The fastest path I know to become a Network Marketing professional is to improve the people you’re spending time with. One of the early lessons I learned from my parents is to be careful who you become friends with because your friends have an influence on your life.
Jim Rohn called it the power of association. He said that you become the average of the five people you spend the most time with. And if you think about it, that’s true. You are generally going to do what they do, think what they think, go where they go, and read what they read. Your language, interests, and ambitions are all going to be similar.
And it’s very difficult to be a lone ranger inside a group of negative influences. Many people think they can influence a larger group of people and change everybody around them. But when you dance with the devil, the devil doesn’t change. The devil changes you. Negative influence changes you.
So, if you’re not focused, find a way to get around the most focused people that you can find. If you lack leadership and duplication, find people in your organization that are great at getting people to duplicate. Now, it is a little tricky at the beginning because the people who are really good at those things are busy. You can’t just come in as a needy person and barge your way into their group. You have to earn your way in.
In your list of five people you’re spending the most time with, where do you want to be on that list? The best or the worst? Most will say that they want to be the best of the five. That will feed your ego, but it will also steal from your future. You should want to be at the bottom of the list because those people who are more successful than you will pull you up. Likewise, if you’re at the top of the five, those people below you will pull you down. So, successful people understand that if you come into their circle of influence, you may end up pulling them down a bit. That is why you have to earn a place in their circle.
