NMPRO #302 – Leadership Part 3 – Sharing Your Vision

May 12th, 2010 Email This

Filmed on pit row at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, today we talk about vision is wasted if you don’t tell other people about it.  Telling Your Story (your vision) is Important!  (and I forgot to include my lap around the track in the pace car so I’ll include it tomorrow).

    Thank you.
  • aliceflanders
Not exactly sure what I should include in my vision.
  • Jonathan
It's great to h ave a vision but if you don't articulate it - it's going to waste.
  • Llardizabal1
We will have to work deeper in our vision, the important thing is that you really see it, smell it, touch it, feel it in order for people to believe it and also for your self to believe in it in order to achieve it.
  • jeanalbert
Tell others about your vision. Got it.
  • Following through:
    1. What is my vision?
2 Tell the story of my vision.
  • I share my vision with everyone who will listen!
  • In order for others to join us in our vision we DO have to tell it to them, for them to imagine being a part of it and having a positive impact
  • Another part I work hard on in my team: Make my team tell stories instead of giving facts and figures and sharing it as much as possible by teaching my team that they should not be looking for new teammembers but should focus on sharing their story with EVERYONE.
  • FedericoGrowthsperity
Hey Eric, The key to success is the PLAN DO REVIEW thing...this keeps you in the game, and while playing is how we create the vision we want to share... At first we try to share OTHERS vision, but as we become professionals, we start to create and share our own... and this is where the game starts to shift in your favor.

Thanks for sharing your vision everyday, I have taken amny pieces from here, and made them my own!

    Cheers!

    Federico
  • Jessi
    Tell your story!
  • Vision doesn't matter if nobody knows about it. Tell your story.
  • pech
I will remember that. Vision is wasted if it is a secret.
  • chipc
i have a story, now i need to articulate it enthusiasticly
  • seija
I have to learn story telling

    Sharing the vision.
This is when we move into dangerous waters. :)
This is when we risk people calling us nutcases and dreamers!
I've actually just started telling people that I believe NM will be the most important marketing channel in ten years time. Because I believe that!
Some people laugh! I don't mind.
Now, let's go tell the World!
  • krisic
I do need to share that we are forming a mastermind group in Indianapolis; that we CAN change our own futures, it's NOT out of our hands.
  • martinvf
Define my vision, articulate my vision, tell my story, get some feedback, tweak it a little bit, get some feedback, get some feedback... til the point I I pass on the message I want, and make other people to take action.
  • Ria Leermakers
If you don't tell and shw anybody what your vision is, it's not worth very much.
  • keithraines
Tell my story to help others see a way that they can succeed.
  • yitz613
1st) Define our vision. 2nd) Articulate our vision in a way that helps people to to take action. Excellent points to pass on...
  • Miguel Cortez
On share the Vision .... People dont know how to tell there story.... And think they have to make one up... in which it so wrong.. :)
  • rmonte
The vision is what carries us through and conveying it correctly to others will make them want to come along.
  • veronikakari
I have it in my other part of the business, but not mlm, have to learn
  • kgadol
Will revisit mine tonight and ensure it is on point. Sharing it is a joy ...
  • margarethockaday
As always, Eric you are on point
  • This has been a great series. Every great leader has a clearly defined vision statement and can spit it out anytime, anywhere. So thanks, I am writing mine....don't know why I didn't think of it :)
  • I am working on this one every day.
  • Agneta Rebo
I´ll have to work on this one.
  • Articulating your vision inspires others to be great as well as thinking about what their vision is all about. Great episode Eric.
  • karivankleef
This is something I am working on.
  • Sharing your vision inspires others to see theirs.
  • gkamlm
Sharing one's vision is as important as a effective elevator speech.
  • Simon_and_Lia_NL
you'r right, vision and telling storys is also a heartbeat. cheers... thanks Eric, I need definitly a good vision to be able to tell it on
  • building your story that get the people and then tell the story your vision on and on and on
    Tks
  • Lotta
    A good story sells.
  • this is something I need to work on so that it's automatic and creates actions...thanks
  • Darnell
Telling the story and articulating it to others so it creates action...excellent point...thanks so much!!
  • I totally agree, if you can not share your vision that it really does not have any value.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,
    -ed
  • need to work on my story telling skills!
  • Ngoc Tran
I’m very interesting in this point Eric, and of course, I love to know your vision too. Could you please sharing with us? :)
  • chocolatelifesaver
I don't believe I could do this without having my personal story to inspire me to build on. Good point! Thanks Eric.
  • raybeattie
Learn to tell your story with the vision included. Thanks, Eric.

  • crwood1967
How true, we all have to be able to tell our story and get our message across in a positive way.
  • hcapcarp
A vision needs to come from humility or it will sound like snow job.
  • carolmcwilliams
I just learn so much from this community. Yes, telling compelling stories that move people to action is so valuable a skill as a leader. I want to practice this more so I can become a powerful visionary for my passion and purpose.
  • jean_albert
Ditto, our story is what attracts people into our vison of the future.
  • seija
    Something I need to practice
  • mspaulamc
Because your mind is like a computer, you actually program it when you keep telling your story and then you will move into the direction of that vision. And, how cool is that?
  • ronaldvandomburg
I love telling stories and I'm amazed about the power of stories every time again
  • Earl
Telling the vision story is key! The quality of your story telling is if people take action! That is a great gauge to see if your story telling and vision is great or just okay.
  • I agree that people relate to stories - great series.
  • talya_mitzafon
Sharing your vision can be Some great inspiration to other people.
  • juanfernandogutierrez
    telling story is the magic
  • Agree storytelling is so important...
  • hpena
We always want to improve, this excersize of improving the story of our vision gives me the direction I need to improve my communication skills.

    Nando
  • This is one of the greatest things you can do to build your business. If people relate to your story and your vision, they will come along with you.
  • Sharing the vision is the best bit I think.

With thanks to Dr Stephen R Covey:

"Leadership is communicating to others their worth and potential so clearly that they can see it for themselves" (The 8th Habit)

Modelling, Pathfinding, Aligning, Empowering - the 4 roles of leadership
  • juanfernandogutierrez
Of course, if we do not share our vision, how can all the organization, know where we re going!
  • chriskemp817
Tell everybody where you're going and see if they want to go with you!
  • Lisette
I am work ing on my ability to tell stories
  • alltheverybest
I think I have double vision! One of mine (its going to sound like I am sucking up, Eric) is to help to get our profession MAINSTREAM acceptance. I am FED UP with people (including me in the past) being embarrassed to admit that they are in NWM....

You are giving us all these great stories to share - truly a better way!
  • This is something that needs a lot of training - but of course it is important to be good at telling your story. People doesn´t join your company - they join YOU. You better have a good, but honest story to tell.
  • susanclark
#302- Leadership - Part 3 - Sharing Your Vision - We must work on our story so we can share our vision effectively and enthusiastically. What good is a vision if you can't share it.
  • mrmauriocrawford
good one... Sharing your vision, is something that I would love to hear more about.
  • mrmauriocrawford
Does the vision totally connect w/ your goals... if so, How do I make realistic goals.
  • bethascoli
I'm working on getting better at telling stories!
  • The message I heard from today's video is not only to create your vision and share it, but also to include what action you want people to take. People are waiting for instructions. Without instructions people might feel good hearing about what you want to accomplish. Let them know how they can be a part of it. Your story should educate, inspire, and motivate. Again, include a call to action and let people know how they can participate in your vision.
  • Matt Genet
I like Les Brown's story about sharing his vision to be on the Robert Schuler show. He asked everyone he talked to if they knew him until he came into contact with someone who did and got on the show! You cannot fulfill your vision by yourself and no one can help you if they don't know what your vision is!
  • bryantkeefe
So I should be telling stories? In sales I preach scripts, similar idea. Practice also....No one wins an Oscar without a script and practice. The greats don't "wing it".
  • Facts tell, stories sell. Tell your story and you'll relate to a lot more people and as a result have a lot more success.
  • germanjaramillo
So we have a homework from right now. To begin to share the vision to every body since the first moment of the prospectation.

No excuses. Just have to begin with this.

    From Colombia,

    -GJ
  • patrickmcfeely
I must tell my story not keep it to myself.
Thank you for your time Eric.
  • jlconner
Articulate your vision. Don't just tell it. Be passionate.
  • spot on.
    ~
  • Inger
Telling a vision requires having a vision... Maybe that´s the challenge for many people.
  • Presenting your vision to other people will give you a strong team, heading in the same direction.
  • Jessi
Storytelling is a powerful tool, indeed!
  • Eric, Just like Les Brown said in his interview. Learn to tell your story. It does work.
  • caronwashington
stories sell and facts tell. Plain n simple. People can relate to you with stories and how you articulate them
  • dstfa96
    Thx Eric...fantastic info as usual!!!

I will share my story and articulate my vision and people will take action immediately because my vision will excite people! I pray that my entire team will do the same.
  • coltsco
I keep tweaking...hope I get it perfected soon.
  • The plot thickens. A great follow-up from yesterday.

PS: Would you please stop it with all this fun you're having already :)
  • Tarashon Broomes
articulate your vision and tell your story...i agree with that, the more you talk and share it the more your are speaking it into existence
  • latachia_2
    NMPro#302 Sharing the Vision
1.Figure out what your vision is.
    2.Tell the story
3.Tweek it ,until you get it right
4.When it's right people will take action!
  • carybennett
so very true, looks like you had fun cant wait to see the video in the car
  • CarlosVera
You're right, as always................An inspiring vision explained through a compelling story is what drives other people to feel identified with that story. Once you get that from other people you are helping them to find their own reasons to share your vision.

    Saludos desde Paraguay
  • germarl
Facts tell - stories Sell !!
  • tambry
Their are so many stories we can tell. The story of how our company started, your own story, other people's success stories about the products, their success with the company, the list goes on and on.
  • lack of action is lack of vision
  • karenandian
The important fact of having a vision is SHARING a vision - tell your story. Get people excited about what you are doing.
  • a line i first heard from Art Jonak:
    facts tell, stories sell

a line i first heard from Eric Worre:
There is a promised land and we can get there together
  • Ria Leermakers
It seems to be so logical if you tell it, but I have to admit I don't do it often enough.
    So, another show to remember.
  • Articulate your vision, I need to work on this one. Thanks Eric, looks like fun there at the speedway.
  • Daniel Glez.Peña
Hola Eric, Excelent, We need to talk to people everyday.

    Saludos.
    Daniel y Natali, Querétaro, México.
  • Awesome location! Looking like a race official, Eric ....

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Best to you,
    Scott
  • If you don't know where you're going, you don't know it if you get there (if you do at all).

You're absolutely right!. Having a vision is different than sharing a vision that stirs action and excitement in others

Visions that have excited me are like a rays of sunshine through the fog.

    Illuminating message today.
  • alexanderpadilla
Thank you for clarifying what a leader does in theis series. Will certainly implement these elements into my business.
  • racingworm
I guess the more people that you tell your vision, the more accountable you will be held to. Someone will say, Hey how's that goal of yours doing? Tell your vision. That's great. Thanks Eric.
  • Get your clear vision.
    Articulate your vision,
Tell story ( of your vision) .
  • Cee_G
No only do we have to tell our story well, but we also have to write down our visions. I have a "vision board" so I can keep my "whys" in view.
  • brigittapatel
I didn't know I had to tell people my vision... ...
  • Dylan Cooper
I now realize what I need to do.
  • TAbrams
The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. It's got to be a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion.

There's nothing more demoralizing than a leader who can't clearly articulate why we're doing what we're doing.

The vision of leadership permeates the one's organization and is manifested in the actions, beliefs, values and goals of your organization’s leaders.
  • jlt0wn
I need to work on the storytelling aspect of my Vision. I'm use to creating Vision Statements. Thank you.
  • #302 Tell your story to share your vision.
Will they find your vision credible?

When someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there's wet paint somewhere, do you touch it to make sure?
  • Telling others about the vision is of important.
  • HoracioMejia
Great point. Having a vision is not enough at all. We have to spend time in articulating that vision until everybody can understand it and feel it as you feel it. I see it as preparing a short conference. I will start doing that. I have a vision, but there is no articulation on it yet. I will start with writing my vision.
  • eddyoshaughnessy
I probably need a little help with this one , or maybe just to practice more !
  • Katie N
Articulating my vision is something I really need to work on.
  • Working on our own story is so very important but one has to start somewhere and tweek it as you say as you continue on the journey. Creating a big "vision" of where you are going will turn your friends into followers and from there they can create their own story and vision and from being a follower they will become the "leader" that they can be. Good stuff --- Oh can't wait to see the ride in the pace-car. I drive the "pace-car at our Speedway. Canada's Fastest 1/3 mile oval. Every Saturday night- lots of fun.
  • I don't think I have, ever, followed someone else's dream before. The little one I had was a success but I guess it was too small and I was bored, after 20 years...
In NM, it is somebody else's dream you are following even if you use it as a tool to, eventually, "make it easier" to work on your own. BUT:
NM has shown me the way to personal development: It is the best way to work your physical, mental, spiritual and financial health. That is the story I really feel I have to "go out and tell the world".
  • Great topic! I'm reading a book "The Art of Possibility" that talks about Vision-less Mission Statements. With vision the person sees themselves as a part of the "mission". And telling stories is the only way to paint that picture. Thank you for the lessons.
  • MarvinTowler
Plan, Do, Review! Great stuff Eric!!!
  • Its all about the vision!
  • Thank you for challenging me with this. I will work on it. Trial and error is the key. There is no shortcuts in NM and i guess that is the beauty of it. So thank you, I'm working on it. / Linda, Sweden
  • rasdaniels
Telling my story, I really need to work on this. Thanks
  • latachia_2
    Me too!
  • chocolatelifesaver
    Great point to drive home!
  • Great video Eric!
  • You definetly need to be a good story teller to capture the attention of your audience.
  • christinaglazar
You just motivated me to tweek my todays story at a regular networking event I go - thank you Eric!
  • timandtricia
Having a powerful vision and keeping it to yourself guarantees a pretty small group of followers. Good point.
  • at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. I love this! Eric, you should do a "Where in the world is Eric Worre."
  • Never thought about sharing my vision with others. Good idea !
  • Vonnita2010
SHARE THE VISION BY TELLING STORIES!! MAKES SENCE! THANKS
  • fc34615
Our vision should get to a point where it creates automatic action by those whom we share the story to. What a key component to our success.

    Thanks, Eric
  • SJ Doug
    More good stuff!
  • Bryan_in_KC
I've been sharing my vision lately among those I partner with. Having gathered "wise counsel" regarding that vision and potential flaws, I am now ready to share that vision at the seminars I present. Good stuff once again, Eric. Thanks.
  • pollyhulseman
Thanks for sharing your vision with us! You help us all become better at what we do.
  • dougharkins
Facts tell; Stories Sell ! Thanks Eric
  • Gakungu
    Great advice, Eric. Thanks!
  • theuns
    Thanks Eric

Eith out a vision you have no Vision with out a vision you have no mission with out a mision you have no story to tell :-) this just pop into my mind Thanks for this it just make sens
  • ritafulton
"Plan, Do and Review" I like it great phrase to keep in front of me at all times. Practice telling your story or a "borrowed" story becomes a part of you.

Looking forward to seeing your lap around the track.

    Thanks Eric
  • lifeowner
Great series on leadership, Eric, and "that vision thing" is probably the key.
I just came across the following TED Talk which amplifies how important it is to tell the story of your vision (and to HAVE a vision):
    http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/848
    Thanks for all you do.
  • heatherbrocklehurst
Vision work has always been a huge challenge for me. I'm constantly refining. I think it needs more work before I can convey it to others.
  • I got it, I have to learn to articulate my vision.
    Thank you Eric. Great episode!
  • NANCY Eldred
The story really is everything - it's so important . We also have to LIKE and ENJOY telling our story since we'll be saying it over and over again - so the listener enjoys hearing it .. and we'll have a better impact on them. If we're bored telling it, the listener will get bored hearing it and we just end up .. sliding them into a coma... that's not good ..

I've never put my vision part in my story and after todays show I realize that I have to.
  • gillym1
I would say it's the most important thing to do correctly!

    Thanks for reminding me Eric!
  • Nancy Eldred
    Well said David
  • People want to be a part of something much bigger than themselves. Casting your vision helps them see how they can contribute to the greater good in helping others, and make a difference in this world.
  • Donna Wheaton
Vision- Need to share my vision with others and help others share there vision. I too agree share!
  • Foord Yates
    Nice short show today.
Maybe soon we can hear your vision articulated.

    Foord Yates.
  • I like the concepts and I would really like to hear examples of what a clear vision would sound like that makes people take action....any places I can look for examples? This is an area I'd like to improve my skills in.
  • hillin
We are in a Human Experience Business and one of the results are stories .
  • kgoren
Thanks for sharing the vision and reminding us to share our stories.
  • Got it! Facts tell, Story's sell. Best regards from your biggest fan.
  • hpena
We always want to improve, this excersize of improving the story of our vision gives me the direction I need to improve my communication skills.

    Nando
  • jeffreyhall
The concept of communication is so simple on the surface. But very challenging to be effective in reality. Requires much work and refinement.
  • Marion
Thanks for reminding me how important it is to tell My Story, with a Vision!
    btw what happened to #302?
  • The Bible says to "put your vision upon tablets" so people will see it....

At one point in my career, I put my PV goal on two excedrins and carried them around... wrong tablets?
  • A very critical step! No use having a vision if it's not shared effectively. Great advice
  • agelfederico
    Communication skills are key
  • Steve_Nelson
This episode is worth watching over several times! Great information! I've never heard it said this plain and simple before. My story is more important than I thought
  • What happened to the drive around the track at the end?

I understand the concept. It sounds related to inspiration and being inspiring. I cannot say I have an experience of someone sharing their vision that ever put me into action. Most of the time, the ‘vision’ I am left with is voting either for or against it. I think when done effectively it turns something 'on' in the person speaking that generates an action and a ‘way of being’ in the speaker that has the listeners follow. THAT is what we are looking for. That being turned on by something and being able to express it in a way that inspires others to add their fuel to the fire. It is more than words and the words that turn ‘on’ the vision in yourself and others can be a signature to rally around.
  • Pete
Ever day I listen to you, I understand that I have a lot more work to do besides just finding prospects
  • billrogers
Great point! I Like the way you put it "articulate"
Critique and fine tune, a must.
  • hlj521
Plan, Do, Review!! Tell your story! Share your vision! Not doing that enough currently, thank you for the reminder Eric!
  • turjcxg
Great show. I had written out the goals I wanted to accomplish some time ago but it never occurred to me that I needed to articulate them to other people, especially when I'm prospecting. I'm going to write them down, in very summarized form so that I can tell the story.
  • Ernesto_Busnelli
So before millionaire comes visionaire huh?
  • Dee_Canada
It's interesting that you are on this point just as I am sitting down and fleshing out what exactly my purpose and vision are. Things come into our lives when we are ready to receive them don't they? I find that I know my vision...and know how to articulate it, but the greatest challenge has been finding the courage to make it a reality. Once you articulate it...you of course must then determine how to begin to make it a reality because to share your vision, means you must ACT to make it happen! Funny how that goes isn't it? LOL You know this of course...which is why you share it. When we know the vision....and share the vision...we are compelled to get going! :0) That's why I love you Eric! You continue to kick me in the butt! THANK YOU!
  • Short and sweet! And yes, sometime your vision can be a motivate to others as well.
  • germanjaramillo
So i have to begin to practice and tell my story every day to much people. Thats a good challege for me.

    From Colombia,

    -GJ
  • Tell your story, tell your story, then tell your story again.
  • claralondono
The daily challange you bring is empowering and it is clear to me that my VISION is to be shared with everyone.. Thank you
  • Plan Do Review...then Tell the story Tell the Story-I think I got it!
  • Foord Yates
    Hi Elizabeth,
What's Bruce up to these days?
    Foord Yates.
  • Hi Foord...which Bruce are you referring to?
  • mariasiro
Ok, so it has to be more story telling from now on! Thanks Eric

Telling the story. Not doing that enough. Thanks for the reminder.
  • Episode 94 of Eric Worre's 100 Episode Throw Down Challlenge:

Great setting for an episode Eric! I think the best people in My company are very clear about their visions and bring their people into it and have them become a part of the vision.
  • Kjell Englund
Thanks Eric, good advice, tell your story
  • MagnusEdvald
    Story telling, not product selling.
  • carolbarrett
Telling the story, telling the story. Got it. Thanks Eric.
  • tomlacey
Telling the story is critical to painting the picture as to the why for your business
  • Tell it over and over!
  • We have our companies mission statement on our wall, and you have opened our eyes to having our teams vizions their tooooo. Thanks Eric
  • Paco_Carreno
Les Brown impacted me in this topic... Telling the story... "Raise your hand those who..."

"There's a promised land... We can get there together" (from the program 'GO PRO')
  • Mark_Abrahams_UK
    HI STORY
Yell it from the mountain tops, let the world know what your vision is - got it!
My vision is, as I said, based on blue skies thinking, strategising to lead in the future and to manage what is happening to all of us below the cloud level.
So my story, one of a professional from a different world, working hard to learn new skills and a better way to help the many, will link into the team’s mission statement and all that I learn by listening to the best, practicing, teaching, changing myself.
My past, how I got here, is interesting to many – I’ll tell it as well as I can and to as many as I can.
Yet my story, like everyone else’s, is still being written – developing as a result of the pragmatic way I think about what is happening to us all. To mix metaphors, I am setting my sail and am readying to step on the gas. You know what I mean!

    Thanks again Eric.
  • peterburrows
    It's a funny thing....
After yesterday's show I stopped to think about my vision for our company.
    I got real clear....
Then during the course of the day ths subject of income came up with 2 people.
Before I knew it, we were getting them signed up.
All I did was clear up 'the vision'
Did someone say.....'law of attraction' !
  • Mailen
    Hei .
Yes I do , it is importante.
  • peterragg
The vision for our team, which is articulated within our mission statement, becomes the culture of how we work together. Simple business remember.
    Kind regards
    Peter Ragg
  • Your vision attracts people and it gives you momentum. Fired up and focused!
    Alex Tita
    Here as promised.
  • Erik
Just to inform. Last show was #301, this show is 303. I think this is #302. Great show :)
  • Very important post. Without vision your business will perish....
  • Jillian
I'm beginning to realize how important it is to be able to tell stories. Understanding and framing your vision is a big part. Thanks for challenging us each and every day!
