You must learn to discipline your disappointment.

There is a children’s book called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.  The book follows Alexander’s day as he relates everything that went wrong from waking up with gum in his hair to having to eat lima beans at dinner. Things are so bad for him that Alexander thinks it would be better if he moved to Australia.

We all have days like Alexander’s where everything seems to be going against us, and leaving our troubles behind for anywhere else sounds really appealing.  But we won’t get very far in life or in business if we follow that mindset.

There Will Always be Disappointments

One thing you need to understand about Network Marketing is that no matter what you do there will be disappointment. There will be things that don’t work, plans that fall apart, people who don’t live up to their word, unexpected changes, and adversity. When those disappointments come, don’t let them own you and control you. You can control your level of disappointment and how long you let it affect you.

When I first started out and I met with a disappointment, I would let it destroy me for weeks at a time. I would publicize my disappointment and say, “Hey, look what happened to me.” It came to the point where the disappointment became a part of my brand, and I felt I actually deserved to be disappointed. The disappointments forced me off-track, and I was no longer productive. My business suffered because I thought I deserved the disappointments.

Get Past Your Disappointment

I worked so that instead of two weeks, I was only disappointed for two days. Then, I eventually got it down to only two hours, and ultimately, I strive to only be disappointed for two minutes. I decided that if disappointment was not going to serve me anyway, why spend so much time there?

Some of you have been stuck in your disappointment for months, telling everyone about it, and letting that disappointment influence your brand. It’s time to get that disappointment down to two weeks, then two days, and then two hours. Get past the disappointment.

Get Back to Your Purpose

At the end of the day, Alexander learns that some days are just terrible, horrible, no good, very bad.  There will be days when you feel like Alexander and want to just quit and move to Australia.  But you can’t let those days destroy you and stop you from doing what you were meant to do.

Get back to your purpose and why you were put on earth. You were not put on the earth to say, “Woe is me. Here is why I deserve to be disappointed.” Get past it. Be stronger, better, and bolder. Your future and your purpose are waiting for you. Don’t waste time in disappointment.
