No One Wins Like Gaston: Validating Your Network Marketing Distributors

Have you seen Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast yet? I’ve been thinking about how my kids would watch the animated version as kids, and I realized that you can actually learn something about running your own business and validating your distributors from one of the songs.

The song is called “Gaston,” and it is actually sung by the villain, Gaston, and his sidekick, LeFou.  Yes, it is the villain song, but stay with me.  The song is sung after Gaston is rejected by the main protagonist, Belle.  He is upset and humiliated.  LeFou then breaks into the song to cheer Gaston up.

Some of the lyrics include lines like “No one matches wits like Gaston” and “No one’s quick like Gaston.” The point is to bolster Gaston and remind him of how great he is.

Now, you’re probably thinking, “What in the world does this have to do with Network Marketing?”

Well, we don’t break into musical numbers every time we want to cheer up a friend.  At least, I don’t.  But part of what we have to do as leaders is remind our distributors just how great they are and that they did make the right choice when joining Network Marketing.

We Can Be Knocked Down

This profession is hard.  We can be rejected by so many people that we lose count.  Our entire upline could leave for a different company.  The system we’re using might not duplicate very well.  Our friends and family could look at us like we’re crazy.  This profession can tear us down and leave us wondering what we were thinking when we signed up.

And it can be scary to jump into something like that.  Your new recruits are going to be nervous as they start out.  It’s your job to help them get started right, and part of that includes validating their decision to join Network Marketing.

Validating Your Distributors

Remind them of the benefits of Network Marketing and how this profession can give them freedom to be their own boss, spend time with family, and achieve the things they’ve always wanted to do.  But don’t sugar coat it.  Let them know that it will be challenging, but that you will help them get started so that they can find success.

And keep an eye on your distributors as you team grows.  If you see someone starting to struggle and doubt themselves, do what you can to cheer them up.  Even if it’s something as simple as saying that you’re proud of how they’ve kept with it or of the progress they’ve made.

Now, this doesn’t mean you have to coddle your distributors or take their hand the entire way.  But it is important to validate and encourage your distributors every once in a while.  Sometimes we’ve told ourselves the same encouraging words so many times that they have less punch than they used to.  So, to hear those words from someone else who also sees the potential in us, can be just what we need to get out there and kill it!

You don’t have to be like LeFou and sing about all of your distributor’s great qualities.  But take a page out of his book, and encourage your distributors.

Remind them that no one is resourceful like them!  No one is as dedicated as them!  And no one is as passionate as them!
