the question is if that is the case how do you get over it. I get that there is a number that you can hit and people will do anything to get it. But how do we translate that over to our business? I guess I am missing something.
  • heatherbrocklehurst
This is a challenge for most network marketers, I'd imagine. I know it has been for me.
  • gjt
    great insight
  • lynnhall
Face your fears, keep being confident. no matter what keep going.
  • karenandian
Richard is awesome at explaining what one must do to get past the fear and do it anyway. It is no doubt a fear of alot of people starting out (talking to the people - actually it is the fear of NO),
  • julie67
Reminds me of your episode about action replacing fear and fear postponing action.
  • Very good thoughts.
I'll try this concept with my downline :)
  • I will be using this in our event on Wednesday. What a simple but powerful concept to help put " self limiting beliefs ( fear) into perspective and fight " the resistance" to fear with logic and insight on what is really the important emotion. Posture and self confidence in who you are and what you are as a professional.
  • How true is not this. It was a big thing for me in the beginning to get past the fear I had to talk with people.
Today I am confident enough to talk to people, but today I pick my talks, and do not talk to everyone....
  • annenz
Just get on with it. Talking definitely becomes more comfortable. Great insight with the $ value though. Huge thanks
  • jeanalbert
If you want to build a network marketing empire, you must replace your fears with confidence! Find your motivation, build inertia with little successes and don't stop... keep building!
  • jlt0wn
    interesting approach
  • Pete
I'll be sending this to my team
  • Luis (Pelon)
Once you have the motivation it will be really easy to run de extra couple of miles.
  • kristibateman
    Very Good.
  • bartar20
    Great analogy, thanks
  • Jessi
    Excellent! Thank you.
  • feltricks
What a powerful tool to cheat your mind.
I will do that and teach it to my team.
Just cheat your mind to the point it gets comfortable and go out and do the work.
    Thanks a lot guys.
  • aliceclifford
Hi Eric F-E-A-R can be a very big thing to someone not knowing it can be replaced with confidence. F-E-A-R------False-Evidence-Appearing-Real. Thanks A.C.
  • jennyc
    Interesting
  • I love the description of the "depressed " questions. "Who do I talk to?" "What do I say?", "What if they say no?". When you are grounded, these questions go out the window and you talk like friends to anyone who is open to listening. The others, just say "have a great day!"
  • ;) vision talking ;) sounds like a native american indian trick ;)
  • chriskemp817
Richard Brooke is the best! I love his analogy. Confidence leads to success. Think about it. Everything you do in life revolves around having the courage and confidence to take action. How many men would have gotten married if they didn't have the confidence to go ask a girl for a date? I love it!
  • pech
No doubt, confidence is a very important key point in Network Marketing.
  • Lorraine
never thought of it that way. great analogy
  • raybeattie
You build confidence by doing. Vision work will get you started.
  • This analogy really works! I am so fortunate to be working with Richard as he leads with integrity and creates new ideas for our industry. Thank you for bringing Richard back to this forum Eric so more people can experience his gifts.
  • highimpact0406
Facing my fears is something I look forward to tackling. This is a good reminder of that. Will remember this interview when I am in the moment of facing my fears and striving for confidence.
  • amberaimshigh
Great Interview. Looking forward to the rest!
  • Stephen
I am always ready to talk to people, but would my posture change if hypothetically I would hugely benefit from the encounter. Absolutely
  • jerryscribner
I love Richard Brooke and his teaching
  • jerryscribner
    great job eric
  • Another great interview on a subject that sometimes strikes me and stops me from doing what needs to be done.
  • Do you have a big enough "Why"
  • dterrell
Great advice, I will begin to live by it!
  • It's true. Fear based thinking stops most people from making that call. Good analogy too because that next person could be worth 500, 5000, or even a million dollars to you.

Your thoughts lead to your feelings which lead to your actions which lead to your results. If you don't like the results, change your thoughts. Stop listening to the made up voices in your head and DO IT.
  • veronikakari
Good point - fear is powerful
  • We must be actors and improvise around a basic script. Good actors are honest putting through their feelings and that is why they make big money. I try to communicate and exchange information with my prospects without pushing. I t takes a little bit of time but, hey, I did not know about this business a year ago!
  • mspaulamc
What Richard is talking about really works .. and I say that because I have "psyched" myself out many times. And this is how it worked for me....

It wasn't money, but rather, embracing the fact that I am a conscientious person and as such have strived to deliver "my part" in any organization I have ever been involved in. (inventorying my strengths and weaknesses was important here)

During a conference way back in 2005 ... I realized that I could take the mindset of being Richard's employee.. actually held him as "my boss" and then began daily to do what the boss told me my job was .. which, of course, for a network marketer is prospecting/talking to people.

What once was a fear based activity eventually took on a dimension of fun as I talked to and learned so much about other people. One thing became apparent and that is that people really do like talking about themselves.

I learned as I paid attention to what went right and what could be improved and I continued to approach and just talk .. about them .. not me and my "deal" , but about them .. what is important to this person? What is missing for them? Is it something that our business can solve in the way of time and/or money?

After building rapport (key), I would then be able to invite this person to take a look.

Now, I literally talk to anyone within a three foot radius .. about anything from the weather to the traffic to the delay in a flight, etc. (you get the drift) AND I never, ever, ever hold the conversation with them while I am thinking about what's in it for me .. I am present to them and that moment and that has led to some incredible things .. new friends, new business builders, new customers and yes, some others who just didn't like to talk.....it all goes together and is still a work in progress :)

It is ironic to say the least, that it was my "employee" mentality that enabled me to overcome my fears and go out and do my "job" and of course, I have one of the best "bosses" in the world ... Richard Brooke ... my highest regards to you and your continued commitment to the success of this industry - you are my hero!
  • mbryant
Good stuff - "fear based questions" that we've all asked ourselves when we are stuck....
  • juanfernandogutierrez
Replacing Fear with confidence... I like this I am going to take it as a challenge
  • hanneretvik
It seems that NWM Amb. Brooke speaks about me! I am doing a lot of training and learning different techniques, but I realize now that the most important thing to do right now is to replace my fear with confidence! Thanks and I am looking forward to Part 2 (and will of course go and see his previous interview).
  • OK i million dollars per new partner...works for me! thanks for putting this into perspective. Always good to review and rethink and execute with new eyes.
  • travelprohawaii
Oh yes going at it with confidence helps a big deal! Even if I am new I feel like I have something to offer this person. I have something they need and want.
  • Ryan
Sounds again like you can't say the wrong thing to the right person or all the right things to the wrong person, however, if you don't say anything you'll never know. I like the idea of quantifying with a specific number since you gotta do whatever it takes to motivate you.
  • Proverbs 23:7 says For as he/she thinketh in his/her heart, so is he. If you keep saying you can't do it you won't do it. Have a vision and make that vision come to life.
  • SJ Doug
Everything we do in our business keeps pointing to what is going on in our head.
  • The funny thing is -- if you sponsor 4 people a month consistently it would be worth WAY more than $500 per person! Yet people would respond mentally to the $500 figure ... interesting.

    Best,
    Scott
  • It's interesting how many people are driven by fear--fear of rejection or fear of loss. I can see that when you are putting it this way, the focus is not of fear because of what's in the mind. Confidence cannot be bought, and it has to be a personal choice no matter what the circumstances are.
  • My thoughts are - I love it - inspiring interview, Robert is so down-to-earth, can't wait to watch part 2.
  • happyhealthybob
It is all about training, if you train people to think that they should not be afraid then they will not be.
  • activity breed success which dramatically improves confidence
  • liora

Vision Board is the best tool against fears
  • shawncyr
Interesting. So, do we visualize the meeting, the money, both? I guess it would be about whatever gets you past the fear that is holding you in place. It's time to get started...
  • Arnold Thompson
    Awesome
  • Awesome exercise which puts things into perspective. It would require some tweaking for those not so much motivated by money... those who Zig Ziglar say lie about other things ;-)
  • Robbin
It's sad but true money is a motivator. So..Since we can't get that "fee" we have to wrap our head around that concept only and speak with confidence as if we are getting ___amount of $$ for talking to people.
  • alltheverybest
Whatever can change the mindset should do it...
  • orlyalbo
    Talk, Talk, Talk...
The only way to compete my fear is doing, Talking, reding, lerning, doing, doing...
  • gkamlm
Replacing fear w/confidence to break out of the blocks to getting started. A real key to getting things going
  • BetterCoffee.dk
    Too right!

One of the most important steps, I find, is to discover how to talk to yourself about what you are doing.

Personally I like to adhere to the minimum daily behavior.
These days I just go out and introduce my business to one person a day (Partner prospecting) and my product to one person a day (Customer prospecting).
If I do that it's success for me. I can do that every day and I can teach that to my downline.

I have visions and dreams, but when I set actual targets to reach I begin to fear failure.
What if the minimum daily behavior won't get me to my target this week???

If I just concentrate on the behavior, I believe my business will grow.
I don't know how fast, but it doesn't matter because I can take three years instead of one if necessary.
  • karivankleef
I think the one thing that has helped me put fear aside is to just keep doing it. The little successes build the larger successes and eliminates the fear.
  • CarlosVera
Everything comes dow to motivation, and motivation doesn't come from outside, it's starts within yourself when you become confident. Only then you can get rid of the fear that's holding you back.
  • Lotta
    Thank you
  • Irina
In order to get rid of fear, we have to face it more often.
  • Agneta Rebo
Nice thought, it´s all about whats in your mind. If you have the motivation you would do anything to get what you want.
  • DianaValdez
I don't like to play the headhunter game but I get the idea, is like the people that say they don"t have money to start, if you offer them a BMW in 5,000 they would find them for sure!
  • Bea Resnick
    First courage, then confidence.
  • Marion
Replacing that fear is the key, and it will be replaced with confidence - patience and consistency go hand in hand.
  • dave s
Replacing fear with confidence. The fear shrinks as our confidence grows.
  • bethascoli
Ah yes, replacing fear with confidence - I think it's true that you can't just stop being afraid, you have to replace it with another emotion. Great advice from Mr. Brooke!
  • margarethockaday
Confidence is one of the keys needed in any market. One must motivate themselves to accomplish their goal or goals.
  • What an awesome tip to recruit, the headhunt thing lol.... Mr Bliss Brooke really knows al lot about our profession and I'm glad he shares it with us. Best regards from your biggest fan.
  • Inger
Hahaha... So now we have to put all these good tips into action... or we stay fans? ;-)
  • susanclark
3244 - Well, I'm still in the running - Replacing Fear with CONFIDENCE - Richard Bliss Brooke feels that the key to success is replacing fear with confidence - We have to talk with people and I have found that the more you practice talking to people the better you get. You just have to get out there and do it. As Richard Brooke said find something that motivates you to get out there initially - whatever it takes. Once you get out there and talk with people in a meaningful way, you should gain confidence to do it again. Confidence will disperse fear if you want to succeed.
  • It all starts with determining why we are playing this game. For some, money might be the easy answer. But if you dig deeper and determine what it is that the money will do for you, I believe the motivation and drive from within will be stronger and last longer.

In our business we have to talk to people. One of the key aspects of developing confidence is learning the skills to effectively communicate. It doesn't come naturally. When we learn to be truly interested in others, having their needs and wants in mind (and heart), our confidence will replace our fear, and our business will flourish.
  • Connie Tolton
Thanks again for talking about a topic that is so important to acknowledge.

    Connie t
  • Thanks Eric! Fear is what holds most people back from achieving what they really want.
  • "Replacing Fear with confidence", wonderful, good learning, thank you very much.
  • Great stuff... using that analogy of how fear can't stop you when there is $5000 out there is perfect.
  • PaulineP
Sometimes we do need mind games! But we need to decide to play!
  • Nice reminder from Richard about "having the confidence to displace the fear".....FEAR is probably the biggest sticking point in this business. Great stuff Eric and thanks.
  • "what you think about you bring about", right? Personally I'd rather believe I can do anything and see what happens than think the opposite and risk the outcome. It's surely more fun. Thanks for the perspective Eric.
  • Edith Kohler
    Like this one!
  • Hai
HUGE topics to discuss... fear & confidence. Complexity of my fears...ohhhhhhhh
  • Jorge Longoria
that is reality. people with fear will not go anywere! everyone should nedd to reaplace that kinds of fear. each of us know what are we doing wrong and we must take action! thanks exelent!
  • $500 isn't enough. I'm glad you raised up Eric!
  • alltheverybest
I agree with you - but could be enough for some and more might seem 'unreal' to them!
  • nickgarrison
Eric you are introducing me to so many outstanding stars and I thank you
  • peterragg
    Another nuggett, spot on again.

Do not be afraid to ask, the worst they can say is no, without the thank you on the end. They are not going to kill you and you will probably never see them again. If you have a brilliant opportunity etc etc which they have just turned down, well more fool them. Move onto the next person on your list with confidence. Remember you need people to say no, because your ratio will contain a percentage of nos. Check out Jim Rohns CD on this called "Building your Network Marketing business". And if you are not getting nos then you are not asking enough people.
    Regards
    Peter Ragg
  • socorro
Fear oh yes I know about it, thank you
  • Maxwellhealth
Fear of Failure will provide a perpitual lack of activity....but.... Fear of Not Succeeding fuels the engine of champions
  • carolmcwilliams
Great perspective to put the mirror into my psyche and look to see where fear stops me from reaching out to people. Ok my set point would probably be $5000 for my warm market, as I don't talk to them much from uncomfortableness. My set point for cold market is $200. Interesting analysis.
  • Fear can stem from a lack of belief. Having a strong belief in what you are doing will help eliminate your fear. Once you believe, you will have the confidence by default.
  • rmonte
Great tip. Beat fear in your mind with whatever means are necessary. Trick yourself into becoming successful!
  • Bernadette
great interview! Can't wait for the second part.
  • ptpublisher
    It's a cruel truth!!!
  • dlinkhart
You're right, it's all in the perception. $500 may not do it, but $50,000 or $500.000 sure will! Great stuff!
  • garyparmenter
Good stuff! When motivated, fear goes away.
  • Interesting and good analogies. I think i would put a figure on getting people just to look at your third party tool, say $200, and then let the tools do the work. Then those that sign up are worth $100,000 each!

A good reminder of how to restart your business!
  • jerryscribner
$500/head, who you going to talk to? (everyone) What should I say? (whatever you want) What if they say no? (NEXT) Its $500/head!!!
  • Thanks.
  • hpena
What do you get when you rub two dimes together? A Pair A Dime (Paradigm) shift. If you can change the way you see the world, you change your life. If you can change how someone else sees the world, you just started a movement. We have a better way.

  • turjcxg
I LOVE the analogy of the $500 or whatever amount of money. I heard that and started mentally calculating in my head what if?! Thank you Eric (and Richard) for putting these shows on "the air" for us - they are so valuable.
  • billrogers
Great Nugget. Fear is everywhere, great analogy on displacing it and putting in it perspective.
  • agelfederico
Makes all the sense in the world, thanks for the info
  • lucbehar
    244
    nice amounts..... ;-)
I also think that it is a question of repetition! More you do, more you repeat, the better and more confident you will be!
The first time you will take a plane, jump benji, go skuba diving, cook for your friend, your fear will be higher and maybe the results not so high!
But when you do those 2, 5, 10, 20, 100 times, then your confidence will go up and your fear will disappear!
    Looking forward for 2nd episode
  • Steve_Nelson
This is what I've been looking for. This is the answer for me, for how to get into the game, and quit telling myself that I will build when I.....
  • Bryan_in_KC
I have found that when I open my mouth, USUALLY, the right words come out and if they don't I have just learned what NOT to say next time. Of course there are those days that I just keep opening my mouth and learn more and more!
  • seija
    Great stuff! Thanks.
  • Paco_Carreno
I love this lessons... come on! let's go talk... approaching someone to share an opportunity is something scary? NO... our fears are unfounded fears... It's just a matter of skills. Wow! I'm going to use that example of $ 5000 per enrollment with the minimum of 4 / month in that condition of not telling nothing, not paying back, just pure energy, pure "you in front of that person" pointing a 3rd party resource and inviting him/her to dream again and do something towards. Thank you.
  • theuns
    Cool Eric I love it

I will say just take that 1st step and stat to love what you do and your Confidence will follow.
And today we can talk to 20 to 40 people if you know the how to and i love it :-)

I do have a fear of talking to people and I find myself making up excuses . I make them so real they become the truth
  • tomlacey
We all need to learn how to get past ourselves.
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
confidence makes it easier to motivate yourself.
to get confidence is like smiling; when you pretend a smile your brain will act like it is a real one.
TIP: (not scientifically proven, but my own experience in lots of situations) if you pretend confidence, your brain will act like you have real confidence and your fear will dissapear into the background. But you have to practice over and over again until the real confidence is there...
  • hillin
Action is the best remedy to fear.
  • daddykekere
do what you fear and you will see the end of that fear.
  • gloriavintila
It is like a lobotomy you have to apply to your "fear" part of the brain. And that part needs to be replaced by something else, which is confidence, this is how I see it.
  • It's true, but does motivation and confidence nessecarily go togehter? I know I can be fantasticly motivated but still shaking like a tree in a tropical storm by the thought of aproaching some people, but on the other hand totaly confident with others....
  • rbbrooke
Mholm, Confidence is a condition of Motivation. To the degree you are motivated you will have confidence. And Motivation is NOT desire. You may want something so badly that you are shaking but that has nothing to do with being motivated to cross the street to get it.
Belief and expectation are also conditions of Motivation and motivation is domain specific. You may be highly motivated to speak to some people and not to others simply because with some you SEE a positive outcome.
  • beckydesabah
Get motivated and get started, don't even think of your fear, it only is a limiting belief.
Motivation helps remove fear, so keep yourself busy and replace your fear with confidence.
  • marvalouslife1
    Yes, Eric.
Confidence and self confidence is the greatest secret for success.
    thank you.

I need to admit I'm still afraid of rejection, and I need to change that.
It's 1:41am my time, I'm still working in my traditional job, yesterday I slept 4 hours only, I don't see the end of it, I don't see the light in this... the only light I currently see is inside MLM.
I need to control that fear today... tomorrow it will be too late.

  • Best way to take care of fear: Do something! Take action. Enjoy the surprise!
Confidence comes with the knowing I can draw upon the experiences of handeling a variety situations in many successful ways. Fear blocks that learning experience, so go get some experience first hand! Generally I've found that the anxiety of fear was greater that actual outcome.
    Replace "I can't" with "I must".
  • There are 4 basic cornerstones to work on: Knowledge - Confidence - Activity - Result

Replacing fear with confidence. Taking that first step is really hard, but with fantastic sponsers and a great training program in place, it makes the step just a little bit easier. It always comes down to you though.

Fear is what stops a lot of people from progressing forward in life in business, etc. Have to have a vision of where you want to be and fight through the fear. Confidence is so huge and people can sense when you're confident and excited. It allows you to feel empowered and in our business it's essential because the techniques can be taught coupled with the confidence to go out there and talk to anyone because everybody is a prospect
  • Tarashon Broomes
great interview....need motivation & confidence....confidence is definitely a key in anyone success. having confidence leaves no room for fear

It is easy to overcome fear when you stop putting the emphasis on yourself and put the emphasis on what you can offer or do to help the person to whom you're talking. I also like his example.

  • Great interview Eric. Interesting ideas on how to create confidence in people. I believe that the best way to create confidence in yourself is to create it in other people by giving it away. We should all try that out and watch what will happen. You can not give away anything that you already have and what you give away you get to keep. So confidence is something that we all have inside of us already, be just need some great techniques to get it out.
    Make it a great day!

  • This is my biggest problem Fear. I need to just face it and move on.
  • georgeman
The vision of being able to do it is so important. I heard someone say that some people interact with 10 prospects a day as if they are also dying the same amount of times. The vision that comes with practice is so awesome, and greatly helps get over such a perceived difficult task.
  • eugenejohnson
wow good point ...what a way to think about it

It seems everyone faces fears... the difference seems to be how that fear is conquered or allowed to conquer. So many times I have been fearful of doing something and then once done I realizes it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Two years ago I took a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon. Everyone said I was nuts. I was scared to death...So glad I step onto that helicopter and took the ride. I watch the video I made now and am proud of my accomplishment.

Face your fears, keep being confident. No matter what keep going.
  • Eric, Funny thing is I was setting here thinking about doing some calls and kept making excuses. Guess the real hesitation was fear created by a bad day and I didn't want to face the rejection. As Winston Churchill said "There is nothing to fear but fear itself". Guess I'd better get on the phone.

    Very good information.

The confidence will be increasing in a time the believe it's coming up.

It all starts with the decision to take action. Whenever action is taken the results begin to appear and each time you get more skills that will increase the belief and hence the confidence to replace fear.

Repetition is the mother of skill.

I guess the best way to overcome fear is to have immediate success, and then build on that. Its the slowness out of the starting blocks that increase that fear level. Don't aim for perfection, its "doing the process" that is important.

  • A perception shift - brilliant! What your mind tells you IS your reality.
  • Fear is a powerful thing but, if you never ask, you will never know either. So what do you have to loose. Just get out there and ask away. You will be very surprised. Its really scary when some says please tell me more. Then what are you going to do?
  • tambry
Motivated confidence needs to permeat in yourself to displace any fear. This is true and I think people forget that they have felt this when they were first getting trained in their j-o-b-. Especially anyone who has worked on a help desk and you get calls everyday about things that you haven't a clue what they are talking about but you have to deal with and ask the right questions to get the right information from them to direct them to the correct place so their problem gets resolved. Once you do it over and over - you are no longer afraid to answer that call or in this case make that call.
  • latachia_2
It kind of boils down to,when one is able to get to the point of getting the aura within yourself to do it.Like in his firsr interview, his turning point was when his mentor died(the vice pres. of his company)
  • onemartymac
You must eliminate fear and believe in yourself to be successful
  • HoracioMejia
Great interview! In Network Marketing, trainning only won't bring success. Network Marketing is about relating to people, talking to them. While we don't do that, we are lacking a motivator. So, if we are not practicing, if we are not being successful, lets stop and find our motivators. Until we dont understand the benefit (motivators) or what we do, we will not make the effort or doing it.
  • barryburgin77
It makes sense to replace one thing with another....I mean, to get rid of a bad habit, replacement it with a good habit.

I have a "housekeeping" question.... Regarding the "points" that I am accumulating..uh..what does it mean?
  • Interesting take on how to replace fear with confidence. Sometimes it is a case of just putting one foot in front of the other - - or pickup the phone and start dialing, once I start - the momentum keeps building and something wonderful begins to happen!
  • excellent exercise for learning how to overcome fear
  • dstfa96
I loved when Richard Brooke said that in order to build an empire we have to talk to people and we have to be motivated and confident...People can sense when we are afraid and if that is what we portray when we are presenting our opportunity regardless of how spectacular our opportunity is they won't want to join our business because they won't have confidence that we can lead them to success. I am going to work on replacing my fear with motivation and confidence! ;-)
  • Believe it or not I had a fear of being successful

  • Understanding the power of what one has to offer is key to being able to tell people with posture and the right person in your group will be worth far more than $500 or $5k a head. Thanks for pointing that out guys, but this 'Imagine if . . .' stuff?
    Conceptually? Great!
In reality?, come on guys, for the person who is frightened to death of talking to people that's just ridiculous and completely trivialises the process of helping them learn to overcome their fear. I'm shocked that you not only used that analogy but then went on to discuss it. Someone with a very low IQ might just be motivated by that rubbish, but seriously!!!
  • ericworre
The rest of the interview will give it a bit more perspective. I agree that on it's own, it's not complete. However, I've played tricks with my mind many many times in order to get through my own fears in the past and it's worked very well. Another way to say it, is if the reasons are strong enough, you'll move through any fear.
  • Still not buying it Eric but I guess that just because I don't like it doesn't mean someone else might not be able to use it to overcome their fear. Let's see what part 2 brings.
  • Only action will replace fear with confidence.
  • Dee_Canada

  • Cee_G
Interesting perspective from Richard when he put the money into the scenario...we still have the same fears, but the money involved makes us push past the fears. Maybe we need to picture this "reward" all the time to help us push past our fears. Again, it is overcoming the programming in our minds, and the more we do it, the more confidence we will have, which will put the fears to rest.
  • This is a great show with a vital point being made. As Nike would say "Just Do It". If we knew deep down that the value of each person that we recruited was (say) £50,000 (which of course it could easily be for one of the 20% of people that we recruit who goes on to really build a network) it would get people motivated to crack on with the job. Unfortunately it is difficult for people (including me) to get started when you haven't yet seen the money.

I think the second point about "who do I ask" comes from that paradigm of scarcity instead of abundance.

Since attending Eric's seminar on Monday I am alive to the potential of my business - indeed as I was driving around today I was smiling about the reality that EVERYONE is a potential customer and I can't think of too many traditional business that can say that or indeed know how to reach these people through traditional marketing channels - they're just too expensive to be that wide-ranging. Whereas all we have to do is catch people doing something right, compliment them to raise their self-esteem, talk with them to identify a need for an additional part-time income and if they respond appropriately; give them a first step, 3rd party tool to introduce the opportunity.

We've got to get organised and scripted enough to have the confidence to approach people but most of all we've got to just do it. The skill comes from the doing - I think Cicero said that ;-)
  • Donna Wheaton
Replacing the fear- Fear is a powerful thing, but if I can change that to confidence and power I will be on fire! I just have to get out of my own way and if there is an area that I am not comfortable in learn about it. My vision has to be big enough to get through the fear!

Replacing Fear with Confidence is the right formula. However it's easier said then done.

Great concept. In my day job, I'm a salesman. And one of my primary responsibilities is opening up new accounts. If I were to take my network marketing company as seriously as my day job, and if I were to pretend that I was REQUIRED to recruit 4 people per month, then maybe I'll start to get to where I should be at. I'm going to try that!
  • Erik
Great follow up :) $ 5000 in sign on bonus per person would do the trick ha ha. Mentaly you must think you will. You will in the future :)
  • I remember you asked us to comment every episode and so far I am. What the "prize" would be, I totally forgot. Richard is one of my favorits and he discusses fear over and over and always shows a way to get over the fear. Thanks Eric and Richard.
  • For me fear has been, and is, one of the biggest challenges. Fear of 'failing' (again), fear of succeeding (and alienating myself from friends and family who criticized, ridiculed, and objected), fear of becoming someone other than who I've been 'programmed' to be, fear of losing a grip on what I presently think is important. Anyone else?

This is great. To turn your fear into confidence everytime you feel fear is a nice trick to get use to. I like how Brooks says look at it as you are getting paid just to talk to someone. Ive heard it as find your number. If you talk to 10 people and only get one. Divide what your company pays you for that one by 10 and thats how much you make just for talking to someone regardless of their response. Interested or not it going to earn you money.
  • Earl

  • Ria Leermakers
Well done!!!! See you in Amsterdam!
  • I like this...we should all revisit the people who we feared most in the beginning.
  • bartonmurray
as an owner of an executive search business I can appreciate the "head-hunter" analogy, but the price per head does need to be higher than $500 for me to get excited (lol).
  • That is why Eric said to raise the price until you do get excited. The beauty in NM is that you can raise the price and it is achievable.
  • rbbrooke
I use $500 a head to include everyone and keep it simple. And....you can reverse engineer all great $100,000 a month incomes to find the real and extraordinary value of each new rep you sponsor. Most 100k a month earners have 2-4 superstars and personally sponsored 100-200 within a year or two to find them. A million a year in income for say just ten years...ten million divided by 200 equals $50,000 each.
It is a delayed gratification proforma but that is the mathematical way to get the number into the motivational stratosphere
  • bartonmurray
Nadir-agreed....NM is very adaptable to every person and situation, thanks for your comment!

  • Episode 35 of Eric Worre's 100 episode Throw Down Challenge:

We've listened to you speak about posture for about the last year and the thing that resonates with me about this episode is POSTURE. The right posture means everything. I've witnessed it in myself over the last 2 and a half weeks. In that time, I have seen a transformation in my posture. Sharing confidence in what I do and sharing the information with that same confidence. Before that I always had a bit of fear. As they say the proof is in the pudding . 3 new enrollees in my business in the last 13 days (even with me being out of town for 5 days of that for an amazing event by my company) with 8 more about to fall out of the funnel and into my organization THIS MONTH. AMAZING!! This will roughly double the # of personal enrollees in my organization since I started 2 years ago. WOW..

Replacing Fear w/ Confidence.... Very key. Some people are frozen by fear and don't even know it. I love how he placed the motivator amount in the picture.... makes me say...hmmm, i don't know what i'm gonna say, but I'm gonna do something.

Alot of people let the same amounts of money pass thru their fingertips everytime they choose not to talk to someone about their opportunity.
  • Kelly_A_Hamilton
Yes you definately have to at some point face your fears. I did and what a difference it made in my life. I can now speak in front of people without stumbling over my words and my knees knocking together and have actually begun to enjoy it. I now anticipate the next time, rather than worry about it. Life is good when you can make yourself bigger than your problems and worries.

#244 - Thanks for this post.
  • Replacing fear with confidence is an obstacle unfortunately too many do not overcome. I find that some newer distributors tend to want to wait until they have achieved any type of success before they will go out and talk to people. I guess they need to realize that they'll always be waiting with that type of thinking, and it really is a confidence issue that they are dealing with. The "what if you got $500.00 for every person you talked to?" strategy is a great tool for new distributors, as well as the ones that have been around awhile and are struggling.
  • soxfan071
I have decided to take the target market approach and it is alot of cold calling from lead list. I tell myself that if someone were paying me to call 100-200 numbers a day something like $3.00 per call how many would I make? ALOT! I have had some success with this and the more success I have the more I want to move forward. If we don't do anything that will be our result. I find it easier to overcome my fear by just doing.
  • artdlasvegas
Replacing fear, the best topic yet because that is what holds me back at times, because I am confident. Where is my fear comming from? Well is probably has to be I don't feel 100% prepared.

By taking the first step of picking up the phone and losing that fear, you will start to get momentum that will translate into success.
  • Confidence is critical for recruiting. I like the message about what you say is unimportant, it’s more about your posture and how you say it.
  • Transformationalhealth
WOW...What a great video. Thank you so much for giving me ideas on how to motivate myself so that I am willing to talk with others. I can't wait for the second part of this video :)
  • First I would have loved to attend the Jim Rohn memorial! He was such an inspiration in my young life and throughout my life.

Fear was always been a challenge for me until I read a book called "Feel the fear and do it anyway". It really made me take a hard look at what fear was. We all can feel anxious and nervous at times and if we understand that these feelings are ok, we just need to feel it and do it anyway. I know this is simplistic but it helped me in those gripping moments of absolute fear.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best:

"That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved."

And if someone paid us $500 bucks to talk to someone I have no doubt we would all talk to thousands!!

    Thanks for the thoughts Eric:)

  • I like this. Make it into a 'game' of your own that no one else is privy too.

I have to disagree on one small point however. Everyone is a suspect. Not everyone is a prospect. It is not just semantics. While both doors and windows are ways out of the room/building calling everything that appears like a door a door will likely keep you in many rooms believing the ‘door’ [really just a fresco on the wall] is stuck or locked.

I say everyone is a suspect. What makes a prospect is someone with a name, a way to contact them again and the knowledge that they are looking. Before they were a prospect they were a lead that became a contact. Prospects are people you are building a relationship with. Until they know you, like you and trust you… and they are ready [at noon] the likelihood to sponsoring them into any lifelong program is nil.
  • Mark_Abrahams_UK
Another valuable interview and principles thanks.

I need to remember that many prospects may have fears which we don't - or equally, if we do have fear then we must overcome our fears not only by thinking differently but also by learning skills and knowledge which will shade our views.

This way round we build confidence because we then know not only how to best do what we need to do but also that we will be successful.

I'm grateful to Richard Bliss Brooke and to Eric and am looking forward to part 2.

    Thanks again Eric.

Getting rid of the fear based vision. Building confidence and displacing the fear. I can dish out the words myself, but still have trouble overcoming that fear. Every day will get better and better, until one day the total confidence will take over any left over fear.

Good analogy, now need to put it in practice. Thanks Eric.
  • Fake it till you make it. Like Patty Gale said, "Confidence and fear can not exist in the same place." And we are creatures of habit. If we make ourselves be confident eventually it will be all we know.
  • Taking the first step with confidence and being motivated to talk to people is a HUGE step for me. To be successful I MUST concur this, so I need address this fear and get talking and meeting people...on my way to a successful NWM business :)

Somebody said that FEAR is the most destructive of all the mental enemies, replacing it with confidence and faith, true faith in ourselves in our ability and visualizing our success and fear will fade away.
    Thanks a million.
  • makes sense, action will reduce fear and putting yourself to get started to build confidence is a good idea!
  • Very true! Confidence and fear can not exist in the same place.
  • TAbrams
I look forward to being able to watch each new segment every day.

This interview with Richard Brooke is great. Your Mindset and vision in this business is key. You have to be 120% all in and talk to people with conviction.

I see so many people consume themselves with fear coming into our business and then it is their own fear that takes them out of this business.

I loved Richard's vision setting exercise. When we can displace the fear in people, the confidence will build. Using a $$ amount that motivates them to help remove the fear is an excellent way to change how someone looks and perceives a situation.

If we can get everyone out of the starting block from day 1 with their fear displaced... WOW...

    Can't wait for Part 2!!

This was fun watching when placing a price tag on how much one deserves for each person he/she talks with just to build one's confidence over one's fear!! Playing games with the mind just to push thru the fear is amazing when implemented and when one is on a roll!! SO encouraging...looiking forward to PT.2 of the next video!! Thx, Eric!!
  • Hi Eric! I watched todays show right before I called a few of my prospects! Great timing and because of thiis great interview, my calls turned out just fine! Thank you for sharing and inspiring! / Linda, Sweden

Hi Eric It seems that wherever hed similar problems our work is to help people access and change end then everything will change.

So true, i think everyone has to deal with this sooner or later..
  • This is good. But if money is the only motivation for the contact your results will vary.

You rock Eric!!!! Thanks so much for this interview. Fear has been a real issue for me and this interview is another "ah ha" moment. I will go back and look at the original interview you did with Richard Bliss Brooke.

On another matter, I'm on a Jim Rohn kick right now and I would like to know which book I should start reading as a relative newcomer to personal development. Thanks.

Thanks, Eric. This was a tremendous interview. Just what I needed. I will be changing my mindset and will also inform my downline to do the same. I will go back and view Richards interview.

I have come to believe that fear is the only impediment to success, in any field or endeavor. Almost everyone has the ability and talent it is just the drive to make it happen!

The mindset makes all the difference , and we can control that

"Playing games with your mind." Excellent. I felt the shift when Eric said what if it is $5,000 for every person I sponsor.
  • Everybodyis a prospect. Don't prejudge who will join you in your business. Treat everyone equally and you will find out who the builders and superstars are. You will be very surprised.
  • This is spot on the money, changing your mindset completely changes your approach and confidence.
